I confess that I have a somewhat obsessive relationship with my two Honda Preludes. I love them. I take very good care of them. I ask a mechanic a lot of questions and I make sure that what is done to them is appropriate. Kevin at Hondacure puts my mind at rest. These guys seem to genuinely like and appreciate Hondas and I think they even possibly understand my addiction. They own Preludes themselves and you gotta love that. These cars are just a bit finicky and I don't trust them to just anyone. My cars have been seeing them for at least three years and I have very happy with the results. I found them when my 2001 needed a timing belt and I was shopping around for a good Honda specialist because my previous experiences in Austin were not good. I wasn't happy with the dealership and another Honda place that shall remain nameless who ripped me off. (Initials are RS). Kevin at Hondacure, however, said all the right things and then quoted me a price substantially less than the dealership. They did a great job on the timing belt and everything that goes with that and I have kept going back with no regrets. They also fixed up my ailing '90 Si, that I have owned since about 1994 and even cleaned my engine last time I was there and ran it through the car wash. It runs like a top now. I love that car more than chocolate. So -- if you have a Honda, or any other import for that matter ( I think they also work on a lot of Toyotas and Mazdas), go to Hondacure. This place is a total rip-off, stay away from this place! They are not transparent about the total cost and will charge you hundreds of dollars for just diagnosing a simple problem. They charged me $280 to find a vibration issue in my Honda. On top of this, these guys (Kevin and his crew) don't commit to a finish time and don't give you any updates. They are also unreachable over the phone (text only). Their part costs and repair costs are outrageous. It's much cheaper to get the repairs done elsewhere. I also had to incur additional Uber costs. I went to this place due to a referral, which was a big mistake. I'm surprised that people haven't reported them to BBB. They are definitely not trustworthy. read more

**Update 11/13/2020** In the end, ditched the dealership and took my Fit to Hondacure. They re-diagnosed the problem and found a less expensive solution. When all was said and done, I was able to get that repair done plus two new tires, all for less than the dealership was going to charge me *just* for the initial repair! Kevin was so good about explaining things and keeping in touch. Felt like they really took the time to consider what was best. 11/6/2020: Had a (to me) bizarre repair situation, and was questioning a quote from the dealership. Kevin very kindly took the time to go over the situation and options with me on the phone and via text. In the end, through no fault of Kevin's, I ended up going another direction. Had been in Austin for a few months & was due for service after moving from Los Angeles. My family has always gone to Honda specialists, so when I saw Hondacure I gave it a try. Well, definitely do NOT have my new mechanic. This was by far the worst service I've ever received at any kind of business. Kevin seems like a nice guy but is very disorganized. Now for the details. Was able to confirm appointment details via text. I needed just regular service & a headlight was out. I knew things weren't going to be good when I came in first thing on a weekday & the tech didn't see me on the schedule, nor did they give me a quote on basic repairs & a headlight! Concerned, I left my car for the day. Come 4:30PM that day I hadn't heard anything so I texted Kevin who had no idea who I was at first. He had gotten a new phone since we last talked, which was understandable, but then told me "My tech looked over it but we didn't do any repairs." SERIOUSLY?!? You have my car for a whole day, I had an appointment, & ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has been done!! I was pissed but not much I could do so I sulked & left it another day. 4:30PM the next day rolls around & still no word from Kevin, so I had to reach out about the status of my repairs again, to which I received a "yeah my tech looked over it, & you need a new headlight." NO S___ Sherlock!!! That's why I took it in! So now here we are 2 full days in & he hasn't done anything. I demanded my car be ready by 5:30 or I was taking it-couldn't go another day without it. Magically they have my car ready a few minutes after I get there. So they did an hour of work but took 2 days to do it. I was suspicious but the car rolled out of there fine. I got a measly $25 or so off the bill when I complained. Price was still much higher than my mechanic back in LA. 1.5 months later my power steering starts whining. I check the fluid level & it is seriously low. So either they never flushed it like they said they would or I have a leak. Turns out I did have a leak, but either way they didn't do their jobs properly or they would've caught that since you don't lose that much fluid with such a small leak in a short amount of time. Furious, I called