Definitely don't recommend this place for what they're charging. Room walls and shower were gross. They also claim their key card machine doesn't work and they personally open your door for you; highly inconvenient. Receptionist by the name of Robert was really rude and unprofessional. We had made a reservation using a 3rd party (which we had used for so many years and never had experienced any issues) Robert claimed there was no reservation under our name even after showing him the itinerary #. Abruptly he advised us to call the 3rd party to find out what was going on, which we did. After contacting 3rd party and explaining the situation, we right away felt the difference in professionalism communication and compassion. The 3rd party Rep. put us on hold a few times while they communicated with Robert, which we didn't mind at all. Once coming to a resolution, we were advised to check in with Robert...he proceeded to state we were being charged for 6 rooms by the 3rd party (which was a complete lie) but he was going to contact the 3rd party to "fix" the problem. Nice try Robert to claim yourself as the "hero". Never staying there again. read more

Update: I spoke with Rosey, the manager and she was very nice and apologetic. She said she is pretty new there and was "cleaning up shop." She gave us half off of the amount we paid back to us. She says that they have someone coming to take care of the cockroach problem and she is aware of the ongoing probles with this place. I wish I could give more stars because she was very nice but I literally couldn't sleep all night because it was so bad (they were completely booked and had no other room to move us and nowhere nearby had any rooms available so we had no other option). I definitely would never stay here again but hopefully Rosey can get this place in working order. She has the customer service part down! Thanks for the help Rosey. It's Labor Day weekend and we decided to book a last min trip here. This was the only room under $400 a night. It ended up being $240 for the night. Since it's only one night we figured we would just take a chance because the reviews were horrible. BIG mistake. When we walked in the main light did not work. Then I went to take a shower and there is black mold all over the bathroom walls and ceiling (pic taken) I then go to put my stuff away and there is a dead cockroach on the ground. This motel was filthy and in desperate need of repair. The bathroom smelled of sewer gases. It was revolting. It looked like someone had attempted to break down the door-the wall next to it was cracked the entire length of the door. Even the elevator was trashed. We paid close to $600 for 2 nights here and stayed only 1 as it was car week in Monterey and nothing else was available. No offer was made to compensate us. There is no excuse for a room to be dirty, as we tolerated the floor and even four by with the dirty floor in the tub. But waking up and seeing "Crack" written in blood was the straw that broke the camels back. That is a health safety hazard. We pulled into the parking lot to see a line out the door and a handful of RVs scattered around the parking lot that were being lived in. It took over an hour for check-in. The room was very dirty the only toiletries provided was a bar of soap. The laundry room STANK there was moldy water which was BLACK! The neighbors were blasting music all night and it was hard to sleep. WiFi was super slow kept disconnecting. Came to the area from Sacramento for a Girl Scout event. Needed somewhere to sleep that was safe for myself and two young daughters), clean and not too expensive. I looked everywhere and with some of these past reviews was nervous but decided I could not afford over $200 a night for a hotel in Santa Cruz. This was a good compromise. Upon check-in was told by the owner the complex is now 100% smoke-free and that they were doing renovations and I would get a room that had recently been completed. Room 344 was on the third floor and yes they do have an elevator so no big deal. It was situated towards the back of the property and was very quiet. Some dumpsters and cargo containers did take up parking spots but was able to park directly in eye sight when I looked out the window. I was pleasantly surprised with the new decor and layout. I will post photos. Yes they do not give you shampoo but for a Saturday night cost of $78 including tax I can bring my own shampoo. WiFi is available for a fee of $2.99 per day per device. Decided we could live without for one night. They have an outside pool (did not use as it was not heated and the wind was chilly). The well stocked vending machines, ice machines and washer/dryer are all located on the first floor. The owners also reside at the property which I feel is a plus. Immediately across the street are many stores (Big 5, Dollar Tree, Baskin Robbins), Food (Applebees, Jack