Not ok whatsoever. Thought that since it had awesome reviews left right and center it'd be great to have them look at my Volkswagen. Bad idea... Asked for roger to work on my car since he was the VW master, never did. Some random guy did it. Tried to charge me for power steering fluid I DIDNT ASK FOR. (Refused to pay that part) Then had the audacity to charge me 35$ for "labor" when all they did was slap her on a lift and put 1/2 a quart of tranny fluid in. I was flabbergasted considering the others that said they never were charged. Then since I'm a female obviously, wrote down half my exhaust assembly is missing. No duh idiots! It only can be cut off. Treated me like I was an idiot because I'm a female. However this female actually knows her cars and works on them. Unprofessional, rude, degrading,sexist. WOW! These guys are super legit! I have had my baby VW golf since 04' and never really had any issues with it. There comes a time in a cars age that it needs a little work. I came to Motormania not knowing my cars issue. After discussing it, having them test drive it and thinking it over it turned out to be the Cam Shaft Sensor. WHATS THAT!?! I don't know enough about cars but have had expired with mechanic on an older car in the past. These guys are so patient and wonderful. TLDR; Roger and the guys at Motormania have a customer for life. Because of their expertise and integrity I will never bring my car anywhere else. I had been having problems with my Volkswagen's A/C for a long time and finally decided to get it fixed before the summer heat kicked in. Not knowing any better, I brought it to the VW dealership to have them diagnose the problem. Along with their terrible customer service, the dealership told me that the entire system needed to be replaced and boy, was it expensive. I decided I could at least find a better price and started looking. I called Motormania just looking for a price estimate and spoke to Roger. When I told him I was looking to have the A/C replaced he asked the specifics of my problem along with my car's details. He hypothesized that I, in fact, did not need an entirely new A/C system. I needed one part replaced and it would cost a quarter of what the dealership wanted for the full replacement. I was stunned. Here was a man who could have easily made a lot of money off me by accepting the dealership's word that that's what I needed and called it a day. Instead, he chose to do the right thing and make less money. I brought my car in and within an hour they got back to me with confirmation of the issue. They had it fixed and back to me by the end of the day. I swear the A/C is colder than it was when I first bought it. Roger and the guys at Motormania have a customer for life. I have had the pleasure of cruising in a 74 Super Beetle since 2004. I have lived all over the conutry and have met many volkswagen elves who keep my baby on the road. Since 2008, i trusted Austin VeeDub while in Austin, until this summer. Something changed there, in an awful way. I knew the car needed A LOT of work, but Austin VeeDub gave me an INSANE quote. The estimate was incredible, I could have bought 2 fully restored cars of the same year for that price. They told me i needed parts that dont even exist in my engine, (alternator, for one). On top of that, They told me they would give me $200 to "take it off my hands." When you drive a car like this for a decade you can smell bullshit Sorry I digressed. This is a review of Motormania, not Austin VeeDub. Insteadof being fleeced, I opted to take my car to Roger and Tom at Motormania. Roger gave my car the TLC it needed for 1/3 of the estimate Austin VeeDub quoted. AND everything made sense. Roger was honest and genuine. He was clear about what was wrong and communicated with me as the work was being done. If you've got thorny, unpleasant Volkswagen problems (which with Volkswagens of a certain age will be the only kind you will ever have, ever) Motormania is in the business of providing pain free, comprehensive Volkswagen solutions. I just took my car in to them for an error code that turned up when I got it inspected, and in the two days that they kept my car they: - Ran thorough systems checks before, during, and after the repair process to make certain their work was effective. - Called me at each and every step of the way to keep me up to date on their progress, what they're doing and why they're doing it, and the likely cost. - Fixed my sagging, broken front bumper without prompting from me, because Roger "Couldn't stand to look at it." - Fixed my hyperactive right blinker, without prompting from me. - Rewired my license plate lights that had been smashed out from a rear-end collision a few weeks ago, without prompting from me. In other words, they did exactly what I paid and expected them to do, and then they did a whole, whole lot of other stuff that I didn't even know I needed them to do just because they wanted to get the job done right. By the time all was said and done, it had cost right around what Roger had initially informed me it might, and I was a happy customer. Right until my car runs out of gas as I pulled out of the parking lot. My experience is that Rodger, Tom, and all at Motormania do