My dog has been here three times and has always come back healthy and well-cared for. The grounds are beautiful -- a dog's country paradise! I have no complaints about the way he was treated. My only complaint is that they close at 1:00 on Saturdays and charge a $100 late fee if you drop off after that. Yes, this is on the website and they said that they reminded me when I made the reservation. Fine. I made the reservation several weeks in advance and was packing for an international trip the day we dropped my dog off. It slipped my mind. One thing that would help is sending an email confirmation with this info. Seems like standard business practice to send an email anytime a customer makes a reservation. They could go one step further and send an automated text or email the day before your reservation starts (like doctors offices and restaurants do). This would also benefit the hardworking employees at MRK so they don't have to deal with late drop-offs. Otherwise, 5 stars. read more

Boarded my 2 standard Aussies, I picked them up and of course they were excited! But when we got home, they both conked out. I make this point bcuz of other experiences at other places and they seemed different when we got home. Not from this place! Just calm like they went to stay at a families house. No anxiety, just like they never left their regular environment. The prices are sooooo reasonable! The facility is clean and the staff is top notch. You can tell they like their job. read more

Mountain Run Kennel is the country club for dogs! We are thrilled to have found Mountain Run Kennel. This was our first time boarding our two year English Springer Spaniel. We were a little nervous because he's a little high-strung but very loving. But he popped his head in the front door, happily greeted everyone and walked away without even looking back! MRK's setting is picturesque, the fields, the pond, and the beautiful trees that around property are perfect for an active pet. When he's at MRK, he's happy and I'm not worried. I have two dogs - one of which is 100 lbs and gets a bit of anxiety when he's away from us. We were nervous about bringing our boys to a kennel but Mountain Run was amazing. They were so friendly and efficient. My boys went right with them without an hesitation, which is unheard of! When we picked then up, they were fresh and clean (bath!) and were happy and not scared. I just want to give a huge thanks to the amazing staff at Mountain Run! This was my first time boarding my fur baby and we were both nervous to say the least. Michelle and all of the other ladies went above and beyond to make us both feel at ease and comfortable. I would recommend this facility over and over again. I was traveling abroad for work, thought they had my back. 1. told them do not use my private cell phone b/c i am working for the government traveling overseas . ....use my government (global) cell phone. Also gave them contact information for my Mom. They did not use either. 2. told them in case there is an emergency with my dog and you cannot contact me call my mother (in the U.S.) . They did not. Told them worst case scenario you can email my civilian account, they did not. 3. I got back after two week of travel in Africa and found out they had moved my dog from a $35/night kennel into a $95/night room WITHOUT my authorization. 4. When I was picking him up the person on duty said she would have to have a manger "talk to me" about why he was moved from a low rent room to a high price room. No joy, no one ever called. Literally pay your bill if you want your dog! 5. The girl who was taking my money intimated that there was a medical reason for moving him into a high dollar room......IF THERE WAS A MEDICAL ISSUE WITH MY DOG YOU SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED ME/US! 6. The ONLY message i got from this company was on my freaking civilian cellphone, which i explicitly told them not to use, but when i get back stateside after two weeks in Africa i have a cell message from them on day two of his stay stating ***inexplicable but then something about he cannot get up****** . So now i get back from two weeks in Africa and find out my dog has medical issues??? WHY WASN'T ANYONE ALERTED TO THIS?? 7. Bottom line, i used to use these gals but now will never trust them with any animal i care about. Awful communication with customers and they tried to triple my bill which i ended up having to dispute with USAA and pointed out I had an agreement for $35/night and they ramped it up to $95/night. 8. It took me three months through USAA to dispute the charge - yes, i should have put it on a credit card and i screwed up and put it on a debit card just because i was desperate to see my boy and was super pissed and them and wanted to get the f**k out of there. In hind sight i should have used a credit card and disputed it when i got home - i disputed my debit card account when i got home an hour later but it was a lot of work. 9. Don't go here - i used to with my two dogs, will never go back again. For freaking $95/night i can board him cheaper in the DC area and save a trip to and from Culpepper. 10. Awful last experience, too bad the management never gave a s**t about wanting to talk to me and resolve the issue - i had to solve the $ issue by disputing the charges........awful. read more

