Competent and inexpensive The 3.5-star rating and scathing reviews by some not-so-great reviewers are not a fair or accurate assessment of the quality Decatur Pro Auto gives you at a good price. I've had only great experiences with them, and on background, I used to work in the automotive industry, and I also lived in Germany, where car owners have to learn a lot about how cars work to get a license. So, mechanics and the workings of cars are no mystery to me. I first used them to fix damage to the body of my fiancee's daughter's car. It was the best, most realistic estimate for her older car. They did fantastic work and stayed on budget. After that, I gave them a crack at maintenance on my car because I felt my former mechanic (with raving 5-star ratings, a pleasant waiting room, and great telephone manners) was overcharging me. That former shop usually also sent an email squeezing me for a rave review after every visit. Decatur Pro Auto Repair has done thorough maintenance and repairs for me for years now, and they have made everything transparent. They have even told me when I did not need certain things when a less honest mechanic could have deceived me to squeeze me for money. Again, there have been no surprises in their invoices. Their customer interfacing is not as slick as some other places, but when you get beyond the superficial first encounters, you find straight-up folks. The owner has a degree in engineering, so you'll be hard-pressed to find a smarter shop. So, the choice may be to go to a place that manages you as a customer brilliantly, charges you more, and maybe does some unnecessary work, or a place with a darker, more functional waiting room, but down-to-earth mechanics who do great work at a great price--that would be Decatur Pro Auto. You also won't be pressured into giving them five stars online, which may be a bit unfortunate for them. read more

Allow me to highly recommend this shop. I'm not from Atlanta, and I picked it due to its proximity to where I'm staying. I had replaced my battery-- which I did by myself. Then realized that my alternator was shot. The scheduler couldn't have been nicer and was able to work me in for a repair the next day. They finished the job while I waited. Very courteous, knowledgeable, and the price was very reasonable. They even found a couple of minor issues which I hadn't noticed. (Radiator hose & cap). I'm impressed and so relieved. Steve Yun was very smart mouth with me didn't wanna take my service and this is the second time he has done this I believe he just doesn't want African American service he hung up on me when communicating told me to wait until my car breaks down so they can find what's wrong with it. Then come to find out they just didn't look into it all. Said he was to busy to look at my car when I dropped it off on a Tuesday morning open for their business and they didn't looks at my car until 3 days later and then said it's nothing to do about it we got to busy. The guy hung up on me after asking for a quote she has very rude because after hearing my voice that I was African American he told me to call back with my correct information in a yelling tone .When clearly he could pull up my car after my license number I've called before. I would not trust that my car would be done the right was based on the old reviews looks like I'm right. Horrible customer service, and they had my car for a full month! After having an accident, I brought my car in for repairs. I let them know that I was paying out of pocket and did not have insurance coverage for a rental car, so time was of the essence. From the beginning, I had to constantly call the shop to follow up or get any sort of update. I was told conflicting information and estimated completion dates by three different people ranging from 2 days to two weeks (both of which were far off from the month it actually took). Not once did anyone take the time to call me to update me on progress or let me know there were delays. I was told at least 10 different times during the month my car was there that it would absolutely without a doubt be ready by "X" day, only to find out it wasn't. I don't know much about cars, so the work they did seems fine, but I can't be sure. I do, however, know about customer service, and if you're looking for good customer service and timeliness, this is NOT the place to bring your car! read more

