I rarely leave reviews, but after spending nearly $1,500 for just a two-night stay, I feel obligated to warn other families before they spend their money here. To be fair, I'll start with the positive. The two-bedroom cottage was excellent. It was clean, spacious, comfortable, and exactly what we expected. If I had rented the cottage by itself and nothing else, I would have been completely satisfied. Unfortunately, everything else about our stay was one disappointment after another. I booked our stay because the cottage package advertised a complimentary four-seat golf cart. An almost $800 deposit was charged immediately, but I never received a confirmation email. After calling the resort, I eventually received one, but it only listed a two-bedroom cottage. It did not mention the golf cart, the five Explorer Passes I had already purchased, or provide an itemized breakdown of my reservation. During checkout, I also purchased five Explorer Passes because the booking process stated that guests purchasing them with their reservation would receive unlimited access throughout their stay, unlike single-day passes purchased separately. Problems started the moment we arrived. The main entrance was closed with no signs directing guests to after-hours check-in. After driving around the property, we finally found someone who directed us to the Lodge. At check-in, I was told to pick up my golf cart outside. Instead, I was told I didn't have one. Staff insisted it wasn't included with my reservation. Since my confirmation email contained almost no details, I had nothing to show them. Rather than argue and ruin our first night, I paid an additional $200 to rent a six-seat golf cart. The next morning we picked it up, only to discover it had less than half a tank of gas, faulty brake lights, a broken turn signal that became extremely hot, and so little power that three of the six people riding had to get out and push it up the hill leading to the cottages. When we picked up our Explorer Passes, I was asked for a QR code that was never emailed to me. After printing my passes, I also purchased one for my father. I then learned the Explorer Passes did not provide unlimited access as presented during booking. Instead, each activity could only be done once. The biggest disappointment was the inflatable water obstacle course. It was the main reason we purchased the Explorer Passes, only to be told it was closed until 1:00 p.m. the following day for cleaning. We checked out at 11:00 a.m. Had we known it would be unavailable during our stay, we never would have purchased the passes. Even more frustrating, we never saw anyone cleaning it. The lifeguards were sitting on it, talking, and diving off it while guests were told it was closed. For dinner, we chose the Piedmont Dining Room because the resort website listed prime rib. When we arrived, it wasn't on the menu. The ribeye was excellent, and our waitress was phenomenal, but it was another example of the website not matching reality. Later that evening my husband asked to exchange our defective golf cart. The employee looked up our cart number and immediately said, "Oh...you have #35. That's the broken one." That statement perfectly summarized our experience. Callaway Gardens is undeniably beautiful, and the cottages are wonderful. But beautiful scenery doesn't justify spending nearly $1,500 for two nights when the amenities you planned your vacation around either aren't available, don't match what was presented during booking, or are known to be defective. Between the reservation confusion, paying an extra $200 for a golf cart, missing confirmation details, never receiving required QR codes, Explorer Passes that didn't match how they were presented, the resort's signature attraction being closed during our stay, and outdated information on the website, this vacation became a series of frustrations instead of the relaxing family getaway we planned. I cannot recommend Callaway Gardens based on our experience. read more

