    Vegan peanut stew
    Lauren F.

My friend and I have been dying to try this place for over a year after a previous attempt to visit. I'm happy to say it was worth the wait! We ordered the tofu peanut stew and the chicken egusi. Both were delicious and completely new flavor profiles for us, but the peanut stew was the star of the show! I could eat it every day. The thing to keep in mind for this spot - and the reason that we weren't able to eat the first time - is that it's all run by one lovely woman with no help. The result is that service is understandably very slow and it's difficult to accommodate groups. I definitely want to come back because I loved the food, but it's definitely best to set your expectations accordingly - take-out may be the move if you can. I think both the items we tried are worth ordering and I'm excited to try out more on the menu. We were also pleasantly surprised to see such a huge range of vegan options!

A True Taste of Home and Unforgettable Hospitality! Motherland Kitchen is an absolute hidden gem tucked away in Frederick, MD, and it is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, flavorful African cuisine. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was absolutely amazing. The staff made us feel instantly welcomed, like stepping into a family home. Their warmth and genuine attentiveness truly elevated the entire dining experience. And then there's the food! The meal was nothing short of delicious, and it genuinely made me feel at home. Every dish was prepared with care, showcasing complex and vibrant flavors that were simply outta this world. The spices were perfectly balanced, the ingredients were fresh, and the portions were generous. If you are looking for a dining experience that combines exceptional service with truly authentic and mouthwatering food, look no further. Motherland Kitchen is a 10/10--a cherished find and a beautiful addition to Frederick's culinary scene.

    Goat stew

Looked up places to eat while here visiting. When I pulled up to this side of the road restaurant, my expectations went through the roof because that means there would be no fluff. They did not disappoint got the goat stew and follow. Was very tasty and could have been more spicy for me, but meat was cooked to perfection. The lady who was working was sweet, was the server and cook so didn't get alot of attention but wasn't really needed,as the food was there steaming hot.if you in the area give it a try.

I been wanting to try for the longest and finally went in and place an order to go. The service was good and fast and food was fresh and hot. The owner and even another worker there greeted myself and my two girls smiling and talking. Ambiance was very welcoming. I almost forgot to take a picture of my food. We started eating already but a good amount of food for sure. All the food super good and fresh. I will be returning and I highly recommend

We were looking for a spot that had good vegetarian options for our friends. I'm not super familiar with Jamaican cuisine beyond Jerk Chicken and rice and peas so I tried to pick some things that sounded good. I ordered over the phone and they were very patient with me not being able to pronounce everything perfectly but they took their time and made sure to get our order completely. They were super friendly and the food was ready to pick up quickly! We tried the Coco Bread which was huge as well as nice and sweet and fluffy. We also tried a vegetarian patty which had a great flaky crust on the outside. Next we tried the Ital Stew which I wasn't sure what it would be exactly but he said it would be a variety of mixed vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and had a very mild but great flavor! There were so many of them in the portion as well! The rice and peas were tender yet not overcooked at all, and deliciously seasoned... they had a hint of heat in the aftertaste that was very pleasant. My sister got the Brown Stew chicken with mac and cheese and rice and peas. The brown stew chicken was HUGE... had a nice sweet flavor and the chicken was tender falling off the bone. The mac and cheese was very good. You can tell it's homemade, in a good way. Like your favorite aunt whos been making it for years made it for the cookout. The steamed callaloo was an unexpected favorite for the table. We absolutely loved it- the greens were cooked perfectly and we felt it had a very light tasting flavor as opposed to some lard/bacon heavy methods of cooking greens like that. It doesn't taste overly vegetable-y either... I think little kids would even like it. And then a pleasant buzz from the heat of some peppers. The jerk chicken also had a pleasant heat, and again a huge portion for what was called a "small"!! There was also a nice tangy sauce on the side. All in all... the people were very nice and the food was so delicious! I love finding a place where I can eat vegetables that are cooked in a flavorful and healthy way. On top of that, the food is affordable and you definitely get what you pay for... everything was huge! I would definitely recommend Taste of Reggae.

