Mountain sports outlet sells gear and clothing, and also rents skis and snowboards. Everything is marked down and there are big name brands including Burton, Spyder, Patagonia, Marmot and Helly Hansen to name a few. If you need last-minute winter gear the store will probably carry something suitable and at a discount price to boot. If you are female, you are especially lucky because they have 2-3x as much women's winter clothing as men's for some reason. The low star rating is for the service. Went here to pick up ski and snowboard rentals since they are owned by epic. Unfortunately, they are inefficient and it took over an hour to get our equipment. Online reservations do not speed up the process. The checkout line was also long. read more

We had a great experience with Androo at MSO. He was attentive and helped our little one find the right snowboard boots and correct size board. MSO has a junior trade program where you pay 250$ for a new set or $150 for a used set of boots/board or boots/skis for your kid for the season. Next season you get 50% of that price to the next set. The store was busy but Androo's older partner stepped in and helped get my other kid fitted for his skis and boots (both used). You can always mix and match new and old but inventory is low on snowboarding gear so we bought new boots. FYI- we went to epic mountain rentals in Frisco forst because we have epic passes and that was a hot mess. The staff there is checked out and in an empty store the four older members at the counter left us with a clueless teenager to fit young kids for gear. Highly recommend Androo and MSO. read more

Since we ski every year without fail, the hubby and son decided instead of renting skis, they'd buy. We poked around a few stores in Denver, but the prices were crazy. We figured we'd encounter higher prices closer to ski country but decided to go ahead and check around when we got to our accommodations in Keystone. First stop was Mountain Sports Outlet. The had a great sale on Demo skis for purchase at the front door, but in the back, marked down last year model skis. Not knowing what to buy, Peter, the salesman, was extremely helpful. Worried about buying skis and not liking them, Peter recommended he rent downstairs the very skis he was thinking of purchasing. They would credit the rental cost towards the purchase of the skis. FANTASTIC! I have to say, my son rented the recommend skis, and ended up purchasing the newer version of them. Being that it was around president's day, there was a sale and Peter was able to make a deal on the skis, poles & bindings. My husband returned a couple days later and decided to buy the demos by the front door, at a deep discount, as well as a new pair of ski boots - all marked down! We spent alot, but also saved alot. Plus they even have current top of the line choices for all your mountain sports needs. On a recent visit we ran into some exceptional customer service from Bill McCall. What a fantastic experience and he truly impacted our entire trip with his insight and advice!!! Bill helped my son refit his old boots, helped us with a set of inserts that made them feel Brand New. Then he went on to recommend a ski upgrade and they were a perfect solution. We've been coming to the Keystone area as a family for over 40 years and Mountain Sports Outlet has been part of that tradition for more than half of that time. Bruce is the man!! I went to MSO thinking I needed a new pair of boots. Bruce asked all the right questions and made me feel comfortable being open about my super wide feet. After sitting with Bruce for a bit and trying on a few different pairs that didn't feel much better than the ones I'd been skiing on, Bruce asked to take a look at my boots. He quickly noticed that at extender would do the trick and asked me to come back the next day after they worked on my boots. The next day I came back and an extender had been put in, widening the area where I felt pain. He also provided me with an insole that helps tremendously. I cannot tell you how much better my feet feel after those fixes. I truly appreciated Bruce's honest advice and extended knowledge. He could have pushed me on a pair of $300-$400 boots, which would not have solved the problem. I have had negative experiences in the past with a couple big name brand ski shops in the front range, so I was hesitant to go in the first place. I would also like to give a shout out to Laura who gave me great advice when I was picking out a ski jacket. She was friendly and charismatic. I'm always impressed with the level of service I experience when I go to MSO and will continue to shop here and utilize this services. read more

This was our second year to visit Mountain Sports Outlet for the Junior Seasonal Ski package. We have 6 and 3 year old girls, and prefer to keep their skis and boots consistent for them over rentals. The associates are always friendly and helpful, making sure our needs are met as we enter the season and have room for our children's abilities to grow. We now consider this our annual first stop when we head to the mountains each year to get the kids set with gear. We were there over the busy holiday season, and my 17-year-old son's year-old ski boots were hurting his feet, so off we went to Mountain Sports Outlet, thinking that yet again we needed to purchase new boots (teenage boys and their growing feet!). Instead of simply heading off to show us new boots, Bill first asked my son what about his boots was bothering him. Bill listened carefully to my son's explanation and then asked if he could "work on them" a bit. My binding strap broke therefore I was unable to secure my snowboard boot to my binding. Bill McCall spent 45 minutes figuring out how to jerry-rig a solution. If you are looking for a mass selection of certain clothing items or boards you might find what you like here. What I never understood about this place is that it's got outlet in the name but don't be fooled, these aren't outlet prices. I've gotten a few accessories here and some NikWax, but other than that I can't really recommend this place. My last trip in I was looking for some lenses for my Oakley goggles and they didn't have hardly anything. Course, it was the end of the season so maybe that was my problem. Who knows? This place has average prices on gear, but you're probably better off at the resort shops when it comes to selection. read more

Outstanding service from Peter S., boot fitter. I had already purchased alpine ski boots from MSO based on a recent fitting elsewhere. When I actually skied the boots I was in PAIN and went back to Peter for help. He made some adjustments, spent about an hour with me. I went back to the mountain and took 2 more runs but the boots were just too small. Same day, returned to MSO and Peter spent more time with me. Ultimate resolution, Peter put me in new boots, larger size, hooked me up with rentals while my bindings were adjusted to take the new boots. He made sure the fit was right and the boot was right.