Kevin, but he didn't want to deal with me & just offered to refund the difference. I will say that I appreciated getting $75 back from him promptly. Now here I am 4 months later in another shop for an avoidable problem on an '02 Accord that's on it's last legs anyway. Was hoping Hondacure would be my last service before getting a new car but their incompetence has cost me hundreds of $$. read more

Kevin is amazing beyond words! Always reliable and honest. I had gone to another place before, which was going to charge me over $1300 because of leaking steering fluid and then I went to Kevin who looked at my car and told me it had electric steering and couldn't leak. The part in question had some gunk on it but was otherwise fine. Have been going to Kevin for a year and a half now and he always does great work. He can get you in with zero notice as well. I've brought my car in when it got a flat and had to be towed, when the battery needed replacing, etc. Always great service. read more

I would not recommend this place to save my life. Let me start of the beginning. 1. I take the car there for a misfiring issue and drop the car off on a Thursday and I will be paying for an hour of diagnostic time. 2. Come Tuesday of the following week I am told that they think it is a valve cover gasket that is leaking and causing an issue with the spark plugs. While I am hesitant to believe this is the issue for the misfire due to the fact that oil does not conduct electricity, I figured maybe in their "vast" Honda knowledge that they maybe knew something that I didnt. Later that day I call back to the shop to make sure the vehicle is up and running and am told that the issue has not been corrected and it is still misfiring (YAAAAAAY, I get to pay for a valve cover gasket and tube seals I didnt need!!!!) and they they will need ANOTHER hour of labor time to diagnose the issue. I spoke to Kevin directly regarding this issue and he informed me that he would be calling me the following morning. 3. Wednesday comes and goes with no phone call from ANYONE at the shop. 4. Thursday rolls around and (Jacob I believe) calls me and tells me that they are going to need another hour of labor time to diagnose the same issue I have already paid them to diagnose. I make him aware that I KNOW they need another hour of time to diagnose the issue as that is what Kevin told me on Tuesday night, meaning my vehicle sat at their shop ALL DAY WEDNESDAY and had ZERO work done on it. This is after the initial time frame of Tuesday was given to me of expected vehicle return date. 5. Friday rolls around and Jacob calls me again and tells me that it is the fuel injector on cylinder 3 causing me all this trouble. We discuss the issue and I go ahead and give him the go ahead to get the car fixed up. At this point he tells me that the car will be good to go FINALLY and I can pick up the car at the end of the day. 6. I call back to the shop at the end of the day on Friday to see when I can come by and pick up my car and find out it has now mysteriously developed a coolant leak now and will need to be kept until Monday to allow them to correct this new issue. 7. Monday rolls around and I talk to Jacob again and speak to him about getting the car. I also voice my dissatisfaction regarding the entire ordeal to which he is very nice and sympathetic to my issue. I ask him to speak to Kevin regarding discounting the bill, especially considering I paid for an hour of labor that was not needed, as well as a repair that was unnecessary. Well lo and behold I come to pay my bill and the discount applied was very very nominal (maybe 20.00) and to me felt like a very dismissive way to get me out of their hair. 8. I leave the shop on Friday with my car and notice a little fuel smell. I disregard it hoping it is just a little bit of fuel sitting on the engine and it will clear up. Well come to find out the o rings on the fuel injectors that were pulled out during diagnosis were RE USED and got pinched upon install thus creating a pretty bad fuel leak. There is NO WAY that the fuel smell was not noticed during the post install test drive that SHOULD HAVE happened. 9. I ended up getting a text from Kevin saying he was told that I was unhappy about my service and he would like to speak to me about it. To me at this point it is far too late for talking to fix this situation. I end up informing him via text that the fuel injector is leaking and he asks me if I would like to have him come out to my place or he can have the vehicle towed in. Sorry to tell ya Kevin, I do not have all the time in the world to get my vehicle back to your shop when repairs cannot be completed properly in the first time. For these issues I will NEVER return to this shop and I hope to save some of yall the same headache. The ONLY plus side to this entire ordeal was dealing with Jacob as he seemed to try his best throughout the entire process to reach a satisfactory outcome. read more

