Did an awesome job of raising the headstone of family members, that had started to sink.

My mother was buried here in 2012, every year I order Christmas decorations for her grave. Yesterday, my brother visited the grave and found that Mount Hope placed an artificial wreath on the grave which looks nothing like the beautiful wreath that they offer online. I called to complain, and the woman who answered the phone and refused to give me her name stated there was nothing she could do about it, and that she thought it was a nice looking wreath that she picked out herself. Notice the pictures online as opposed to what they put on my mom's grave. The wreath online looks gorgeous, however, they chose a cheap five to $10 Walmart wreath to place on the grave. Do not order from Mount Hope Place your own decorations on the grave. This wreath cost $50! read more

It's not the dead you have to worry about, it's the living residue they leave behind. There aren't many complaints a person can have about a cemetery. They are the depositories for the deceased; the final resting place for the nonliving who have made their final contribution to history. Despite the reputation it has gained caused by unsavory characters who haven't learned to let some things go, I found the workers helpful in assisting us to find our loved one by texting a map of their specific location to my phone. I came in to see about my grandmother's grave. I found out she didn't have a headstone and went into the office to ask about getting her one. I worked with Fernando and I can't recommend him enough. He was patient, professional, and patient. I asked for someone to help me find her unmarked grave and a worker met me and walked me to the exact spot based on their records. I know we are in a (COVID-19) pandemic but does that allow a business to go dormant? I have reached out and left multiple messages in attempt to order a headstone without any success. When someone does answer the phone- they are unknowledgeable. While I understand they are concerned with possible outbreak issues...family needs must to addressed especially during this time. On the other hand, the ground keepers are very nice and helpful hence the reason for the 2-stars. However, it takes an entire company to do a complete and thorough job - placing the customer first in every aspect. Still waiting for refund from grave decoration not done. Talked with office through intercom at door due to Covid restrictions at the time, also wrote 2 letters later, and called, and then emailed. Emailed said they would send a refund but it would take 90 days, 2 months had already passed. Maybe I could consider it a donation, or notify Illinois Attorney general, and Cook County Sheriff office of the issue. So sad. read more

Mount Hope is the worst. first of all you can never talk to anybody and if you go there you have to talk throw an intercom. My Son was placed in his crypt wall on July 15th 2022 and his crypt inscription was paid in full 2 weeks later and it wasn't on there until June of this year. Also I went there yesterday to visit family and couldn't visit my Granddaughter because they won give you the info instead you have to text some number and wait for a map to be sent. Needless to say it's been almost 24 hours and I still haven't gotten the info I requested. read more

I know few people check Yelp when deciding burial options. Usually families want to be buried together. My friend, wanted to visit his mother and grandmother before work. A lady in the office said that she wasn't helping anyone locate plots because she started at ten. This was so callous to the number of people waiting. Why be in the office, visible at 9am? I understand that people want to be paid for working, but this was so callous, but would not have been worthy of this review. He then drove to search where they were buried and ended up in tears. The area was under construction, there were boards everywhere for the machinery and all of the headstones were caked in mud!!! There was no way to find the plots. Who runs this place and wouldn't care if the headstones were covered in mud from construction? Why not remove all the boards? Why wouldn't they clean it prior to mother's day, when they knew they would have a large, emotional crowd? He had to leave. read more

My sister was laid to rest in April 2019 . My family and I were okay with the service that was given up until it was time for the headstone to be laid down. We paid for the headstone in full. In 2022 and it's going on a year and when I inquired about it I was told that it would be laid down by April because of the weather and now it's April and I was told it would be in 90 days. I asked if I could speak to the person who I purchased it from and they said Tony Robert's doesn't work for them anymore. My family and I are pissed off and in disbelief. I want say that I won't recommend this place to anyone but I would say that they need to get better with their services and communicate with their customers. read more

