Service is so-so- a little standoffish but friendly enough. The cross country skiing is pretty nice- the lobby area of the inn is classic vermont with a roaring fireplace and beautiful views of the grounds. They even offer horse drawn sleigh rides. Just stopped in for Dinner with a buddy and we loved this place. Great mountain rustic vibe and service was even better. Tried a bunch of the apps and loved our entrees as well. If in the area I would highly recommend stopping in for a nice dinner in the dinning room or go to the tavern section and get a beer and some apps. Place is worth it!! read more

Had excellent salmon at the mountaintop husband and son had the grilled ahi tuna. He declared it the best he has ever had. Loved our room "Ike's ----" King bed was so comfortable . The view of the lake in the morning was gorgeous. Delicious breakfast buffet very good coffee. Very competent staff all throughout the Inn. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for a few days to ring in the New Year. It is a great resort--including gym, spa, bar, great food all in a cozy environment. They also have sledding, cross country ski and snowshoeing winter weather permitting. It is about 15 minutes from Killington and closest to Pico Mountain. The customer service is wonderful and I would highly recommend it! A fantastic place! read more

My wife and I spent one night on the resort. We stayed in Saddelbrook D with our little puppy dog. The view from inside the lodge is beautiful and the lodge is gorgeous. The staff is super nice and they are very accommodating. The beach is really nice and the grounds are well taken care of. We ordered dinner to go and ate in our cabin. The food was decent, but a little expensive. Our only real complaint is the mattress in our cabin should have been replaced at least 5 years ago. It was a king size matress with quite a V shaped hump in the middle. It creeked and made tons of noise all night. Overall a beautiful location, great staff, but a little over priced for the comforts. read more

I have never in my life dealt with such wildly incompetent customer service. I was a guest at a wedding, booked a room, and then ended up cancelling in lieu of a different (more expensive) property on the resort. To do this, I had to call multiple times, and have a long email thread confirming this cancellation- which was a huge pain to do in and of itself. The $400 was never refunded. I called multiple times about this issue, only to be told I was wrong- they denied the cancellation ever happened and refused to refund the money- despite the paper trail where it was acknowledged in writing that the room was cancelled. I let a message with her manager, received no response. I then got my bank involved. The bank waived the charge, and I have now learned Mountain Top Inn is fighting the bank to reinstate the charge. What you are doing is criminal. You shouldn't be allowed to operate a business. read more

I chose this wonderful location for my best friends bachelorette party and it was truly an amazing weekend getaway! We rented one of the houses for a group of 12 of us to all stay in for two nights! We opted to have 2 personal chefs cook us dinner at our house so I just chose a couple of meal items for everyone! The food was amazing and they set everything up, cooked, waited on us and cleaned up after! We had the mountain top inn shuttle us to a town nearby for a night out to some bars for a little night life experience! Since this was during the summer, we took a pontoon boat ride down on the lake with wine and cheese! There were so many options for activities that catered to individual preferences! It was truly an unforgettable weekend at a reasonable cost with beautiful scenery!!! The Inn has such a comfortable cozy relaxing feel with such attention to detail with its decor. I highly recommend, as I have not only been here for this event, but also for a weekend, romantic weekend with my husband, women's weekend retreats, friends weekends several times! I'm reviewing the restaraunt. I took a party of 10 to the restaraunt last night. The service was awful. We had a reservation for 12, but when we finally found a host they advised that we should eat at the bar because the party would be too loud. Once we were finally seated they only brought us enough menus for half the party because they had a bar menu and a standard menu. Next we had a single basket of warm bread delivered to the table, but it didn't include enough bread for the entire party. Once we got our drink order in they never came back to refill glasses or ask if we needed another bottle to replace the obviously empty bottle sitting at the table mid meal. The food was underwhelming, overpriced, and at least the halibut was misrepresented on the menu. I will not be coming back and will not bring business associates back, ever, which is too bad because we have architects, designers, and sales reps into our factory regularly that we entertain. read more

They upgraded us from a cabin to a vacation rental, which was beautiful. We had to move 3 days into our stay, which was part of the agreement. The people who rented the top portion of the vacation rental (which has a max capacity of 4) had over 20 people in it. And they had a frat party, when we complained, nothing was done. On top of that, two people entered our portion of the rental house without our permission & let their dogs inside.They gave us an option of moving again to another rental which was not as nice. It would have been great if we didn't encounter this problem. read more

