Once you walk in the room, you get deja vu of your grandmas house. It looks old, smells old (actually a little moldy or like mothballs), and pieces of appliances are falling apart (see photos). I was afraid to leave my very tiny dog (3 lbs) in the bathroom for us to go grab food because the electrical box (not sure of the exact name but it's where the electrical sockets are) was falling off the wall. If I'm afraid to leave my dog alone around it, it would be a huge problem if an infant happened to crawl up to it... Also, the appliance that you flip to drain water from the bathtub didn't fit properly and there was a 1 inch hole- perfect for tiny fingers to get stuck in. I was shocked by the lack of upkeep at a beautiful place like Callaway Gardens. It is a shame because it is otherwise such a lovely place to be. read more

This place is closer to a motel 6 - I will never stay here again. Early check in is not at 3 Pm. This place smells like old socks and I'm pretty certain there is mold in the ceilings. I would definitely NOT recommend this motel nasty. We were moved twice to rooms that the toilets were not working and the customer service representative that evening Shea was less than hospitable asking (after being moved two times at 8 pm) "What do you want?!" Service is less than helpful. Never returning here again. Many changes are needed. Maybe a bulldozer. read more

Don't let the older reviews scare you. The rooms have all been upgraded in Spring 2013 and are very nice. They have comfortable beds with nice linens, clean carpet, good airconditioning. The bathroom was gleaming white, with good water pressure and rain showerhead. They include soap, lotion, and a shampoo. The inroom coffee is Keurig. Open closet space. Free Wi-fi worked good, flatscreen TV. Really enjoyed the room, which is why I gave a high rating. The food was pretty awful though and the rest of the resort was not as upgraded. Dining rooms felt like a retirement home. The seafood buffet on Friday night was good. Breakfast buffet was not very good and scrambled eggs were runny. Dinner in the Vineyard was also pretty gross, oily pasta and chili was like dog food. So give it a miss if you can. The location was superb for checking out the gardens. Well...... I want to start by saying this is a true inn, all rooms are entered from the outside no elevator and stair every 20 rooms approx. From the outside and inside lobby you can tell this place has been here for awhile it's dated but the rooms have just under gone a much needed face lift. We came for a two night, three day getaway durning the spring azalea bloom at Callaway Gardens. We were upgraded for free to a garden view room, sweet!! Positives: The rooms are spacious, clean, new flat screen TV's, new furniture, fresh paint, rustic head boards on bed. Great view in garden view rooms. Huge well maintained grassy area on property perfect picnic spot, kite flying, let kids blow off energy they can run until their hearts are content. Negatives: balcony not private, semi private at best small opens allow people (kids) to pass from balcony to balcony. Bathrooms are clean and most fixtures are new but it looks they tried to refinish the shower tub combo, still very dated looking. The Restaurant - Vineyard Green Lounge in the lobby is OK at best, service lacks a bit. Staff seemed very slow had to ask for more tea, and for my debit card to be ran at the end of the meal. read more

In response to my initial review, Callaway Gardens did send me an email response. They acknowledged that some guests who book online via 3rd party sites are not necessarily getting placed in the expected accommodations. The issue (according to the email) is with their inter-working with the 3rd party sites (in terms of what room descriptions / photos can be presented, etc.). I appreciated their response. While I can sympathize with apparent technical issues, those should be solve-able. Doing so should certainly help with customer satisfaction among those booking this way. read more

The hotel staff was nice and accommodating although they did tell us to go over to the wrong hotel. Once we got back to Mountain Creek Inn and got our keys, we got up to our room and were a little disappointed. The room was out dated and had a "stench." One of the pillows smelled of cologne. And The lamp on the nightstand kept going out which was a little annoying. Luckily, we were only staying for one night, if we decide to see the Festival of Lights next year I think we'll stay else where. read more

Being as how "party barns" are a hot item with the country folks these days, one would think it would be fun to have Thanksgiving dinner in one. Well, maybe if it was an actual party barn. The MCI served tasteless dishes in the (very much not so grand) ballroom. Three Christmas trees and too-early "manger" music do not help poor food. Nothing had any taste. This was just a complete fail. The atmosphere was more like a horse barn than a party barn. Food: awful. Ambience: austere. It is probably what Thanksgiving is like in, well, I don't know. Let's be honest. I chose the Mountain Creek Inn based on price - it's the least expensive option at Callaway. So I wasn't expecting the Ritz. The building is older - it's motel style, as all the entrances to the rooms are on the outside. Once you get in, the rooms feel much newer than the actual building exterior - probably thanks to a good interior renovation job. Our room had a nice lake view and a small balcony as well. The interior was pretty standard. The room FELT clean, but the sheets were verrry questionable (questionable enough for us to need to call the front desk to get new ones. . .). I'll leave that story at that. Overall, the room suited its purpose, and we weren't in there for very long, but exploring Callaway and Pine Mountain. Straight-up hotel-star-wise, I would give this three stars - it may seem pricey for what you're getting, but it's much cheaper than some of the other lodging options around. read more