in the Box, Subway) and a movie theater. In short - stay away, you'd be better off sleeping in your car. My wife and I were planning to visit Monterey Bay and many of the motel/hotels in the area were already full. We called Motel 6 and all they had left was a room with two double beds for $75 (after taxes and fees $85). We arrived in the evening around 8pm. The motel was a slum. When we entered the elevator It had graffiti scratched into just about every possible surface and we were met with an odor that we could only assume was the remainder of something that had vomited, drown in it's own vomit, and then died. On top of this scent was a very offensive chemical cleaner odor as well - that led us to believe that they had just backed a truck up of cleaner solution and dumped it inside in an attempt to bury the body. Too bad it only made things worse. We got to our room, after shouldering past a few other clients that looked like prostitutes and drug addicts. We got to the door and neither of the card keys we were given worked. We crept back downstairs, trying not to upset the drug dealers' normal business. The girl at the counter apologized for our inconvenience and declared she had no idea why our key-cards wouldn't have worked.. while at the same time quickly and covertly swiping our cards in a machine next to her, handing them back, and telling us to try again. We returned up to the room after another nose-filled trip in the Elevator of Vomit-Death. We got to our non-smoking room a second time, opened the door, entered and were immediately overwhelmed with the burnt stench of really dank weed smoked in very confined quarters. The smell was so pungent, that even after leaving the room and returning back down to the front desk my wife could still smell the odor on my clothes. This was the end our stay, droogies. We requested a refund, drove to an IHOP parking lot and slept in our mini-van -- away from the horrors of drug addicts, dealers, and prostitutes -- away from the stench of nauseous death, despair and burnt habits. Unless you are a wino, crack/meth user, busy hooker, or practice coprophagia - stay away from this one. I noticed someone else's review mentioned there are some nice automobiles in the parking lot sometimes... yup, that's what drug dealers drive. read more

This is an ok place to stay, inexpensive, especially if you're priced out of Santa Cruz. Clean for the most part. The negative is the women working in the office. I dread walking in there. Sour, unfriendly & speak Spanish to each other while they're waiting in you. I understand all that they're saying too :-) The heavy set one doesn't like to get up out of her seat. Horrible customer service. Cannot stand them. They all need to find jobs in back offices away from customers. Never a smile or a welcome. The heater did not work at all. A maintenance man told me that it needs to be replaced AND that there are 10 or 12 more rooms like this with a broken heater that needs to be replaced. But this hotel has not even been ordering any new heaters! This shows that this motel doesn't even try to fix problems. And they knowingly give these rooms to paying customers ! Additionally: the room smelled bad - possibly due to some fluid used for cleaning. And the room was not well cleaned: there was debris still on the floor. Numerous of the front office staff are very incompetent. I experienced the young woman who manned the front office desk on the late evening/night of Friday 14 Feb 2020 to be shockingly rude. Also: she grossly overcharged me for my stay for a total amount of $500 for 2 days! And she was not the only person guilty of overcharging. The day manager the following day half corrected the previous desk clerk's overcharges but still overcharged me an absurd $300 for a Friday and Saturday for this budget hotel room with a broken heater. Ultimately, I was contacted via email by Motel 6 corporate headquarters requesting that I provide feedback of my experience. Then the corporate headquarters reduced my charge down to a more reasonable $75/day. First the night desk clerk charged me $500 for 2 days. Then the daytime manager "fixed" this by reducing the charge to $300. Then Corporate Headquarters had to step in reduce the charge for 2 days down to a more proper $150. for 2 days. This is a Motel 6 from Hell. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place. read more

