A few interesting facts: - They rescue neglected/abused animals including dogs, cats, potbellied pigs, and more. - Their operating costs are $25k + monthly - Must make an appointment for a visit or group tour - Some of the rescues they take in are animals that were previously used for racing, fighting, etc. Some of the cats & dogs came from animal hoarders. You will find that a visit to the farm is very humbling. For many of us, it's out of sight, out of mind when it comes to animal cruelty. We just don't think about it on a daily basis but when you visit the farm & hear the stories & see firsthand the effects of what these animals have been through, it can be life changing. Overall, a wonderful place to bring a group of kids, adults or just gather some friends for a fun & enlightening afternoon.

The worst part of this place is the owner, she is rude and disrespectful and will talk about you to other parents. How ignorant is that. All the teachers there have their kids attending. One time my kid got hit multiple times by the owners kid and we had to find out from another kid that attended there. They will not write up their kids. They are closed on almost every single holiday including mlk day, halloween, memorial day. Etc. There is almost nothing closed on those days unless you have a job for the goverment or city or bank job. They also charge the same or more then anyone in town and honestly you'd be spending your money better anywhere else.

My participation in educational events at Claymont has been consistently positive and often…read moreenlightening. That doesn't mean it was ever "easy." Since 1977 I have attended long term and short terms events including one year long "course." Never did anyone on staff or faculty OFFER me mind altering, psychotropic, or mood altering substances. And never was there even a hint of anyone being mistreated. When participants with serious mental or emotional problems were present, they received solicitous care from qualified staff many of whom were former pupils of Bennett who studied with many masters of wisdom who also knew Mr. Gurdjieff and studied with him as well. Claymont is a magnificent mansion and grounds situated on hundreds of acres with various types of living quarter options. In the 1970's, neither JG Bennett, founder, nor Pierre Elliot, principal, recommended psychotropic substances to alter anyone's perception. In fact, just the opposite - students were taught to be present, to observe themselves/their surroundings clear eyed and with dignity, and we all followed a structured, balanced routine which included customary three meals a day at set times. Staff were attentive and appropriate taking care to set respectful boundaries and to nurture the well being of everyone around them. In the 1970's there was no staff "they" DISPENSING drugs or alcohol to adult students and their families. What students may have done with each other privately when not at a scheduled activity is another matter entirely. Claymont did not employ a school nurse or doctor or dentist. Students received all medical services off site from medical providers in surrounding towns. However, some of the students were acupuncturists, naturopaths, homeopaths, nutritional experts, bio energetic gardening experts, or skilled in the arts of herbal and natural healing techniques. They shared their from time to time with their fellow students in a shared community. Today, Claymont Court is a place, an opportunity, a venue where one can attend seminars and events. The school itself, once present in the 1970's, has long since been disbanded. Claymont is a safe and supportive environment in which consenting adults may engage in self growth and self development activities.Those who live today on Claymont property do not staff a school. They staff a center open for scheduling events held by outside organizations who rent the venue for short periods of time. The negative incident stated here may have happened, but it would have been a "private" situation in the sense that all human beings have free will to engage in varied types of social interaction. Anyone with serious mental illness suffers from thinking distortions and mental anomalies which are often inexplicable and also often result in they themselves misunderstanding or misinterpreting the meaning of events in which they participate. Please take this under consideration when evaluating whether or not to visit Claymont Court events in West Virginia.

Last weekend - a friend and I were driving down U.S. 15 South towards Haymarket - when suddenly a…read moreblur appeared in front of us - and we heard a loud thump. Something had flown in front of my truck. A few minutes later, we arrived at my house, and got out to inspect the front of my truck - imagine my surprise when I found a Red Shouldered Hawk embedded in my truck grill. The Hawk was still alive - so we snagged some thick leather gloves and carefully extracted it from the grill. We attempted to release the Hawk into the woods - but it would not fly. So I called the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center - it was late on a Sunday, so I was unsure if anyone would answer the phone. Sure enough - someone did. I recounted the situation - they instructed me to carefully place the Hawk in a box or laundry basket - with some towels or blankets over the Hawk to keep it warm and quiet. We retrieved the Hawk after some difficulty, it had landed in an area with a lot of briars and thorn bushes. I then cruised out to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center facility in Boyce, VA - about a 40 minute drive from where I live. I checked the Hawk in with them, made a $50 donation to them (they are a 501(c)(3) non profit organization - and so need the support they get from donations). I was relieved that the Hawk at least now had a chance - as it was in the best possible hands. I called the next afternoon to check on the Hawk - sadly, it's injuries were to severe - and they could not save the Hawk, Still, I appreciate all that they do! This place is very beautiful and is a retiree's paradise. They have three places to get food, many activities and there are plenty of different apartments to choose from. The price is reasonable (a bit high but better than closer to Fairfax). The nicest thing about it is that you can go from independent care to assisted living without paying any more money (you pay for it up front and your allotted food money gets lower); allowing for a more worry-free living. If you (or someone you know) is looking for a place like this, I suggest reserving a tour for this place. You can wait list yourself many years in advance of retiring as well or becoming of age to be enrolled (you must be 64 in order to be enrolled - there trying to move it to 60 though, however). There is a grocery store close by (Martin's) as well as a Wal-Mart in which case they have shuttle service once a week.

My Grandmother has lived here for about a year. I live just a couple miles away and visit her…read morefrequently. We regularly have dinner or lunch here with her. So, I've spent a good amount of time here. I can say that it is the best place that she has lived since leaving her house. They have lots of activities and get her to her doctor appointments any day/time that she schedules them. They have good food, a pool, gym, library, theater, conference rooms, and other features that give my grandmother plenty to do. I particularly enjoy the wooded trails that surround the complex. The proximity to the hospital and numerous doctor's offices is also a big plus. Having been through a number of assisted living places in the past, I would say that this one is of very high caliber.