What you need to know: I do not give out 5 stars lightly. Hell, I don't even take the time to write anything unless I really, really feel compelled to. And in the case of Hondacure, I do. I banged up my car and started calling around to scrapyards and auto repair places looking for parts. Luckily for me, I called Hondacure. Kevin answered and gave me some good advice, and since he could probably tell that I didn't know what the hell I was doing, offered to take a look at no charge. Cool. I drive down there, and immediately feel laid back and welcome. This is really saying something, since the whole debacle had me stressed out and worried like nobody's business. These guys were super friendly. I was informed that they wouldn't do any repairs like that at their shop, and that my car was way more messed up than I thought. Turns out it wasn't just a busted headlight. For some unknown reason my brake lights weren't working and the body damage was more than I should hope to piece together from a salvage yard. Jokes were made about the amounts of duct tape used to hold the bumper in place. We laughed and I realized I really wasn't feeling all that terrible about the whole situation. It really was pretty comical! He gave me a couple of great recommendations (and I was infinitely pleased with the one that he recommended the highest, see Jeff's Auto Body) and sent me on my way with his two adorable lil' pups wagging their tails goodbye. Overall, it was a refreshing change of neighborhood friendliness, honesty, and a good-natured desire to help a lady out. These guys are golden. read more

I brought my 2007 Honda CRV in with a broken AC and broken lock mechanism. I know nothing about cars and am always worried that people will take advantage of that. Hondacure took my car in on a Friday morning and had it back on the next day, only charging me for the locks after fixing the AC for no charge. The AC was just me being dumb, but any other car place probably would have taken advantage of my ignorance. The lock replacement was reasonably priced and super speedy. If you have a Japanese car and need it fixed, these are the guys for you. Incredibly helpful, professional, and fast. Earlier today I had the greatest mechanic/auto body shop experience I've ever had, and it was with Kevin and Hondacure. I just purchased a used Honda CR-V and I had 24 hours to send it back and Kevin was able to schedule me in while I was dealing with a time crunch. He did a comprehensive buyers evaluation on the car at a seriously reasonable price and gave me a fair and unbiased assessment on the car that a regular Honda dealer wouldn't have. II voiced all my concerns to him and he gave me great advice about the quality car I'm dealing with and even looked at my warranty contract without me even asking to see if it'd cover some of the historical issues CR-Vs deal with like the A/C system. In an industry full of shady people and sheisters, Kevin is the most real and authentic guy I've ever met in the field and I'd gladly pay double for the services he carried out for me. Thanks to previous reviews, I ended up stopping by here this morning to get an oil change and a minor repair done. I showed up shortly after opening and was out about an hour later for a lot less than I expected. Kevin was more than helpful in explaining what needed to be done to repair the part on my car, and his team did it quickly and with a smile. Like, seriously quickly. I was expecting to be in there for a few hours. He even offered me some egg rolls while I waited (at 9am.... it's not quite egg roll time yet.) When I complaint about my oil leak to another shop where they did my oil change. The manager told me that the main seal between the engine and the transmission is worn out. The cost of repair is $1000. I decide to have a second opinion at Hondacure and it turns out to be $150 on a oil pan gasket replacement instead. I then brought my truck for brake repair because my daughter told me there was metal scratching noise. Kevin inspect it and clean it up. He told me there are 50% of pad left and no need to replace it right now. He did found my shock is gone and need to be replaced. They called around and found a shop that will warranty my shock so I don't have to pay for the part. They send me to that shop for replacement because it save me money. I called the dealership and told them what I needed done and asked for a quote, and they wouldn't even tell me until I brought it in (so they could charge me for something else too, I'm sure). My only problem with Honda-Acura Automotive is that the owner is not good at calling back. I had to keep following up with him after he said he'd call me about things. I'm used to this from car shops though, so it was fine. He fixed my problem in a couple hours and I was on my way with the airbag sensor properly off. read more

