Bought a 2009 Suzuki Dr-200SE sight unseen from this dealership in the winter of 2021/2022. It was a first bike and bought without visiting in-person because, at the time, I was going to college in central Michigan. I was hesitant about pulling the trigger because it was a bit of an older bike, but it had previously been used for a motorcycle safety course and had low miles. The dealership was easy to communicate with and assured me the bike was functioning fine. Since Suzuki has a good reputation for reliability and simplicity (especially for a small engine like this one), I figured I could make any minor repairs due to its age myself. Since then, unfortunately, the bike has been plagued by near-constant issues. It arrived non-functional with a flat battery, and the new battery I was sent by the dealership did not help, either (likely because the choke was broken). There have been expensive electrical issues, gasket issues, and now undiagnosed engine trouble, and I've had the bike out for maintenance almost as much as I've been able to ride it. At this point I'll likely have to sell for parts, as doing a complete engine rebuild may not be worth the price of the bike. Looking back, it was a foolish decision on my part to buy what could be a "lemon" sight unseen (or without at least getting a second opinion from a mechanic before buying). Still, I'm pretty disappointed that I put my trust in this dealership. The bike has had too many issues for the low mileage I've put on it putting around town, and the bike was not in functioning shape when it arrived. Your mileage may vary, but if I were buying a motorcycle again, I would look elsewhere. read more

I'm ALWAYS greeted warmly by the staff and owner and I'm ALWAYS appreciative of the low pressure approach. It's a luxury purchase. When I'm ready I'll be ready to talk and get their expert advice/assistance. They know that. I know that. Meanwhile a stroll through their new showroom never fails to whet my appetite. If you're looking for a dirt bike keep driving. I've never felt so uncomfortable and unwanted in a place where I was spending $10,000 on a toy. I've taken all my mopeds/scooters here for the past 4-5 years. They do excellent work and can source parts easily. I purchased a new scooter here in 2017, and the sales team is very knowledgeable and I felt no pressure whatsoever. The finance person worked to help me find a loan to get financing. Unfortunately, I was involved in a hit & run on the way home from Moto on my brand new scooter, and it was totaled (thanks for hitting me, random driver!). The service manager gave me a damage estimate for free so I could have it for the insurance company. At times, I've had to wait 2 weeks for parts due to their sources location outside the States and having the parts come through Customs. I needed my scooter on the road ASAP b/c it's my only means of transportation, and a 2 week downtime really set me back. Aside from this single incident, the only other con to this business is their labor rate. They are the only business in RVA that will repair certain brands of scooter, and at $110/hour for labor, the bill grows very quickly sometimes! I recently spent close to $500 on repairs when I've supplied all my own parts. I have to say, the customer service the Moto team provides is top notch. They are always willing to go above & beyond to help when I've needed it. Recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I needed to put new plates on my scooter before riding it away from the shop. They told me I could keep my scooter there until I got plates without being charged a storage fee. I cannot thank these guys enough for their dedication to the community! read more

I've been here a few times over the past year since I bought my Sprint from a private seller. I have to say their customer service is simply amazing. No sales pressure, no condescending attitude if you're not buying, just friendly people that love to talk motorcycles! Shortly after I bought my bike, I brought it in early (9k miles) for it's 12k service before a road trip. During the trip, the bike started smoking while idling on the kickstand. I checked the oil and found it a little overfull and figured that was the cause (no big deal), but called the shop to get a second opinion. They agreed and asked me to bring it back in when I got home, just to make sure everything was ok. Two days later, THEY called ME to make sure I wasn't having any other issues. That did it for me! I got a decent trade-in for the scooter and got a couple free (promotion from Triumph) accessories. I took my bike in for service (check engine light) yesterday and while I waited, I took out a Zero electric moto for a spin and ride out for lunch. Along with their scooters (Vespa, Genuine), they're also Triumph/Guzzi/Zero dealers. Great location, next door to Legend Brewing... to have a beer or a bite to eat while you wait on service. The folks over at Scoot Richmond are seriously out to prove to me that the art of customer service is not dead (I'm not gonna lie, I sometimes think no one cares about giving good service anymore!). Everyone I've met or worked with there over the past few weeks, between scouting out and then purchasing and then having a little work done on my new scooter, could not have been any nicer and more knowledgable and helpful. The owner, Chelsea, clearly loves what she does and has a passion for bringing people and bikes together, and she runs a great shop with like-minded people. The parts & maintenance wizard, Will, could not be more approachable and is bursting at the seams with 'all things bike' knowledge to share. The sales guys don't "sell" you things but instead listen to what your needs and interests are and lead you to the perfect match if it exists in the shop or offer to help you find/order it if it isn't right there for you. On top of excelling at running a great business with great products, the folks over at Scoot somehow remember every customer and every story they tell I think. There are always warm greetings and familiar sounding conversations between the staff and customers going on around me when I'm there, and they always ask me how my new small business is doing and send Bruiser (my Vespa) and I off with smiles. I'm going to start off this 5-star review in a controversial way: I believe Scoot Richmond accidentally busted the turn signal on my Roughhouse. Scoot Richmond has always provided amazing service; both with purchasing and servicing my scooter. The people who work there could not be nicer or more professional; they are experts who know exactly what they are doing and don't mess around with your ride. Just yesterday I went in because I needed some new front brakes put on my Roughhouse. It took them an hour and a half, all told, and I got to enjoy lunch at Legend during a workday. So far, we are way ahead. On my ride home from Scoot I noticed my front right turn signal was hanging. off. And it was dripping a little brake fluid. Once I got home I took a deep breath and gave them a call. I had once gotten a dent in the body of my old car while it was waiting to be serviced, so I expected the whole rigga-ma-role of "it was fine when it left" "can't prove it was us" "we can fix it, but it'll cost ya." Nope; the guy went and checked with the back, they told me to bring it on back whenever I could and they'd check it out. Went back this morning, hung around for 30 minutes, left with a brand new turn signal and paid nothing. Nobody even raised an eyebrow and asked me to recount the events. Great service, friendly staff and if they make a mistake they have your back. Would recommend to anyone. read more

