Came into this market on a Saturday evening around 5pm as we were visiting for a renovation project meeting. I was looking for a quick dessert to take back to our hotel to enjoy. This market is small but has a nice variety of food and also had a nice variety of wines. So happy we found this market. The employees at the counter were very friendly too. The store looked like it was in an original building with the great wooden flooring. And we found what we were looking for!! read more

I was looking for a place to get dinner in town, and the reviews for the places open nearby were pretty abysmal. So I decided to get a sandwich at the deli counter at this little grocery store. After I filled out my sandwich order slip, the server asked, "Are you ready for an awesome sandwich?" I nodded that, yes, I was. It turned out to be a really good sandwich, veggie with avocado on what tasted like homemade sourdough bread. It made my evening. Thanks! read more

My partner and I were recently went to Shasta for a long weekend. Although we did most of our grocery shopping at a supermarket on the way there, we realized we still needed some items, so we dropped by Mount Shasta Super Market. We were very happy with our shopping experience there! We were pleasantly surprised with the nice selection of products. There were meats, produce, snacks, and even sandwiches and hot foods (which seemed like a popular area). We appreciated the friendliness of the staff; they were really nice and made us feel welcome. There's a small parking lot, although street parking was aplenty. A bonus was that they even offered cash back, which came in handy. Although we did most of our shopping at a supermarket on the way to Shasta, in retrospect, I think we could've relied just on Mount Shasta Super Market without much issue. It's a great local market. I unfortunately have had to rely on shopping this store because it's close and I don't drive. They are now more expensive than Berryvale, the high-end organic market where I also shop regularly, which is extremely disconcerting. Luckily, they recently hired a very jovial young man who redeems this place at least a bit. Everyone else who works there is next to insufferable and needs to be retrained to be not only proper grocery clerks, but also human beings. Hey, so it's not your career choice...we're all struggling these days. With the extortionately high prices you are charging, the least you checkers and other personnel could do is (just maybe) put on a happy face and pretend that you are more than qualified to work with the public in a customer service capacity? Otherwise, go dig ditches or recycle cans or something other than a public-facing job. Thank you. read more

This review is for the sandwiches from their deli counter. A friend and I were in town for the weekend to go snowshoeing and needed sandwiches to take on the trail with us. We stopped by and got custom sandwiches from the deli counter. The sandwiches were DELICIOUS. Maybe it was our hunger from snowshoeing, but it was one of the best trail sandwiches I've ever had. read more

One of the best local grocery stores- small but mighty. Their sandwiches are to die for and if you're going for that, make sure you either order ahead or plan accordingly because you get what you pay for and the wait is well worth it! But wait there's more..., make sure you also pick up their homemade mac & cheese (I prefer white cheddar) but they have both or their scallop potatoes and Keith's Beans. Love, love, love. VEGAN OPTIONS! My partner and I were driving through the area and in search of a quick bite. We saw that this supermarket had a deli so we decided to stop. Their parking lot is small but there is also plenty of street parking around. The deli counter is one of the first things by the door. Grab a white ticket and fill out what type of sando you want and the fixings for it. They had one veg option - a veg sandwich. I thought it was pretty basic (essentially a salad without dressing between two slices of bread) but I enjoyed that there were sprouts available as a fixing and that there was a dairy and meat free option. FYI, the wheat bread is sandwich bread style and not a roll. My partner enjoyed his non-veg sandwich a lot. Overall, very quick and perfect for on the go. Everyone was very nice. Also, since this is a grocery store, you can get something to drink and snacks before checking out. read more

For a small town, I was very impressed with this little market. It was packed, especially at the entrance which is where the deli. Ordering a sandwich for lunch from the deli here must be the thing to do. So, naturally we followed suit to see what was so great. Ok, yes my sandwich was delicious. Turkey and swiss on wheat with avocado, lettuce, tomato and light mayo and mustard. Yum! We initially went in for groceries to take to our camp site. We picked up everything we needed for the couple days. Prices are reasonable and selection was great. read more

This a cool small old school mini super market in the heart of Shasta City. The visit here consisted of bottles water and some snacks for the road. I thought the water bottles were going to be over price, but I was wrong given they were priced at .79 cents for a 23 oz bottle. We also picked up a few other items such as beef jerky and trail mix. The place is a little crammed but it works. They even have a meat counter and deli. The staff members at the register were friendly and welcoming. This is the best meat you can find in all of California. Every time I come here from the horrible and crowded bay area, I stop by this place and buy all the meat, mash potatoes, and macaroni and cheese I can find. They barbecue all the meat themselves. I really love this place! read more