Crooks. The people that were in this location before were always honest and treated customers respectfully. Now that it is "#1 Decatur Pro Auto Repair, Inc", I feel like I'm taken advantage of every time I go there (I had continued to go for oil changes after the old business left, but I won't be going here anymore). Every single time I go for an oil change, I am told that I need hundreds of dollars of repairs. First they said my spark plugs needed to be replaced. I told them that was just done less than 20,000 miles ago when I got a tune up at around 100,000. Apparently, they were just telling me that I needed new ones based on the mileage of my car and the assumption that I hadn't had it tuned up once it hit 100K. This time I went to them because I was having trouble shifting into first and reverse. Their solution? I need a brand new clutch, which will cost anywhere between $850-$1025. The part that pissed me off is that I PUT A BRAND NEW CLUTCH IN THAT CAR about 2.5 years ago, less than 14,000 miles ago (and when I did that, it was at least $100 cheaper than this place quoted me). I kept asking them to explain to me what was wrong with the clutch that was in the car and what I had done to contribute to it needing to be replaced. The couldn't even tell me what was supposedly wrong with the clutch, just that I needed a new one. I took the car elsewhere for a second opinion and the mechanic at the other place checked my clutch/brake fluid and it was really low. He topped it off (for free, BTW) and the car is back to normal. Clutch and shifter work perfectly. I will NEVER go back to this place, ever. I feel that they deliberately try to take advantage of their female customers. Oh, and while I was waiting in the waiting area, a mechanic was talking to the desk clerk about some repair he had done and how he had to make a hole bigger for some part to fit. Then he says, "I make a lot of holes bigger, heh heh." INAPPROPRIATE, especially in front of customers. I am totally disgusted with this place and all the people who work there. read more

Extremely Helpful, Never feel like I'm being over charged. My fiance and I have been coming to Decatur Pro Auto for several years now. It's my go-to repair shop for any problem. Several times when I have had engine light/computer light problems that prevented me from passing emissions they helped me take care of the problem quickly without any expensive repairs. They also do very fast and cheap oil changes, unlike Jiffy Lube that is overpriced and tries to persuade you to get unnecessary services that aren't needed even with the current mileage of my car. I am never made to feel like they know something about the repair that I don't, they explain everything that they plan to do clearly, and provide options if there are any in case the repair is expensive. The business is also family run which really makes it feel welcoming. I would definitely recommend Decatur Pro Auto as your primary repair shop. I've never once been dissatisfied here. read more

These guys were amazing. I feel like I've finally found a great mechanic in metro Atlanta! Prior to them I had nothing but problems... My car started having a few problems shortly after I moved here in July and I've taken it in to a few places and been far less than pleased. One guy said to me, "I can easily find $4,000 worth of stuff to be done to this car and not one of my guys wants to work on it." WTH is that?! My car is a 2008 and definitely not a POS. I asked another guy for a range for a tune-up and he said there was no way to do that. Who can't give a range? I even said $300 - $400? $350 - $450? It also took this guy 6 hours to call me back after I left my car with him and he was unable to get a diagnostic despite the check engine light being on. I was so frustrated! I finally found Decatur Pro Auto on Yelp and called them. I took in the next day and they did the diagnostic in 5 minutes while I was there and found the problem - evap leak (broken gas cap) and cylinder #2 misfire. When I asked the mechanic (Andrew) how much a tune-up would be and even said, "$300 - $400?" He replied, "For this car? That's probably high." :-) Really? Because the other d-bag couldn't even give a range! He told me if I could leave the car (which I could) he'd call shortly with an estimate. He called me 15 minutes later! 15 minutes! Compared to 6 hours for the other Decatur shop who couldn't find a problem. Andrew told me it would be $300 for a full tune-up (spark plugs, hoses, gasket, etc), oil change, gas cap, etc. That sounded like a great deal to me! I picked it up the next afternoon (exactly on time), Andrew showed me the old parts, walked me through exactly what he did and was really kind and informative. A lot of mechanics are reputed for taking advantage of women when it comes to their cars but I didn't feel that way with this shop at all. In fact, I felt very respected and appreciated. I felt like they went well above and beyond to make me feel like they valued me. I felt comfortable and that means a lot when someone is working on your car. While driving home I noticed it's driving better than it has in years. Even the little things I had come to accept were just quirks with the car have stopped. I'm beyond impressed with this shop. After reading the reviews I decided to take my car into Decatur Pro but the work done was poor. I got a price of $200 to get the buffing and scratch removal done on my car. I took the car in on Tuesday and was promised to have the car back by Wednesday at 5pm, but it wasn't completed then. I stated that it was ok to keep the car another day as I did not want the process to be rushed and compromise quality. During the time my car was in the shop, a price difference was never communicated to me prior to the service or during the service. Thursday arrived and the service was still not completed, I again, stated it was ok to take until Friday to complete the buffing and scratch removal. I came in on Friday to pick up my car and was charged a different price. I had to argue to have it at $220 as they wanted to charge me $287. That was a terrible thing to do as the price promised was $200. And if the shop decided to change the price or increase it, they need to tell the customers ahead of time as I wouldn't have taken my car there. Finally, the scratch removal was done poorly, there are still scratches on the panels that were supposed to be removed. And it took them four days, just to do buffing and scratch removal and it was not done well at all. I agreed to have the car in the shop for an additional two days, as I did not want to rush and have the quality compromised and the work was still poor. I also noticed a dent on my trunk that wasn't there prior to taking in the car. Note to others: remember to take pictures of your car prior to bringing it in for any work done. I am unsatisfied with the buffing and scratch removal job, given that I allowed my car to be in the shop an additional two days. Also if a shop wants to charge a certain price, they need to let the customers know ahead of time or prior to service. They cannot quote a price and change it up after service is completed as that is unprofessional. Finally, the buffing and scratch removal job was poorly done. There are still scratches on the panels that were supposed to be buffed out and the polish/ finish was not good at all. read more

