Tony's Little Italy "authentic" Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is a $10 pizza masquerading as a $42 pizza…read more Tony's "Chicago-Style" (it only looks like one) is closer to Little Caesar's than a true Chicago masterpiece. I tried Tony's Little Italy Pizza in Placentia for the first time and I can attest that THIS IS IN NO-WAY AN "AUTHENTIC CHICAGO DEEP DISH PIZZA" as advertised. It's not even close. I can't fault the enthusiasm of family frontmen like Taylor or his Uncle, Tony, for their contagious enthusiasm for their product, but all other comparisons end there. I lived in Chicago for more than a decade working for Leo Burnett Advertising/Chicago where the real Chicago deep dish pizza's, the standards by which you would judge "authentic," are Giordano's, Gino's East, Pizzaria Uno, and Lou Malnati's (a distant 4th in the rankings). These pizzas are HEAVY with quality ingredients and though deep dish, the crust is something that never gets in the way. In TRUE CHICAGO DEEP DISH PIZZA ingredients are 90% of the pizza, the crust 10% or less. The opposite is the case at Tony's where they make pizza's that are ALL dough and FEW ingredients. Tony's Little Italy Pizza offers a poor rendition of true Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. I ordered a 12" sausage, spinach, and mushroom - the exact same pizza I'd order at Giordano's, Gino's East, Pizzaria UNO, or Lou Malnati's countless times. What I got was a pizza that is 90% tasteless dried bread called a crust and a few tablespoons of ingredients (sausage, spinach, mushrooms) disguised under a heavy tomato sauce. In many places the unappetizing crust extended all the way to the surface hidden only by the tomato sauce topping on my pizza. Looks good but the deception ends there. I got almost no cheese, few mushrooms, skimpy sausage, and miserly spinach. This may be what one call's Chicago STYLE (and that's what Tony's should call it) pizza out here on the west coast, but this pizza definitely would not carry its own weight in Chicago. If you've eaten Chicago Deep Dish Pizza in Chicago where I've been you will easily be able to relate to everything I am saying. If you've never had a real Chicago Deep Dish Pizza then be forewarned. This isn't the real deal. It's what Little Caesar's would do if they tried to sell Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. All dough, no substance. As Scotty said in Star Trek TOS, " Fool me once-shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." We won't be going back. Appearances are deceiving!

The sauce wasn't thickened enough, so it was much too soupy for a pasta dish, and the taste of white wine was very prominent. The garlic cream sauce was salty too, although nowhere near as crazy salty as the Chicken Piccata, Tortellini Giovanni, and Minestrone. Chicken Piccata: Like everything else we tried, this dish was just way too salty. The lemon-butter sauce was completely overwhelmed by the capers, and eating it honestly felt like shoveling forkfuls of salt into my mouth. The only saving grace was the chicken itself, which was cooked well and had a nice golden-brown exterior. Tortellini Giovanni: Just okay. I've definitely had better. The cheese filling inside the tortellini wasn't particularly good, although the Italian sausage was pretty tasty. The more I ate, though, the saltier, heavier, and oilier the dish seemed to get. Overall, there was really nothing special about it. Minestrone: SO salty that I couldn't even finish it. I'm not sure if this is simply their recipe or if the soup had been refrigerated and reheated to the point where some of the water had evaporated, leaving the salt increasingly concentrated. It's too bad because the underlying flavor was actually there--it was just completely ruined by the amount of salt. Pizza: Just okay. The dough wasn't bad, and I actually liked that it had some chewiness to it. But for the price, I'd rather go somewhere else. I really wanted to love this place, especially since this was my birthday dinner. I wasn't expecting fancy or perfect--I was hoping for a charming little hole-in-the-wall with really good, comforting Italian food. Unfortunately, we left super disappointed.