Rating it a 3 from a cost/benefit ratio. Let me start with...we are big fans of Callaway Gardens. We traveled from Augusta and this was probably our 4th time visiting, albeit the last time was probably 7 years ago. We stayed 2 nights (Tues - Thurs) Our 1st floor room had a moldy, musty smell. Not until my wife took her shoes off did we realize the carpet under the bed and in the middle of the otherwise tiled floor was very wet. It was raining outside so not sure where the water came from. When we went to the front desk, they gave us another room. Spa - we did a couples 80 min massage. Very nice!! Very Pricey though at $600 plus. Dinner at Cason's attached to the hotel. We both had the fish n chips which were worth the price. Brian provided excellent service. 1st Breakfast we went to the off-campus restaurant (Country Kitchen) which was good food, good service and nice views. I'd recommend this place every day of your stay. We drove to & rented bikes at the discovery center and rode throughout the gardens. We knew there was bike rentals at Robin Lake which we could've walked to... but a staff member at the hotel said they were closed. Very nice! Enjoyed a drink at the Robin Lake bar overlooking the beach. Very nice!! Love the grounds although you can tell some of the buildings are in need of TLC. We swam in the pool and used the hot tubs. Kudos b/c the hot tub's actually worked! But the pool had tons of dead bugs floating in the water around the 4 of us using it and probably 8-10 dead roaches around the pool's borders. The resort manager and his assistant came out to correct some blown over umbrellas but no one else came to address the dead insects. Dinner at Piedmont- wife ordered the salmon and I got a bad feeling... like I was in a cafeteria and didn't want to risk the cost of the filet mignon ($50) in that setting so I just got a salad with cut-up chicken breast. Salmon tasted fishy and was nothing to write home about. My chicken had grill marks that looked like they were not made at the Piedmont and appeared to be pressed chicken vs an actual breast. We were offered free dessert b/c it was a special day for us but the dessert was under-whelming and looked like it had just come out of a package too. A very disappointing experience... especially since we remembered the upscale restaurant Callaway used to have over by the golf course (now closed). Piedmont definitely has a cafeteria feel... with booths, young kids and baby noises abound. Definitely not resort level!! We did visit the 24/7 gym and found it to be a very nice gym with both free weights and machines. 2d breakfast - we ate at the Piedmont for convenience since we were checking out that morning. Again, cafeteria feelings!! Booths, kids, lots of noises, service was slow and we waited for the bill way too long. And here's the thing... it wasn't busy at all!! Hardly anyone in the restaurants or in the hotel. And a nice African-American couple we met at the pool said their bed was uncomfortable so they asked for another room but the front desk said they were booked and couldn't move them?!? You gotta be kidding! There was no way the resort was booked. It was a ghost town. They left the same day we did. And we didn't golf but we do golf and we could tell by our bike ride around the course that the greens were not kept up. They were yellowish when the grass around them was green (it was a very rainy week beforehand so it wasn't for lack of water) and a couple greens were littered with what looked like duck poop. Overall, we're concerned for the resort financially. It appears that they're building more homes in Callaway which we hope they get a lot more money from... to make needed facility improvements and to create a fine-dining option with a chef who takes pride in his dishes. We spent $2000+ for 2 nights b/c we were celebrating 34 yrs of marriage and fondly remembered it used to have a resort feel (7 years ago). We left there thinking "what a waste of money" because we certainly didn't feel like we were at a resort while we were there. If it weren't for the beautiful grounds... we'd never go back but...because of that restful feeling you get from the nature there... we may give them another shot. read more

Came here to see gardens and butterfly center. I'll start with the amazing staff at gate. Super friendly and informative. There wasn't anyone behind us so she really took her time explaining stuff there. We have come for the Christmas and Halloween lights before but never for gardens. We went to gardens the chapel and the butterfly center. We don't have much time but there really is a lot to do here. It is like 25 per person so I definitely recommend getting there early and making a day of it. Bring lunch and have a picnic. Visit gardens butterflies and chapel as well as the raptor center. Take a hike and relax at the beach. You really can make a whole day there and with all you can do 25 isn't bad. read more