cost-efficient quality work and treat their customers well. They understand what it means to solve problems scientifically, and they work to find their customers the most cost effective solutions (including aftermarket or junkyard parts when appropriate). They have my highest recommendation. I went to them believing that my 2004 VW needed an expensive new turbo. They were just as excited as I was when it seemed that a leaking mass air flow sensor pipe might fix the problem. When that turned out to be only one of multiple problems, they worked diligently and efficiently to find the root cause (an obscure engine timing problem) and fix it. This is kind of a long detailed review, but it is important to tell the whole story of what happened to my car, or the review does not give Roger, his crew or Motormania the due credit they deserve for SAVING MY CAR, and my bank account, but mostly it is important to YOU who is reading this review, if you are wondering if you want Motormania to work on your car. So the Short answer if you want to skip the details of my review is: YES... YES... YES... they are 10000% THE BEST... PERIOD!!!!! In august of 2012, I purchased a seemly perfect and very nice 2006 VW Beetle TDI. This was a beautiful and perfect car for my wants and needs, so I bought this car because it was conveyed to me to be in perfect condition, but to my surprise this wasn't the case at all, and after owning it only a few days, I figured out that I had been misled a lot, and all the sudden I had a large purchase that was quickly becoming a big mistake because I had to jump it off every day because the battery went dead all the time, and I could not depend on it at all, so it was all but worthless to me, and of course I had no recourse to get my money back. ((( My car was worthless for 3+ months and why I am just posting this review 12/27/12... So this was a very serious problem...))) So it was obvious it had an electrical problem, that at first (and not by Morormania) lead me to getting a new alternator, and then a new battery, at @ $800.00, but the battery draw remained, so I got a new radio, as blogs had said is a possible problem in these cars, but that was not the problem either, and then after many personal hours of checking this and checking that, to no avail, and the deeper I got into this car the more it became obvious to me I was in deep trouble, because I did not intend to buy, and could not afford a fixer upper, as I bought this car to use and not leave in my driveway sucking all the money I had out of my pocket and still having this very serious problem. Anyway, after calling the VW dealer and the hourly rate of that, (not belittling them at all) but it was obvious to me I was not going to be able to afford the repair costs to have it properly diagnosed and fixed, so here I was with no car, and no more money to "waste" on it as an experiment of how many things I can replace before the problem is found and fixed, or not found as what it looked like was going to be the case. I could not sell this car and do to someone else what was done to me, and sell this defective car with a fully charged battery, just to hide the problem long enough to get the money, so I was stuck with it. well the only thing I could do was to find someone else to help me fix it, so I Googled V W Repairs in Austin, and Motormania came up and I read their many good reviews and called and talked to Roger, more than once, and I explained the (long version) of the problems I was having, and him trying to help me help myself first, he gave me a few things to test on my own, and after doing this to no avail, I decided to just take it in to him TO FIX IT and I immediately felt comfortable and trusted him. As it turned out this ended up being a very unusual and strange and almost impossible to find problem that needed a Rocket Scientist, brain surgeon and Master V W Mechanics, with all the right tools for the job to trace down this very elusive wire, and most of all it took an honest man, as he could have charged many times over what he charged me. So as it turned out it was a great decision to take it to Roger at Motormania because they fixed my car, and he did not rob me in the process, and now I have the car I thought I was getting in the first place and I love it. My sister's 2007 Touareg had a drivetrain problem, prompting a google search for a good VW repair shop in Austin. Motormania had the highest ratings in the area, at the time over 100 4-5 star reviews (where did those go Yelp?). Roger picked up my call, within 5 minutes he correctly diagnosed the problem with one the greatest mechanic lines ever ("Does it sound like there is a midget is under your car banging on the floorboard when you accelerate?) and quoted me a very reasonable quote for parts and labor - told me it could be done the next day. Dropped the Touareg off in the evening, received a call mid morning the next day - DONE. The car was clean and the problem was solved. As an added bonus, the part ended up being cheaper than quoted (which Roger informed us of when he presented a bill lower than we had expected). We couldn't have asked for a better experience... except they went a step beyond and checked out our VW Golf, test