Save your money -- not to mention a whole bunch of aggravation and dissatisfaction -- by staying as far away from Outdoor Adventures as possible. Don't be lured in by their promises of pseudo-Yeti tumblers (ours mysteriously never materialized, even after we purchased a membership; in hindsight we should have seen their unavailability as a harbinger of things to come vis-a-vis actually procuring a campsite). In all fairness, we DID get two t-shirts which were hideous but made lovely truck-washing rags when cut up. If you ignore my advice and buy a membership, expect zero site availability unless you want to rent one of their trailers (which in our experience and that of many others with whom we've spoken, sit empty, their only discernible purpose in keeping members from utilizing those sites). I won't go into the promises they make during their sales spiel. Suffice it to say that I'm suitably impressed that their salespersons' pants haven't all gone up in flames by midday, errydarnday. No matter what they tell you, it's obvious (in hindsight) that they've oversold, and continue to sell memberships while not adding any campsites (in reality DELETING campsites by clogging them up with their rental trailers which occupy sites for weeks on end with no occupants in sight, instead of parking the trailers out back until needed like any reputable business with any interest whatsoever in customer satisfaction would do). In short, use your hard-earned money to buy a cute little acre somewhere, run in electricity, dig a well, and put in septic. You will still be thousands of dollars ahead, and your property taxes won't be any more than the monthly maintenance fees you would pay on property you can't even use. I'm a lifetime member of Outdoor Adventures (ODA), but this was our first visit here. This place is a mixed bag. On the plus it is in the country, isolated, quiet with a pool and C-store. On the negatives, there is no charm or personality and NO internet. For us we live on the internet even retired. Out hobbies are all on line, we do a lot of reading and research on line and you can forget that here. You will get NO Verizon or AT&T, none. We are outfitted with Cell and WI-FI boosters and they do nothing out here. And as far as the free WI-FI that ODA promotes, it a laugh! 1 mps up/down (that is the stated deliverable), speeds that went out with dial up. And ODA has the audacity to want to charge it's lifetime members $28/week for minimally more speed. There is no justification for this. As a result we cut our vacation 4 days short. We will only come back once ODA guarantees higher speed. read more

My husband and I went to a sales pitch for Outdoor adventures. I went in thinking there was no way I was going to purchase as we aren't campers and don't have a RV or interest sleeping in a tent. Through the pitch, there was some interesting options and it seemed like staying in a cabin would be nice. We wanted to think about it, but was pressured to make a decision. We were assured in this process that we would be able to sell back to the share if we were unhappy. The sales associate even showed us ones that other people were selling. We tried to buy one of these shares, but were told that we would be unable to finance those shares and needed to purchase a different one. There was no cell phone service in the building (whether my phone wasn't working I am not sure), so I couldn't search what I was looking at. Needless to say, against my better judgement, we purchased. In the first year, we attempted to use our membership 4 times. Every time there was no available rentals. We tried all the ones near Grand Haven and the Holly location. We were locked into a high interest credit card, but I continued to pay it. I paid the maintenance fees (which is more than many timeshare companies). My husband and I have never used this. So, we decided that since we can't use the property we would sell, as we were told we could. The manager was very rude and noted that we couldn't and that we had a lifetime contract to pay the maintenance fees. I explained that isn't what I was told and pointed me towards the contact. Sadly, I didn't fully read the contract because we sat so long during the pitch that I accepted what I was being told and signed. I will say that this is my fault, but it doesn't dismiss that they are explaining one thing and then having a contract for something else. It is bad business practice. So fast forward. I live in another state and I will be honest, I forgot that I had this contract. So, the company has called me and I told them that I was frustrated because they promised I could sell it, and now I can't. I also have never been able to use the membership. The worker was extremely rude and told me at first she could propose a payment plan and asked me how much I could pay. I told her $50 and she said I don't know about that. The caller then noted that to get out of the contract I would need to pay for 2 years of member fees. In talking to her, I found out they have a place in Ohio near a 3 day concert I am going to. I figured that I would give them one more chance. I then asked if I pay the 2 years, can I use it until the end of the year. The way I look at it, this is similar if you break a contract with a rental agency. They are charging you for lost wages while they find someone to take you rental. My thought is, I am giving them time to find someone to take my place, but if I am paying for an extra year, I should be able to use it in that time. I told her that I would immediately pay one year and pay the next year in a month. The caller said I couldn't do that and repeated that it is a cancellation fee, but continues to talk about how I can't use the property and tried to sell me to keep it. Finally when she said I couldn't, I asked her if I can go on a payment plan then for $100 a month. The caller then said no, you have to pay in full. She is the one that brought up a possible payment plan. I explained that and she said that she never promised, she would ask her manager. Again, she brought it up. So, then I told her I would start posting and I got "are you threatening me". My response was no, but it is my right to post my experience. So in the end, they have poor business practices. They promise more than they can deliver. This may be a good deal if you have a RV or do tent camping. If you want to use a cabin, there is not a good possibility that you will ever get in. They have very shady business practices. I would suggest that no one sign without a lawyer or without fully reading the contract. They are what everyone worries about timeshare, vacation rental, etc. Also I have no opinion on the actual properties because I have never been able to use them. read more

Can not say enough about this group. Friendly, fun, energetic and bend over backwards to please. We bought a new trailer last fall and we're given the opportunity to camp 21 times for free. Of course you have to listen to a talk and take a tour. Well, we went in with this won't work for us. Several options were given and we did find a good way to go that we could benefit. Went back to make sure we understood how all parts work. They were patient and realized it was late and we had a 2 1/2 hour ride back to camp. John first made sure to see if a cabin was available and not only did he do that.... he gave us a free stay. Since we are full timing it, we are excited to camp for free at all the Michigan RV resorts that they own. Also, being able to camp for 10.00 a night at different coast to coast camp grounds across the US. John, Alex and Tyler.... ( and the rest of the guys stuffed in the closet...LOL) and the young lady up front, you really like what you are doing and it shows. read more