Overall, we've enjoyed our visits to Callaway Resort and Gardens. The property is beautiful, with a wide variety of activities for guests. The beach area was well-maintained and relaxing, and we appreciated the convenience of the nearby bar. The pool, while functional, could benefit from some updates, but it served its purpose on hot days. One of the highlights of our visit was the butterfly pavilion--my husband had the chance to hold an atlas moth, and Katie was fantastic in sharing interesting and engaging facts with us. Most of the staff members we encountered were friendly and attentive, and we want to especially recognize a few individuals who made our experience more enjoyable. At Champion's Grille, our server Jennifer went above and beyond--she was friendly, attentive, and even took the time to get our contact information in hopes of finding the source of a pepper sauce my husband really enjoyed during a previous visit. The food at Champion's is typical bar fare; my husband thoroughly enjoyed the wings, while my chicken wrap was just average, featuring what seemed like processed chicken. At Cason's Tap Room, we also received excellent service from our server, Brian. He was courteous and attentive throughout our meal. The food, however, was underwhelming. My husband had the crab cake sandwich, and I ordered a flatbread with chicken, goat cheese, and caramelized onions. While the crust was very good, the chicken again tasted processed, similar to my meal at Champion's. Unfortunately, our experience at the Piedmont Dining Room--the resort's high-end dining option--was very disappointing. The hostess was neither welcoming nor professional, and our server was inattentive, never returning after delivering our food. My husband ordered a center-cut filet medium rare, which was served well done, and my chicken was overcooked and dry. Given the price point, we expected a significantly higher level of quality and service. We feel the food quality across the resort's dining venues needs improvement, particularly at the Piedmont Dining Room, which should reflect the caliber of the resort. Additionally, when my husband called the Director of Operations, Cedric Stanford, to both recognize the employees who provided excellent service and to share our concerns about the dining experience at the Piedmont, he was met with a dismissive and unhelpful response, which was disappointing. We continue to visit Callaway every other year for a conference and genuinely hope to see improvements to the food and service in the future. Worst experience we've had here, and we've been members for years. This will be our first year not renewing. Most of the things we've always come for this time of year were closed, even on a beautiful day. When I asked about it, I was told "it's always been this way, same as every year," which is simply not true based on our past visits. We tried to salvage the day, but the remaining activities were underwhelming to say the least. It no longer feels like a family friendly place. Golf Weekend Summary A group of us traveled from Michigan for a long weekend of golf at the resort. The trip had some bright spots, but the golf experience--which was the main purpose of the visit--fell short. Pros Cottages: Quiet, comfortable, and ideal for four people. The screened‑in deck was perfect for morning coffee. Piedmont Breakfast: Attentive staff and a pleasant start to the day. Mountain Course Layout: Scenic and well‑designed. Cons Course Conditions: Both the Lake and Mountain courses were in noticeably poor shape for a resort, especially the greens. Golf Restaurant Service: Slow and inattentive at the Lake Course clubhouse; waited 15 minutes before being acknowledged and received food just minutes before our tee time (over 60 minutes). Food & Beverage Availability: No beverage cart or halfway house on an 85‑degree day; long waits for simple items like a hot dog at the turn. Cason Bar/Outdoor Restaurant: Service did not match the rest of the resort environment. Additional Notes Only one day we had to experience most non‑golf amenities, it was raining and cold, though the appearance of the hotel, pool/bar and beach were well maintained. Overall Impression Several employees mentioned that management has invested heavily in infrastructure but not in the golf facilities, and that was evident. The layouts are excellent and could make this a standout golf destination again, but the current conditions and food service undermine the experience. Day Butterfly Center, Robin Lake Beach, horticultural center, and seasonal activities that will undoubtedly commune you with Mother Nature at her best. Callaway Resort & Gardens is genuinely a haven of natural beauty and recreation coupled with environmental consciousness. It should top the list of must-visit places when in town. We really enjoyed spending the whole day here. Another thing I particularly appreciate is beside the sculpture of Virginia Callaway stands her dog, Rex 'Muddynose' (as I am a profound dog lover and share the name with our late pup who has crossed the rainbow bridge), along with the story behind the Plumleaf Azalea in her right hand. Have had no power in our (very expensive) four bedroom villa since we arrived. What's even worse is that the power keeps cutting in and out causing alarms to go off and random things to light up, so we have not been able to sleep. When I called maintenance last night they said we were out of luck, and then started calling our room at 5am?? So now I've been awake since before dawn on my sister's wedding day and for the mother of the bride and her two sisters, the entire event has been ruined because we haven't slept. This is one of the hidden gems at Callaway Gardens. You need entrance into the gardens to be able to get to it. Entrance for an adult is about $25 or $30 depending on weekday or weekend. We decided to go up and see the various parts of the garden for Halloween. This was one of the many stops that we visited and discovered that we had been to one part of it about 20 years ago when visiting the church nearby. In fact I had thought that it was part of the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel but, on this trip discovered that it is its own unique place. We took a Pink Jeep Tour and this was one of the sites that we visited. It is on the road to the church and is after the church and the church parking lot. We parked along the road and walked up the small path to a large gazebo structure that had benches and an informational sign nestled amid some gardens and then the trees. A "wellness" path led away from the structure down toward the chapel. Our tour guides told us that it was about a 15 min walk through the woods to the chapel. It was very peaceful and seems a less frequented space by the visiting public. I would suggest it for all visitors to the area. read more

Callaway Resort & Gardens is really neat place. Actually visited both the resort and gardens. First, the resort. Was here for a business meeting at the Lodge. They did a good job with set up and really nice facilities. Also they served us a yummy lunch. Second, the gardens. Nice set of gardens with many activities. I wanted to stretch my legs after the meeting and ended up with a 6 mile hike! Combined 3 of their trails: Overlook Azalea Trail, Whippoorwill Lake Trail, and Mountain Creek Lake Trail; note the map does not show these interconnecting but you can do it by walking short distance between them. Found a large turtle on the middle of the trail (see pic). Basically park once & hike three times. Parking at Overlook Drive. ... After my strenuous hike visited the Discovery Center which is neat indoor area. Most of the gardens are outdoors. Many other attractions, but time did not permit for me to enjoy them. Definitely could spend several days here. The only downside is Callaway Resort & Gardens is pricey for a family. For myself (one person) it was no problem. Also military discount is available. Definitely worth a stop. read more

