Beet salad
Eileen L.

The place is gorgeous! I loved the look. The staff were helpful and easy to talk to. The only thing missing in our meal was seasoning. We started strong with the Brussel sprouts, I recommend asking for the aioli on the side. I don't think they need it and it was overpowering. We had the roast corn and chips. This was everyone's favorite but 2 out of 3 of us thought it would be better warm. Wine, cocktail and beer lists all looked good. It was lunch so we ordered salads. They were all extremely bland. I had the beet salad and my friend has the grilled chicken Caesar. The chicken ceasar was good but the chicken was dry and needed seasoning. The beet salad has no flavor and no texture. It could do with a nut topping maybe and a heavier sauce to stand up to the beets.

The food was amazing and would come again. Vibe was nice and service was phenomenal. The portion size was good too and price was great.

It was a little hard to find this place because it's tucked around the back of the building. It's got a really nice courtyard and I would love to get back there in the summer to sit outside. We visited just to have a drink and a snack at the bar this time. They had a small tap list, but the beers they had on tap were good choices. We ate the housemade chips with blue cheese dressing and they were very good.

Cute spot, especially the outdoor seating. I love that everything on the menu is local. Food was good. The raspberry mojito mocktail was awesome!

The best restaurant in this area. Excellent menu, quality food, and the best service in the area.

Stopping thru while traveling, one of the best ribeyes I have had cooked perfectly, sorry for the bad lighting as I ate at the bar, great friendly service. My wife got the Scallop salad and it was excellent as well.

Best meal I've had in a long time and by far away best I've had in Vermont! The brussel sprouts were phenomenal.

What is the Quality of service?

They were great. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, took a little long to order but I️ think they were trying to give us time to explore their menu.

We were seated without waiting, and I ordered from the extensive beer menu after a tasting. I had the rhubarb rumble (something like that) and it was great! We both ordered brick oven pizzas. Hubs got his ushe, pepperoni and onion. I had the white pizza--garlic mozzarella. We both really enjoyed our pizzas and the atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and it really didn't take long for our order. We'd come back!

I only assume she ran the kitchen- and she was NOT happy with the staff. One person even told her he wouldn't be talked to that way anymore. It was extremely tense and we were all uncomfortable. Her screaming orders and belittling staff was louder than any music or conversation. Waitresses were cringing taking orders trying to hear over her. We were there on a Saturday night at 6pm and they ran out of small pizzas and calzones as we sat down. One person got poutine that was ice cold, and the gravy was sour with no taste and cold. Chicken wings were just large breaded chicken tenders with some sauce drizzled over the top of them. Not great atmosphere with the incredible demeaning kitchen staff and food was not good.

The sugar house coffee was a standout. Rich, smooth, and exactly what you want on a cold Vermont morning. We also tried the handmade biscuit, warmed and buttered, and it genuinely felt like a hug in biscuit form. Shoutout to Ethan for being incredibly helpful and thoughtful with recommendations. With his guidance, we built a fantastic sandwich with sourdough, hash browns, avocado, green sauce, and chili crunch. He understood the assignment. Messy, hearty, and delicious. The vegan wrap was also flavorful and satisfying. We left happy, full, and already talking about coming back. Highly recommend Speakeasy Café, especially if you're looking for strong vegetarian and vegan options in Rutland.
