WOW!!! An honest mechanic! We took my wife's 2015 Mini in for a loud clunk when going over bumps. We got an itemized estimate texted to us for $2292.00. I called with some questions and Bill right away said that the majority of that estimate is not critical and can be postponed.. What other mechanic would have done that. The final amount was $714. I've had my 1995 E36 M3 sitting for five years shortly after purchasing it from the previous owner, who had neglected it almost as much as I had. After a few unsuccessful attempts of my own to get it back on the road, I decided to call it quits and search for a mechanic. That's when I stumbled upon Motorspeed West, and I was thrilled to learn that the owners were also E36 M3 owners and enthusiasts. Since I wouldn't be able to drop off my car during the week, and it was the holiday season, he told me I could drop it off whenever it was convenient for me. They even have a dropbox for key drop-offs and information forms, which made the process super easy. I had the car towed there on a Sunday, and by the next day, I received a text from Anthony with a link to the inspection quote. The platform was user-friendly, allowing me to easily approve or decline any necessary work without all the back-and-forth phone calls. Of course, I still made a phone call so I could ask for the braided brake and clutch lines I had in the trunk installed, as they were flushing out my brake fluid. After two weeks of patiently waiting for parts, service, diagnostics, and minor maintenance, I received the good news that my car was ready. I have had only one issue with them where I had to torque the wheels down my self when I received the car back doing my own suspension work. What an amazing spot specializes in BMW! I had bookmarked this place after recommendation from a co worker when my X5 was under warranty. They did an incredible job for the 40K mile service for my X5! I was hoping that they would charge me in unnecessary stuff claiming it's required for the car like they do at the dealership. But no, they are genuine and true to their customers. Ken, the technician who worked on my car, was very thorough in explaining what all were performed on my car. I had an issue with wheel alignment after a steering column replacement at the dealership last year, which I claimed under warranty. I had to replace all 4 tires this year after I found the front tire was wearing out completely and had almost been bald! I asked Ken to specifically look into that. He explained me how he found there was nothing wrong and advised me to drive couple of thousand miles and take to America's tire from where I had go those tires and get it checked. Then can come back for any alignment. Ken also advised me to buy a tire repair kit and showed from where to buy it for best price after learning that I moved off of Tun flat tires. Everything was great. I highly recommend this service center for your BMW after you are out of warranty. read more

What also isn't missing is their passion for finely engineered machinery as you discuss your repair needs. I have been coming here for the last 2 years and even though it is not exactly convenient, I am willing to make the investment to make that long drive so I know any maintenance or issues will be resolved with no doubt in my mind. What is worse than a pesky auto repair? Arguably a repair that was not completed thoroughly, or worse, completed improperly. With Motorspeed West, that is not part of the equation for me. Lots of pictures of 60's - 90's BMWs and Mercedes but when I called to ask about replacing the diff cover on my 1990 BMW E30 325i (the one on my car has a stripped drain plug when I bought it), they said they couldn't take the job since I was providing my own part. They had to check with their "distributor" and of course you're not going to find a new diff cover for a 30+ year old car. They should have at least offered the chance to drop by the shop so they can take a look and make sure I have the right part (I do). Or this was their polite way to decline a small job. read more

