She even called me the following morning to see if I was feeling alright. I was. I had no pain or bleeding problem. I've had various dental procedures over the years and this was the easiest one of all. I am very thankful...and relieved...that my surgery was handled by Dr. Wong at Renton Modern Dentistry.

When they called me back, I had the X-rays and the check in. It took maybe 50 minutes. The dentist would come and go and what not. He the said he was sending a hygienist in to start the cleaning. I wanted 40 minutes for them to show up, check in on me, give me an update- something. No one did. I had to go to work because at this point, I had been there for 2 hours and haven't gotten the cleaning. I flagged someone down and told her I had to leave. She said I had to checkout. I stood for about 5 minutes (with no one helping me) so I left. I felt bad at first and called them, no answer - left voicemail. No return call. So oh well, I guess they don't care. I tried to make another appointment online- but it said I wasn't allowed. Maybe they banned me? I don't know- but moral of the story- go somewhere else.

I had a very disappointing experience at this dental office today. I am sharing this experience so…read moreother patients are aware of how treatment decisions are handled here. I scheduled a routine cleaning appointment. During the visit, I was told that some of my gum measurements were between 4-6 mm and that I would need a deep cleaning instead. I understand that dentists may recommend additional treatments based on their clinical judgment. However, I clearly stated multiple times that I was not comfortable proceeding with deep cleaning during this visit and that I only wanted the regular cleaning I had originally scheduled. Despite explaining this several times, the staff continued to push the deep cleaning. I was eventually asked by the office manager to sign a refusal form confirming that I declined the recommended treatment. The situation felt unnecessarily pressured and uncomfortable. After I declined the deep cleaning, the hygienist performed what appeared to be an extremely brief cleaning that lasted only a few minutes. The process felt rushed and did not resemble the standard cleaning service I had scheduled or previously received at other dental offices. At one point, after I stated again that I did not want the deep cleaning, the hygienist used a metal scaler to scrape a couple of times on my back molars and showed me the tartar. There was no proper rinsing with water and no thorough cleaning performed. At the end of the visit, I informed the office manager and the owner that I did not receive the service I had originally scheduled. I asked the owner directly whether the reason I was not allowed to receive a regular cleaning was because I refused the deep cleaning they recommended. He confirmed that this was indeed the reason. I fully respect that dentists may recommend treatments they believe are necessary. However, patients should also have the right to decline a recommended procedure and still receive the service they originally booked without feeling pressured or dismissed. Unfortunately, this experience felt more like a sales push than patient-centered care. Patients should feel comfortable discussing treatment options without feeling pressured into procedures they are not ready to accept.

Over the years I have had a few difficulties with dentists (from billing to just packing up and closing down with no notice) so I was a bit apprehensive about going to a new one however I knew I had some significant work to be done. I arrived to a warm and welcoming office with a great receptionist who easily looked up my insurance information since I had forgotten my card. Soon enough I was brought back and Dr. Manchester talked with me before hand to get an idea of what my concerns were and then she performed an in-depth (compared to what I had previously had) exam taking numerous pictures/x-rays. After My Initial exam I was scheduled to come back in on another day for a formal review of what the Dr. Manchester thought I needed and how we wanted to proceed. They were very mindful of cost, time and in general how well I was treated allowing me to feel at ease while scheduling the beginning of what will be a bit longer of a process than I would like - however all of my options were carefully explained to me so I could make the choices I wanted. My next visit was for the initial deep cleaning (they do one side per appointment) which went about as good as that sort of thing can go. The dental hygienist was very nice (as is everyone else seemingly) and thorough. What is an uncomfortable appointment was definitively made much nicer through her careful attention and friendly demeanor. Last but not least I would like to say that about a week after by cleaning I received a hand written note thanking me from the hygienist and it is those little details which separate Renton Smile Dentistry from the rest.

First they x-rayed the wrong tooth and were saying it was that one. After I pointed this out, the x-rayed the correct tooth which was right under the inflammation They diagnosed an infection and recommended an extraction after all the inflammation was gone. I took a week's worth of antibiotics that they prescribed and still had mild swelling so I asked for more antibiotics. They stated that they could now do the infection even with the inflammation and then give me more antibiotics. The scheduling was a fiasco, partly my fault, partly theirs. Finally get and appointment and they call back saying I would have to pay the total for the extraction that day (a week before the appointment). I said I was happy to pay when I came in for the appointment before any work was done. I said I was happy to make a deposit, but was uncomfortable paying in full that early. They canceled my appointment! I've never heard of paying a week before dental or doctor treatment. I'll just find someone else to do the more expensive worked they got too greedy and lost $650 while making $75

