Snacks were not included despite being mention on the online booking. Parking was easy. The campsite we parked by also had tables we sat afterwards. Being on the water was amazing. We loved floating and enjoyed the breeze, water and views. They bus you back to the original location after. Don't forget to bring rope to tie your tubes together!

The camp host was very active throughout the day and gave great local recommendations. Negatives - you can't really see the river due to the grass and trees. It also says you can fish, which you can as long as you can make it down an incredibly steep embankment but there was not really a place to stand comfortably to fish and at least at site 5 there are quite a bit of rocks in the way. There was also a ton of little moths and gnats. Even with a fire the bugs made it unbearable to enjoy our time. Setting up and packing up was horrible. We understand bugs exist in nature but they were flying in our hair, mouth, nose, nothing worked to get rid of them. Also, the camp sites are just yards from a somewhat busy road. A few times people drove by and purposefully rev'd their engines. We could also hear a train in the distance going in the middle of the night. Maybe a different time of year would make all the difference regarding the annoying bugs but may is not it.

My child is indeed within the age range specified for her camp. She responded by telling me the following: I believe we may not be able to provide the experience you are looking for. I suggest perhaps waiting a year or two until your daughter is more able to be independent .... If she is not able to provide accomodations along the lines of her own legal terms and condition, she should say so (or talk to her lawyer to change what she had referred to as "legal stuff", as if that's beyond her responsibility), rather than hide behind my child, suggesting that she is not independent or mature enough for her age. Mind you, she has never met my child. I expected more professionalism. Additionally, unless you sign up on-line, she asks for payment first before providing the terms and conditions and the forms. I had wanted to write a check instead of using the website. Her focus was mainly the money and just wanted me to mail the check, which I found to be shady. I had to actually ask her how she would get the info for the registrant. She mentioned she'd provide forms only after she received the check, but beware, there are no refunds after payment, so the whole process didn't make any sense to me. She also would not allow me to come by the camp to drop off the check and bring my child to see if she might be comfortable with the horses. Rather, she suggested I sign up for a shorter camp. I understand that's her perrogative, but it's a strange way to run a business, especially one that involves horses, which do carry some innate risks, and children. I'd want to see the place before dropping my child off. I had spoken to her on the phone before I had emailed her about the above, and I did not have a good impression. I could not finish a single sentence. She kept interrupting and talking over me halfway through every. single. sentence. She sounded young and immature though she might have been older. I wasn't surprised when I received her email response basically refusing a good customer.

I feel the price is a bit high as the amenities offered are the same as the regular cabins ($80-$85 per night). The firefly did just recently add a window AC unit and one electric plug prior to our stay. There are no lights so a lantern is still needed. We didn't use the charcoal grill as it was rusted, we opted for cooking on the fire instead. They do not allow outside firewood and they charge $7 a bag for wood and $5 for kindling. Unfortunately their firewood was very thinly chopped, maybe 1-2 inch slivers so the firewood didn't last long. The shower and bathrooms were clean and close to the campsite which we enjoyed. The area felt very safe. Though there appeared to be a ring camera with lights just above the open showers which I found a bit odd, I assume it was pointing to the other side of the building. Easily accessible dumpster and water for cooking/washing dishes. Parking is very hard to come by so if you bring more than one vehicle this may be a problem. The cabin was well kept, clean and comfy mattresses. Lights didn't work on the upper balcony but we enjoyed the lower deck. The only thing I found off putting were over kill on signage around the campsite. Quiet hours with a $250 fine for noises past 11pm or before 7am, signs regarding usage of amenities .... It appeared they didn't really want you using too many resources. Overall, we really enjoyed the cabin, the addition of the AC was great, facility was well kept, but I felt it was over priced.

Yes, please. Sign me up. Inner Quest is an awesome little adventure-learning company based out of Purcellville, but with various sites and programs around the Virginia/West Virginia/Maryland area. Their challenge course at Madeira is huge and elaborate, encompassing several acres in the woods. Elements range from freakishly hard to anxiety-inducing heights to deceptively simple team-building. This was my second time undertaking the Madeira challenge course with Inner Quest: the first was 17 years ago as a scared-witless high school freshman. We'd moved from Texas that summer, and I was friendless since school hadn't started yet. Ma O. thought an Inner Quest program would be a great way for me to make friends. A random group of 12 of us spent a day on the challenge course, and the next 5 days hiking the Appalachian Trail in VA and MD, schlepping our packs, pitching our tents, cooking our food, and digging our own latrines. Ma O. was right: Inner Quest *was* a great way to make friends. Nothing bonds you quicker than mole-skinning blisters and burying your TP with strangers. I still remember our counselors, too -- unkempt adventurers with the nicest, most soothing, and helpfully instructive demeanors. Today's counselors were equally patient and kind with our kiddos. Our guys enjoyed themselves tremendously at Inner Quest, as did the adults (hello, zipline, I feel like a kid again!). Teamwork, pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, taking calculated risks, trusting others -- these are life lessons you just can't teach in the classroom.

When I requested to cancel due to their false representations, I was told there were no refunds simply because I had already signed--despite the agreement being based on misleading information. This business pressures clients into contracts, takes large upfront payments, and only then reveals the true costs. HORRIBLE