Guy was rude, hung up on me after I asked him why they have to see the vehicle when other places (e.g. Classic Collision helped me via email, Convenient Collision helped me via text, Caliber Collision & Gerber Collision via online features) helped me after I sent them my VIN & photos. This place is amazing! I took my 2016 Subaru Legacy there for some body work and I was extremely impressed with their work. I even took it to the dealership to see how much it would be first and I paid half the price here at Decatur Pro. You don't pay for the extra bells and whistles like you do at the other places. I got a new used car recently, but the front brakes feel weird - they pulsated, especially when I brake from 70 to 50 or lower. I figured the rotors were warped, so I had been looking for a good place to get the brakes repaired. A friend of mine recommended this place because she said they were honest people and gave good prices. So I took my car here the next day. Steve got to me immediately after I walked in through the door, got me registered, and asked if I had any other concerns. I said I might as well change the oil since I share a townhouse, and the garage is always full of other cars. Unfortunately, I was right - my front brake rotors were warped, so I had to get those fixed plus new pads. I said OK, since I came to replace the pads anyway, and I knew about the rotor situation. Unfortunately, the company who was responsible to deliver them the new pads were late by over an hour. Luckily for me, the manager, Steve, politely apologized even without my confronting him or asking him what was taking so long (took 2.5-3 hours), and told me they went ahead and did the oil change for free. (Thanks again, Steve!) My car drives smoothly now, no weird noises or pulsating. Tl;dr: Fair prices, good people, great service! Will come again. read more

I needed some body-work done on my car after several small scrapes and one minor collision. I got a few estimates and Decatur Pro Auto Repair gave me the best price and the quickest turn-around time. I had the repair work done the week of Thanksgiving, and was a little concerned that the timeframe was unrealistic given the holiday week, but they got all of the repairs done on schedule and all of the work looked great. Throughout the process the staff were very nice and kept me posted on progress. They also helped with my car rental, which had run into a problem (on the part of the car rental company). The final price was the price they'd quoted. All in all, given as stressful as expensive car repairs are (for me), I was really happy with the whole experience. read more

When we moved here 2 years ago from Indiana, we gave this place a try when we needed some tune up and brake work done. They are very informative of what is going on with our cars and are very fair on the pricing. We've came back here at least 8-9 times and they always do a very good job and provide good quality service. They are willing to go above and beyond to take care of us, including doing walk in oil changes and have even stayed an hour past closing time to replace my brakes and water pump before I went out of town. They have done an outstanding job for me on my 1994 pathfinder. This company painted my door which was keyed, pulled the dents out of my hail damaged hood, pulled the dings out of my door, replaced 4 shocks on the rear lift gate door and glass, replaced two door strikers and adjusted my drivers door. They did this for the price another body shop wanted to paint my keyed door. Randy is the body shop manager. He never pushed me to buy anything and even pointed out some areas he thought I could do my self. I had a tree limb fall on my car and had a few dents - on the roof, trunk and near a side window. I got a few quotes for the repair - two were over $2,000 as they wanted to replace a lot of the parts but Decatur Auto was half that price as they were able to make the repairs without replacing the parts. The overall repair time was exactly what they told me - 4 days and you can't see any signs that there was ever any damage. read more