This was my most favorite place EVER to stay! We had a beautifully renovated cabin called, "Saddle B." It featured a flat screen with DVR so I could record my favorite shows, a fireplace, a stove, refrigerator, a bathroom with multiple shower heads, and a dog bed in case you wanted to bring your best friend! The place had horseback riding, a private beach with spectacular views... we ate at the restaurant there and it was DELISH!!! I can't wait to go back! Too many activities to mention! Although, I did beat my husband at air hockey in the game room ;) . I wish we got married there! "The Barn" was so beautiful! If you are a bride, this is a MUST for a wedding destination!!! read more

Very nice, peaceful inn Purchased a Groupon for a 2 night stay. The Inn was very quaint and peaceful and the grounds were beautiful. We stayed in a room in the main lodge which was clean and tastefully decorated with a jacuzzi tub which I loved!! The barn was a nice touch although I wish there was another way to get to it instead of having to cut through the bar. Plus, once you are outside there is a path to get there and it was not always shoveled. The Gym was very nice, however was not open at 7:00 like mentioned in the paperwork. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the restaurant and all meals were delicious! I would highly recommend it. We also signed up for the Ski Lesson and our instructor was wonderful and so patient. The trails were very well kept and vast. Overall a great trip, will definitely visit again read more

Stayed there for our honeymoon almost 3 years ago now, and we were blown away by everything. The stunning views were first, and then the great staff was so nice, and even bumped us up from our standard room to one of the vacant spacious suites at no extra charge! Stayed here for a wedding, the location was amazing, rehearsal dinner was great, and five stars to my deep tissue massage! However, my hair experience was a different story. One star - 20 minutes in a chair for $55 I had to redo myself. I asked for a high ponytail with my bangs, should be that hard, so simple. It was awful, the ponytail was half way between low and high, she didn't even use a brush to gather my hair or brush bumps out. Such a waste of time and money, and on top of it, I told the woman at the front desk, and she still charged me full price! read more

Although I've been an avid readers of reviews by other Yelpers, this is the first time I've been inspired enough by a place that I absolutely have to offer my opinion. I purchased a Living Social deal for a week night visit to the Mountain Top Inn this past spring as an anniversary gift for my husband. The expiration date was at the end of July, which turned out to be a problem due to a very busy summer schedule for my family. I called the inn to see if we could schedule our visit in August instead and they were very accommodating--a good sign! We arrived last Thursday afternoon, a beautiful summer day, to find out that we'd been upgraded to a suite, no explanation, but who is going to argue with that? Our suite was "Highmeadow" and it was gorgeous! Two-sided fireplace, luxurious bath, lovely king-sized bed and a million dollar view of the nearby lake and mountains. The staff at the inn was great--very gracious and helpful. The food in the tavern was great--the best BLT I think I have ever had, not to mention some terrific local beer. The Inn is an oasis of solitude--we went kayaking out on the lake (actually a reservoir) and the only sounds we could hear were the breeze and the birds--paradise! We awoke to the sun rising over the mountain tops and had a great breakfast on the patio. If we weren't already married, we would definitely book this Inn--the scenery is indescribably beautiful. We're thinking that maybe it's time to renew our vows here! We are obviously already coming up with reasons to return--a true paradise of New England beauty! read more

Just recently stayed at the jewel for my best friends wedding. The bride had a team of make up artists and hairdressers come from 5 elements day spa in Rutland. Tracy Lazell the master stylist from 5 elements and Brittany cook the most amazing make up artist came to the house at 9am and orchestrated a masterpiece of the most fabulous up dos and beautiful make up. We all felt so cared for and beautiful. The timing and organization was too notch. Fair pricing too. The wedding was great too! read more

This place was breathtaking with the foliage...I'm sure it's just as beautiful without. We stayed in a cabin, which was nice, however the mattress was not the best quality. It was so firm (spring coil) and we woke up sore in the morning. A pillow top/ better mattress would have made our stay better as far as quality of sleep. For the price of the cabin you'd think it would have a more comfortable mattress. But the cabin itself was amazing, very clean and the staff very friendly. Breakfast was really good!!!! So was the tavern/restaurant! It would have been nice had the gift shop stayed open later, or had we had a fridge in our room to keep drinks cool considering the gas station close by closes at 5 as well. It was surprising to have a dishwasher and microwave but no mini fridge. All in all it was a fantastic stay considering the small things that could have made our stay even better. We would for sure recommend staying there and I think it would be a GREAT place for a wedding (one was going on while we were there!) read more

Stopped in for lunch yesterday while on a "mystery" day trip. Heard about this spot for a long time, but had never taken the time to drive up here. A bit out of the way, but well worth the drive. Once we arrived, I was blown away be the beauty of the Inn and the surrounding view of the mountains. The Inn is rustic in appearance, but comfortably up to date. For lunch my wife and I ordered sandwiches (huge); I chose the BLT with truffle fries and my wife chose the grilled cheese with sweet potato fries. We ended up trading so we ended up with a half of each. Both were excellent! The service was prompt and friendly. This is definitely a spot worthy of a return visit. read more