Me don't likey very much at all. I ended up staying here for a conference. I booked my hotel last minute and the five star hotel the conference was at was booked. My colleaugue and I got stuck here. The air conditioner is so loud it wil keep you up at night and the rooms have a funny smell. Everything is very old and out dated and I felt the need to walk around with my flip flops on inside the room. I am not the type of person that is overly concerned with germs but this place makes you want to keep spraying hand sanitizer. We wanted to visit Callaway Gardens for the Hot Air Balloon Festival over Labor Day, but didn't want to go if the weather was bad. Written policies made it sound like we would lose our money if we didn't cancel three days out. Consequently, we booked at the last minute after package deals had sold out and chose a King room with Garden View for $159. During booking we found out that cancellation would result in a credit good for up to a year, something not made clear on the website. The website said all rooms were refurbished in 2013. It's important to pay attention to language. My mind thought "new." Upon check-in and getting to our room, it had a rustic feel and definitely still felt like an older hotel with a 1950's vibe. Many furnishings were just older furniture that had been given a new coat of paint. The bathroom floor, sink and toilet were new, but the tub was shocking - old, faded color that had turned grey with a big chip of porcelain missing from one corner, bordering on disgusting. Thin walls and neighbors who stayed up late talking and listening to the radio combined to make it feel like they were sitting on the edge of our bed. And to top it off, the smoke alarm went off around 6am. It took 30 minutes before maintenance showed up and changed the battery. We did not get a good night's sleep. And if I'm going to nitpick, one of my pet peeves is bedside clocks that are wrong. Ours was off by 40 minutes. That should be on every housekeeper's checklist, to check the clock and know how to reset it. And unlike newer hotels, there's a lack of outlet/plugs for devices. I suspect that's why the clock was wrong. It got unplugged so the outlet could be used for a cell phone or laptop. And Garden View, especially at Callaway Gardens, implies something more than a swath of crabgrass studded lawn fronted by a highway with a few holes of a golf course and a lake in the distance. Neither the lush Great lawn nor scenic view they describe. By no stretch of the imagination would I have ever thought this would qualify as a garden view. And the patio was nothing more than a continuous slab of concrete barely the width of a sidewalk. Empty soda bottles and dirty cups had been left on the table on our patio. A bit disappointing and it certainly didn't meet the expectations of a $159 room. The only saving grace is that garden admission is included in the price, a jacked up $30 per person, per day for the holiday weekend. There's also a rather ungenerous 4pm check-in time and 11am check-out time, somewhat off the industry standards of 3pm and noon. Which partly explains the outrageously long lines to check in at 4pm. For the price, I'd be hard pressed to stay at the Mountain Creek Inn again. read more

I was a little unsure at first but went ahead and book..this is not your normal "inn". When we arrived in the room it was clean and no concerns. Me being me I cleaned it my way but it was not dirty. The ice machine was convenient, pool area was clean as well as the pool. The pool area had a radio and towels available for guest. We eat on site at the Vineyard the food was good. This was a group event nightmare!! Rooms do not look like photos on their website!! We reserved 12 rooms for a couples retreat that were infested with mold, roaches and other unidentifiable BUGS!! The smell when you walk into lobby is disgusting!! It was a humiliating experience that left my own company brand questionable. Management was aware of infestation and unsanitary practices and did not even apologize!! In fact, the meeting room for our even had a refrigerator that once we open the door the stench was unbearable!!! Keep the blinds shut or Mr. Peepers might come lurking. I wish this place would enact a total smoking ban. At least corral all the smokers to a assigned area. The walkways become filled with aroma of pall malls and dying lungs because all the smokers want to congregate and kill themselves. I hit the fitness center, it didnt get the renovation the rooms received. The treadmill didnt work and there was a pitiful stationary bike. It takes a lot of motivation just to get my fat butt into the gym, much of that motivation was lost as I quickly banged out a few reps. Some other dude walked in, took a look around and just left. We stayed one night at the Mountain Creek Inn for a short get-away on our 38th anniversary. The hotel from the outside looks a little old but the rooms inside were clean and had plenty of room. The package included breakfast at The Plant Room and entrance to the Callaway Gardens. The breakfast was buffet style and very good. We visited the Butterfly House and drove and walked around the beautiful gardens. This was a wonderful weekend. We ate supper at the Cricket Restaurant on Hwy 354 and it was wonderful, great food and service. We ate the Ribeye and it was prefectly cooked. read more

