Dark chocolate (vegan) = not good and blood orange with black sesame = good.
    Peg C.

My hubs and I vacationed in Vancouver a few weeks ago and were looking forward to trying some new gelato places including Motoretta. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I ordered the dark chocolate, one of their vegan flavors, since I cannot digest dairy well. It looked so dark, rich, and lovely being scooped into the cup. But the taste, well, it was cloyingly sweet. So sweet that I could not finish it. I had my hubs taste it and he said, it tastes like frozen chocolate syrup. He was spot on. It's too bad because I've had vegan chocolate gelato and sorbetto at other shops and it's been good, but Motoretta's version just did not hit the mark. Still, I am giving them three stars because the shop was bright, cheery, and clean, and my hubs liked his blood orange sorbetto and black sesame gelato.

My friends and I stumbled upon motoretta gelato while on a girls trip. The line was long, but went extremely quick which was nice. I ordered the Italian custard and WOW. The Italian custard flavor blew me away and was by far the best flavor I tried. Motoretta offered a wide variety of flavors including dairy free and vegan flavors. They didn't have some seating as an option, but all tables were taken when we were there. However, this is the perfect spot when strolling downtown!

    Lychee gelato on cone

Absolutely Delicious. Fast casual gelato spot. Small cozy interior. Friendly fast service. The Gelato was to die for - we both wanted more. I got lychee on a cone and husband got salted caramel in a cup. We both cannot get over that perfect salted caramel flavor. YUM motoretta!!!!!

    Love the little scooter waffle!

Date of visit: July 22, 2025 I visited this gelato shop at least twice during my first visit to Vancouver about a decade ago and could not wait to return and relive the memories of that fantastic trip in the days long before the word "coronavirus" was in our collective vocabulary. Like many things, my memories were better than the new experience, though it may be because the location has changed hands. First, no shakes are available, only dishes or cones, which is disappointing as that is my preferred vehicle for enjoying gelato. In addition, there are large unfriendly signs advising that it's buyer beware when it comes to the gelato as there are no samples available in the summer. I probably should have taken these signs and headed over to one of Bella's locations, but again, the nostalgia pulled me in. Don't get me wrong my fior di latte was quite good (not as good as what I had in Bellagio, Italy, but that was also a shake, so...), and the staff was friendly and efficient, but it would have been nice to try a couple flavors before making a decision.

Randomly spotted and decided to try. They allowed tasting some flavors and we took the pistachio which was nice

Motoretta is the ultimate place for a great scoop of Italian gelato! Their pistachio is top notch, not too sweet, nutty, slightly chewy, it is totally worth the upcharge (I think $1.50?). Note - limited to 2 samples per person.

    Tiramisu and Vanilla

A great stop if you are in the fashion district in Vancouver. The prices are great and the Gelato is tasty! We couldn't decide on a flavor so we got 2. The tiramasu and vanilla both had unique tastes. They had some unique flavors there like black sesame, crema motoretta and akbar mashti. There are only a few seats inside, enough for 4 groups, but we chilled in there for 25 minutes and had a good time.

While visiting Vancouver, this is a great quick stop for a gelato or good coffee if you're in the area! They gave us samples with no rush nor pressure at all. Located in a convenient corner, walkable distance from convention center. Nice chill and friendly atmosphere.

Mango, black sesame, yuzu citrus, matcha
    Lynn N.

The flavors and consistency of the gelato is what makes this place a stand out. Black sesame and mango were our favorites. The black sesame flavor was spot on and not shy about the sesame flavor, which we loved. Mango tastes like you're biting into one. The yuzu citrus was a refreshing option too. They have a good amount of non-dairy options. At times, the line can be long, but the employees move with a sense of urgency. There are tables and chairs inside and outside. It's within walking distance of the harbor and a good place to walk to if staying at the hotels nearby.

Service was adequate, location was good, gelato was less than average (salted caramel was good), prices were exorbitant for portion size.

Cafe style ambiance. Really good gelato with a variety of classic flavors. Service was quick and was open on Boxing Day.

The gelato was very good. I got the medium which was way too much. Get the smallest size. Pistachio was epic.

The gelato was good as well as the service. I would recommend getting it ina cup instead of a cone. The scoop is larger in the cup.

So, really, you are getting ice cream and a show! The concoctions emerged as super smooth, not too sweet, distinct fresh flavorful ice cream. It is a small shop with limited seating, so not likely to be a comfie sit down experience for you given how popular the place is, but it is easy food to take to go and a very nice area for a stroll. We tried the ice cream sandwich, the creme brulee cup, and the s'mores bar. I would say everything was good, but probably not something we would get again. The next time I go if I ever go again I would just get one thing and share it because a bite or two is probably all you need to satisfy your sweet craving.

Most likely because there's no seating. There's also a sign on the counter stating you can only sample 2 flavours during peak hours. There's usually 10 to 12 flavours to choose from; always something unique and interesting. They also have sundaes, ice cream sandwiches and doughnuts on the menu. - Mango raspberry swirl and London fog ($7.00 double) - waffle cone is included and it was better than expected. The ice cream itself tastes a bit denser but still has a creamy satisfying texture. The London fog was fantastic!