I took my BMW to these SCHEISTERS for an oil change. I told them I used Castrol and that is what they said they would use. For some reason they smelled fishy so I walked in the garage area to see what they were doing. I caught them as they were about to put in some off-brand crap oil I had never seen before (I am 60). They insisted that it was Castrol, so I called the 800 number on the bottle. The company said they were not affiliated with Castrol. My oil was already drained from the car so I was stuck. I made them call an auto parts store and have Castrol delivered. They put it in and then got mad at me for being in the garage area. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!! They will cheat you and screw up your car. read more

I received good service and the fixed my bumper very quickly. They did a great job repairing my front bumper. I also asked them to change my oil and look at my fuel filter because I thought that it might need to be replaced. They were honest enough to tell me that my filter was fine and they even added air to my tires because they noticed that it was low. The facilities aren't that nice but as long as they continue doing excellent work I'll keep going back. read more

Great mechanics. Initially couldn't get my car to reproduce the problem that caused me to bring it in, and didn't charge for me for the time they spent trying to find the problem. When the problem showed up just as I came to pick up the car, the mechanic immediately came out to witness it, figured it out immediately, and stayed late that day to get it fixed so I could get my car back. Very reasonable prices and honest mechanics. Busy enough that they have no need to "discover" problems that don't exist just to be able to charge you. read more

warning do not take your car to decatur auto repair and body!!!! beware of the owner steve .. this man is a horrible person and should not run a business. i was over charged and falsely told of work that was supposedly completed but in actuality was never done . they refused to honor any work that they claimed initially would be under warranty...so, do not fall for there warranty, it does not exist. i called to inform steve that my car was still not running properly. in fact, it was worse. the dashboard rattled, having not been put back properly, the car ran poorly and the check engine light was on. how does a repair shop enable the car to be returned in that way? decatur auto repair and body refused to honor the warranty, correct overcharges for work not completed and were atrocious to deal with... but they made sure to charge top dollar for faulty work. my experience with steve the owner was that he was very argumentative and rude when trying to discuss the charges and repairs that were done poorly. again! please beware and take your car to a more reputable repair shop. decatur auto repair and body is not the place unless you want to be treated like dirt, unless you want your opinion to not matter. read all the other reviews of people like me who have been taken advantage of and mistreated by decatur auto repair and body. read more

By far, the WORST customer service experience that I have ever had and the nightmare is not over yet. Based upon my experience, Steve Yun (who appears to be the owner) is NOT reliable and his "promises" cannot be believed. Decatur Auto Pro has held my wife's car hostage for nearly 60 days -- and counting! The car was first promised 3 weeks ago -- then week after that -- then this past Wednesday. No wait, it will be Thursday. No sorry -- absolutely positively, "I PROMISE" that it will be ready by 12:00 noon on Saturday -- TODAY (9/10/16). So I show up at 12:00 noon today -- walking 2 miles from my house and it's very hot outside. Guess what? The car is NOT ready. No call from Steve telling me that the car is not ready -- even though he knew that I would arrive at 12:00 noon to pick up my car. After a very unpleasant in-person conversation with Steve, he "PROMISED" that the car would be finished THIS AFTERNOON and to call me every 2 hours this afternoon to provide a status update. I never received a call from Steve. In fact, Steve has never called me - ever. I finally called him at 4:15 pm. No answer. I called 6 times. Finally someone answered. I asked for Steve. Is my car ready? Guess what? NO, it's not ready -- but "I PROMISE" that it will be ready on Tuesday. Are you kidding me!!?? Absolutely ridiculous. My head is about to explode. The nightmare continues. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THESE GUYS!!!!! PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS NOT TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO THESE GUYS! They cannot be trusted. read more