Where do I begin?? The level of accommodations here versus the Lodge and Spa are in opposite directions. For first time visitors don't even consider the Mountain Inn, it is like a Motel 6. There is NO elevator to the second floor and all the rooms open to the outside so the tiny crawling critters can come right under the door. Our room had a door malfunction. We used two different keys which we had to travel up and down the stairs to he front desk. Then finally the facilities person had to come to assist. We spent the night in a room that we could not open the door from the inside. Luckily out adjoining room was people we were traveling with and we could get out through their room. FIRE HAZARD!! We paid for a fridge in our room but it never cool enough to keep the baby's milk cold. By the Way- we were here for a business meeting. Our parties were place all over and the conference/meeting center was a distance that required hiking or driving your car to the location. The good of this experience was the food and the wait staff. We stayed at Callaway Gardens during the Going Geocaching 2016 event. Upon check-in we were greeted warmly, were told about the hotel and the gardens; we were made to feel right at home. A big perk of staying here is free admission to the Gardens--a must-see!--for every day at the hotel; admission is $20 a day. The rooms were comfortable, albeit a bit dated. The mattresses in both of our rooms were sagging somewhat and although not horribly so, did disrupt sleep a bit. And I was surprised at the lack of a refrigerator; being diabetic and on insulin I found it frustrating to depend on an ice bucket to keep my medication cold. As a return guest I was excited to visit Callaway Gardens for the new year and booked a 3 night stay. I woke up morning 1 to the roof of my hotel room substantially leaking. Loud enough to wake me. I immediately contacted the front desk, it took over an hour to get a maintenance man out who walked in the room and said "Whoa" as he saw the leak. He said he had to get a "patch kit and would return. After waiting another 45 mins I called the desk again to ask for a new room, I was transferred then when I called back they picked up the phone and immediately placed me on hold several times. Obviously all hotels can see which room is calling and I was purposefully being ignored. The man who checked me in the night before finally very professionally answered saying he had just arrived and would let the manager know about the situation. She was on break. 20 mins later still waiting. The worst service I've ever experienced at a hotel. Hands down. read more

Never been to callaway gardens and I wanted to do the Christmas lights display. I went on to callaway gardens website to book my stay. I thought I was booking a room at the lodge. Come to find out when I checked in we were at the mountain creek inn. So right off the bat I was disappointed. When we got to our room I was even more disappointed. This room cost us $250 and it was a room I would maybe pay $50 for. The place is extremely dated. And not at all what I was expecting. We did the awful light show and then decided to just drive back home. We didn't even stay the night. Whole trip sucked and I would not recommend this place or callaway gardens to anyone. read more

We stayed over Thanksgiving. I have never stayed in a place where paint was peeling off the bathroom door, and the previous patron's soap was still left in the shower. The walls are SO VERY THIN that we could hear entire conversations next door, unfortunately way later than we wanted to stay awake. We have stayed here several times in the past years. The place is quaint and well worn but up kept and good beds. The staff is always pleasant. This time we stayed in A suite room that was located on the very top floor called the roof. Our room was not ready at 4 PM we had to wait an additional 20 minutes before we could get the key. When we entered the room it was spacious and with comfy comfy furniture.It had a large back porch and a dining room. Upon inspecting the cleanliness I found dog hair on the tables chairs and outside on the porch dog hair in clumps and I'm sure it must've been on the floor also. I called the front desk to have them come up and sweep the porch and vacuum which they did. But they did not have a vacuum cleaner available to vacuum the chairs. The two cleaning ladies were very nice but was not able to get the room as clean as it should've been because of the pet hair. The toilet seat also looked like it had been half cleaned so they cleaned that. Upon checking out I told them the problem and also I saw a roach they did give me half off of my night stay. The room was quiet and spacious the only issue was cleanliness and pet smell/hair. read more

My wife and I met some friends for the weekend in Callaway Gardens and stayed at Mountain Creek Inn. Callaway Gardens is great. We have been many times but never here. It is extremely dated and in need of major renovations. The continental breakfast was pretty sparse. It is a pet friendly hotel which is fine, except we were awakened early both mornings by barking dogs. It was very annoying. Love Callaway Gardens, but we will avoid this hotel if possible. read more