I'm a single mother with 4 kids and I'm always sketch and extra protective when it comes to staying at places where the atmosphere is unsafe. After reading reviews I was not sure what I was getting myself into. My daughter had a softball tournament and this place was literally the only hotel left in town. I paid $525 for two nights, what do you expect for convenience. I gave this place 5 stars for a number of reasons. The location is perfect. Your literally 4 minute drive from target, big 5, Starbucks, sushi, dollar store, pizza, apple bees, and Verizon. What more could you possibly need???!!! The actually hotel met my expectations for a motel 6. The bed was small and springy. Blankets where ruff and not really comfy but we brought our own and just slept on top of the bed. We went to the pool for about and hour and over all I would have to say it was a pleasant stay. The area itself had a lot of squatter looking people just wandering around the parking lot. People out side there rooms talking, drinking. I didn't mind, they kept to themselves and I spent a minimal amount of time out side out hotel room so it wasn't an issue. My daughter actually forgot her slippers at the pool and someone came and returned them to us. You get what you pay for but I was happy with the stay, nothing fancy. This is my first time at this motel. I will give both the pros and cons. Pros: They were very accommodating to our situation. My dad booked my room. And accidentally got us a family of 4, a room with one bed. I explained the situation to the front desk and they immediately put me in a room with two beds. Unfortunately that particular room smelled like an ashtray. I went back to the front desk and they switched my room again. All the hotels in watsonville are booked because of spring break so I was very pleased they did the switching of our rooms so quickly. Now for the cons: I've never been in a room with the bear necessities. There are 2 very loud itchy beds. Every movement you hear a crinkle. There was no clock, no shampoo. It was so weird to not have those things. Of course there wasn't a hair dryer, iron or coffee maker. You get what you pay for I guess. There was a cigarette hole on the comforter. There was a snot-like yellowish stain on the flat sheet -- we took it off. The sink did not drain so left gunk and bacteria after every use. Bathroom had funky odor. Walls are thin; you can hear every noise from your room. Door keys were jenky. I was grossed out every single night. Don't expect any amenities besides a bar of soap. You have to pay for wifi. It was not worth it being thrifty. I will never stay here again. Why, oh why do I do this to myself? We all do it from time to time - that temping fate decision to click the 'book now' button to a motel 6. One would really think I might have learned my lesson by now - this time I finally did. We stayed here as it was close to our work location for the weekend. Bad, bad choice. Thank you Motel 6 Watsonville for enforcing the fact that I will never, ever, by choice, stay at a Motel 6 again in my life. Since staying one horrific night at this particular Motel 6, I have since watched several episodes of 'Cops', wondering if I might see myself in the background, peeking out of the curtains of our room, fearing for my life. OK, not fearing for my life, but still pretty damn worried. We did not get to experience the elevator, because it was broken. We did not get to experience the ice or vending issues - because they were broken. Our room, which was the size of a jail cell, was right by the stairs on the 3rd floor. All night long we heard stomping, more stomping, then some yelling, talking, laughing and more stomping. Then, when you think things can not get worse - they do. I guess its a nice thing for a hotel to be pet friendly... if you don't mind large, barking dogs from midnight until 5 am. Who does not love the CONSTANT barking of two pitbulls all night right? I mean, if you really try, it could be soothing and help you sleep! Next comes the fights - and this is not just any fight - this is a fight that some how was able to take place on all three floors of the hotel, at the same time! These were some very talented low lifes, not your average run of the mill. This action packed fight went on and on and on and on... for over 3 hours, non stop. Call the front desk you might say at this point, right? Oh yeah - I did. About 15 times. No answer. Maybe the front desk person was hiding from the fight - or maybe the front desk person was participating in the fight - who knows, but whatever they were doing, they were not answering the phone. Some time around 4 AM the cops show up. More yelling. The cops ask the large group of people to leave. Here is the clincher - remember, the elevator is broken right? This whole group of people are going to get their last hurrah - I mean they just paid 85.98 for their nights stay, so they are going to let everyone know they are getting their moneys worth - every single person stomped down all three flights of stairs - and every single person let their stupid roller bags slam down every single step all the way down. F&%king A&%$@*es. 4:51 AM - finally. Silence. 5:10 AM - alarm goes off - time to go to work. Get up, take a quick, cold shower (not by choice) and attempt to dry off with a scratchy, sand paper type towel that is the size of a postage stamp and off we go, never to return - ever. When checking out, I asked to speak to a manager. I left my contact info, and have called to speak to him 6 times since my stay a week ago - no call back. He probably hears these sort of complaints a lot.... Or maybe he was kidnapped by drug dealers and hookers! read more