The smoked chicken with bbq sauce is nothing like it used to be. Very disappointing! Chicken is very dry - no sauce on the side. And "whole" chicken is NOT whole - the chunk of the breast meat is MISSING and the wings are pressed in so tight that it's hard to see inside the package. Clearly, the breast meat had been sliced off in both the chickens we got. Not worth $10 per package! The leg quarters were very small. There are more bones and less meat per package. They charge by unit, not by weight. Their version of whole chicken is only enough for 1 person, if they don't mind dry meat. Also, the smoke flavor just didn't come through. We've stopped here in the past during road trips. They used to sell real whole chicken (no missing parts) with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce and it was not packaged up. Now it's ruined. Longtime customer here! Mt. Shasta Supermarket has always put community first and during the pandemic has gone beyond my expectations in providing a safe, friendly place to shop. I have not seen one anti-masker causing a scene there because they have clear signage and for the first few months, had the owner near the door, nicely explaining things until everyone got it. They did this while all the other businesses were screaming and complaining about "closures", meanwhile, I shopped there and at Berryvale, which was similar in its immediate response to the safety hazards presented by the pandemic. I stopped going where I wasn't safe, period. For a tiny market, the prices are reasonable. The meat is always fresh and amazing and competitively priced. The produce section is small because of circumstances, yet they always keep it stocked with the things I need. It's not easy in a small space like that and they do really well. The barbecue is "to die for" as we all know. So thank you Keith and everyone at Mt. Shasta Supermarket, for caring about your customers enough to make the tough decisions. read more

I was off the beaten track, wanted a simple deli sandwich. I walked in, was greeted warmly, shown how to write up my request and 6 minutes later had a wonderful roast beef sandwich for under $6. The grocery store prices were high but location and cost of transport drives overall costs. All in all, very good experience read more

Just follow your nose to find the market on Fridays and Saturdays when they fire up the BBQ pit and grill assorted meats. My husband can't resist the ribs. Good thing we always come to Shasta on weekends. I'm not a big meat eater so get a made-to-order sandwich while he gnaws on his ribs for lunch. The sandwiches take awhile to make. I recommend that you chat with others also waiting or peruse the aisles to make the time seem to go by quicker. The car show that brings us up to Shasta every year has the market cater their awards dinner. We look forward to the delicious food and friendly servers (I think most of them are family) This year when I commented to the server of the salad that I had recently developed an allergy to lettuce which was tragic for me as I loved salads she offered to pick out the cucumbers and tomatoes so that I could have some semblance of a salad. Mt. Shasta Super Market...good things do come in small packages. What's so good about this pint-size of a supermarket? 1. They carry beef from Siskiyou County's Prather Ranch, which is hormone-free. 2. It's very convenient to run in and grab a few items for dinner. Forget Ray's! They even have cute little shopping carts to match the cute little store. 3. BBQ on Friday and great deli sandwiches every day. 4. Nice wine and beer selection. I hit up the gigantic bottles of Nigori sake for $11; which goes perfectly with my homemade sushi rolls. 5. Very nice checker's. Thumper is my favorite. Word of caution: make sure they ring your produce up correctly. Maybe I got a new employee last night, but she rang up three items incorrectly. read more

Wonderful, helpful, knowledgable staff. Delicious sandwiches made to order, and mouth watering BBQ every Friday and Saturday (seriously pre order if you really want it. That stuff sells out fast some times). Brenna (and the deli) makes very beautiful meat and cheese trays and helps you with anything you need! Keith (the owner) and his son's (Collin and Clayton) are almost always there working, helping out, and talking to anyone who comes to say hello. Seth (the butcher) is very good at what he does, and tries to keep the counter stocked as full as possible. Brett and Justin (managers) are very amazing, They will drop everything to help you find, order, carry anything you need. There are a ton of other employees that are wonderful in there too! You honestly can't find a better store in town. They care about their customers, because it's not just their store, this store belongs to the People of Mt Shasta. They all care about the locals, and are more than happy to give directions to the out of town folks. They all help you, not only find an item, they'll take it to it, and if they don't carry it, you can bet they will try their best to get it ordered for you. The prices are lower than other stores around. It's always clean and stocked. You will almost definitely leave with a smile every time. read more
