A good coffee place in Salida on the main road. Service was great, prices were about average $8 for two specialty drinks. I got the Aztec Mocha which was a mocha with cinnamon and cayenne, which was prettttty spicy at first and kinda just blinded by tastebuds for the rest of the coffee. My boyfriend had the chai, which was tasty but more like steamed milk with a little flavor. I'd come in again to try some of the other specialty flavors....maple raspberry caught my eye. As an Angeleno in an unfamiliar small town, I was pleasantly surprised to find this coffee shop. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with warmth and energy. The owner and/or lead barista was kind and patient. I witnessed him deal with rude customers with graciousness and gratitude and was incredibly accommodating and friendly to all of us...he'd even dance if you asked ;) We wanted to come back at the end of our day but alas, they were sadly closed. Check. It. Out. This place is legitimately sacred for coffee lovers- if you're a traveler coming through Salida- I cannot stress enough how good the service is. 1. They roast their own beans. Not overly flavored, packaged well and the prices! I'm amazed considering. It's clear the locals love this place because I was here at open door and it was SLAMMED The couch and lounge chairs combined with home style dinner tables and the mauve paint makes chilling out in here hard to resist. So then I'm looking for food. OMG It's not complex, but YUMMERS And the staff. The staff works hard, they're polite, friendly and real enough that you can tell they don't care about anything but doing their job well. I love this place and it's a staple for me in Salida for sure. Ask the manager Kinsey was training someone for their first day- she's (one of- if not the only other) hardest working person I've met on the west coast (in food service) after 3 years. She just opened her own restaurant and has dedication to her employer just the same. I was recently in Salida for the Colorado Brewer's Rendezvous. That was a blast on itself but we had to leave first thing Sunday morning. My boyfriend and I stopped in for some coffee on our way out of town. I was surprised to find they had a Mexican Mocha, a favorite of mine that I don't see a lot (this would be the second place, in fact). The espresso was delicious, I enjoyed the soy milk substitute and the boyfriend enjoyed his bacon breakfast burrito. The only downside, they were out of the vegetarian burrito, which sounded delicious with potatoes in it. The lady at the counter was very nice and I enjoyed the atmosphere though we didn't stay for very long. If I'm back next year for the beerfest, I definitely know where I'm going for breakfast while I'm there. read more

I really liked this little coffee house and it's owner, Ross. I was only in Salida for a few days flying gliders, but I needed some "real" coffee and wasn't going to find it at Safeway, WalMart or Starbucks. I bought a pound of wonderful Sumatran that was just what the doctor ordered! I also savored 3 or 4 cappuccinos while I was in town. There is a chance we will fly again this summer in Salida and I will definitely stop by to visit with Ross and enjoy his coffee! read more

Good coffee, SUPER friendly staff. They bring in breakfast burritos from Antonito, CA and they're pretty good. Staff and customers all seem to be on a first-name basis (Salida population is like 4000) so it was a fun place to sit and people watch and hear all the local gossip. Free wifi. This place might be great but it was so packed. The staff who was trying their best, was running back and forth like a chicken with their head cut off . I felt stressed ordering. There were no burritos left we were told it be about 3 minutes for a new one. Well 15 minutes later, the server checked the burrito said they would just be another few minutes. We asked for our money back since we were on our to snowboard and didn't feel like waiting. They gladly gave us our money back and profusely apologized. Personally I wouldn't go back just because I hate packed/busy places. The owners need to have two people working there, I honestly felt bad for the server. read more

The coffee is very reasonably priced and the specialty drinks are also reasonably priced. The shop is small but comfy. A solid go to, especially if you're just passing through, because, the shop is right off of the main road. It was one of those cups that i was literally sad when it was over and seriously contemplated turning around for another!! Absolutely delicious coffee. Their espresso is fabulous and their drip coffee follows in suit. The Roaster is just up the road at Mountain Phoenix Coffee Roasters in Poncha Springs. They definitely care about the quality of their coffee here. Sacred Ground is a cute little shop tucked off to the side as you come into Salida. Not a big parking lots by any means but definitely worth the stop. Adequate seating inside, fantastic selection of Monin syrup flavors. If you're in Salida, don't bother going anywhere else for your coffee fix. read more

She let the espresso sit in the cup for over one minute before pouring flat hot milk over it. Unfortunately espresso oxidizes and turns black within 12 seconds, even sooner when splashed in an empty cup. My latte was terrible. I took two sips and tossed it. I found Sacred Grounds, a little precious hole in the wall trough a friend. What amazing service! I was immediately contacted by the owner/roaster of Sacred grounds/Mountain Phoenix coffee about my watery cup of iced coffee that I initially Yelped about. He tracked down the problem and discovered they had accidentally added too much water to the iced coffee concentrate. He then sent me two huge bags of freshly roasted coffee beans to make up for it- Guatemalan and Sumatra. I had both this morning and they are WONDERFUL! This is great service that others should take note of- an immediate response trying to make it right and investigating what the issue was. Because of this, I would definitely return on a trip to Salida. And thanks to the generous shipment of coffee beans, I now have delicious coffee for a few weeks! read more

Maybe we visited on an off day. Maybe this blond short haired lady has never made a latte before in her life. All these maybes-but this was my first and last time coming to this coffee shop. A latte is actually supposed to have foam-but not this one. The milk is supposed to be steamed, if not lovingly, at least not until it screams-but not this milk. The espresso shot is not supposed to sit in the cup waiting for the milk-but this one did. If this coffee shop had had an average of 2 or 3 star reviews, I might've been able to excuse it (and wouldn't have visited), but it certainly doesn't deserve 4 stars for a lackluster product. Maybe if we were locals, it would've been better. As it is, we will never return here and neither should you-at least, until they learn how to make a decent espresso drink. read more

I love this little local coffee shop so much, I make a detour to Salida whenever I'm remotely in the area (usually driving down to Pagosa Springs). Warm, friendly atmosphere, free Wifi with no password, and delicious coffee! I especially love their mochas which are made just to my taste, not too sweet.