Good location from Atlanta for a quick getaway in just a little over an hour. Plenty of activities for adults and children. Be sure to check event calendar based on season. The Cottages are perfect for a small group with a nice roommate plan layout, full kitchen, and living area. Also a great screened in patio. The golf course is a disgrace to the Herschend name! The sand traps are horrible- canvas mats coming up through the sand. These are dangerous!! All kinds of weeds and grass growing in the sand traps! They don't tell you when you make reservations that there are only 9 holes open on the two courses .. so you have to play the same 9 holes two times! Shameful!! Well, I'm a member and when you go to the robins Beach gate, it should just be for remember lonely because we need a better way to get people in faster. We're standing in line for like 15 minutes behind several other cars and there's only one gate open, you should put barcode or transponder in peoples cars so that we can go through faster. My dad and I had a lot of fun playing golf on Callaway Gardens' Mountain View course. The course was in great shape. I recommend it. It used to host a PGA Tour event. That's all you need to know. If you want the details, read on. This review is for our golf experience only. For my thoughts on the many other things Callaway Gardens has to offer, such as biking, zip-lining, and Robin Lake Beach, see my review for the Yelp event that took place here back in 2011: https://www.yelp.com/biz/yelp-atlantas-first-road-trip-pine-mountain. Yeah, it's old. This review is long overdue too. We played in early September so the course still looked like "summer" conditions with lush, green fairways and rough. I shot an even 100 from the white/green tees. The Mountain View course is one of two 18-hole courses at Callaway Gardens. The other course is called Lake View. I chose Mountain View because it's the course that hosted the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge (1995-2002) and Buick Southern Open (1991-1994). Major winners to win at Callaway Gardens include 1995 PGA champion Steve Elkington (1994, 1998), 1997 PGA champion Davis Love III (1997), 2001 PGA champion David Toms (1999), and 2001 Champion Golfer of the Year and Georgia Tech alum David Duval (2000). It's an impressive list. Unsurprisingly, the Mountain View course is the longer and more difficult of the two courses. From the tips (blue tees), the Mountain View course measures 7,057 yards and has a 73.7/137 rating/slope. Par 72. We played from the mixed tees, white and green: 6,132 yards, 70.6/130. From the tips, the Lake View course measures just 6,158 yards with a 69.3/127 rating/slope. Par 70. It's significantly easier and, for most golfers, probably more fun to play. I haven't played Lake View, but the guy in the pro shop told us that it's got bigger fairways and a lot more water than the Mountain View course. There's only one, maybe two, holes on the Mountain View course where water comes into play. According to Callaway Gardens' website, the Lake View course has water on nine holes. The Lake View course is also the original course at Callaway Gardens. Lake View was built in 1952 according to GolfPass. Mountain View came later: 1963. Side note: Callaway's Mountain View and Lake View courses remind me of Stone Mountain Golf Club's Stonemont and Lakemont courses, respectively, but Callaway is way nicer. Like other resorts, Callaway offers "stay and play" packages, but you don't have to book one of those to play. You can get on for a daily fee too. At the time of writing this review, the daily fee rates per person, including 18 holes with cart, for the Mountain View course are $62 before 3pm Monday-Thursday and $71 before 3pm Friday-Sunday. For the Lake View course, the rates are $53 before 3pm Monday-Thursday and $62 before 3pm Friday-Sunday. Both courses are $45 per person 3pm and after, seven days a week. Compared to metro Atlanta daily fee courses, I think these prices are reasonable for the quality of course you get at Callaway. Military and juniors age 12 and under get discounted tee times. Seniors do not. It is a hike to get here if you're coming from the Atlanta area. From my home in Midtown, it took about 1 hour 45 minutes to get to the Mountain View course. If you're an avid golfer, I do think Callaway Gardens is worth the drive for the golf alone. I'd like to return and play the Lake View course some day, as well as replay the Mountain View course. My family and I just spent one week at Callaway Resort and Gardens. If you are planning a stay there, I encourage you to read this review. We booked 2 four bedroom "deluxe" villas for a week and 1 two bedroom "deluxe" villa for four nights. I am going to focus this review on the 4 bedroom Deluxe Villa #1081. The villa did not have any ice. The refrig did not have an ice maker and there were 2 counter top icemakers that did not work. Maintenance was clueless on why there was not an icemaker in the freezer or how to repair the counter top icemaker. The kitchen for the 4 BR villa was 4 ft x 5ft. The refrig extended out from cabinets by about 8 inches, reducing the 4 ft. Two people could barely fit in at the same time. There were two drawers in the kitchen. The drawers would not fully extend because they would hit the stove. The silverware was in the top cabinet. The kitchen did not have an oven mitt or pot holder. It did not have a cloth to wash a dish or wipe down the counter. The dining chairs felt like you were sitting on top of a wooden pole. The cost for this Villa #1081 for a week was $5,827.68. Most people would expect there to be ice included and a fully equipped kitchen to have drawers that open and basic kitchen supplies. This one lacked those things and more. One of the other villas we rented did not have ice either. The TV was not internet enabled so you could not use your streaming subscriptions. Currently, Callaway has a pending charge on my credit card for approximately $2,000 even though they have billed the full amount of our stay on the credit card five days ago. They are telling me that they cannot remove the pending charge. The credit card company says that the only way a pending charge can be removed is for the merchant (Callaway) to remove it. This is just some of the highlights of our stay. read more