It was very flavorful with the citrus notes. I substituted the plantains for yucca, I'm a sucker for yucca. This meal was quite large and gave me plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, and other staff members also checked in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the Fried Yuca with mojo sauce, which was cooked very well - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The accompanying dipping sauce wasn't really to our taste, as it appeared to be oil-based, but that's more of a personal preference than a criticism of the dish itself. For our entrée, we ordered the Seafood Paella with tostones for two. The quality of the seafood was good, and the dish was flavorful overall. My only criticism is that the paella seemed a bit heavy on the rice compared to the amount of seafood and protein. There was certainly plenty of food to share, but I would have preferred a slightly better balance between the rice and seafood. The atmosphere was also enjoyable. We visited around 5 PM and were seated in the front corner of the restaurant by the windows. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable, while still feeling lively enough to create a nice dining experience. Background Latin music played throughout our meal, which complemented the restaurant's vibe without being overwhelming. Overall, we had a positive experience thanks to the quality of the food, attentive service, and pleasant atmosphere. I'd be happy to return and try more of the menu in the future.

After a very long hike in the morning, the wife and I decided to pick up something for lunch. And while looking for something new in the area, the wife decided to give this place a shot. We stopped by the place which is tucked in between some other warehouse stores, in the corner, not on the main road. We decided to order our food and Chef Pat was so kind and professional, he stopped by our car in the parking lot as we were struggling to find the place. The food we ordered is in the pictures, jerk chicken, Ackee & Saltfish, Mango Rum Cake, conch fritters, plantains and some beans and rice. We were running late, so the chef said they will deliver the food to our place. When the food was delivered to us, there was some miscommunication between what was ordered vs. delivered. However, when we called them, they apologized for the mistake and took care of it right away. After all this, I was, tbh, a little upset. And we sat down to open our delivery boxes since we were super hungry. As the lids opened, the aroma of the food filled the area. My frown turned into a smile right away. Now, I was getting excited to try the food, everything was packed very nicely for delivery, & was still nice and warm. Once we started tasting the dishes, I was floored. I have to say, by far, very very far, this is the best Caribbean food I have had in the US, thus far. The jerk chicken is cooked to perfection, I believe the chef mentioned they make it fresh everyday. The plantains were just so amazing, caramelized to perfection. The conch fritters were a perfect accompaniment with a sweet and spicy sauce. What truly left me speechless was the ackee and Saltfish, I cannot even begin to describe how good that dish was. I am a fan of Caribbean food now, if it's this good! To finish off, we split the Mango Rum Cake, where all we kept saying, after every bite was "yummm", as we kept closing our eyes to experience that perfect finishing touch to our meal. The food was cooked with a lot of skill, care and tons of love. The staff is coming up to speed and being trained, but the attitude of the chef is super professional and customer care oriented. A Hell Yeah 5 Star Review! Will keep going here, for sure. Wish you much success...!!!

Island Food To Go is an operation ran by Chef Pat, and you can really taste the authenticity in his food. You pre-order via calling the number or directly texting the number that is provided and then you can pick up the food curb-side, or you can have it delivered to your home. The jerk chicken was mind-blowingly good; the jerk marinade was so well-balanced and it had just the right amount of heat for my taste. The salt-fish and ackee dish was so delicious! Combine that with the red beans and rice and you have a comforting and delicious meal that is soul-satisfying. With each entree you have a choice of either white rice, yellow rice or red beans and rice. The mango rum cake we ordered was moist, buttery and perfectly baked. I can't wait to order their caribbean spice cake next time. There was a massive mix-up in terms of what was charged and what was actually delivered when the delivery driver delivered our food, but the business owner was quick to rectify the driver's mistake. They are still fairly new and fine-tuning their logistics, but with their level of professionalism and superior quality of food, I see this place becoming a big success. Can't wait to order my next meal from them!
