Hawaiian Salmon Poke Bowl, sub bacon for crispy eggplant
    Lindsey H.

This build-your-own bowl or roll spot offers a variety of delicious proteins and toppings with plenty of space to sit. I appreciate the options for greens, white rice, brown rice, or a combo for the base. I loved the crispy eggplant, especially dipped in the jalapeño aioli. The salmon poke was cut and flavored well. The toppings tasted fresh and added a great texture to the bowl. I loved the addition of asparagus, which I don't often see in poke bowls. The happy hour $3 off from 2-5 p.m. is a great deal and brought my filling bowl down to $15.75. My order wasn't accurate -- I had to go up to the counter to ask for missing items that I had paid to add (edamame and a side of jalapeño aioli), but I was given them without a fuss. Everything was delicious and portion sizes were generous. I'd love to come back next time I'm in the area.

Food and service were excellent, but burritos fall apart, get the bowls! We stopped in for a late dinner on a Sunday night and Motomaki was still hopping! Ordering is through a screen, which made the process very seamless and quick, and we got our food right away. I loved the Japan-inspired and modern decor! We ordered the mochiko chicken wrap with soy paper, salmon curry wrap with nori and miso soup. The miso soup was delicious, and arrived in a little covered bowl to keep it warm. The mochiko chicken was a standout, very flavorful and crisp. The salmon curry was a little bland, but great balance of veggies and salmon. The soy paper held together ok, but our nori wrap was a puddle of rice after the first bite. It seems like the bowls would be a better option at this restaurant.

Don't skip!, might be one of my favorite quick dinner options.. We had bowls, and my group tried a variety from the menu, everyone loved what they had. The portion is great for the value, and the quality was really nice. Place was clean and vibrant. The service was good, you utilize a tablet to enter your order, which I like since I customized the bowl, and I was able to be picky with my order. Highly recommend, hopefully they open locations beyond CO!

I've been to motomaki a handful of times; a few in Boulder and then one at another location near Colorado Mills. Each time I've gone has been pretty consistently good. Parking at both locations can be kind of annoying, as the lots are shared with many other places to eat, and the lunch rushes can get a little crazy. Taking that into account, though, you can plan accordingly. Both locations are adequately staffed, clean, and the vibe has always been pretty laid back. I've not had a bad experience at either location in any capacity. Everyone's always super nice, meals are ready pretty quick, and most importantly, the food is always hot and fresh (or just fresh if you're getting something that's meant to be cold lol). The menu is pretty customizable as well, so there are a ton of options for any palate and the prices are fairly reasonable. They've also added self-checkout screens in the recent past which allows visitors to order themselves rather than going up to the counter. With this new addition, checking out has become quicker since there are more options for folks to order.

    1. Island Tuna Poke BOWL

This was a go-to lunch spot for me when working in Boulder. The staff has always been nice and efficient, the restaurant is clean with plenty of seating, and it is always fast and filling. My favorite bowls are the tempura shrimp bowl or the island tuna poke bowl, I usually get these with white rice or half rice half greens. They have tons of customization options, online ordering or a kiosk OR a human will take your order, never missed a modification to my bowl and always provided large portions. This is a solid meal every time, reasonably priced for a quality meal.

This place gave me more Asian fusion than an actual poke place. The fish was ok and I thought the cucumbers would be sliced thinner. The portion was big, but I don't think I'd ever come back here.

Good portions, but needs more variety of ingredients in the entrées themselves. Pricing is as expected for the area. Staff are nice, and the bathroom is clean :-) Good spot for a casual lunch!

Not the most authentic place (part of me is like why bacon?? But then another part of me does not mind at all that bacon is there) but the fish is fresh and the serving sizes are pretty good. It is on the pricier side, but then again it's fish.

Sushi-rito with spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, green onion, and fried onion
    Andrea N.

Ok I love this place. First of all I'd never had a sushi-rito before. And I was already psyched about that. However it was also just an amazing roll. I got the spicy tuna, which I usually avoid because it often has mayo in it. Not the case here, and it's delicious. I also loved the happy hour prices! Perfect post-hike late lunch. It was literally ~$15 total for a huge sushi-rito, and it was high quality. I'm bummed they don't have one of these closer to me in Denver, but 100% will be back. Often.

This location is always super clean, has friendly staff, and the food is always tasty. The food is always fresh, and portioned decently. I always get the Hawaiian Salmon bowl or burrito. This is a great grab and go or quick meal spot in Boulder if you're feeling like something heavier than a roll of sushi but also you don't want to feel stuffed. There is shared parking with other shopping and food spots so during the lunch or dinner hours it can get pretty busy around, but you can always order ahead and pick up. I'd also use the app to rack up points and perks.

    Kalua Pork Bowl
    Lesley M.

Motomaki really hit the spot after our 2 hour hike! I ate the Kalua Pork Bowl, and it was delicious. A hearty serving of shredded pork, cucumbers, dicon, carrots, kimchi, and brown rice with a jalapeño dressing. The service was fast - we waited less than 10 minutes to get our food. The ambiance was nothing special, but we were too distracted by our food to worry much about that! Overall, we had a great experience, and I will definitely be going back for more the next time I'm in Boulder!

It's sort of like having to kids with the same heritage but they are not exactly the same but neither is better than the other, they are just different. Tonight we needed a fish fix to get healthy Vitanin D for me and good clean protein for my husband. With veggies of course an a tasty dessert, I'm partial to sashimi and had some tender large pieces of very fresh hamachi. My husband also likes crab and crispy so he had the spider roll. We shared some happy hour specials, salmon avocado roll and yellowtail scallion. We started with the warm "magic mushrooms" which is named for its appearance but is actually salmon wrapped around a core of avocado and grill and garnished with a nice soy based drizzle and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Nice on a chilly evening with snow still melting across town. Since he had a few leftovers to serve as his lunch tomorrow, I ordered the salmon skin roll to go. Since it is not raw salmon it holds up beautifully overnite in the fridge. When home alone, it's my go to takeout item. The staff is impeccable and the seating pretty and comfortable. We can never have a bad time here these days. The menu is extensive so browse in advance if you can.

No longer a fan despite being a frequent customer…read more We sat at the long sushi counter today at about 11:30am, and unfortunately, it was disgustingly dirty. Along the entire metal section just above the eating counter, there appeared to be old rice and other food debris that looked as though it may have been left from the previous night. There were also food and/or soy sauce splatters along the wooden baseboard in the same area. To make matters worse, there was a noticeable accumulation of dust around three large sake bottles displayed in the corner. My photo unfortunately does not clearly show the extent of the filth. I asked our very nice waitress if the cleaning crew had been absent. She apologized and promptly began cleaning the counter herself, which I appreciated. However, that should never have been necessary. Someone should have cleaned these areas either at the end of the previous evening or before the restaurant opened. I also noticed staff cutting mounds of cucumbers with bare hands. To me not acceptable. Where was the management oversight? For a restaurant where customers are eating raw fish and other food prepared in front of them, cleanliness should be an absolute priority. We will not be returning. There are simply too many other sushi restaurants to patronize.