During our stay, the main water line broke, so we were without most of the amenities. BUT, the staff took care of us. Provided us with meals and water (for free). Gave us an extra night free for compensation. Golf was awesome. Tripp (the manager) along with Lea (uncharge of the restaurants), and Crystal (front desk) were the best. What could have been a disaster was countered by the whole staff who constantly checked on us. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Callaway Gardens is a wonderful place to visit. We did get to go to many of the places there before leaving. Thanks to all for a great time. read more

THEFT BY TAKING BY CALLAWAY GARDENS GBI REPORT BELOW ! PLEASE READ AND BE INFORMED ! Had pre-paid for a ticket for Fantasy in Lights on 11/06/2025. Had a death in the family so had to change the DATE ( According to THEIR policy, tickets are non-refundable, but ARE transferrable for another day. _ Spent 6 hours - 11 hours simply trying to speak to people at the Information Center between Sat 11/22 and Sunday 11/23 to change the date to Monday 11/24 (was originally 11/25) even spoke to supervisors. I was hung up on continuously, filled out the online form for a return contact. Needless to say, no one ever changed or re-issued our ticket. In fact, Callaway Gardens REMOVED our ticket from the app ON MONDAY 11/24/25 voided our ticket and NEVER REFUNDED our ticket which is THEFT BY STEALING. We have now filed a police report for theft by stealing against Callaway and we have also contacted our bank to send all the paper trail evidence and screenshots to get our money back. Callaway is NOT HONEST, They WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY. THEFT BY STEALING IS A CRIMINAL ACT. Just so everyone knows - here is updated information online regarding Callaway and the recurring theme of their unhelpfulness in their customer service - Staff and customer service Poor training and unhelpfulness: A recurring theme is that employees are not thoroughly trained, lack knowledge, and are unhelpful when guests have problems. Miscommunication: Guests report being given incorrect information about policies or having difficulties getting issues resolved, such as being unable to speak with a manager. Booking and billing issues: There are complaints about confusion and errors with bookings, including incorrect ticket issues and unauthorized pending charges on credit cards. Here is also a story worth reading regarding similar incidents of Callaway Gardens and Theft by taking from a formal employee - July 25, 2025 GBI Arrests Former Callaway Resort and Gardens Employee for Theft by Taking Pine Mountain, GA (July 25, 2025) - The GBI has arrested and charged Jessica Steele, age 42, of Hamilton, GA, with one count of Theft by Taking. On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, the Pine Mountain Police Department requested the GBI to conduct an investigation into theft of funds by an employee from Callaway Resort and Gardens. Preliminary information indicates that Steele reportedly misappropriated more than $90,000 worth of funds from Callaway Gardens during her employment from January 1, 2020, to January 28, 2022. Wow! I mean... WOW! We had our yearly Men's retreat here. Let's just start with the drive to my cabin. A majestic adventure through the rolling hills of the golf course. Spattered with small lakes, huge ponds and feeding streams flowing with fresh rainwater. An abundance of trees and green foliage spattered with the seasonal floral blooms that make the whole scene look like a painting. Sculptured bridges of stone rocks and golf cart trails snaking through the scene like a slithering painted snake. Then I get to my cabin. Nestled amidst the trees of this small resort forest, 4 bedroom cabins on two levels each with their own bathroom, these cabins included full living room, kitchen and dining area. Each patio was accessible through a sliding glass patio window and came with a grill and ample seating to enjoy the playful antics of huge tree squirrels and the cacophony of birds songs and sightings. Now for the amenities,,, Butterfly Garden, log cabin, tulip garden, old rustic church, blooming flower garden and trails, insect museum with huge bug statues (eerie but nice), bird of prey show..... We finally got out this year to celebrate New Years! Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! We are about to hop on the trolley to enjoy the fireworks as well as the Christmas lights! We oruchased our tickets online. If you do this, all you need to do is park accordingly and follow the signs that say "trolley loading.""" Pull up your QR code tickets for the trolley from your phone. There will be a person who will get you registered before you enter the waiting area. Once you are in the waiting area, it took about 10 minutes of waiting, and now we are waiting to get on. Not too bad with the experience so far! We are last in line and excited about that! read more