They told me $1800.00 and that I needed to replace the complete AC system, so I googled Honda Mechanics Austin, Texas and Hondacure popped up and I read the reviews and they all were great. I had a very pleasant experience using Hondacure. Kevin was friendly when I called on the phone, and it was really helpful that I could further communicate with him via text. I went for general maintenance and low tire pressure of my Honda. It took under an hour, with free wifi in the waiting room, and they offered me a cold beverage, a very nice touch! I had a phenomenal experience today at Hondacure. I was anxious about going to any mechanic because I worry that I will get ripped off, charged unnecessarily or lied to. I worry that I will be told that things that are broken are not and that things need to be done that don't. I did some research yesterday and Googled "Honda/Acura Specialist" and this came up. Because I have an Acura, I really wanted someone who knew what he is doing. Kevin Casey, the owner is fantastic. He is honest, tries to get you out the door with a fixed car and charge as little as possible and has a great sense of humor. I left today happy with what I had spent, smiling and excited that I had found a great new mechanic. Update: Alright Kevjn, do you really want to get into this? I was gonna let it go, but you asked for it. How about the fact that you had my vehicle for an entire day and didn't do ANY work on it, which is why I had to keep your stupid loaner POS overnight in the first place? Meanwhile you lied and said you were working on my car, but when I came back that afternoon it was in exactly the same spot as I left it, and you guys had no feedback on what had been done? This was after I waited nearly a week for an appointment to even get my car in in the first place. Then after the 2nd full day with my car, you still had basically done nothing? Not to mention having your 2 pit bulls basically charge me as I walk in, and even though the male was a lover, that female clearly doesn't have any business being in a public space where she could maul someone. I happen to love dogs, but what if I was a kid who wondered in, or someone who had been attacked before? There is simply no reason for an honest business to have 2 attack dogs around at all times. Yes, you reached out to me after you saw this review, but your lack of service, lack of professionalism and utter disregard for my time were too much for me to care to get back to you. Instead of making stuff up about how irritated I was - although I had plenty of reason to be - how about you just fix what is wrong with your business, and thank me for making your business better? I will never go back to this place nor would I recommend them to anyone. I'm not sure if they are crooked or if they just really don't know what they're doing, but something is seriously wrong here. Two years ago we had to have our entire air conditioning system replaced in our 2006 Honda Civic, it cost almost $3k. After that it never worked super well, but was cooler than it had been. One year later, about 5 days after the warranty was up, the air went out again and began blowing warm air. Obviously, I was upset by this and in a fairness I did call them and they offered to take a look. The car was there for 2 days before they even checked it out. Once they did they called me and told me that the charge was not balanced, they had no idea how this could have happened and kept asking me if I had taken it to another place after having gone to them, because there was 'no way they had done this'. Other than one oil change, I never had this car worked on at all during that year and by the fifth time the guy asked me it honestly got a little insulting. Well, supposedly they fixed the charge issue and when I got it back the air was working better, though certainly not well. Lo and behold, it will be one year from then in a few weeks and the air barely works again. If I've driven around for at least 20 minutes or so and have the 'max air' turned on and blast the air it will sort of cool a little...But is it crazy to think that paying 3k for a new system should mean that it would last over 2 yrs? I don't think that's asking all that much. Once again, no one else has touched this air conditioning system and the only thing that we have done to this car this past year was get new tires and an oil change. On top of all of this, both times they checked the rest of the car out, which would normally be a good thing, but we felt really pressured by them to fix things that weren't necessary. The first time around we went for it, second time around we were more cautious. They recommended work and parts for one of the back wheels, when we took it to another place they said we just needed new tires. It's been totally fine since, the tires were just bald. Hondacure even recommended an oil change to me when I gotten one 3 weeks before...super weird, but I think they just try to think of anything and everything they could make money on...Definitely not the kind of mechanic you want working on your car. I never ever post bad reviews, in general they are usually just angsty and rude, but in this case there's a lot of money at stake and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this. I have a 2008 Acura MDX and last night when my wife was loading the kids in the back something happened with the door and the door lock actuator got stuck in the down position so she couldn't close the door. When I got home I tinkered with it and in my haste I did the same thing for the front