This was a great experience! I saw on some other comment/review that it needs to be updated and more upgraded with tech, but I highly disagree. The simplicity of the room and puzzles was more than enough. I went with my fiancee and we had a blast through the room(s). We managed to escape with 5 seconds to spare. One thing, we were very shy about asking for clues. Our host was mindful of the fact that it was only myself and my fiancee, so he threw out clues fairly often to give us a chance. That gave us motivation to keep going. I'd highly suggest this location! *** So just an FYI, the sound effects CAN scare you off if you're not mentally prepared. But, they're JUST sound effects. We had such a great time completing the escape room. We were a group of 7 and were lucky to find that they were able to accommodate our group short notice. Our host Ricky was super! He was very friendly and gave us lots of fun details about our room. We even had a silly request for him to play a song for us and he did at the beginning of our time in the room. This place was SO GREAT from start to finish. We forgot the name of the guy at the front desk (so sorry we forgot) but he was SO friendly and explained everything very well before we started. He played the role very well with the theme of our escape room and it got our group excited to play. The room was clean, the clues were very clear and the escape room felt very realistic. It felt like we really were in a motel/ hotel lobby. Also!! I have to add that having the bathroom available was a nice touch. I haven't been to an escape room with a bathroom available. . . so that was convenient for us. We all had an amazing experience. I am so glad we went and we will definitely be back! Wow! Incredibly creative and clever set-up! We had a group of 6: 2 adults and 4-teens (ages 13-17). The fact that they weren't on their phones AND we worked together to solve the puzzles- so fun! Genuine teamwork at best. After having escaped "The Cabin"- the kids IMMEDIATELY wanted to go to the other site to do that escape room. Afterwards the excitement dominated the dinner conversation. With the oldest already planning her 18th birthday at one, the others just wanting to go whenever. This would be an ideal place for employers to bring in their employees for any team building experiences. Although I have wanted to bring my family for a long time, this was our first experience at an escape room. I brought my husband and 3 of our children ranging in age 9-16 We had an AMAZING experience here. The room was well thought out, every detail. It was kind of hard but everyone found a clue. So we have done both of their escape rooms and this one was quite different than any of the other escape rooms we've done. First, you need to listen. There are several auditory clues, and they don't necessarily replay. Second, not everything is what you think it is. Check everything because you might be assuming incorrectly about what you see. Third, two puzzles we solved by dumb luck. We had enough to solve them. When we debriefed, obvious things would have gotten us the puzzles without the guess work. Fourth, you MUST work fast because there's a BONUS ROOM! They can explain when you sign up. It made you feel like you completely got your money's worth out of the room. Lastly, your placement on any type of leader board is not based upon time but rather points. Your time left over (out of an hour 13 seconds), coupled with the bonus room, equals points. Seriously. The alpine ski resort was so challenging but possible and kept you guessing after every finished clue. Hints are readily available if needed. Price is really fair and makes them even more attractive. The employee that works here is rude. Me and my mom walked in and everyone just stared. We asked the male employee about making an appointment and he said "we don't have any". It's not as big as other escape rooms I've been to, but the workers were incredibly nice, the story was well done, the traps were tricky without being impossible, and my gf and I had a bunch of fun with our friends. I'd definitely recommend for others who want a mental fun night apart from the physical fun of Big Bear. read more

They have two locations. We did the one on 1121 Big Bear Blvd. It was 8 of us all in the same family. Age ranges from my 76 y.o in-laws to my wife and myself and our four kids ranging from 15 to 8. Everyone participated and had a great time. Ours was "Escape from the Ski Lodge". It was very family friendly, no scary stuff at all. We've been to other escape places where it was a dark or supernatural theme and this one had none of that. The staff member, Sue, was very friendly and thorough, explaining everything to us and giving us clues if we wanted them. We ended up finding the solution. Everyone worked together and my kids absolutely loved it. read more

This was an AMAZING room with a fabulous story line. This was my fifth escape room and my husbands first. Was truly a unique and extra special room with lots of creative clues that I've never seen before. Very in depth story line that kept us wanting to escape not just for us but also for the story. Do NOT miss this if you are in Big Bear. If escape rooms are your jam like me or if you are new like my husband you will love it. To top it off the family was so passionate about what they do, they were so friendly and hospitable, and their love of escape rooms shined through them and the room itself. My husband and I have probably done 30 + escape rooms. We live in LA where they are plentiful and extremely well done (owing to the production design and storytelling talent LA has due to the entertainment industry). Tonight we were in big bear for our anniversary and we're pleased to find an escape room. "Why not?" We thought. This was one of the best rooms we've ever been to. I don't want to give any clues away so I can't go into too much detail, but I will say that lots of the clues were very inventive while being straightforward- the right amount of challenge. There was really great sound design and use of story. There is a point system incentivizing teams to finish early (haven't had that before at any other rooms). Best of all was the passion from the owner. You can tell this is more than a job for him. He's as invested in your journey as you are. A + Next time we are in big bear we will come back for the next iteration of the game. read more

Took our 10yo and he can't wait to try the other two experiences... we've done other escape rooms down the hill and this one was challenging (we made it out with 9min to spare!) The family who put this room together definitely put a lot of time and effort into it. Yes, it has a few rough edges but the personal touch puts this one at the top of my list for sure! This escape room was so much fun! I brought my 17 year old daughter & her friend last week & we joined a dad & his son of similar teenage. This was my first time in an escape room, and they explained the process really well. Not really knowing what to expect we all worked together fine & even beat the clock. This room was awesome! Plenty for 6 people to do while in the room. My six year old was so good and figuring out some of the puzzles, sometimes we all over think it and kids bring us back. This was so fun! I had never been to an escape room before and there was a really warm and welcoming vibe. The puzzles were challenging but fun and a little unconventional. Lots of appreciation to Tony(and Marilyn)for keeping an eye out for us and giving us hints when we needed them!! Plus, we had another group member that couldn't make it; and Marilyn was super helpful and refunded us with only a $5 charge, which was completely reasonable as we let them know at the last minute. While we did not actually get a chance to experience Mountain Room Escapes, I was planning it as a potential activity for our corporate retreat of 23. Unfortunately due to internal miscommunications with the team, we were unable to agree upon it as an activity. Throughout the planning I conferred with Matt, the owner, who was exceptional in every way! He was very responsive and completely accommodating to our request for a room during the day. It's awesome to find an indoor activity in Big Bear for the people in our group who are rather averse to the cold. Would wholeheartedly recommend working with Matt! Went here last Saturday and had fun. We did the cabin experience, and it was well thought out. Sometimes the escape rooms don't make sense, but this one did.
