Brought my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica van for a check-engine light where I already knew the code (fuel sensor issue). Steve took up the work without the fuss of first charging for diagnostics etc. Ordered the part from the dealer and installed it as soon as it arrived. He had told me he may charge me extra if the wiring was complicated, but he didn't end up charging it. After the initial work, the check engine light came back on with a slightly different code and I had to take the car back. Steve stood by his work and fixed the wiring without any extra charge (Chrysler had changed the wiring on the fuel sensor and issued a technical bulletin about it, so it was not a mess up the first time around). Nice staff and they do good work. I brought my 61' Chevy Apache here. They resolved all issues I was having with my truck. I had a gnarly engine shake, transmission needed some tuning and washing shifting cleanly, and some other miscellaneous items like adding coolant reservoir. Classic cars are not cheap to work on but i think they do good work. I will be taking it back for some performance upgrades in the near future. read more

Very shady business. STEVE will tell you what you wanna hear to come into the shop. I paid 18k plus for my build I was supposed to have a custom built transmission to handle my olds big block motor that's 1 part of the build I asked for a stage 2 shift kit and corvette servo wich i didn't get initially. With in the first 2 weeks my transmission leaked everywhere I get it back to Steve and he tells me the over filled it somehow ‍. I get the car back 2-3 weeks later my transmission is slipping like crazy get it back to STEVE again and now STEVE tells me the cable was getting pinched/binded like I'm at fault lol so we get to go back and fourth and he fixes it since he's the one that did the installed it. Needless to say I had to finally go to another shop to get the transmission built correctly. He also re did the rear end gears. The bearings on the axles was leaking after about 500 miles the axles and Housing had some pretty good nicks in them as seen in the picture. To top it off there employees have a habit of talking about other paying customers to other customers in a negative manner. There was an issue where STEVE tried to up charge me on parts I had no knowledge of being paid for or installed on my car with no comment so I refused to pay for those parts. But for some reason the employee wanted to bring me up to another customer talking about all I want is free stuff and that I complain to much AND I SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH WHAT I GOT !!!! I have had two vintage Ford Farm tractor 4 cylinder flathead engines that I have fully rebuilt and had Steve do the machining on both. I've had him surface the blocks on both units, pin fit pistons to the rods, hone the new cylinder sleeves I had installed to fit the new pistons. The second engine is a very early 1939 Ford 9N (serial number 292) one of the first produced and among the 60 of record still existing in the world. Since it is very rare any mistake would be disastrous for my restoration on this very early specimen. Steve took awhile to get it done, as he is busy having a good reputation and trusted by a lot of car people, but for me the wait is worth it for a job I consider he will get done right. read more

I had to have my valve seals replaced in my 88 GMC pick up. After calling around to shops in my immediate area, I found out that many do not do that particular service and the one or two that did couldn't do them in a timely manner. I have an old 1991 Jeep Cherokee LImited. It had toe older R-12 air conditioning system for which freon is no longer available. A friend told me about Steve at Clark's Auto Repair as someone who could change out the R-12 system and turn it into a R-134a system. When I took the car in and met Steve, he couldn't have been nicer. He knew exactly what to do and replaced the old A/C system without any problems or issues of any kind. Steve is now my "go to guy" for any issues with that old Jeep - which I LOVE by the way and hope to keep until I can no longer see to drive. In 2007, my VW Jetta oil pump drive chain broke, which started a chain reaction that turned my engine into a worthless lump of metal. After consulting with a mechanic, I was told that the head gasket was blown and the engine would need to be rebuilt due to warping. He suggested that I go to Clark's. Clark's quickly diagnosed the problem and gave me an estimate of $2500 to fix my car, which already had 218,000 miles on it. At first I was reluctant, but $2500 was cheaper than buying a decent used car. I decided to take the gamble, considering that everything else on my car worked properly. Looking back upon it now, I am glad that I took the risk. Yesterday, in January of 2019, I donated the Jetta to charity because it finally gave out on me. I accumulated 336,00 miles on it. Although I hoped that Clark's would give my Jetta another 50,000 miles of life, I did not expect to get an additional 118,000 miles on it and over 11 more years! Steve and the team at Clark's Auto did an excellent job installing an E-Rod LS3 into my 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, as well as a 4L70E transmission. This was a huge project requiring dozens of parts to work together successfully. I did my best to figure out what parts we're required upfront but Clark's did a great job filling in the gaps. Not all of the parts were straightforward installations either. In many cases the team had to customize the parts or had to adapt them to the Trans Am. In particular the electrical work (like adapting the original mechanical gauges to the modern engine) was really done well. Overall I was very happy with the thoroughness and quality of the work. Pricing was reasonable and the swap was completed in just a few weeks. Unlike most shops, they're also in a great location - in Cupertino -where your car will always be safe. A long story bit will make it shorte. The first time they had my car to rebuild a sbc in my classic Ford they had it 4.5 month. Ok the cam went flat now it's back at Clark's to rebuild the engine again but with a roll cam kit... wait for it 7.5 months later they finally got it done had AAA bring it home, due to rain which I couldn't work o the tran cove to fit the 5sp o/d I had them instal. Now March got it back on the road again, drove it about 15 miles if that the next day, started it and it sounded like a lifter was a bit loose then pulled it onto the road very slowly and rolling about 10mph the engine started making a deep pounding noise stop a block away from home lifted the hood and listen which side the noise was coming from, closed the hood cheeping back into my driveway and shut it off fast. i called Steve which said there's not space to park it, I said ok then call me when you have a place to park it he's saying call me in a few weeks we'll that got repeatEd a number of times as I get the feeling now of being jacked around now that they owe me a motor 5 weeks of BS then by this time I have go in for lung cancer surgery as soon as I got out of ICU 4 days later I called and was told Steve was out on vacation so , I asked the person who answered the phone if the 40 was being worked on he says last week. Ok I've been h at the VA hospital from March 31 today date April 9 th 2023 hopefully I can go home Monday or Tuesday my wife said Steve left a message last week. The car would not go into gear bc air in the clutch line until pump the clu pedal about 20 times they replaced a front brake line I furniture's all tubing fittings , they reused a 1/4" old clutch tubing which looks like a 16 year old kid did. the chargued me $160 per hr that total 16k once, Im never going back. Took my cylinder head in for resurface. told me would take a week , took 3 weeks. stated "will call you back" 4 times, not once did he call me back. didn't even call to tell me its done and ready for pick up. and what takes the cake told me a price over the phone, I agreed , when I come to pick up he increases the price . this is against bureau of automotive repair code and I will be filing a complaint. don't go to this place there are better shops to go to. read more