I am basing this review only on the meal I had at the Tavern. I had the pork belly app which was very good, but a little over priced for the portion. My main gripe is the ancho chili half chicken I had as an entrée. First of all, I didn't know it was possible to dry out dark meat chicken. And I was anticipating a smoky, chocolaty chili flavor from ancho chili's, but none was present. And they were better off calling it a half Cornish hen. For $24, I feel like I was robbed. Very disappointed in the dish. I should have ordered the Chilean sea bass special they had, because it looked very good. Overall, the prices were too high for what you get. The drink prices were very reasonable and our server was very nice. read more

AHHHH-MAZING!!! this place is absolutely perfect!! my husband and i booked three night here in october for a mini honeymoon via a living social deal, and im not sure ive ever been so impressed. the views are to die for, the inn is gorgeous and cozy, staff is amazing, and restaurants are awesome (we had dinner in the Highlands Dining Room -- incredible!!). so many activities to do and so many things to see in the surrounding areas. i am now requiring that we visit at least once a year. if you have the chance.. We ended up at the Mountain Top Inn for some food and drinks on a Friday night. It was around 8:30 pm, so we didn't want to have a huge meal that late at night and opted for ordering some burgers. We got our order served in probably 25 minutes or so but my sister's burger was delivered truly rare. She asked that she wanted a burger cooked medium. The waitress took it back and in less than 5 minutes, another burger arrived. The newly arrived burger ended up being lukewarm and probably came from a warming tray since it's not likely you would cook a new burger that quickly. Needless to say, she returned that as well. I'm not sure who is in charge of the kitchen but sending out a burger from a warming tray just doesn't cut it. My burger was ok but nothing that you couldn't get at a Ruby Tuesday and come to think of it, Ruby Tuesday probably would have been better. This place needs to step up its game, it has all the ingredients to be a great place, it just needs someone to take cooking seriously. read more

Yes, as good as it gets! Came for a destination winter wedding, and absolutely can't say enough about the staff and facilities. Every (legal) need was taken care of almost before request. As it snowed several inches each night over the 4 nights we were here, snow removal could have been an issue. Not here! Every morning we awoke to find driveways and roads freshly plowed and walkways shoveled. Food at the restaurant/tavern was top notch, as was the bar service. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience we had at the Mountain Top Inn. We stayed in the Fox Hollow house and not only was the view from the yard breathtaking, but we had our own private pond to swim in! The entire resort has a laid-back attitude with the friendliest staff, clean facilities and the perfect mix of modern amenities with old-school Vermont charm. The pool is saltwater, which means no chlorine sting and it was never crowded despite the four very warm sunny days we were there. The waterfront is mellow with a wide, sandy beach, a fire pit and a variety of kayaks, canoes and SUPs to borrow. The lake is large but very quiet - the most activity we saw on the water was a loon. We have two small kids and they loved every minute of it - from playing in the grass to exploring the lake and pond to horseback riding. This resort was much quieter than many we have been to, which meant much more personalized service and time to actually relax, which we did. read more

Awwww yeeeeeah. You know sometimes the birds gotta fly the coup and run off with that fine lady ya know? This is the place to saddle up on that grassy knoll and watch your daughter's mother's cousin get hitched with that slippery pickle and run off to the lake for a quick baptism if ya know what im sayin. When i first got to the hotel here i was friggin pissed at the staff for being so rude, but It turns out I was arguing with a bear statue in the front lobby for close to 40 minutes before the hotel manager escorted me to my room. Yeah, i was a little drunk, but you don't drive 4 hours through the Green Mountain state without polishing off a couple of six packs, and you sure as shit don't show up to a wedding without a blood alcohol level that'll make a Mexican mule look like a Protestant hockey player if ya catch my drift. So after crushing the mini bar up at the room we hopped in a van and went on down to the ceremony. I heard it was beautiful, but i missed it cause I had 30$ on the Dodgers game and it was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, so i headed down to the bar to check it out cause i heard they had an HD tv. I mean, you see one wedding you've seen em all am i right? As for the reception, it was top notch. Singin, dancin, feelin loose, hell i even saw Danny's grandma doin the jitterbug with her busted ass hip and a peg leg, so you know it was a damn good time. And to the staff member who cleaned my vomit out of the photo booth, you're a saint. But sometimes you gotta boot-n-rally back to that dance floor cause they're playin Journey again, and i haven't heard this damn song since like 1986 so you best believe I'm takin my damn trousers off and flappin my pickle. So to all you Yelpers lookin to get hitched up-this is the place to do it. 5 stars. read more