I truly wish I could give less than 1 star! This is the worst place to do business! My family placed the order for my dads headstone IN MAY! We were told it would be put down by August/September. We get to September only to find out the order was NEVER PLACED! We called and called and left message after message only to MEVER hear anything back. It was to the point where my sister and I tagged teamed to call them EVERY HOUR until someone gave us answers! I was willing to fill their voicemail and make an appointment to "bury someone else" and sit there until I received answers! Mind you we ordered close to $7k worth of headstones (needed one for my grandparents as well) after A LOT of back and forth and trying to be understanding these fuckers NEVER PLACED THE ORDER FOR MY DADS HEADSTONE even after we talked AGAIN in September! Do NOT take your family or your business/money to this trifling ass place! They had no challenges with taking our money however clearly have no intention on providing us a service/product! I wasn't there to bury the dead, but pay homage to a notorious White Sox great: Buck Weaver. Buck played shortstop for the infamous 1919 squad and was banned from baseball following the "Black Sox" scandal. All facts point to Weaver's innocence, and there's an online petition to Clear Buck at http://www.clearbuck.com/ After finding Buck's resting place (Sox fans: take a left at the first bend, follow it up a bit and it's on the left side of the road) we continued to tour the grounds. There are a number of great mausoleums here, including one from the notable Swift family of old Chicago days. My favorite was a deco-to-the-max, Egyptian-inspired fantasy for the Noble family. I know nothing of their history, but they died in high style. The rolling landscape might be described as bucolic and pastoral, the remnants of Chicago's geological past, located on the west side of the Blue Island. A tour lead by someone with some serious knowledge of geology our glacial past would surely be interesting. I've seen this cemetery illustrated in books about Chicago's natural history. I find it a bit disconcerting to be giving cemeteries stars, but hey, it's here on yelp, and I found it a fascinating visit, so hopefully this will be a bit of help to those visitors that are headed for reasons other than the sad loss of someone they loved. They do not follow the guidelines provided regarding your loved ones. Once they get your money, they don't give a damn!! I would NOT recommend placing your loved ones there. read more

I called mt hope cemetery in evergreen park and spoke with Jill B to set up an appointment for my brother to have his remains buried there. Monday April 15 @10am me and my niece get there the system is down and the African America receptionist at the front door is rude as hell. Not sympathetic to the people thats coming there for there love ones. We go to Jill's office to set everything up she said they did an upgrade 5years ago but they still don't know how to use the system it's took us 2 1/2 hours to get everything set up.During the process of making the arrangements the prices didn't match what Jill had quoted me when we talked on the phone. Jill was surprised herself that the company had done an increase to the price and the staff was not aware of it. I asked for the manager twice she never came to speak with us. Poor businesses ethics. So we did end up getting the quoted price. Now today Wednesday Jill calls my niece and tells her that she didn't realize that June 3 was a Saturday and there is an additional 200$ fee. It showed Saturday when she entered the date. Ask to speak with management,out of town. Can't move forward until they get that extra money. I would never refer anyone here they are a ripoff price gouging lack of compassion and communication and not knowledgeable of their job not good business when people are mourning the loss of their loved ones. read more

On my 5/23/22 visit I was happy to see they are doing a lot of landscaping and improvements. Also, I couldn't find my aunts grave, I called the office. The lady was very helpful and she texted me the location and even sent someone out to show me the grave! Everyone was very kind. read more

One of the worst cemetaries i have ever seen, headstones are sinking into the ground in a lot of areas, and portruding up out of the ground in others making it hard for them to even cut the grass. I was in shock on Saturday 2/3/18 when I arrived at Mount Hope Cemetery for my friend's mothers funeral. My husband and I have never since anything like this in all our days. First of all, there was over an hours wait in our cars, I'm not sure if this could be avoided or not but let me tell you what could have been avoided. The place was messy, dusty and dangerous when walking up the hill to be where the family gathered for their final goodbye of their loved one. I understand that it was newly developed space "If you can call it developed" all I can say is, thank God it wasn't raining. The Pallbearers dressed in Sunday shoes had to walk the casket up this hill which was about a 75 feet to the gravesite. The path was very uneven with deep tractor ruts it was visibly hard to watch as they struggle up the hill stopping occasionally to get sure-footed. It was a miracle no one twisted their ankle and fell with the casket. Mount Hope had buckled plywood laid out that looked more dangerous than the walking the uneven hill many chose the dirt instead of the plywood and the plywood didn't lead to their loved one anyway There were elderly walking up the hill on this horrible path an accident waiting to happen and a liability. I believe Mount Hope could have and should have made this transition up the hill smoother and safer for the mourners with leveling out the hill better and laying down turf for the mourner to walk on directly to their loved one resting place. It was disgraceful. I had to ask myself since my husband and I was the only Caucasians present is this normal for African Americans? It certainly isn't the norm in our world. If this is their normal I find it even more disgraceful and wrong. read more

My father purchase three Graves 10 years ago. When he passed away in 2015, we went in the office and ask can we place a monument or headstone on my father's grave. We were told because we had three graves we could buy a monument. Now when it came time we bought the monument and it's time to place the monument, now we're told we have to have 4 Graves. Now what are we to do with a monument that we paid for? This the worst place to do business with. Nobody knows anything about anything. read more