Have taken my Classic here for the past year or so. ZZ4 Engine replacement. Jammed wheel stud. Transmission pan replacement. Valve cover replacements. Intake manifold gasket leak, and on and on. They are trustworthy, reliable, and know their stuff. Been around for a long time and I hope they stick around for many years to come because it's the only place I trust to bring my baby. My 1988 F150 had some issues. Ran OK but sucked gas like crazy and didnt seem to have much power. After a compression test I decided it was time so I searched for a shop that rebuilds engines and was very frustrated to find hardly anybody does this anymore, one shop said "you just cant find those engines anymore" and another quoted $9K to put in one of those Jasper rebuilt blocks. A friend told me Clarks still did it and I am very thankful for that information. I had forgotten that I took something there back in the '80s, probably a brake drum or something, and was happy with the work. They rebuilt MY engine for much less money and lets just say you dont know how bad something is until you fix it. It runs great and has far more power and fuel economy. I only have 200 miles on it so its not broken in but every time I accelerate I am amazed by the difference. Easy to work with and willing to patiently answer even the dumbest questions. Im a happy camper (I will only use the truck to tow a vintage camp trailer) with a great truck. Thanks Clarks! read more

worst shop i've ever encountered. they do shoddy work and don't stand behind it. their "warranty" is worthless. there is always some excuse why they decide it isn't valid or the problem is decided (by them, of course) to not be directly related. even trying to get them to look at the issue is a challenge. they will tell you to call back days later to make an appt cuz they're too busy to just schedule something. it's absurd the whole way they run this place. bottom line... spend a ton of money for repairs that won't work and they don't care. read more

This is an update to my previous review - I haven't taken any of my cars here again, but Steve from Clark's gave me a call after reading my review and told me he would try to make things right if I ever need to bring my car back in, so I thought that showed some integrity and is worth mentioning. He also remained calm while talking to me, which is rare nowadays for this type of thing. To Clarify on the service I received previously: I stand by my previous review, however I should point out a few things regarding my impression of Clark's in key areas: Auto Repair Services offered - Many, including a full machine shop Technical ability for a given task - Good. The repair work they did do was done to my satisfaction. Trouble-shooting of unknown issues was lacking in my experience. Price - Quite a bit more expensive than what I'm used to paying, but when they made a mistake and put in rubber brake lines when I asked for steel, they corrected it with no additional labor charge. Service - My experience was lacking. See my original review. I tried to be as clear as I could by bringing in a detailed list of what I knew I needed done, but I also told them I had only had the car for awhile and I wanted them to check certain things and make sure things were safe and operating in tip-top shape. They did not identify a few issues that I found within a week later. I was hoping for an above and beyond experience where I was impressed in all aspects, especially with the price they charge, but it didn't happen. Communication - at the shop it was good when we talked face to face, except I wish they would have suggested more options to fix my issues with a quote for additional work if they thought it was important. Had motor rebuilt and worn suspension parts replaced. My car was in and out of their shop for around a year. The whole experience was terrible. Multiple trips for oil leaks caused by them. Scratched my seat with a screwdriver or something. Way over charged. When I asked them where they got there pricing from, they replied retail. What if I have parts? They said they would mark up the labor to make up for the difference. They were way higher than retail. I asked a for particular brand of parts. They didn't provide. One of the items (8 per) are around $10 ea retail ($80). They charged $47.25 ea. ($378). Quoted $1800-$2200 for suspension rebuild (I was ok). Got a call the morning it was ready, new price over $4500. Watch for the bait and switch. I asked for pictures of the entire build. Haven't received one yet to this day. They couldn't even get the drum brakes right. Over $500 spent to fix their work after I left. After several talks and emails about rectifying the issues, I took them to the Bureau of Automotive repair. They had to return all $ I requested. Per BAR, I can make future claims if necessary. These are just some of the facts! If you have any intentions going here, Good Luck! BTW, I have never sued, or reported anyone to any agency. Clarks was the first, and hopefully the last. read more
