History: Every motorcycle I've owned - 1986 Honda CMX450, 2014 Triumph Thruxton, and 2006 Suzuki DRZ400SM - has been worked on by Moto Classic Garage. This was back when Bob was still active and they were located at 977 W Hyde Park. Timeline of Events: **Thursday, Apr 18, 2024: No update. **Wednesday, Apr 17, 2024: Around 1:30 PM, I called to ask for an update. I was told the work hasn't started yet, but either "it's on the list for today" or "it will be on the lift today." I couldn't really hear well due to the background noise. Seemed busy. **Tuesday, Apr 16, 2024: No update. **Monday, Apr 15, 2024: Another failed attempt at bump starting and kickstarting, even with fresh fuel and starter fluid. No big deal, I fully intended to take it to Moto Classic Garage for a post-purchase inspection anyway, because regardless of how trustworthy the seller may seem, always trust but verify. So around noon, I called Moto Classic Garage and spoke with Mike for a few minutes, then I was at the shop about 30 minutes later. After troubleshooting, he determined that I have a "no spark situation." My estimate for the post-purchase inspection, no spark situation, and a new fuel leak issue (probably just due to a stuck float, but TBD) was $350 to $500, but "probably closer to the lower end." Naturally, I asked when it will be ready so I have an idea when to follow up. Mike said that he will start with charging the battery overnight and work will start on Tuesday. **Sunday, Apr 14, 2024: Purchased a 1976 Yamaha DT125 after a visual inspection, test ride, and asking the seller a ton of questions. The seller claims that the fluids are fresh, the tires, chain, and battery are new, and that the carbs have been cleaned. It started from cold with a bit of starting fluid in the spark plug hole and it ran fine during my 15-minute test ride. Seller and I loaded it on the hitch carrier after we finalized the purchase, talked shop some more, and successfully starting it one more time - with one kick, without starting fluid, and after being off for about 20 minutes. When I got home though, it would not start at all. Tried bump starting and kickstarting, but still nothing. read more

I'm the original owner and I haven't been riding it much lately so it's been running rough and then I noticed it was leaking gas so I took it in and Mike took the carburetors off, fixed it up and fixed a couple of other things that he noticed that needed work And the bikes running great now real happy with his work. I called this place to get my dead 2002 Triumph Sprint worked on. The guy that answered the phone, never got his name, acted weird like he didn't want to work on the bike. Finally he gave me an appointment. The address he gave is not the address on Yelp. The bike doesn't run so I had to rent a trailer to get it to the shop. I get to the shop and it looks abandoned. No signs, the windows are all barred, no motorcycles to be seen. I thought I had the wrong address. I call the shop number. Turns out I'm at the right address but the guy on the phone says they're closed today. WTF?!? I remind him I had an appointment. He tells me he has covid. I ask why he didn't call and tell me? He says he forgot. I smell a rat. He complained about how hard the bike was to work on. I told him ok but I'm willing to pay to get it running so what's the problem? I think he didn't have the integrity to tell me he didn't want to work on the bike. So now I'm sitting there with a dead bike on a rented trailer and nowhere to go. I have to return the trailer in a few hours. Luckily I get a hold of Alex at Motorcycle Performance Services and he says bring it on over. I've known Alex for 30 years but stopped going there when I moved. Now my bike is in Alex's very capable hands. Thanks for nothing Moto Classic Garage. I will never go back. read more