The hardest thing I ever had to do in my life was to bury my son. If I would have known what I know now about Mt. Hope Cemetery I would have not buried my son here. I've have had nothing but problems since the burial. March 16, 2021 I paid in full for the engraving, vase and picture for my son mausoleum. Yes I was told due to COVID-19 it would be 90 days before they could install it but after 4 months and its still not installed and not one word from anyone from their office. They don't answer calls and you are lucky if they return your calls. I went to the office to talk to someone in person about it and I was told I had to make a appointment. At this point that is not an option. So she said wait a minute someone will be with you. So while I'm waiting outside in 90 degree weather for 10 minutes she trying to act like I'm not outside or if she make me wait long enough I would leave. Is this really how you do business, this is how you treat grieving family. They have no compassion or sympathy . Mt. Hope Cemetery is NOT a place you want to bury your loved ones. Not a big fan of this place at all! I buried my mom there 5 yrs ago in a new development area, she was the first person to be buried in this new development area and I was sold on how nice it was going to be they were going to place a bench over there for people to sit and visit all lies! They tell you what you want to hear at the time to sale the plot. I visit quite often and when I tell you it looks the same 5 yrs ago except more graves no grass it's a mess ! I recently had put put in a request for them to dig up my mother's vase because they buried it putting in another grave. I was told it would be 2 days before they get to it and someone would give me a call back once it was done a week went by and no call so I decided to go up there and place flowers on her grave site thinking it's been a week I'm sure the vase is up. Well guess what it wasn't! So I went to the office to see someone about it just before they closed. There was a lady there who was very helpful in getting someone to help me . This time I waited there until it was done. I will never bury another love one there again! I have never seen a cemetery like this one ! Not clean, customer service is horrible! I forgot to mention business must be good because the office has been newly renovated since 5 yrs ago ! But no other changes to the lawn. read more

I have two family members buried here. I had not say in the matter so there was nothing I could say. They are two older cousins, brothers who died within a year of each other. At both burials, I was horrified at the condition of the cemetery. We arrived an 1/2 before schedule and had to wait an additional hour and a half; why? because when it rains the grounds at Mt Hope become flooded and the crypt for my cousin was already 1/2 of water. They were literally pumping it out when we arrived!! I'm saddened to think that both of these brothers are laying inside their coffins IN WATER. Right before my mom passed 2 years ago, she said she wanted to be buried here. My sisters and I vetoed that idea and took her to a better cemetery. Even the funeral home said we chose the best one. The wait time on any given Saturday is an hour to bury your loved one. The grounds are always muddy and unkempt. I would not use this cemetery to bury a paper clip let alone someone you care about. read more

This is the most HORRIBLE and UNPROFESSIONAL cemetery I have ever been to. Do not bury your loved one here!!! There was a funeral scheduled before our loved ones service and we sat and waited for over an hour for the funeral patrons ahead us to move because they were blocking the path for us to get to our loved ones burial site. When I called the office to request for someone to assist the patrons with moving their cars to the other side the manager HUNG UP on me and never assisted with moving the patrons on. It's bad enough to lose a loved one but to be disrespected by the management staff is another. I will continue to alarm others until I connect with the owner!!!! read more

I was referred to this place by a funeral director and I have had a very irritating experience. I buried my father there in 2014 my insurance policy paid for the plot in full. A few months later I came back and bought the headstone (paid in full) and I purchased (on a payment plan) the plot next to my dads at this time. The rep tell me check back in a few months to see if the headstone arrived. I called back months later and the headstone was neverrrrr ordered and it took them forever to even find the paperwork. Some elderly woman who had since than retired never put order in and misplaced the paperwork (They had no computers). The first winter after we buried my dad there and his headstone was finally placed we went to visit and couldn't even find the headstone because they were digging and covered it with a pile of dirt. The grounds man stated to my sister to come back after the winter. Now just today I received a bill in the mail stating that I owe a balance on my dads plot. I called and I got no answers and they didn't even have in the system that I am paying on a plot next to the plot I already own... Im glad I have all my paperwork because the rep claims that they need to research and get back to me. This is ridiculous this place need to keep up with modern times. I would never recommend this it has been such an inconvenience. Now I have to go back there to show them the paperwork that they gave me read more

In my family's time of sadness, everyone there, especially Reverend Perry Walker, was of great help. They walked me through the entire process from beginning to end, without any hesitation.