I loved my 5 day stay at The mountain top inn. The rooms were comfortable and the shower had a variety of scents of soaps and hair products. The menu was delicious and i recommend the pasta, although the children's portions were large. The first day was great. The pool was very nice and it was a calm and enjoyable atmosphere. The horseback riding was expensive but my family had a great experience. It also was very clean. I certainly have no complaints, although on the first night a wedding was held and the party was very loud. In the area, there was a maple syrup making building were we buy our favorite Vermont Syrup and that was fun to see. We visited Ben n Jerry's ice cream and that was nice for the kids, although a very queer event happened there. My favorite place was Vermont Teddy bear. Although the prices were a bit steep, I would definitely recommend it. Even if you aren't interested in any of the local attractions, the hotel has much to do. From fishing, to swimming, to boat rides, to pony rides! We will be returning this August :) -Taylor C read more

We had an incredibly positive wedding experience with MTI, and all of our guests did as well. Our prior trips helped us decide to come here. The guest houses we stayed in (Trailside Cottages) were wonderful, the landscape is wonderful, the food was good, and the staff everywhere was very friendly. MTI is so accustomed to doing weddings that the staff account for every tiny little detail and are very receptive to the ideas that the bride and groom bring in. Our coordinator was Cassie and she was wonderful - very detail oriented, understanding, timely, and kind. Cassie answered all of our questions and was incredibly helpful (and patient!) with us and our families the whole weekend. We did a welcome party at the beach the night before - it was really great and with the separate spaces, you don't really feel if there's another wedding going on. The wedding day went so smoothly; MTI helped with shuttling us around and attending to all the tiny details on our schedule and for our decorations. We used the MTI spa for our services and though pricy for the area, they were great. For what we spent, there is no way we could have had the same experience elsewhere. Have never been out to eat on Thanksgiving because we have always cooked for others, but this year we decided to try Mountain Top Inn for their Thanksgiving Day dinner. There was plenty of food and a wonderful assortment. The salad bar had everything one could ask for. Soups were delicious. Main meal was great and the desserts were plentiful with several pies, cookies, etc. I really can't complain about the food. However, when I'm eating, I want to be warm. It was freezing in the barn! We kept our coats on and by the time we had dessert I asked the waitress to have them turn up the heat. She said she was cold too (and she was moving around)!! I actually warmed my hands on the coffee cup! The turkey was warm when I got it and by the time I ate it, it was cold! It's a beautiful Vermont atmosphere, with great food but if you have to eat with your coat on, there's no sense in going! read more

I loved the Mountain Top Inn...until I wanted to have my wedding there. I had been to the Inn for short weekend trips and thought it would be the perfect place for my wedding. I contacted the inn- they were not as gracious and welcoming as I expected- the gentleman that coordinates weddings came off as arrogant. Despite this, I continued to communicate with them (with great difficulty and frustration because my emails were not responded to in a timely manner) and proceeded to plan my wedding. I was picking menu selections and talking to people about my plans when I got some bad feedback from friends that live in the Rutland/Killington area. I was told that the weddings that they attended at the Mountain Top Inn were beautiful but the people that ran the Inn were terrible to work with and it soured the experience. Ultimately, I decided that it is a great place to go for a weekend trip to escape but it is not a place to have a wedding. I found another Inn in the Killington area to host my wintertime Vermont wedding. read more

We hosted our daughters wedding for 200 at the Mountaintop Inn last weekend. I cannot say enough about this place. It is truly magical!! The food is five star. Each and every meal was exquisitely prepared and beautifully presented. We received many many positive comments about how delicious the food was. The setting is absolutely beautiful. The ceremony was held on the knoll under the arbor. The views were spectacular. The reception was in the barn, which is a blank canvas you can use to create the room of your dreams, or use as is as a rustic setting. We hosted two receptions on the patio, which again, has amazing views. All of the rooms at the Inn and the surrounding houses were immaculate and beautifully decorated. The housekeeping staff was very helpful all weekend. Our wedding planner Chelsea was amazing and made the whole process easy and stress free. The spa is band new and again, five star. Shout out to Robin who gave me the best massage I have EVER received. Charlene, the manager helped us to arrange all of the bridal hair and nails for the weekend. Our guests used all of the facilities, including horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, skeet shooting, frisbee golf, and relaxing.... All in all it was a flawless, beautiful, five star weekend and wedding!! read more