I've been here many times for tire changes, routine maintanence, they got my seat reupholstered, gave my bike a makeover when it had been sitting for awhile, and even a serious overhaul on a new bike I bought. So I don't leave Yelp reviews, period. But whoo brother, if there is one man on earth who deserves a good yelp it's Bob. I've been working on getting a non-running 1981 Honda CX500D back up and going all summer and thought I had just about got it right. Mikunis jetted proper and everything. I get down here from SF and boom, dead. Won't start. I call Bob, who comes on a BICYCLE to see if my lithium battery is shot (and saves me from buying a new one by telling me to unplug it immediately). It's not. But the ignition is. Bob works until 11 pm that night diving into what's wrong AND finding a part in the Czech Republic that is a workaround for my bad ignition coils, as opposed to taking out the engine. ON TOP OF THAT, Bob correctly guesses that there's a flat spot in my acceleration WITHOUT EVER SEEING OR HEARING IT RUN. This guy just plain knows his stuff on old bikes. This place is top notch in terms of service and quality! I brought my bike in because the seat was coming lose under the tank. Bob brought it back right away and began working on it, we couldn't figure out what the issue was so he tried multiple different things and even did some additional research to help diagnose the issue. He finally solved the problem and we were able to get the seat installed back on my bike nice and snug, and Carolina also managed to remove my front fender (as per request) while Bob adjusted my clutch lever all at no additional charge! This review is a bit late, but I rarely use Yelp so writing this never crossed my mind until today. I was living in L.A. over the summer and bought a bike. I heard great things about the shop so I brought my bike by to have the guys give it a once over. Bob and his two mechanics were great, they test rode the bike and pointed out a few things to watch out for and then suggested I get a major service to include valve adjustment, new chain and an oil change. When I came back by the bike seemed to be running well and everything seemed fine. The mechanic gave me a warning saying that I needed to make sure that I kept it topped off on oil and that when I brought it in that it was low. I thought this was strange as I had topped it off a couple times already as it had a small leak, but I assumed that the mechanic knew more than me and that I had been reading the oil level wrong (it has a window to view the level). I took the bike home and within a few days I felt the power fall off a bit, but I chalked it up to the bike being 40 years old. Shortly after, I move back to AZ and continue to ride the bike, it runs worse and worse, feeling like it is working way too hard. I do some of my own research and find out that the symptoms point to the bike being overfilled on oil. I realize that I had not been reading the oil wrong and that I can see that it is overfilled, I pulled almost 6 liters of oil out of a motor with a capacity of 3.5L. The bike was pushing so much oil that I can tell the valves are out of adjustment again. So, the valve job was a waste, I ended up having to change the oil myself, the only worthwhile service was replacing the chain, a $600 chain job is not what I signed up for.... Bob was great when I met him and I will say that he never had the chance to make this right as I had already moved back to Arizona before I realized the oversight, but screwing up an oil change is pretty disappointing. read more

I needed to make my Yamaha fz6 '08 to be "naked" and the same day I called and talked to Bob and he said come will take a look at it. So I did. I really liked the service when you right there staying and talking to people who really knows what they're doing. Prices are lower than everywhere i called. They asked me to hang out for a few hours and during waiting time Bob would text me information and even pictures of what is happening with bike right at that moment which was very nice. My husband took his motorcycle to this place, the owner was always very rude, my husband asked how long they were going to give him his motorcycle, it took more than 1 month to give him an answer, and they only did 2 services of the 5 that the motorcycle needed, my husband was upset by the situation, for which he asked for it to be returned to him, when they brought it my husband realized that the motorcycle was fully accelerated, the throttle stuck, I had to help him push the motorcycle to put it in our house, they are totally lousy in their work and in the treatment. read more

The battery was shot and I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything else. Every time I asked something he answered back very rudely. I know I'm not an expert so I ask questions to learn and simply gain knowledge. In the end I just needed a simple battery change. For him it was too much and it was not worth dealing with his poor attitude and definitely not worth giving them my business or money. Writing this review much too late as Bob and his crew had been helping me for the past two years with my 2003 Ducati monster. Since my bike was an older model his was the only shop I could find around LA willing to work on it that wasn't the Ducati dealer, which never had a wait time less than a month. Ive relied on Bob and Mike to fix my bike 4 or 5 times and they always comes through with reliable, trustworthy work at a fair price. Even when the issue was a problem with the computer communication and multiple mechanics couldn't figure it out, Bob used his spare time for weeks to work on it until he got my ride running again. These people are the worst. they are a rip off, the manager unpolite and the mechanic the worst cheaters and just a rip off I will never go there again. Well I wouldn't say that I took my motorcycle but a month and a half ago to the shop for a simple gas leak they ended up telling me that I need it rebuilt the carburetor charge me $500 for it and I told him to fix the choke and it was still the same and didn't seem to have clean the carburetor at all. The bike was running the same as when I took it in. Also, they added another charge for $180 for what they call extra labor which is the oil change I cannot believe it my gosh these people are a rip off. To top it off still they didn't put back the rubber that holds the gas tank. read more
