I booked this place on Airbnb for $250 for one night. The listing said it was a hotel, but when I arrived, it turned out to be a motel and even mentioned that you're actually living in someone's house. This is very confusing and feels misleading compared to what was advertised. At first glance, the place looked clean, but when I used the restroom there was a floating, unflushed log in the toilet. I didn't take a picture cause it was graphic. Upstairs, a dog was whimpering constantly, and across the street a fair was taking place, which created loud noise that was not disclosed in the listing. When I checked the sheets, I found several stains. Looking closer, there were additional stains on every corner of the sheets, and I discovered a large reddish-orange stain about 8-9 inches wide. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable staying. This property is unsanitary, unsafe, and not as described in the listing. I felt dirty just being there. read more

I made a reservation by mistake and called to cancel the SAME DAY, well before check-in. The front desk told me to call back during business hours. I submitted an online cancellation form, which was never processed. The next morning I called again and was told to wait until 11 AM for the manager. When I finally reached the manager, my request was flatly refused, and the manager was rude and unhelpful. I made every effort in good faith to fix my mistake immediately, and this property still refused to refund $251.64. Very disappointing customer service. read more

Don't trust the details of your confirmation with this place! The front desk people have absolutely no manners. If you express the least bit of annoyance over their incompetence you might possibly be met with a threat of them calling the cops (not making this sh!t up, CRAZY!) like they threatened me to do. I'm a low key chill chick so there's that too. Called the main number and got absolutely no backing so motel 6 corporate is allowing this behavior to be a norm. I have a dog of 12 years so I frequent motel 6 on road trips etc. and was treated very poorly. And because corporate didn't back me the, oh so brilliant desk employee decided that the "best" customer service skills he had was to blame me in saying I was wrong! Since when is treating a customer like this ok? Since when did corporations decide their customers are always wrong. What happened to corporations caring about their name & doing something, ANYTHING to try in fix the situation. Also, during this whole thing there was a room w/2 beds available. Probably only a $30 extra difference & MOTEL 6 AS A WHOLE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS SITUATION. We need to stick together & not little companies get away with this behavior. Let them them go bankrupt so we can get rid of poorly ran corporations & lets let's let the GOOD PEOPLE GET AHEAD! The corporations that at least try are worth spending a little extra so places like this can one day be gone. I will never be staying at this location again! The first thing I do is check the beds...and what did I find. Pubic hair covered in the blanket. I do have pic to prove it, but not posting due to the nature. Stains on the sheets and the bathroom was disgusting. The front desk was accommodating of the situation and moved us to another room. The worst! Our room came without a remote control for the TV. When I asked the front office, they gave me one that didnt work. When I was informed that my room was non- smoking, I informed them that my room smelled of cigarettes. They blamed me because "I didnt inform them within 15 minutes" as a rule. I had the absolute worst experience at this hotel. I booked through my Chase credit card and paid the room price in full before getting here. Upon arriving the very unfriendly man at the desk let me know that he couldn't find my reservation, in his experience that happens often when booking through third parties so I should call Chase to resolve the issue. Needless to say this was very frustrating, if he and other booking sites have issues it shouldn't be up to me to resolve this. The Chase travel hotline unfortunately had technical issues on their end and were not able to resolve the situation, they told me I had to pay out of pocket and they would have to start an investigation on their end to get a refund for the money I already paid. What was very surreal was the fact that in the Chase reservation the hotel appeared as "Vagabond Inn", but at the physical location it is a "Motel 6". The motel employee did not offer any explanation for this, when asking for a room that I would pay out-of-pocket he wanted to charge me more than double(!) what I already paid. I explained my situation and asked him if at least give me a room for the original price (please remember I already paid that money!), he got very rude. I called his behavior criminal and he immediately threatened to call the cops on me and told me to leave the property. I have never experienced such an awful treatment in a hotel, I don't really know what happened here and why two identical hotels are registered at the same address. I am old enough to remember when Motel 6 was a value chain. Some locations and rooms were actually still 6$ when I was a kid. (which would be about 60$ today) Here's the good stuff: - The room was clean - Check in/out was easy and fast. - The A/C worked really well - The pool looked very clean. Here is what was wrong: - The bed was SO bad. it was hard, the springs were poky, and they made loud squeaks every time one of us moved. - The sink sprayed out of the basin - The Tub was a good size, Partner was looking forward to a soak in it, but when he tried to use it it would not stopper. nothing he could do would make the tub hold water. - The flooring was terrifying for doggo, she was shivering and scared of slipping the whole time and refused to eat or drink. (I get it makes it easy to clean, so if I stay again I will bring her a little slip-proof rug) - There was no obvious place to walk her, which I was expecting at a dog-friendly hotel. - The bed was too close to the wall on the left side, so it was an adventure to get in and out of on that side - The vending machines were broken and when I asked for help I was told to call the number on the machine, because I guess I work there, now, I guess? Not them? The guy at the front desk would not even come look at it, or call them when I said "I am just letting you know it's broken, like no one can use it." And the biggest issue we had: The chair broke AS partner was sitting on it using his phone. He was literally just sitting there, for like an hour, then suddenly the chair broke out from under him sending him crashing to the floor. He narrowly missed bashing his head open, and ended up pulling a muscle in his back and needing help to get up. When we asked if they could bring us a sturdier chair for him, they brought us another of the exact same chair. The take away from this stay is that we paid 173+ tax for barely 60$ worth of room. And their chairs are bloodthirsty and out for revenge. read more