Obviously, after hearing that story, we had to try the pizza that started it all! And it did not disappoint. I can definitely see myself ordering that again. The other half was the salami pizza with the honey drizzle. It was supposed to have some heat -- my sister could taste it, although I couldn't -- and the honey made it a really interesting combination. Not something I would normally think to order, but definitely worth trying. I also ordered the citrus agave, thinking it was basically a fancy name for lemonade. It wasn't! Lemon, orange and lime made it much more interesting, with just a slight bitterness from the citrus that balanced the sweetness. Delicious and different. We sat upstairs, where there was a wonderful breeze coming through on a summer evening. The whole atmosphere was charming and relaxed, the service was excellent, and the food was memorable. The biggest surprise? Terra is right near my office, and I never knew it was there. Definitely a 10/10. I came because of a recommendation, and now I'm recommending it to everyone else. I will absolutely be back.

Found it funny, it even comes with reheat instructions and yes it does retain most of the original pizza intent.

5 Stars for Food & Service, 1 Star for Atmosphere This was my first time visiting Mountain Mike's in Brea, and while the food and customer service were fantastic, the experience was ruined by the heat. The AC was completely out during a summer heatwave, making it unbearable inside. Even though it was around 82°F outside, it felt like well over 100°F inside with zero air circulation. I wanted to enjoy the lunch buffet, but I couldn't stay inside for more than 5 minutes before dripping sweat. I ended up having to eat outside just to be able to breathe comfortably. It's wild that a major franchise allows a location to stay open for dine in under these conditions it shows a complete disregard for customer comfort and the poor employees who have to work full shifts in that heat. Shoutout to the staff for doing a great job despite the awful conditions, but I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

I ordered the Turkey Sandwich combo that included sidewinder fries, fresh baked apple & a fountain drink. After placing my order. The associate asked if I'd like "ranch" with my sandwich, assuming it's included since she asked and didn't say any other indication that it'll be an extra charge for the ranch. After I responded "Sure" I also asked for jalapeños. I ordered the half dozen bagel with a container of the strawberry cream cheese. When I got home. i had the Turkey sandwich shared among the other half with my daughter. After we were finished with lunch. My daughter asked for the Fresh baked apples. Realize my meal didn't come with the fresh baked apples that's suppose to be included w the combo. I was ok with that. TIL i went and look over my receipt. I saw I was charge for the Ranch and Jalapeños. I felt it was misleading that when the associate asked if I wanted Ranch w my sandwich it was included since she didn't inform mee of the $ .50 charge for the sauce along I saw on my receipt, I also got charged for the jalapeños. Now I wasn't fond that I wasn't informed ahead of the extra charges. I called about an hour later to Avalon. Ask them to speak to the manager. I forgot her name but informed her of the extra charges for the ranch and jalapeños. She mentioned that they now charge for the condiments and next time I return, let the associate know that my fresh baked apple was missing from my last order and they'll give mee it. I know it's only $ 1.00 but if i knew I had to pay extra and was informed ahead of time.I wouldn't have gotten it, this is something in a restaurant industry especially, customers should be informed of the extra charges. My best friend that's a regular also at Avalon never ever had to pay extra for any ranch. I asked her. I had 3 bagels that went to waste literally by Saturday from Thursday. Harden up so bad and i put my bagel in a bread keeper/container tight away to keep the bagel fresh. They were so hard within 2 days. I find it odd because I've purchased a dozen bagel b4 and it never gotten that hard with only 2 days. Overall my last experience here wasn't as top notch the way I'm use to in the last purchasing items here.u

Restaurant is nice and clean, very spacious and a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Good for small parties and big groups. Staff were super friendly and helpful. We ordered the King Size, so it was 3 slices per person (it was 4 of us), was delicious satisfying. We ended up ordering a medium pizza also later on, but just because we were there for a while and we eat a lot, plus some beers. Excellent spot. Definitely worth the drive! Pizza flavors were on point, with a nice crunchy crust. Loved the cheesy flavor.