The staff at this hotel is careless, not rude, but not friendly--an overall "I don't really want to be here, so I don't really care what you need" kind of attitude. I had booked it in advance on priceline because it was the least expensive hotel in the santa cruz area. It would have been fine except for the following, which made it terrible and highly UNrecommendable. The room had an incredibly strong wet-dog odor. I was tired when I got there so I didn't want to change rooms. I thought that the longer I was in the room, the less it would smell, as the nose usually adjusts to bad odors, but it never got ANY better. It was strong the entire night and into the next day. I actually got really nauseos from the smell. When we went to the front desk to ask for a candle or air freshener or something, they gave us a bottle of "all purpose cleaner" to spray in the air and told us that all of the downstairs rooms are used for people with pets. We had several suitcases that we didn't want to drag up the stairs, so that was really annoying. I suppose the upstairs rooms possibly don't smell bad? I don't know.. The other really annoying thing is that I was there to look for apartments in Santa Cruz and reeaaallly needed the internet to look up apartments. We paid the extra $3 for wifi that worked for 2 minutes, then stopped working for hours, then worked for 2 minutes, then stopped working for hours until giving up. I got absolutely no searching done and wasted a lot of time and money being there. It was incredibly frustrating. They ended up giving us a refund for the wifi, but I really would have rather not been inconvenienced and just paid the extra money. The room also had no fridge, no microwave, and no coffee maker. The only thing I enjoyed in the hotel was the shower, which was wonderful actually. So, if you don't mind no internet, no food/drink storage, and incredibly strong dog smell, have at it. I've stayed near Monterey and you could at least walk around the room without bumping in to your roommate. I had to wipe down everything and the floors had shit stuck to them from not being mopped. WE COUKD LITERALLY SEE THE DIRT UNDER THE BED. Toilet had no cover to place things on let alone a hook to hang your towel. Just a bar not good your stuff will slide right in to toilet. I used my flip flops to shower in and the drain didn't work well so I basically soaked my feet in other peoples dirt. The microwave wasn't wiped down. I kept calling the day of to make sure my room was still being held as we were running late. They never picked up and there were at least three staff there that I could see WHEN I GOT THERE. ALL OF TGRM LOOKED LIKE DEER CAUGHT IN HEADLIGHT. DIDNT KNIW HOW TO DO A CASH/credit transaction. The people staying there didn't care how loud they were. There were about 5 men huddled in one room next door drinking until 2-3 am. Curtains were filthy and smelled like dirt. What a shame being in a location near million dollar estates and this disgusting refugee camp there. NASTY NASTY NASTY. IM HOPING NO ROACHES CRAWLED ON US LET ALONE BED BUGS. I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED. I stay at motel 6 fairly often since they are cheap and allow dogs without additional cost. I don't expect any frills, Motel 6 is bare bones basic but usually does the job. Many we have stayed in have had "regulars", but none have ever been this sketchy. There were two tweakers hanging out outside there rooms on the bottom floor, one who ended up roaming around the parking lot in his tighty-whities (underwear). We avoided them as best we could. The worst came at 5 in the morning as we had to call 911 on the couple in the room next to us as he had started slamming her around the room. My life has been lucky enough that I have never had to listen to or witness something like this before, and it is pretty bizarre that I was paying for the experience. I don't care how cheap this motel was it was not cheap enough. As if it can't get worse the cops never even came, the guy just ran out of steam and they both left together about an hour later When we reported this to the desk in the morning they were completely unfazed. It was probably not the first time. The room itself was adequate , the pillows incredibly flat. Spend more money and stay somewhere else, not cheap enough for the experience. read more

It's shit hole, I'm giving it two starts because of the price. It's dirty, it smells, everything is breaking down and they don't do rOom service unless you ask for it. WTF! Should be the other way around. read more