Decent Motel 6 location. Not the cleanest, but not the dirtiest either. Definitely the most expensive, at $150/night, because of the location being so close to the beach in Monterey and right off of highway 1. Check-in was quick and easy. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We were given a corner room on the bottom floor with parking right in front, as requested on reservation. We stayed in a two bed with refrigerator room. They also have monthly rates, as seen on back of bathroom door. The 'resident' rooms are around the back side of the motel. Rooms are pretty old and small. Our non-smoking room didn't smell smoky, which was a plus. More often than not we request a non-smoking room and can still smell smoke. The a/c worked well and wasn't too noisy. No designated pet potty area, but plenty of grassy areas around the building for them to go. The linens could be inspected better. We found numerous hairs on the pillows and stains on wash cloths. A couple of the bath towels had obvious big stains as well. These should not be put out for guests to use! I added a photo for reference. Overall pretty pricey for this chain, and the cleaning needs improvement. Probably wouldn't stay here again. read more

Booked a room here for four nights through Hopper 9 months ago. Before leaving for the three hour drive to get there I checked my reservation on hopper and it said confirmed. Got there and had the guy at the front desk tell me that they overbooked and we no longer have a room. He said that they sent a "email " informing me that they canceled the reservation. When I called Hopper they said that they were still showing that everything was still good on their end. Both companies said that there was nothing that they could do. The front desk guy didn't even offer to help us find a hotel for the inconvenience! We ended having to pay $500 more for a different hotel! So pretty much if you get a good deal on a reservation at this hotel they will cancel on you so they can make more money off someone else. That is morally wrong and I hope Karma catches up to them!! read more

I don't know where to start... Ole Tom Bodett needs to not keep the lights for this one... matter of fact, just turn them off!! The room felt like a "by the hour" type of room for the world's oldest profession. I have so much to say about the dissatisfaction of this room, but it looks like it's pretty well covered in the other posts. But... let me add my laundry list 1. No nightstand. I needed one for my CPAP machine 2. Thinnest towels ever and cheap. 3. Floor was dirty, dare not walk barefoot. 4. Bedding felt as if it wasn't clean. 5. No microwave or fridge. 6. BEWARE BED BUG/FLEA INFESTATION Room 103 My mother and I stayed here for one night and she woke up with bed bug or flea bites all over her body. Initially it wasn't too bad so we went about our day sightseeing and whatnot. As the day progressed her bites got worse, they became more and more prominent and spread to more places on her body. She eventually had to be hospitalized because the bites got too painful and she couldn't move or sleep. She had to be hospitalized a second time because it was getting even worse. Today's marks the 6th day and she's still suffering from the painful bites. I've contacted motel 6 corporate and let them know what happened but I have yet to hear anything. My next call will be to the Monterey County health department. Beware of this place. They obviously don't clean the rooms very well or change the sheets. We picked this place because it's pet friendly but these are the repercussions of pet friendly places. read more

Do not go here! Poor management, some of the staff is ignorant, and have poor communication skills. I was retaliated against for writing a review and for returning back to stay at the establishment. I called the front to say that I didn't need housekeeping services and I was asked my name. I gave my name and asked, what does my name have to do with not needing services? He lied and said that he was letting housekeeping know that I didn't need service. He came back to the phone even more hostile and said well if you're going to make a review why stay here and I replied because I can. I went to the office to ask who the manager was and he stated that he was, so I asked above him. He told me don't worry about it, I want you it out here at 11. The room was paid for until Friday. I said you can't put me out over a review, he says, yes I can. I can do whatever it is that I want. This is the only motel 6 that I've ever had nasty attitudes and poor customer service. He then lied and said that I was being disrespectful and that I was the one rude to him. He called my room phone 4 times harassing me and being threatening. I have recordings of him calling the hotel room phone. Very unprofessional, don't spend your money here. read more

