Our server greeted us immediately super friendly and answered all of our questions also pointed out that everything was cash only, there is an ATM in the back if needed. They have a really good set up where all the servers work as a team so every employee can assist you and randomly stop by to make sure everything is good, we thought that worked really well. We ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich 2.0, Speakeasy Steak Sandwich, Bison Burger and A cheeseburger all with their hand cut French fries which are amazing. Mountain Sun has a lot of things going for it -- Stout Month, February, stands out -- and the rotating set of servers always keeps drinks full and tables cleared. It's a fun system that lets you know you're being taken care of. The food is good, especially when there are more vegan/vegetarian options on the menu, but there might not be enough plant-based options for everyone. I especially love the burger options, although they can be a bit ordinary, and the fries are perfect. The extremely Boulder-ish quirk of not accepting credit cards takes a tiny bit away from the experience, especially when the ATM isn't working or there's a line. The restaurant compensated for it with the karma envelope, where you can pay later for any reason, so we'll call it even. I don't like the fees for adjusting your order. My table of 4 accumulated $15 in fees for swapping meat for non-meat for 3 burgers. That seems like a lot. Parking can be tough on Pearl, but waits are never generally long. My fiancé and I stopped here for their birthday lunch and we were blown away by the great service, kind staff, and delicious food. The soup of the day was the potato fennel, which I ordered - It was amazing. My fiancé got the bison burger, which they said was very tasty. It was very busy when we arrived, so they let us hang out at the bar and have free samples of beer until our table was ready. We told one staff member that we were celebrating my fiancé's birthday, and multiple staff members came directly to our table to wish them a happy birthday, which was really kind. It was super busy but we able to get seated right away. Servers were very friendly, they told us they share tips so anyone could help us just flag someone. I went with their beyond burger of course and swapped out the chips for fries for a little extra cost. I was looking forward to my burger but it was very basic. Standard lettuce, tomato and onions. It was pretty dry, a bit disappointing. The fries were fresh and good. Bf had the SOB burger, green chilies, jalapeños, bacon, Jack and cheddar cheese cooked medium. Came to Boulder for a day-trip, and we were looking for a place to eat. Several people recommended we come here for lunch, and I was not disappointed! First off, the location is great. Mountain Sun is right off the Pearl Street walking mall. The restaurant itself has a hippy vibe and kind of a quirky set up - there are random figurines hanging from the ceiling. Though we came at a busy time, we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, and while we were waiting, we were able to get free beer tastings at the bar. When it came to ordering, there was plenty of variety on the menu, with several options for vegetarians as well. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and made great suggestions. They're known for their burgers, so I tried the Date Night burger, which was delicious. The heat from the poblano peppers really complemented the date puree and goat cheese. One thing to note is that they only accept cash/check. They do have an ATM in the back of the restaurant if you forget. If you don't have cash, they apparently also let you take the bill home and mail in the money later, which I've never heard of! The place is CASH ONLY, and this was my fault for not knowing before coming. I am extremely grateful the waiter told us before we ordered. So my girls and I had to pull together to see how much cash we had and we had enough for: -An order of french fries -1 order of nachos -1 pitcher of beer (and tip!) The food was your typical bar food, and it was okay. Overall if you are looking for a rowdy college place, Thursday and Friday nights are pretty loud. The place first come first serve, you seat yourself as you arrive. The menu is already on the table for fast order if you are in hurry (which we were). They only take cash so make sure you have some. I went with the speakeasy steak sandwich, it was good came out hot which is always great. A bit of spicy but not too much. If you like spicy food then it should be ok. My wife went for the chocolate cake (given we already had dinner just 5 min ago, I was still hungry!) She thought the cake was good but not worth wasting your cheat meal on it. Huge L to this bar and the staff. Had some friend come in and they were live streaming. My friend made it very clear that he was streaming for which the bartender said that it was okay. As they were ordering, the bartender approached and told them they had to leave or end the stream. They decided to leave but as my friend was apologizing, the bartender got EXTREMELY rude with him and yelled at my friend that he (my friend) knows what he is doing and the he shouldn't be filming people which he wasn't.