drive - fluids - tire pressure, for no extra charge (we had just finished a long distance, heavy haul and wanted to make sure we hadn't damaged anything). When I decided to make Austin my permanent home 3 weeks ago, I needed to register my 1999 VW Jetta. That was a potentially stressful situation because I couldn't pass Inspection with the Jetta's engine light that had been popping on for the past 3 years (During those 3 years, I took it to a VW dealership and 2 different mechanics in CT who collectively collected over $3,000 for engine light repairs that didn't last longer than a couple of days after I'd pass inspection). and I didn't know any mechanics in Austin. so I asked around and was told that the owner (Roger Funnell) of a place in North Austin (Motormania) was not only a VW expert, he actually cared about doing the best work he could at the best price he could. well I'm happy to report (or review, smiling) that instead of stress, I experienced the first positive, reasonably priced and effective engine light repair I have ever received (2 weeks after passing inspection, the light is still off and my Jetta is actually running more effortlessly). and Not only did Roger and crew correct the engine light issue (at a third of the usual price), they did what it took to complete the repair by 2:30 the next day to spare me the additional cost of another rental car day. plus They slipped in a repair to the front passenger door (someone wiped out the front of my Jetta when parked at a store one day and the door never completely opened after that repair) without charging me or even telling me...I didn't discover that repair until I opened that door effortlessly for the first time in 5 years a week ago. so Roger and crew, if y'all ever see this review: Thank y'all for not taking advantage of me monetarily. In short, the guys at Motormania are amazing: they are honest, they do great work, and you'd be crazy not to have them working on your VW. I've known Roger and Tom for almost twenty years now. My family originally learned of them via a family friend when looking for someone to "freshen up" my mom's 1970 Beetle, a car which she bought new in college and which either she and my dad had driven daily for twenty-something years. That car was a shiney and ran as good as the day it left the showroom floor when they were done with it, and continued to be driven daily for years, until it was finally destroyed in an accident. I bought the first of my VWs in high school, 1984 Scirroco, and they did all the repairs and maintenance work on that vehicle, and have continued to work on all of my VWs since (the only make I've owned): a 1967 Beatle, a 1966 Beatle, a 1988 Jetta GLI, a 1998 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition, and a 2003 Jetta GLI. My wife and I just bought a 2008 Rabbit, which they will (of course) be seeing soon for its first oil change! It isn't competely fair to say they've done all the work on my vehicles, because I am lucky enough to have worked at Motormania for three years just after graduating from high school. So, I've done some of the work myself, but only because of the tutelage provided by Roger and Tom at Motormania. I say that I was lucky to have worked there because they not only taught me the basics of auto repair, they proved to be excellent role models for how to live life, treat people, and run a business. My 2010 VW GTI's timing chain slipped during a morning start. After reading all the reviews for local mechanics and not wanting to take it to the dealer I decided to take it to Motormainia. The first impression was that this is a shop that focuses on fixing your car and not trying to impress you with fu-fu coffee. Roger told me straight, the problem wouldn't be cheap or quick, but I respected that. I've had mecahics lead me on before to keep me there. Unfortunately the whole head had to be redone due to bent valves etc. They completed the work in little over a week and she runs great! Now I have almost a new car. The amount they saved me over the dealership was considerable. Word to the wise, have your timing chain checked at 100k miles. This will save you from having a lot of work, but if you need work done I would take it to Roger and his guys. read more

I've been here a couple time and realized I had never written a review, so here we go! Motormania is great! Roger is always very straight forward with prices and options and my wife and I always feel like we're getting quality service. The only issue I have with them is location. We have to drive from MoPac and Davis out to see them, but I can't criticize them for that. And they're great. I mentioned that, right? The last time we were in my wife left her phone in our VW and Roger kept in the office until the car was finished, which was the next day by the way. I just bought an Audi allroad with 90K miles with a dubious maintenance history. I took it to Motormania to have them diagnose any potential problems. They fixed what needed to be fixed. Explained issues that may be coming down the road. And they did it all quickly and professionally. The repair bill was a little higher than I thought it would be, but much cheaper than the Audi dealership would have charged.
