The chair that almost killed a man
    Amy N.

I am old enough to remember when Motel 6 was a value chain. Some locations and rooms were actually still 6$ when I was a kid. (which would be about 60$ today) Here's the good stuff: - The room was clean - Check in/out was easy and fast. - The A/C worked really well - The pool looked very clean. Here is what was wrong: - The bed was SO bad. it was hard, the springs were poky, and they made loud squeaks every time one of us moved. - The sink sprayed out of the basin - The Tub was a good size, Partner was looking forward to a soak in it, but when he tried to use it it would not stopper. nothing he could do would make the tub hold water. - The flooring was terrifying for doggo, she was shivering and scared of slipping the whole time and refused to eat or drink. (I get it makes it easy to clean, so if I stay again I will bring her a little slip-proof rug) - There was no obvious place to walk her, which I was expecting at a dog-friendly hotel. - The bed was too close to the wall on the left side, so it was an adventure to get in and out of on that side - The vending machines were broken and when I asked for help I was told to call the number on the machine, because I guess I work there, now, I guess? Not them? The guy at the front desk would not even come look at it, or call them when I said "I am just letting you know it's broken, like no one can use it." And the biggest issue we had: The chair broke AS partner was sitting on it using his phone. He was literally just sitting there, for like an hour, then suddenly the chair broke out from under him sending him crashing to the floor. He narrowly missed bashing his head open, and ended up pulling a muscle in his back and needing help to get up. When we asked if they could bring us a sturdier chair for him, they brought us another of the exact same chair. The take away from this stay is that we paid 173+ tax for barely 60$ worth of room. And their chairs are bloodthirsty and out for revenge.

Decent Motel 6 location. Not the cleanest, but not the dirtiest either. Definitely the most expensive, at $150/night, because of the location being so close to the beach in Monterey and right off of highway 1. Check-in was quick and easy. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We were given a corner room on the bottom floor with parking right in front, as requested on reservation. We stayed in a two bed with refrigerator room. They also have monthly rates, as seen on back of bathroom door. The 'resident' rooms are around the back side of the motel. Rooms are pretty old and small. Our non-smoking room didn't smell smoky, which was a plus. More often than not we request a non-smoking room and can still smell smoke. The a/c worked well and wasn't too noisy. No designated pet potty area, but plenty of grassy areas around the building for them to go. The linens could be inspected better. We found numerous hairs on the pillows and stains on wash cloths. A couple of the bath towels had obvious big stains as well. These should not be put out for guests to use! I added a photo for reference. Overall pretty pricey for this chain, and the cleaning needs improvement. Probably wouldn't stay here again.

The rooms are so small beds as well, the floors don't get mopped, bathroom was nasty. Beds were worse. My pictures will show what I'm taking about.. nasty.... I slept in my car , because they have a no refund policy.. now I know why..... Morel 6's have gone down so much it sad... Find a cleaner place.. it may be cheap but nasty

BEWARE BED BUG/FLEA INFESTATION Room 103 My mother and I stayed here for one night and she woke up with bed bug or flea bites all over her body. Initially it wasn't too bad so we went about our day sightseeing and whatnot. As the day progressed her bites got worse, they became more and more prominent and spread to more places on her body. She eventually had to be hospitalized because the bites got too painful and she couldn't move or sleep. She had to be hospitalized a second time because it was getting even worse. Today's marks the 6th day and she's still suffering from the painful bites. I've contacted motel 6 corporate and let them know what happened but I have yet to hear anything. My next call will be to the Monterey County health department. Beware of this place. They obviously don't clean the rooms very well or change the sheets. We picked this place because it's pet friendly but these are the repercussions of pet friendly places.

I mean I knew it was going to be cheap for a reason...but IT WAS SOOOOO CHEAP! No fridge or microwaves. Everything is old and very used. The room was pretty gross and didn't feel clean at all. There was no ant infestation right by the beds.. PLUS black mold or something under the ac unit right by the bed

Non smoking room with Cigarette burn marks. Dirt on the white wash cloth is Mold off the wall!

The lobby has an older, vintage feel to it, which gave it some charm. Unfortunately, the check in experience wasn't the best. The front desk receptionist wasn't very friendly or welcoming, so it didn't exactly start our trip on a positive note. Our room with two queen beds was pretty standard, but it was clean and had a beautiful view overlooking the water, which was definitely the highlight. The service throughout our stay was pretty disappointing. I called the front desk to ask for extra bath towels, and after waiting 30 minutes with nothing delivered, I had to call again. They finally arrived another 20 minutes later, which seemed way too long for such a simple request. The shower was also confusing because the hot and cold labels were reversed, and the water pressure was extremely weak. Neither of those things ruined the trip, but they definitely made the stay less enjoyable. We also ordered room service around 7:30pm. Jerry, who took our order, was very friendly and told us it would take about 45 minutes. An hour later there was still no food, so I called back around 8:45. Jerry apologized, checked on the order, and said it would be another 10 minutes before offering to personally bring it up. I appreciated his effort, but waiting well over an hour for room service was frustrating. To make matters worse, they already charge a service fee and then tack on an additional 20% service charge. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The ceviche lacked flavor and the portion was tiny, the ahi tuna wraps were just okay and didn't taste very fresh, and the Wagyu burger was dry and underwhelming. The fries were probably the best thing we ordered. Overall, I don't see myself staying here again, and next time I'd rather book the InterContinental instead.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