It was ok for a Motel 6. We arrived around 5p and check in was easy and we were told there was free coffee in the office in the mornings. Our room was on the very end of the row with another room above us and the vending machines and washer/dryer next to us. The handicapped parking was nearby which was good for my husband. Thankfully they had four handicapped spots because twice trucks with no placard parked in two of the spaces and another resident parked in a third. We were there Aug. 5-7. We went to the aquarium on the 6th and when we got back, our room had not been cleaned. My husband saw the cleaning person and gave them our used towels and got new ones. There were several restaurants nearby and a grocery store so that was nice for us. I have a few complaints though: 1. It must be close to an airport because loud planes flew over several times during the day; 2. There was a very bright light right outside our window. Even though we blocked the bottom of the curtains, a lot of light came in around the sides and through the top of the curtain. Whenever we'd wake up during the night, we had to check our phones for the time because with the amount of light that came in, we couldn't tell if it was morning or still night; 3. The tub did not have a drain plug and my husband was unable to take a bath; and, 4. The bathroom door did not latch closed so was always partially open. read more

This place is tremendous. The cleanliness is amazing. The cleaning crew is great !!!! My room was clean & freshly painted. The office manager is very friendly and helpful. Got a second floor room. 2.sink has only a trickle of water. 3.Tub will not drain. 4. AC buttons are broken-in July! Told them I needed a first floor room with better plumbing. Was told that unless I got there in time for them to clean the room (to rent out again with bad plumbing) I was denied. 2nd Night. 1. OMG, the toilet stopped up in the middle of the night! We just needed a room for one night, and decided to go to Motel 6 for the price. The room was very clean, customer service was excellent, and it's in a decent location. It is near an airport, so you will hear an occasional plane fly by, but that didn't bother us one bit, and thats's out of the motels control. I was very disappointed in this hotel. Made my reservation way ahead of time (6 months). Showed up to find my reservation was cancelled. Was able to spend one night but not the 4 days I was anticipating. How was I told I lost my reservation to people who were paying more. The place looked nice but actually was not. The shower barely turned on. The mattress should have been replaced with all the broken springs. The staff was not considerate or helpful, especially trying to refer us to another location. They were not concerned with the fact that we had made prior reservations and we had to leave because they were able to charge new people additional money. Definitely breaks those negative motel stereotypes. This location had even better customer service than some hotels or inns I've stayed at. Best part? It is dog friendly!! Even better? No additional pet fee (maximum 2 pups)! *WAIT TIME- only one person at a time inside the tiny lobby during covid, but lobbyist works efficiently. Also, never had to wait long for any of my phone calls to be answered. *AMBIANCE- honestly was a bit worried about feeling safe or secure at first since this was our first time staying at a motel, but we even felt safe enough to walk our doggies around the complex late at night! *QUALITY- not a fancy 5-star, but more than decent :) *CUSTOMER SERVICE- great! Very friendly, patient, and polite over the phone and in-person. *RESTROOM- the restroom in our room was pretty small, but no complaints because it did it's job. *OUTSIDE SEATING- no rooms here with private patio or balcony. They do have a little swimming pool area in front of the lobby, but it is closed during covid. *PARKING- decent sized, enough for the guests staying at this motel. Quick overnight stay for our last minute trip. It's the day after Valentine's Day and a 3 day weekend and all the hotels are booked. Motel 6 was one of the only ones at an affordable price compared to the others. I'm very particular with traveling - meaning I come prepared to use all my own things. All I need is a bed and shower. So come prepared! There are NO personal hygiene items - only a sliver bar soap. So make sure to bring your own shampoo/conditioner, body soap, lotion, toothpaste, etc. I bring my own towel, bed sheet, pillow, etc. So I can't say anything about the quality of those items. But they looked fine. The drive to the touristy hot spots wasn't too far, maybe like a 10 min. drive. Good places to eat nearby. Not bad for a last minute stay, especially for it being a motel in Monterey. read more

In all honesty, not an unreasonable place to stay. Clean, and a good location (not 5 minutes drive to the Aquarium or Cannery Row). So why 2 stars? I paid 109.99 for a single room 1 adult. The room was probably a 10x10 room, full sized bed, small desk, TV, and the shower was just a section of the bathroom separated by a shower curtain. The bathroom had no Kleenex, or shampoo. I stayed 1 Saturday night, on labor day weekend, which is probably how they were able to justify shaking me down for $110. Still, the staff was nice and helpful. read more

This may be the first time I have given a budget motel 4 stars, I was that impressed! My husband and I live in the San Jose area, but we love spending time in Monterey and Carmel. We do have a small dog, so we were looking for pet friendly motels. Since it is off season (and cheaper), we decided to check out motel prices in Monterey and treat ourselves to a night in the area so we could have two days on the beach in Carmel. We first stayed here on New Years Eve, our room was a bit small but we were quite impressed by the cleanliness and how updated the room was. I stay in a LOT of budget friendly motels and this was by far one of the nicer ones that I have been to. We went again last weekend, I believe we had a handicapped room and the room was in just as good of a condition, but a big bigger. There are plenty of convenient places to grab a bite to eat. I do like that the CVS is located next door. This motel is only a few miles from the tourist attractions of Monterey (Cannery Row). The drive to Carmel is not bad from this location either, about 10 minutes. read more
