The appointment with Monty was on time, friendly, and efficient. Not only were they the best price for the service, they were a reputable local business that I gladly supported. They estimated 1.5 - 1.75 hrs as a shop normally has fluctuation in how long it takes to work or fix a customer car. I had removed the hubcaps at home just to make the job a little easier. But really that's only a 5 min job. Brought my underbody tire changing pucks just in case, but Manny had already told me that they have their own as they work on lots of Teslas. Went for a walk to the nearby mall and got a call 44 mins later! They finished all 4 tires with an average of 11 mins to remove, change, mount, balance, and install each tire. I would highly recommend this shop for any repairs or maintenance -- large or small. They do outstanding work on both complex and small repairs/maintenance at a very reasonable rate. I have a 2014 BMW 3 series wagon and I was faced with the difficult decision of either replacing the timing chain assembly or getting rid of the car. There is a well-known problem with the BMW N20 engine where the timing chain assembly fails at around 100K miles and the engine can self-destruct. In fact, there was a class action settlement regarding this issue as noted here: https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2020/bmw-timing-chain-lawsuit-settlement-reached.shtml. My car was beyond warranty and settlement dates so had to get it repaired out of pocket. A dealer would have charged at least $5K for this service and most other independent shops won't even do the work because it is very involved. The owner Manu and his team already had the tools and experience to replace the timing chain assembly and came in with a very reasonable estimate. Since I was already spending significant money to have the car repaired I asked them to do other maintenance and repair that would extend the life of the car. This included replacement of the oil pump drive assembly, full transmission service and fixing a leaking sunroof. The labor required for replacing the oil drive assembly took significantly longer than expected since the car had AWD but they still only charged me the labor for the original estimate. Mani provided the quote at $675, 2X the price of any other independent BMW repair shop. Expensive $$$. Those guys don't understand BMWs. The steps required to repair quoted by Mani were inaccurate. He wanted to remove a back seat, unscrew the two c-panels, then remove the rear shelf. What he didn't understand is that the steps for my newer model were simplified by the BMW manufacturer. Even AAA couldnt give me a proper diagnosis. For minor service like change oil, fluid check, change tires,..etc. this is a good place and cheaper alternative to the dealership. I am not sure about major repairs. The last repair they've done on my car has to do with my engine overheating. I thought it was good, they were able to fix my car within 3hrs (i didn't have an appointment). But as soon as I left their shop, the engine temperature light came on again, i had to stop and call them what's going on. They told me to come back to their shop. When i got there, they diagnosed that my water pump needs to be replaced! Long story short, i have to leave my car and they rented a car for me to drive to work. Fine. They didn't inform me my car is fixed that same day so i went to work the following day. I received a call from Manu when i was already at work. I asked him why he didnt call me yesterday to tell me my car is fixed and he reasoned he wants to make sure my car is fixed and he needs to do the test drive himself. He said that I can just pick up the car in the morning. Great right? So the following morning, i got there early and i was expecting to see my car park outside. But it wasn't there. Past 8:00 i saw my car being driven by Manu and his employee is on the passenger seat! I asked why they are using my car and Manu told me, he went for a test drive again and that he had to pick up his employee at the train station. This is unacceptable. I checked the mileage and i figured they drove my car to run errands for at least 40miles. And they didn't pay for the rental car loaner they gave me when they promised they would. I have trust issues and bad experiences with this shop. Additionally, they don't have the experience to resolve the problem, especially in one visit. Expect to come back again and pay more. The first visit is a teaser rate. After that, it's similar to the dealer. I brought my M5 in several times to diagnose an oil leak and in each instance they did not have the experience to identify and resolve the problem. I decided to replace the left and right cylinder head gasket myself. I was successful at stopping the leak on the passenger side, which was the easy side. But I still had a slight leak on the driver side because there was little clearance in the engine bay to set the seal properly. I didn't want to do the work again, so I brought it to their shop to do the work. They completed the work, but there were still leaks somewhere else, which they theoretically could not identify. Then with a slight grin on his face, the mechanic stated the oil leak came from the passenger side cylinder head gasket and I needed to get it replaced. The mechanic is a crook. He did not know I just replaced the gasket myself and inspected it for leaks. He has 25yrs of experience with the owner and couldn't track down an oil leak? Unlikely; there are only a few seals. The reality is they will continue to charge you to come back and fix another seal, then another and another. That's how they make their money. Nonetheless, his claim created a lot of problems for me. I ended up stripping some threads on my cylinder head trying to diagnose the so called leak the mechanic aforementioned claimed. This is my mistake. But the mechanic's lie led me on a fishing expedition. I discovered the oil actually came from the oil cap. He previously spilled oil after topping off the fluid when he replaced the driver side gasket. The oil dripped down to the cylinder head cover. Note, read the owner's response below claiming I blamed him for the stripped threads and read what I mentioned above. As others mentioned, expect to come back and pay more, or expect to go somewhere else and pay more to fix this place's work. Also, don't think you're getting a deal. The rates for future visits increases. At that point your better off going to the dealer. I had good experiences at Autotronics. It's expensive but they're more trustworthy. read more