Our first dissappointment on checking in was realizing that we had paid for the Callaway Gardens name, but received Motel 6 accommodations instead. This is a motel folks, and they are half price right down the road. The night we stayed the power went out at 9pm. The whole place was pitch black. No emergency lighting, nothing. So we had to brush our teeth by the light of a cellphone and go to bed way earlier than we would have chosen. A few hours later the power came back on and woke us up. The next day when we complained we were told that someone had crashed their car into a power pole. Not their fault, to be sure, but how can you run a hotel (motel) this big (probably 100+ rooms) and have NO backup generator? Their answer was, " well this doesn't happen very often". For $150 a night they should be doing much better. They could have given us a free breakfast to make up for it (yes, breakfast is extra) but they didn't. When checking in it took longer than it should have because our reservation had magically been cancelled. The 2 room cottage was nice and comforable, and I was suprised how quiet it was considering the other cottages were pretty close. Horrible Experience with the Vineyard Green Lounge!!!! Our party of six was seated at a table for five and the lady said "oh, you need another chair. I'll be right back" 5 minutes later someone in our party is still standing. So, we grab a chair from an empty table. Then, we waited a long while to get our food and out of 6 dishes, 5 had issues. Cold fries, missing sauces, missing dressing, cold Monte Cristo, missing kids drinks and fruit, sauce on the food when ordered on the side, room temp pasta. Then, there was no server that ever came back to the table. I had to get up and find someone that looked like they were in charge, and their solution was "I will get you more fries". Horrible, Horrible! Don't waste money at this Restaurant inside the Mountain Creek Inn. Side note: We also ate at the Discovery Cafe inside the park the next day and the food was wonderful. read more

nice breakfast edit: My mom randomly decided she wanted to go see the Callaway Lights for Christmas so we drove down here and had the breakfast buffet at this hotel the morning we left. The hotel is on the same road as the lights, about half a mile down, and has all the standard breakfast foods, pleasantly surprised to find local Atlanta organic yoghurt (fancy!), fruit such as pineapple and cantaloupe, and they had a omelette bar, but I didn't want to wait in line. This is in like the DEEP SOUTH, so prepare. LOL. I also ordered coffee and orange juice and the service was good as well. Some other nearby amusements besides Callaway, golf, etc. is amazing seafood! Seriously, and the petting zoo! OMG, it's so cool, you can ride a bus through a safari and pet giraffes and such. read more

Items were stolen from my room by housekeeping while I was here for a conference. No one including the manager has seemed to care in the least. I was informed that security would contact me within an hour of my report and they never did. After four hours of waiting I asked again and the reply was, "oh yeah we couldn't find the stuff so you will just get reimbursed for whatever was taken." I would never recommend that anyone stay here and I will certainly never be back. I'm literally having to file a police report because no one at the hotel will help me. read more

It's a 100+ a night and def not worth it. Each time either of us moved the whole bed shook. Also the air conditioner is soooo loud. Even with earplugs in sounded like a jet landing. The staff is lovely and the food we ate at piedmonts in the newer Eco spa was really good. Id recommend staying nearby and visiting not in summer or staying in the room by yourself. Stayed 3 nights mid-week. Having a courtyard room sounded like a great idea but with no inner/sheer curtains to provide privacy, I had to keep my curtains shut at all times and that made my room dark and gloomy. The bed was super comfortable and because there were 2 queen beds, I got ALL of the pillows. Bathroom was quite small but the shower had decent water pressure and that's always a win. Totally minor point, but I hate when they only have paper style cups in the room--I'd even take something like a Solo Cup. I wouldn't have chosen this place on my own--it is just too far from anything I am interested in doing. read more

Although we stayed at the cottages this year, we were disappointed at the food at the Inn. (The restaurant has been renamed.) Our nachos consisted of canned Hormel chili and a glob of canned guacamole and sour cream. No one finished their food. It's overpriced and not resort quality. We also ate at the Country Kitchen for breakfast. It took 50 minutes to get one omelet, 3 pancakes, one order of grits and a fruit cup. What a waste. Callaway Gardens are great, and this is certainly a reasonable place to stay, but it's not very attractive. It's pretty old, and looks that way. The rooms are spacious, though, for the price, including two room suites. There was urine on our toilet seat when we got there, but they promptly cleaned it when we asked. This hotel was really old, the rooms were very small, and absolutely NO soundproofing between rooms - we could hear every word of the couple and their lovely screaming child ! And BEWARE if you book with expedia they will still charge you additional "resort fee" of $16.20 on the credit card that you have to provide upon checkin. RIP OFF during the holidays!! read more
