On the plus side, they were pleasant and cheerful and unloaded and loaded my rugs. On the minus side, I'm not sure the rugs were cleaned. I took the upsell for extra cleaning where my dog had lain but passed on the upsell for "protection." Well, I can still see those areas (they weren't all that bad in the first place) so I'm not sure what I was charged for. There was no mention of any difficulty either when I dropped off the rugs or picked them up. read more

I highly recommend Simonian rug cleaners. I had a Native American saddle blanket from the 1800s that was dirty, had wax on it from candles, and a hole. They were able to clean it all and repair the hole within a couple weeks. There is a little discoloration on the rug from the coloring in the wax, but who knows how long it was there - it looks MUCH better and is smaller in size than when I took it in. Everyone is really nice too. Parking can be a little tight, but you can find something on the street eventually. read more

I recently had my Kilim rug cleaned and the fringe repaired. The end result was GREAT....perfectly cleaned and the repair of the fraying fringe was better than I expected. I had been using Simonian for occasional rug cleaning and repair for more than thirteen years and out of loyalty, continued even when it was inconvenient to do so after moving away from San Mateo. Unfortunately, after having a baby, I was recently late to pick up a medium-sized rug and was unexpectedly charged a storage fee. (I tried to pick the rug up in a timely manner, but the shop was closed for MLK Jr. day.) I negotiated the fee down; they initially wanted to charge me for all the time from the day the rug was ready (three months) and ended up charging two months and removing a handling fee (wrapping) that would have been double billing because it was part of the initially requested and paid service. I guess the storage policy is outlined on their invoices, but because I had paid everything in full when I initially dropped the rug off, I didn't have the chance to review the fine print. (I'm not sure I would have anyway.) They indicated they had tried to contact me multiple times, which I'm sure they had, though in my records, I only saw one call when the rug was ready. In no case did I see notice of the storage fees until I received an overdue invoice for three months of storage and another fee. Anyway, I'm disappointed because I will now have to find a new cleaners. I'm sure they won't miss my business because the delay was entirely my fault (it's probably audacious of me to expect special treatment) and they said they don't have a lot of room. I was a small client, but they had the opportunity to show me grace when I picked up the rug within a few days of receiving the overdue invoice, which they didn't. Oh well. If you use drop off at Simonian, make sure you don't delay. Best of luck, Simonian. read more

Cesar was so knowledgeable ..he told me what kind of rugs I bought and explained where their names came from and was very patient and professional. one rug needed repairing and now it's like new. I do NOT recommend. For the amount of money they charge, I would have expected a better outcome, or at least a heads-up about what outcome I could expect, given how much this single 9'x12' rug cost to clean...almost $750! If they thought there would be difficulty in cleaning the rug properly, then I should have had the opportunity to choose to spend the money or not, given how expensive it was to clean the rug. Just threw my money away, and had to give the rug away in the end. I give it one star because at least everyone was responsive and polite, if not unhelpful and argumentative. I am very disappointed with how the company has dealt with this--blaming ME or their delivery people for their lack of communication and not taking any responsibility. They didn't even offer to at least refund me a small portion of the cleaning fee. No effort whatsoever in trying to please the customer. read more

A great experience with professionals! We have had our oriental rug for two years now and Simonian came strongly recommended by the shop that sold us the rug (Nomad Rugs). I indicated a time that would work for them to drive up from San Mateo to pick up the rug in the Mission Neighborhood of SF. They quickly confirmed my slot, were timely, thoughtful and communicative. They picked up the rug and loaded it into their van within 15 minutes. They kept the rug for one week and returned it on time clean and looking brand new. What's more, they helped me put it back in the living room which involved moving heavy furniture multiple times to get the rug mat down, the rug down and then when the rug was slightly off position, moving things again so that it laid correctly. read more

I have been working with Simonian on and off for the past 50 years, having inherited them from my parents who found them when they opened in the late 1950s. We continue to use them for replacing the pads when they begin to disintegrate, and definitely for getting our rugs cleaned occasionally. Recently took a beautiful old rug I inherited from my parents for what obviously was a much overdue cleaning. When it was returned, it looks like a brand new rug and the original color and design are impressively more vivid! Simonian did a fantastic job on four 100% silk prayer rugs from Kashmir. After washing, they now have the luxury feel and softness of a fine silk scarf. The rugs came back softer to the touch than they were before the washing. When it comes to the care of Oriental rugs, they know what they are doing. Pickup and delivery is free and the staff wears shoe coverings in the house. I am extremely pleased and very happy with every aspect of their service. The entire Simonian team is helpful, friendly and professional. As a result, I will now have them wash my extensive collection of Kashmir silks. The quote based on my measurements and my estimate of what type of rug we had was decent, and such a pleasant surprise pick up and deliver to a different address was included in price. Isaiah and Pedro were on time, remeasured the carpets to assert price, whew no price change. They suggested a different padding, which they would deliver with cleaned rugs. No hard sale, just good service. When the rugs came back to our new address exactly within the time we had been told, they looked like new, and wow the padding made such a difference. We had three rugs cleaned here. The cleaning on two seemed fine - they looked cleaner at least. The cleaning on the third resulted in several patches of the rug missing the weave and having bare spots. The rug continues to unravel now. We wrote to the business to discuss the issue and ask for a refund. When we let them know the problem, they stopped responding to our communications and have not remedied the situation. read more

I used their online calculator for a quote. I measured correctly. Took rug in this morning and the young woman sitting at a desk whipped out a sheet of paper and said- put the rug on the floor. No greeting, but I guess the command to put the rug on the floor was her greeting. She quickly measured the rug and punched in a few numbers and came up with a price about 4 times my quote. I did tell her when I went in that I had a quote and showed her my iPhone quote. She wouldn't look at it. That didn't matter. Many years ago, we had a large rug cleaned by Simonian and when it was returned the price had changed and was markedly more than the written quote. In addition a new pad was priced at $150 - 3 times more than quoted. Well, I've certainly learned my lesson. Go elsewhere for honest pricing and get away from bait and switch. read more

Simonian did a fabulous job on my 8'x11' antique Wilton oriental wool rug. They cleaned it better than any other cleaner (in-home or off-site) has done. The pile is now pristine---brilliant, colorful, and soft. The fringe is like new. I chose to have the rug's edges rebound, which was not cheap, and I'm so glad I did: the workmanship and materials are flawless; it's as if I have a new rug (except mine was a 1990s yard sale steal!). I used their pick-up/drop-off service; the workmen easily and carefully moved furniture and replaced the rug was perfectly square; they arrived on time for both pick-up and drop-off. Service time was two weeks, but this was due to the extra bindery work I had done. I highly recommend Simonian and will use them only from now on. read more

The information on that topic is a bit fuzzy. But the rugs look good. On the website they offer carpet cleaning of wall to wall carpet. Once we booked that we learned they use a subcontractor who is actually a disaster remediation company not really a carpet cleaning company per se.