I was very disappointed and a bit aggravated because we were only in the area a couple days so time was limited. We read about the spring flower thing at Pine mountain and decided to drive 90 minutes each way .. in the opposite direction of our final destination. We get there and its around 3 .. and started to rain. We didnt know there was a fee. 25 each si we asked if you could see the rhododendron from the car because not walking in the rain. Asked if it was worth it this late in the day. This is where She totally lied and said yes its very pretty and can see it from the car. Well we saw more azaleas or rhododendrons in nearby peoples yards .. literally. The spring flowers were either dead or way past their prime. I was disappointed. Felt we wasted our day. At this point i was rating them 1 star. The flower thing still has a week or 2 so its not like its the last day. But trust me if that what u are coming for ... its past its time. My husband kept pointing at areas and saying i think that WAS tulips ... i think thats where the azaleas where. Bottomline its currently disappointing. I felt misled by the lady who took our money. Would rather she be honest and say it past time and not worth it and not worth it if not able to walj trails. This place had forest abd several lakes and ponds. Golf and think theres tennis and resort. I guess u can swim in lake water when its warmer season. But thats not what we came to see. There is a cute chapel. We were heading to the exit but decided to check out the butterfly exhibit. At this point our expectations were on low. This area ended being good. The landscaping was impressive.. topiary and flowers planted to make designs. Unfortunately it was grey and raining by this point. Sad we didnt experience the azalea or rhododendrons at their prime. If i lived around here i would probably buy the season pass. I just wasnt worth a day of our vacation. read more

I have visited Callaway Gardens to view the Fantasy In Lights Christmas light display on four occasions. In my view, Callaway Gardens offers the best show Georgia has to offer. This year, I decided to stay with my family in one of the cabins. It was not a pleasant experience. The cabins are pricey ($500/night for a two-bedroom unit), and bare bones and infancy in the decorations. The check-in was a disaster. It took 30 minutes for the irritable clerk to process the five people in line ahead of us. Our check-in time was 4 PM, but they did not have our room ready until 8:30 PM. They offered to comp our breakfast to compensate us for our troubles, which was not all that impressive a concession, given most hotels offer free complimentary breakfast these days. There was a nice fireplace and even a free bundle of firewood, but the "starter block" provided to start the fire was about one-inch square and proved insufficient to get the fire started. I was annoyed to discover while in the shower that the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash containers had an aluminum seal I had to remove to get to the product. They proved impossible to remove without my glasses and with my wet and slippery fingers. I had to get out of the shower and retrieve my pocket knife and glasses to open them. I've traveled all over the world and have never encountered safety seals on the shampoo and conditioner. The misery didn't stop there. The cord on the hair dryer had three knots and was so twisted I had to straighten it out to use it. I'll return to Callaway when my grandson gets old enough to enjoy the Christmas lights, but I won't stay there. read more

My husband and I randomly came across Instagram posts for Callaway's Pumpkin Festivals, featuring carved pumpkins, fancily lighted walks, and a corn maze. After we attended this past weekend, I'm afraid this felt like a bit of a bait and switch, though it wasn't Callaway's fault that all of Atlanta seemed to descend on the grounds on the same day we did. All the pictures and film clips we saw on the website featured dazzling evening sights, so we made the hour and a half trek down from Atlanta to catch the view at sunset. We arrived at around six...to hefty lines leading into the park. The parking attendants and folks at the entrance booths certainly did what they could to keep things moving, but during our twenty minute wait just to get into the park, we couldn't help wondering whether this was a portent of good things to come or a foreshadowing of continued disappointments. Unfortunately, it was a bit of the latter. The forest walkway feels like an abbreviated and smaller-scaled version of the holiday lights in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens - quite short, with carved and lit foam pumpkins. The whole walk took no more than ten minutes, and this was after actively slowing down to take in the sights. On the plus side, there were a few different things to do. Under a tented marketplace, there were knick-knacks, festivities, and snacks for purchase, along with several other fast food trucks on site. There was a small child-centered show/dance/play area, along with a larger stage where a magician was performing some tricks to a thin crowd. While these were less attended, everything else was lines and crowds. The food courts and trucks were loud with folks trying to get their dinner in (thankfully, we'd eaten beforehand off-grounds at the advice of other Yelpers who suggested a nearby Mexican place). The longest lines, by far, were for the corn maze, which required a trolley ride to another part of the resort. We waited about a half hour to get on a trolley, and another twenty just to get back to our car afterwards. The corn maze itself was a pretty impressive sight, with lights and fun music throughout. Unfortunately - as with the lighted pathway - we got through it within ten minutes, and by the end of our time here, it'd felt like we'd waited more than we'd actually enjoyed the festivities. Weekend/peak prices are nearly $30 a person (a little less on Fridays), and with taxes and fees, it was hard to justify the cost after spending most of the time fighting crowds. The folks who work here definitely worked hard to keep things moving along, but for us, I'm afraid the experience was a little disappointing. read more