Since I purchased my BMW 3 series a few years ago I have loyally taken my car only here. After having been so badly mistreated at Santa Clara BMW on two different occasions, both leading to attempts to up charge services and repairs at this dealership. Switched over to Fremont BMW where I was treated nicer but yet again dealing with dealership pricing for things that where not a major priority or cosmetic things and that where not immediately necessary that they tried to make into my car would catch on fire, not kidding. I was speaking with a coworker on lunch complaining about how I was being mistreated at the BMW car dealerships like some dummy, when I am not treated this way at San Jose BMW where I take in my motorcycle, and how I was on the hunt for a local BMW mechanic but not finding anything good in search results. My coworker gave me a referral to this place. So that's my little back story. Finding Motorspeed West and Bill has been a life saver! Bill is incredibly courtesy, honest and clearly explanatory regarding any issues related to my vehicle. Plain and simple he immediately earned my trust with his transparency and taking the time to tell me things I wanted to better understand about my car. Love this shop so much! Been a client for a decade. Could not afford to keep a BMW without their reasonable shop rates, encyclopedic knowledge of these cars, honesty & decency. These are really nice people who want to do the right thing. The down side is that on days when the receptionist is out, no one will call you when your car is ready, so, it may be ready for three hours and, if you didn't phone in to check, you would not know to go pick it up. UPDATE: Maybe third times the charm but thank you so much to Bill and Motorspeed West for making things right and servicing my car free of charge. Despite the complications I originally experienced, their customer service was more than generous and accommodating, allowing me to get my car fixed as soon as possible. Dealing with angry customers all day isn't fun but shout out to these guys for staying so positive and working fast and efficiently to satisfy their customers. (1 star) This will be my third visit to this shop this month alone. I drive an average of 10 miles a day, usually even less than that. I've paid $1500 for them to "fix" my car but I still get to see them for a third time today to spend even more! :) honestly so disappointing to see what seemed like nice and honest people take advantage of a young college student and neglect her safety by not providing reliable service on the car. read more

I think this is a great place to visit for your BMW. I have a 2011 BMW with check engine light on and service due warning light on. I first visited the dealer at Steven Creek, they quoted me more than $400 for reseting the service warning light and diagnosing the engine light on. I agreed and left my car there in the morning at 8am. After 5pm, I visited the dealer and found nobody was working on my car. I immediately got my car back and was lucky enough to go to Motorspeed without extra spending at the dealership. I have some oil leakage for VCG and OFHG. The price is fair compared to other places. The service is efficient. In one day, I get my VCG and OFHG fixed, ignition coil replaced, brake fluid flushed, AC checked and refrigerant charged, warning light reset, also they give 2-year warranty. I can't do full comparison to other independent repair shops. But this is a good place to visit. Avoid dealership if you are out of warranty. These shops can still do a good job read more

Been taking my car here for the past 2 years ever since my friend recommended to me. If you are looking for people who know BMWs inside out, this is the place to go. Everyone there has a very high understanding of the cars they repair and upgrade and if always very helpful when asking them questions. They take the time to explain the details, which help a lot. They even gave me a free car key battery because they found my key battery is dead. Their price and speed of service is also great, which is why I only come here now. They do quality work and know what they are do. They fixed the overheating issue with my 1981 BMW 320i. They definitely know their stuff, ken even had a part for my car on hand. My only complaint. Poor communication. I had to call multiple time in the 3 days they had my car and never received any updates without having to call near closing for any updates. The 2nd day they had my car the lady who answer the phone. Tammy I think? She was slightly rude. She couldn't find me in the system and then began to explain that she wasn't there the day before so she didn't know who's car was there. I honesty don't need an explanation I just need to know when my car will be done because I have work so I wanted to know if I should except to pick up my car that day or not so I could arrange a ride. She told me she would call me in 1 hour with a update. She never did. I had to call and she didn't have a update and told me they would take care of my "baby". I never received a estimate and they did all work without my approval. I'm happy to do anything my car needs to run well but only ask to relay information better. This review's way over due. My 2009 335i stopped accelerating while I was driving on the freeway on the way to work during El Niño (adding some heavy rainstorm in case rolling on a freeway wasn't scary enough). I found out about this place through my coworker, who took her Mini here. I overheard her calling over 10 auto shops for quotes a few weeks before, so I believed her when she said Motorspeed West gave her the best quote. They were able to diagnose the problem within minutes after giving them the details of my car and my terrifying experience earlier. Turns out I needed a new water pump and they guessed right. Impressive. I left my car there overnight and got it the next day. Although it was sucky to be stuck on the side of a freeway, realizing you don't have AAA emergency service for a tow, calling 911 and waiting patiently for CHP to rescue you while you pray that passing cars don't hit you - I'm glad there was a happy ending to this.