Yes, sometimes the service takes a little while. That's because they are hella busy being the best shop in the middle Atlantic region. After purchasing my first scooter a year ago I have been back to the store for additions, tune-ups and so on and they always treat me like a valued customer and I never feel like my dumb questions are a pain. It gets four stars instead of five because sometimes it may take a little time to get a repair done. This is a minor issue and I would give Scoot Richmond 4.75 stars if it were possible. read more

I had taken my motorcycle to another local dealership for some repair. With just over 60,000 miles on it, it was starting to give me some general problems and thought it was time to get it looked over, tuned up and in good running order. $1300 later, I went to pick my bike up and when I attempted to ride it away, it wouldn't go into first gear. I consulted the service writer, who said "It shifts really hard, and we wouldn't recommend riding it that way." It had never had clutch or transmission issues prior to the visit to this other OEM dealer. Consequently, the bike sat in front of my house for three months because I wasn't sure another repair bill of that size was sensible for an older motorcycle with high mileage. Then, one day, it dawned on me that Scoot might work on my bike. Prior to the motorcycle, I'd owned a Genuine Roughhouse that I'd purchased from Scoot. The entire process of buying the scooter had been a pleasure. Every time I'd brought the scooter in for maintenance, it was also a pleasure. Their labor rate was low and I always had a great experience with them, so I called to ask if they could work on a motorcycle from a manufacturer they didn't sell. Chelsea (the owner) answered the phone and told me in no uncertain terms that they could work on my bike and they'd be happy to get things figured out. I brought it down a few days later. After sitting for three months because it wouldn't go into first gear, it needed to have the carburetors cleaned. After the carburetors being cleaned, the head technician said the bike was running great and in great shape overall. I described the transmission issue I'd been having, and he said there was no issue with it. Finding that odd since I'd been riding the bike for more than a year, he and I continued to talk about it. Then he asked me how long the bike had been set up with super bike shifting (which would be first gear up, four gears down). It had never had super bike shifting. The OEM dealer I'd taken it to before had changed it to super bike shifting and never bothered to tell me. When I called them, they told me it came in with super bike shifting. As I said, I'd been riding the bike for more than a year, and it had standard shifting the entire time. The other dealership essentially ended up costing me another carb cleaning because they'd failed to tell me they changed the transmission set up and then they either lied to me about it or hadn't known enough about a bike from one of the manufacturers they sold to know it never had that set up. Let's just say I wasn't pleased with them, and as a result, I ended up selling the bike not long after because I didn't want a motorcycle that I wasn't going to be able to have competent dealer support for. I then bought another scooter from Scoot Richmond. It gave me two years of reliable service and many, many miles of great fun. They've always taken great care of me in both the sales and service aspects. I've also bought four helmets, three jackets and four sets of gloves through the years, and I've always been extremely happy with their selection and the help they've been able to give me in finding the right gear for me. I'm currently in the process of working out a deal to trade that scooter in for a Triumph, as Scoot has brought in the Triumph motorcycles in the last year. Scoot Richmond has never steered me wrong and never been anything but completely fair and helpful to me. I don't see myself ever buying a motorcycle or scooter from any other dealer. read more

Before we even visited Scoot Richmond, we called about five times to ask questions. They were very patient and helpful. We went to Scoot Richmond on a Tuesday, this was our first venture to this side of Richmond. The parking was a little confusing, we pulled into the service lot. We turned around and found parking on the street, which was fine. We were greeted by a friendly dog named Duckie, after being in the shop for a couple of hours, I really wanted to take him home. Anyway, the owner greeted us also and told us everything we could ever want to know about scooters. She helped us find the perfect scooter and helmet. They didn't have the exact design on the helmet that I wanted. So she encouraged me to get a helmet and make it my own and I am really glad that I listened to her advice. She even demonstrated two different ways to lock the scooter up with the lock that I purchased. Everyone at the shop was extremely friendly! Raymond did an awesome job showing us all the scooter's features before we left and even helped secure the scooter to our truck! We are smitten by Scoot Richmond!!! We will be bringing the scooter from Fredericksburg to get it serviced here. read more

This place is not trustworthy, DO NOT go here for maintenance or service. I really wanted to use Scoot because it is close to my house, has a nice "hipster" vibe, and most of the staff are polite. That said, every time I have taken a bike there they have attempted to overcharge me. I'm fine with a mark up on parts and charging reasonable rates for labor, everyone has to make money, but they quote one price, then once the bike is in their possession they attempt to charge a much higher amount. I have had them call me to charge more, then when I say something doesn't sound right and push for parts/labor details they say "let me check and call you back" then call with a different price. The final straw was last time they went to put mirrors on my scooter, they drilled into my bike without asking then charged me a fee for doing something that frankly I never would have authorized. They scam consumers. I won't be back. read more