The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center is the perfect place to visit while it's sunny and gorgeous out there.. I was indecisive about going here earlier today but once I stepped into this fancy magical garden, I couldn't stop taking pictures of all the mystical freely fluttering butterflies The only drawback is to find the entrance to the Callaway garden's butterfly center. if you're not staying at the resort, then you won't have the access card for the exit/entrance. You can certainly take the other entrance, but make sure you have a map of the property with you. read more

This review is for their "villas", and a stay at the end of Oct 2021. First, to call them "villas" is an absolute misnomer. They are more like cabins. Call them what they are. We came for a work retreat, and rented 3 "villas" w/ 3 bedrooms each. Our cabin had a heavy mildew smell (one bedroom reeked like dirty wet towels), the attic was wide open (this was also the week leading up to Halloween!), I literally walked into a spider web when checking the toilet for the toilet ring stain (yep toilet stain there was) - and a live bug crawling inside. Debris on the bathroom floor like it hadn't been swept. The kitchen counter had a smashed and decapitated bug. The two rooms that should be the most clean - the most disappointing. After a super frustrating experience with the lobby manager, we were moved to a different cabin - much more tolerable w/ just 1 live cockroach and toilet ring stain. HOWEVER after the first night, I noticed a few bug bites around my waist, then around my legs, my neck - and progressively more bites each morning. After 4 nights there and finally home, I apparently brought the bed bugs w/ me and kept getting more bites. I went to the dermatologist who confirmed they were bed bug bites and prescribed various creams. I sent a complaint to Callaway Gardens & told them to thoroughly clean my room for future guests b/c of the bed bugs and they only sent an apology, hence this very overdue review. Oh and on my last day, I found a very big & thick spider in the bathroom. In addition to cleanliness & bug issues, there was an unfortunate water main break on Day 2 of our meeting, for the entire resort property. So we had no water from the faucets and toilets - we had purchased all this food for cooking and ended up eating offsite, & all the hygiene inconveniences that come w/ no running water. The staff did a poor job at proactively informing their guests about the water main break, also not providing realistic timelines on the fix - and it wasn't until after we came back from dinner that we found a note on each of our "villas" to apologize for the water main break. It was definitely more like a camping experience, and fortunately next morning, the water was back on. From my understanding, Callaway Gardens did comp us for the one night. Other feedback - the villas are located about a 10-minute drive from the main resort. Not convenient at all to go back-n-forth if you are thinking of reserving meeting rooms in the main bldg; the villas do have a nice size TV that you can hook to your laptop for presentations. HOWEVER the internet connection/bandwidth is not good - probably just one person can use the WIFI signal at a time. If WIFI is important for everyone, then you may want to hold your meetings in the main building. You may also want to use the wired connection which is located near the TV. The kitchen has the following: coffee maker (but NO coffee filters and the lobby doesn't provide them), toaster, pots/pans/dishes/utensils, dishwashing liquid (but NO sponge or gloves), dishwasher soap. There are no grills on the property but we happened to find one underneath one of our "villas". What was good? Our "villa" stay included admissions to Callaway Gardens, so we did enjoy some hiking on the last day - plenty of great paths & views. We didn't have time but they also have a "Birds of Prey" show, the famous butterfly emporium, and also a ropes course & ziplines. The lunch boxes, while pricey, were good - also huge kudos to "Val" in Catering for having the kindest heart and providing great service whenever I came by to pick up our meals. She's been a loyal employee for many years - she was a gem to me. What's nearby? SuperValue supermarket, package store, restaurants and some gift shops in downtown Pine Mountain. We had dinner at the San Marcos Mexican restaurant during the water main break, and it was pretty good. So Callaway Gardens, my request is that you regularly & thoroughly clean all the "villas" incl. quality assurance checks before new guests arrive. Also on a regular basis, please exterminate rooms for cockroaches, spiders & bed bugs. read more

