Mount Bakery is definitely at the top of my favorite places for brunch in Bellingham. I went after a friend raved to me how much she loved their eggs benedict, so I figured I should check it out! We went a little bit later on a Sunday and waited about 15-20 minutes, which really isn't bad, especially for a Sunday. Although there's not a ton, there is seating available for guests to use when waiting to be seated or waiting for a takeout order. The restaurant, to my understanding, had recently received some renovations, allowing for more seating space and a full menu! It's not the "cutest" space, but there were some bright windows and art displayed on the walls. We were seated at a table in the center of the restaurant, which is totally fine, but something about how open it was felt very vulnerable and a bit off to me. This didn't bother the people I was with, though. I ordered a crepe and WOW - it was so good! I was really loving every bite of it and would come back solely for another. Had breakfast here for the first time and we were disappointed. I had the classic eggs benedict. The eggs and ham were fine, but I really wish they didn't pile it all on top of their roasted potatoes, which makes it cumbersome to deal with. What really ruined this meal for us was the truly lousy potatoes. I don't know what they do to them to take away their natural flavor, but they weren't worth eating. What little flavor they had was an odd, "off" flavor that I can't describe, and they were mushy. I will not get eggs benedict here again, and it will be a while before I feel like trying something else. Service was not very attentive (even though they only had a few customers at the time) and definitely not what I would call friendly. Didn't know it was graduation Saturday. Place was packed. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Biscuits and gravy were on the Specials board. Went with that. OMG, this was the best decision of my day! Most delicious biscuits I've ever had! Moist and tasty! Just a hint of buttery goodness. The sausage gravy was pretty good, no chunks of sausage, but you could taste the sausage. They have 'Twists' that I will try some other day. Made from croissant dough, with orange and hazelnut. Stopped in for the first time during shelter-in-place, and just an incredibly cute and well-run cafe! They had the pastries in the window to look at, and we got lattes, a breakfast sandwich, a breakfast burrito, the Belgian chocolate cookie, and an orange and cranberry scone. Interesting location, it doesn't look like much from the outside but the location allows for a lot of parking. The inside it nice with local art and small tables. I got the smoked salmon benny and see what others have said about the thicker sauce, but I actually enjoyed it over the waffle it is all served on! This Mount Bakery outpost is located just up the hill from the main Fairhaven downtown area. It's within a small strip mall and from the outside, is rather plain looking. But don't judge a bakery book by its cover. And this is the Pacific Northwest after all. My choice was outstanding and with some excellent coffee to go with it. This place is great! I love visiting as the staff here are great and the eats are high quality and tasty. My favorite meals are the egg breakfasts, especially the "Best Benny." The wife loves the crepes as well. I think the prices are fair considering Bellingham is getting really expensive to live in. We still eat here about once a month, probably one of our favorite places right now. Also take a dessert to go, and the hot cocoa is chocolatey and perfect for a rainy morning. read more

Very quaint breakfast/brunch spot in downtown Fairhaven. Loved the art on the walls. Staff was friendly and attentive even though it was very busy. Husband had the BLEAT (bacon, lettuce, egg, avocado, tomato)... it was a monster of a sandwich. I tried the sausage crepe and was very pleased... loved the combination of Swiss, sausage and caramelized onions on a thin, crispy crepe. The roasted potatoes on the side were very tasty as well. Didn't see much of a variety of baked goods it it was later in the day so maybe they had run out. Overall great place to visit when in town. read more

I've been eating their baked goods for years, specifically from the Fairhaven location. They are great. I would give 5 STARS to their baked goods. But I give 1 STAR to the breakfast I had this morning . My daughter informed me that their new "restaurant" opened a few weeks ago so we decided to try it. They expanded the small space in the strip mall anchored by WECU and are now open for full breakfasts. My daughter had a "breakfast sandwich" and was pleased with it. It's larger than any breakfast sandwich I've ever seen. I ordered the Tomato Benny.... their attempt at making a vegetarian Eggs Benedict. Other places call it "Florentine" because of the spinach but these folks are making an attempt at frou frou. Now, I have to tell you the space is pleasant to be in, colorful, view of the Bay, etc. and the server we had was an experienced, seasoned, charming fellow who we've seen around town. Up until the food arrived, the experience was A #1.... wonderful. I took a forkful of my eggs benedict and immediately knew that these folks still have some kinks to work out. The Hollandaise sauce tasted like they took a hunk of Gouda and melted it in a butter sauce and then thinned it down. There wasn't even a hint of the characteristic tang that any good Hollandaise sauce has. At best, it was cheesy (and it shouldn't be). At worst, it was just plain flat. Frankly, it spoiled my entire breakfast. Compounding things, the eggs benedict was served on a waffle. Now, my daughter told me that it was written in the menu. And I admit I did not read the description carefully. But this whole thing of serving food on waffles has to stop. It was disgusting. When the charming server came around to ask how the food was, I debated whether I should tell him it was lousy. I opted for yes, tell him. He accepted my input gracefully and said he would look into it. I was happy at that point. But he came back a while later with a cock and bull story about Hollandaise sauce in Belgium is different than Hollandaise sauce in France, blah blah blah. Well, I've lived in Belgium and France and have had the Hollandaise sauces there. His explanation, while charming, just does not hold up. They need to suck it up and figure out how to make a decent Hollandaise before continuing to offer a list of various Benedicts as options for breakfast. I half expected a reduction in the bill because the food was so bad. However, that did not come to pass. I was disappointed in Mount Bakery this morning. I have lived in Bellingham for 17 years and finally made it to Mount Bakery. Shared a bacon breakfast sandwich, banana crepe, and biscuits and gravy with my husband and honestly cannot say what I enjoyed the most. All we're fantastic. We have family coming into town in a few weeks and this place just moved to the top of the list of breakfast restaurants to hit! I've been here twice, and been disappointed both times. I ordered their traditional breakfast. The scrambled eggs were undercooked and slimy, their sourdough bread was not toasted and had no flavor, their potatoes had no flavor. My husband got their BLTASE sandwich which he said was disappointing and very bland. We got a cinnamon roll to salvage our bland meal and it was so tough, like it was an old pastry. So disappointed. All in all their food is bland and there are much better places in Bellingham to get an overpriced breakfast. read more

The food was delicious, the service was good but the manager was very rude. We asked for a grilled cheese for the 2 year old in our party. The waitress took our order and was so nice then the manager came and said they could not make that for us. There was a grilled ham and cheese on the menu and he argued with us and we were ready to leave (9 of us) so he then said he would make it this time but never again! Mount Bakery Fairhaven is an incredible find! Probably the best breakfast I have ever had with it's warm and inviting small town presence. The delectable pastries remind you of eating in a Paris Street corner (croissants to perfection) and the staff is courteous and friendly. The food is simply wonderful and I will have to go back several more times to taste all the amazing dishes (since I am from Pasadena CA this will be challenging!) Owner Vince Lalond, is often greeting guests, and working behind the counter and takes pride in the two restaurants he has created.