Just moved to the area, so I need to find pet services and prefer those with the highest ratings. I went down the list of links on their website homepage, reading each in their entirety. Mountain Run is looking wonderful. Then I get to the link about the owner, who has spent her life breeding Labs. Being a passionate advocate for spay/neuter, adoption, rescue, and being against breeding/puppy mills, I won't support an organization that promotes what I advocate against. Doesn't matter read more

We boarded our 16-month old golden retriever for 10 days over the holidays. She was there longer than we needed due to the days they are closed and the $100 fee for off hour pickup. When we did get her she was visibly sick. MRK says she was fine when they had her. We went straight to urgent care at our vet's office and she had a 106 fever and an infection. Communications were frustrating with MRK. When emailing them, they respond but during the entire visit we saw only one photo of her. You can't see where the dogs stay and for $100/night we think she was cared for and had fun but no way to tell -and the fact that she was not well at pick up did not inspire trust. We have taken far to long for us to review this wonderful kennels. We were delighted by the high standards of care that our dachshund received every time we board her at mountain run. The staff care for your fur babies as if it was their own, very very clean and loving kennels. Sadly we moved out of the area, after trying other 5* kennels on the west coast which have a much higher price, not one of these have ever come close to mountain run Culpeper. read more

Mountian Run Kennel is a nice clean place with open fields in back out in rural Culpeper County. The ladies do a great job and love the dogs. We live nearby and use them periodically when we travel. The only problem I have is that our dog is a rescue that is a boxer mixed with part pit bull. As a result of this mix, even though she is very social with others animals, OUR DOG IS NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH OTHER DOGS!! Even though the staff plays with her alone, this "isolation treatment" is very disheartening to our family. Intellectually I sort of get the claimed "liability issue," but German Shepards bite more statistically, and they aren't isolated so that stinks. Bottom Line: Good place, but pit mixes (not sure about others?) are second class citizens, regardless of proven temperament. Sad read more

I called to confirm pricing and asked at drop off also. Turned out it is their policy to charge double for Saturday night as they only offer one pick up time on Sunday. We rushed home to get our dog within the pick up window but would have taken out time to get home if we knew it would cost the same to grab her the next morning. When I called to talk to someone after I saw I had been double billed the employee yelled at me, talked over me repeated and what not let me finish a single sentence. I later spoke with the manager. She was worse. She called me greedy to argue over $35 and that "I should be happy to pay whatever it takes for my dog" she also said "I;m the only one that has ever complained about anything". I was so happy with the when I dropped my dog off but they way they treated me is definitly concerning. Do not use. They are shifty. read more

All my dogs for the past 30 years have absolutely have LOVED Mountain Run. The minute they see the van they jump right in and not even a good bye. The always come back healthy and shine and happy. This place is top notch and id gladly recommend them to anyone. I've been boarding my cat here for several years. Prior to my cat, I boarded dogs here starting 10 years ago and have been coming here ever since. This really is a great facility and the staff genuinely care about your pets. While I do live in DC, and there are obviously closer options, I make the 2 hour drive each way to Culpeper because it's the only place I'm happy taking my cat for long term stays. I know he's well taken care of here. That's all that matters! read more

FANTASTIC experience every time we've been ... Incredibly clean, lovely people, and they treat my dog like family. She LOVES going - she jumps out of the car and practically drags me to the front door to say hello to all her kennel friends, and we love that everyone greets her by name and obviously know her and remember her. I used to work for a vet and worked for a kennel in Great Falls, VA, for many years, so I toured five local kennels ... and I found this one top notch - facilities, cleanliness, food and Rx protocols, people and excellent care. read more