We went to Callaway this past weekend and were a little disappointed. The last time we were there was in 2000, and we had a nice visit. This time around we were disappointed. There didn't seem to be as much to see as in 2000. It seems there are very few choices available for those of us who are not into hiking, bike riding, playing golf or going to the beach. I recall being able to go into the horticulture center/building on our last visit, but, alas, it was closed on this trip. We did go to the butterfly center, which is always nice, and they have added a new building called Discovery Center. I understand the special events they hold/sponsor throughout the year are good and worth a visit. The gift shops were also very disappointing. I always like to buy a Christmas ornament wherever we go...they did have hot air balloons, since that is an event they sponsor, but they did not have any markings on them...did not have Callaway engraved on them or a date or anything. We are interested in the Fantasy of Lights at Christmas and may go back for that, but we won't plan another trip "just to go the gardens." If you are a hiker or bike, you will enjoy it, but it is pricey to go there just for those activities. read more

We have been long time annual members and have referred many friends and family to Callaway Gardens over the years. Since new management took over a couple years ago, this place has gone completely wrong. They have spent millions rebuilding the beach pavilion and that's it. Everything else they have completely let go and neglected. Many of the existing bathrooms around the park are in total disrepair with sinks and urinals falling off the walls. They got rid of boat rentals at the boat house a year ago (we miss being able to do that). The putt putt course is full of cracks and holes with the brick borders falling apart. It's continuously a complete mess of branches and pine cones. They never clean it up unless there is a special event like Christmas lights or Labor Day bash weekend. Bathrooms around lake Robin are constantly locked and unusable when we come to picnic in the picnic areas and enjoy the lake views. When beaches or restaurants are closed other than normal hours, there is absolutely ZERO information on the website and they rarely answer the phones...unless you're calling to buy a membership. So be prepared to potentially drive several hours to Callaway for a fun day and have it ruined when you pay big bucks to get in and find out you have no restaurant to get food and you have to drive several miles around the park to find an open bathroom. Unbelievably frustrating!!! We are done coming here once our membership expires next year and will no longer recommend this place to anyone. Such a shame how new management stepped in and ruined an iconic treasure that we've enjoyed for many years. read more

I've been going to Callaway Gardens for years, but stayed in the resort for the first time this past summer. The resort is super nice and has all sorts of activities! The rooms were also very luxurious. Be sure to rent bikes to bike around the beautiful property and trails. The pools and hot tubs are also very nice! We dined at the Haywood 209 Cafe right outside the resort, and didn't receive the best service but food was fine. Would probably try a different restaurant there next time. Overall really fun and would return! read more

May 18-22,2024 We stayed in a cabin. 4 adults and 3 children (6-5-2) and a dog. 2 large bedrooms with bath in each room. The completely furnished kitchen/dining/living room was very big as well. Every room was spotless. Also a small screened in porch. There is alot to do on the large property -we enjoyed the butterfly center, discovery center and rented a golf cart. We visited Callaway Gardens several years ago and were very impressed. When looking for a weekend getaway for just the two of us we though it would be perfect. Golf for him, scenery for me. Though we had a nice time, the feel of the place has changed. Things were more run down and not as impressive as before. Let's start with golf. There are two 18 hole golf courses: the PGA Mountain View course and the Lakeview Course. First, you have to find the clubhouse.. signs are not well marked. We even asked at the Lodge and they could not tell us how to get to the clubhouse. After driving aimlessly through the golf entrance we finally found it... 40 minutes later. The clubhouse was less than desirable. It was a one man show and they were busy. He was stressed and no time to answer questions. We paid for a round with cart and got a bucket of balls. For some unknown reason he made our tee time 10 minutes ago.. leaving no practice time. We went to the driving range anyway. He was too busy to fix it for us. Also, the clubhouse picturesque windows were filthy, the ladies restroom had feces (or something like it) on the walls and the service sucked. Finally we made it to the cart spot. The cart we were given was a piece of crap. One could walk faster than the cart could go. When we mentioned it we were told that was what was available. We finally started the round. Not too many players out yet even though the course was busy so not problem with missing our tee time. Course was beautiful but a little soggy. When we wanted to start the back nine we could not find hole ten. Again, lack of signage!! We finally went back to the cart place and asked. The cart guys said they did not know where hole ten was because they had never played the course...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? It is one thing to not have played but a whole other thing to not know the course.. where you work, where you are responsible for carts. Back to the unfriendly clubhouse we went. . While it was a good time the course has suffered. The next day we visit the gardens, chapel and butterfly conservatory. All of those were very nice and it is easy to see why people bring their families here. By the way, it was a rainy day but was pretty packed. Lots of young children all around. In the afternoon we played the Lakeview course. In my opinion it is the better of the two. Gorgeous features and nice challenges. Bridges, sand traps, better flow. Though we enjoyed our weekend together we won't return. You can get a better experience for the same money many other places. This resort is not a resort at all. read more