Her staff was personable enough, but the work she did was so terrible I had to get it RE-DONE just weeks later. My new dentist was appalled that she would have allowed me to leave her office and arranged to have x-rays sent to my insurance company to explain why I had to have re-work done so quickly. The insurance company and my new dentist asked that she PAY ME BACK for the work she did. I went in for regular dental work and needed two fillings. I warned her up front that since I was a pre-teen, I have had a very abnormal reaction to numbing agents. It takes A LOT to get my numb. This is because I have a central nerve that runs VERY close to the surface. I have had multiple doctors confirm this. She said okay, no problem. When the work started she gave me one round of numbing and tried to start work. I told her, "I'm sorry this is very painful. I told you I am a little different." She said, "Oh you just need some more time for it to work." OK. She tried again 15 mins later. Again, INTENSE pain. I said, "Please, I am telling you, this is still painful." She reluctantly gave me another round and waited another 20 mins. (Mind you I am now 45 mins in the chair and nothing has been done). She tried again and I said it was better, but still could feel things. She said, "You shouldn't be able to feel this." And I reminded her for a THIRD time that I have a different physiology than many. She then leaned into me and asked, "Well I know you may not want to say this, but are you on drugs?" EXCUSE ME?!! "Well this would happen if you were a heavy recreational drug user. You should just tell me if you're an addict. That would make this easier." I was STUNNED. I had warned her prior to doing ANY of this that I have had trouble with numbness and THIS was her reaction?! It sadly bears stating, that I am a black woman... I hope that is not why she made this ridiculous and offensive assumption, but ..... "NO." I told her. "I am NOT an addict or drug user. This is exactly what I told you about before we started nearly an hour ago." "OK if you insist... but it really would make things easier." I wanted to get up and walk out, but I am now mid-drilling (she did SOME before I couldn't take the pain anymore) and I didn't know how to leave with my mouth LITERALLY mid-procedure. When she finally gave a final round of numbing agent and I could take it. But since we were so far behind she kept stopping the work and going to work on OTHER PATIENTS in the middle of my procedure. Finally 2 hours in on 2 fillings, she barely buffed my fillings and said...OK you'll have to come back another time for me to finish. The feeling in my mouth was UNBELEIVABLE. The filling was so rough I could feel my tongue was going to be rubbed raw. My jaw was ACHING (I have TMJ) from holding it open for 2 hours. And what I didn't know is that her work was so harsh that my gums would recede. They are STILL (a year later) not normal and I have to have my new dentist put a protective sheath around them every 6 months or so to prevent pain because my gums have never been normal again around those teeth. My new dentist is lovely. She Immediately LISTENED when I told her about my issue with numbing and I have NEVER had a problem again. When she saw the work Dr. Nguyen had done, she was so disturbed she said she wanted to make sure she documented the HORRENDOUS work she did so that it could be corrected without me having to pay out of pocket. (Insurance companies will not pay for duplicative work in the same 6 month period without documentation.) The insurance company agreed to pay -- process that. I asked my new dentist what I should do about this. I was traumatized, discriminated against and my teeth were REALLY messed up. She said the only thing I could do would be to ask for the portion of the work I paid for to be returned. When I called Dr. Nguyen's office to explain. Her staff was again, kind but all I received from her was a folded blank piece of paper in the mail from Advanced Dentistry, with a check for $248. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE Dr. NGUYEN YOUR BUSINESS. DO NOT TRUST HER WITH YOUR DENTAL HEALTH. PLEASE don't be me.

I mean I get it, work isn't always fun but as a first time mom with a 1 year old with cavities, I had a lot of concerns and was nervous about what steps we'd need to take. Neither the front desk or doctor eased any of those concerns or even helped me calm my son while he was screaming in fear. We both felt unsafe and I couldn't even think straight due to having so much anxiety. At our last visit, I was very hesitant about continuing with them and they ended up referring me to another dentistry in UW. The problem is, that office wasn't not in-network with my insurance. Literally was just a waste of time.

At the time it happened my mouth would fill up with blood, and I had to keep swallowing it because everyone left the room. (he sees multiple patients at one time - chaos). I told him at the time there was a lot of damage to my tongue and he waved that off saying: "little cut". Well, it was a LOT more damage than a little cut both on the tongue and where he drilled into the cheek. When he works on you his hands shake and as another reviewer said it appears he has some kind of problem. When I got to my car I called my wife and told her the situation. By the time I got home she had looked up other reviews and found numerous references to the hands shaking. I quote them below: "Also, the dentist shakes like he has parkinsons.