passenger door - now we have two doors that won't close! This morning I called two local dealerships and both were too busy to look at it today. They cost me an extra $250 and months of headache. I came in for a popping noise on my Honda Odyssey. They replaced the front drive axle for about $225. When I went to pick it up, it was still popping. Did they even test drive it? I came back the next day; they were nice,and looked at it again, then told me they couldn't figure out the root cause. They said they were ordering some diagnostic tools so they can hook up to the different suspension parts to help determine the root cause. It would be in a few weeks, and that they'd have to charge me $50 to use the new equipment. That doesn't sound right; they charged me to do a job, couldn't do it, then were going to charge me more to diagnose the problem? I went to another shop and gave them the summary. They said if somebody already did the axle, then it's possibly something else, but told me it's very likely it's the axle and that i should take it back to Hondacure. No way am I pouring good money after bad. After eliminating all other options (struts, stabilizer arm, ball joints, etc...), they recommended "re-replacing" the axle that Hondacure put in. Sure enough, that was the problem. It was either Hondacure put in wrong, or bought a defective part. Either way, they did it wrong. Hondacure are nice enough people, had I taken my car elsewhere, the problem would have been solved the first time without my wife complaining about the popping noise "after" Hondacure supposedly "fixed" it. In this case, their incompentence cost me time, money, and aggravation. read more

The pricing is so fair, they let you know everything going on before any work is done, they even dropped me off and picked me up from work, and when the alignment was rescheduled for the next morning, they gave me a loaner car for the night! I had Hondacure replace the clutch in my wife's manual transmission 2005 Civic Hybrid. While cheap on gas, the Civic Hybrid seems more expensive on just about every other part, and the clutch is no exception. I called all of the dealers in my area for price quotes. The cheapest was $1675. I called several of the independents, including Hondacure. All of them said they had never replaced a clutch on the Hybrid before. Hondacure was nearly $500 less than the dealer and the only one that did any research on the Hybrid clutch replacement. There's more labor and it has a different clutch than the standard Civic. So it was pretty easy choice: Hondacure. It took a bit longer than I hoped. I dropped the car off on Friday morning and got it back on Tuesday morning. The weekend sure added to the wait. But then, they said they had never done this before. Of course, the "hybridness" was the reason for the delay -- a wrong part and a big unknown with the IME battery. I really can't complain too much. Kevin loaned me his car, so I had something to drive. So the wait was more about the unknown. The loaner was (un)fortunately a Prelude VTEC. With a sport clutch. Can you get any different from a Civic Hybrid? After nearly a month, my wife has forgotten the Prelude. We both think the new clutch works great. She's even up nearly 1.5 MPG in her average mileage after 100000+ miles on the original clutch. Now, if I can just block any information about the new Hybrid CRZ sport coupe, we might be able to recoup this investment. Especially red ones :-) I went back later to have them change a headlight bulb. It's at worst a 2 step process, but I still couldn't figure out. We were originally referred to Hondacure by the owner of a VW repair place. We had some pesky problems with our two Hondas and were looking for an alternative to the dealership. We have been taking our 96 and 99 Accords to Hondacure for more than two years now. Kevin saw us through a very strange recalled part issue. Supposedly the dealer had already fixed it. (and maybe the part was replaced by the dealer and they installed a defective part...we'll never know) Kevin knew that the only thing to do was to replace that recalled/"replaced" part, and he did, and we haven't had that problem again. And, the original problem was very scary--the car was turning itself off at low speeds--randomly!! His staff works through a problem as long as it takes to diagnose the problem. He never suggests that something will fix your car unless it he knows it will work. And, he charges reasonable rates for both parts and service. This summer, when the a/c went out in the 99 Accord, I was sure it was a $600+ repair. I was sick with worry about breaking the budget! I could not believe that the a/c was fixed for just around $120!!! And, he could have charged me $600-$1000 and I wouldn't have known the difference. Hondacure is great! read more

He will work with you to get parts at prices you can afford, and he will be open with you every step of the way. I found this shop via Yelp and I'm really glad I did. Kevin and his team found the problem with my Accord and repaired it in record time. I found my "go to guy" when it comes to maintaining my Honda.
