Dr. Schechter did a bridge of three teeth that came off twice. He fixed it the first time. Now it happened again ( in less than two years) and he is retired due to a hand injury but he is teaching other dentists. I sent him a message reporting this issue to him and asking him to solve it... ( he gave me 5 years warranty!). Of course I did not hear back from him and now I have to re-do the work in a different dental office and pay for it again. I don't think this dentist should be teaching. read more

He is a superior dentist! My former dentist and a specialist he referred me to were both agreeing that it must be my upper right rear tooth that needed to come out...even though the x-rays showed nothing! They were sending me to a 3rd specialist farther away, and I really was losing confidence. An employee of my wife's raved about Dr. Gershfeld and he was far more local, so I decided to go see him instead. After x-rays of the same area showed nothing, he VISUALLY said he thinks the problem was LOWER right rear cracked tooth. Took another x-ray, and could barely see it...but that was it! Imagine, my former dental group almost took out the wrong teeth. Dr. G proceeded and there was so little pain during the several visits that resulted in removing a wisdom tooth and root canal for the cracked tooth with a permanent cap. Very happy...and did not need to go to a bunch of other specialists for each procedure. read more

Just came from an "appointment" with Dr. Gershfeld at which I was supposed to receive several injections of Arrestyn (sp?) in my gums. This is after I spent $700 getting my gums "deep cleaned" in December. At that appointment, I was told I needed the Arrestyn, and that it would be $900, but I should see if my insurance would cover it. As it happens, they did approve it, and there was no co-pay because I already had hit my annual out-of-pocket max for 2013. I called Dr. Gershfeld's office to let them know of the approval, and they said they were arranging shipment with the insurance company, the drugs would be delivered the following week, and they would be administered this morning. But this morning, I was told that the drugs were never shipped and that it was my fault because I supposedly never called the insurance company to arrange payment of a co-pay that didn't exist, and would have been automatically charged to my HSA card even if it did. This kind of buck-passing and refusal to take responsibility doesn't wash with me. Now we're in a new year, and I have new insurance, and would have to pay the full freight for a procedure that another dentist has told me I don't even need! If I ever do get it done, it will be in a different dentist's office, that's for sure. read more

Dr. Gershfeld is one of the best dentist I have ever encountered. He's been my dentist for years . I have a new crown on my tooth and for some reason the cement never stayed bonded and I think it was the materials because the crown came off a couple times. Besides re-cementing each time and putting it back on, when he changed labs (and because he is a man of honor and integrity) he replaced my crown from scratch, using his new lab, at a fair price. Its great now. I prefer not to use novocaine for any crown (yes I know most people think I'm absolutely crazy but I HATE those shots) but Dr. Gershfeld is very careful when working on me without Novocaine and I hardly feel ANYTHING!! When I do need Novocaine the shots are almost painless - best I've ever had anyway - and he will do it so that you're not numb all day. Dr. G is a really nice guy too with a great chair side manner. And he always checks to see if anything is hurting. His office is super clean and nice, uses modern technology and digital imaging and his staff is wonderful and friendly. I honestly wasn't even going to write this review but because there office keeps calling me and texting me to come back in for a cleaning it's time to let the world know the truth. Stay away** I went in for a broken tooth to see Roger G Gershfeld. He did x-rays on my tooth and said my teeth were totally fine. I was in shock all he suggested was coming back on Monday for a cleaning so I waited all weekend in pain while my friends and family made fun of me for "swollen gums". I went back for my cleaning and this was when things got really interesting. The dental assistant who was cleaning my teeth as she went back for the last right molar gave me a face of shock she gasped and said "oh my god, your tooth is cracked all the way down in half!" This was when Roger G Gershfeld came in and finally re-looked at the X-rays to see clearly that my tooth was broken. He put his nasty cigarette smelling hands in my mouth and told me I needed a root canal. He said if I pay cash I could get a discount, I went along with it made the appointment then went to another dentist for a second opinion. The other dentist said I did not need a root canal like Roger G Gershfeld had suggested and repaired my broken tooth for $100 and gabe me a free cleaning. Stay away all this man and office wants is your money, they want the quick fix and do not care about their patients. read more

Okay bad business. When I made my appointment with this place the girl on the phone asked me who was I insured with and she made an appt. for me. I guess they are hurting for business because she texted me five times and called me to make sure that I was going to keep my appt. So I take time off of work to go there and just before the dentist was starting to work on me a girl bust into the room telling me that they do not take my insurance and quoted me a price for the service that I came there for. Dr. Schechter is the best dentist I have ever had. About a year and a half ago he replaced to crowns for me that I had done in Florida before I moved to California. He did a great job then and they have been great. Unfortunately, this past Friday, one of my crowns came off and I called my friend Laura who is one of his dental hygienist and asked her what should I do. She told me to call the dentist office and see if he could help me, but when I called they were already closed, but I left a message for Dr. Schechter anyway. I thought I would have to wait since the office was closed, but he returned my call within 30 minutes. Dr. Schechter told me to come in and he came back to the office and saw me to repair my crown. I am very grateful for Dr. Schechter doing this for me and for also recommending a specialist to help correct the problem that caused the crown to come off. The short story: an unprofesional dentist office that cancels your appointments without telling you and a doctor who smokes and drinks coffee and talks on his cell phone on the job, and rushes through your work. Pros: 1.) My hygienist was nice and gentle, did a thorough cleaning, and spotted a cavity on a front tooth that I hadn't noticed. 2.) It's true that you can hardly even feel Dr. Gershfeld's shots. Cons: 1.) Dr. Gershfeld steps outside between patients with a coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other...and while talking on his cell phone. Such a good example! Then you have to endure the smell of smoke while he works on you. 2.) The X-rays take a long time and are a bit painful. I'm used to the ones that the machine goes all around your head and voila your done, but here, the X-rays are taken one by one. 3.) They don't use the technology that I'm used to dentists using in spotting cavities and it feels like a guessing game. I tell Dr. Gershfeld I have a toothache and expect a cavity. He says I have 1 cavity, but not on the tooth I mentioned. Then he overlooks the quite obvious one that the hygienist has to point out. So now it's up to two. I say, "but not on the one that's hurting me, huh?" He looks again and decides there must be one that he can't see. Now we're up to 3. 4.) My husband and I show up for our 2nd appts to get fillings and the receptionist gives us a puzzled look. Apparently a couple called to cancel their appt and someone thought it was us. Oh hell no, we took off a day of work just for this! It's a Friday afternoon and the receptionist tells me the doctor is "trying to get out of here." She tells me they can do 2 of the 3 fillings they were supposed to do today. She assures me THREE times that, yes, my husband will get his 1 filling done. Dr. Gershfeld rushes through my fillings and when they give me the mirror to inspect the work, I see that he completely missed the obvious cavity on my front tooth (so what exactly was he doing on that tooth?) and I call him back in, where he rushes through it. After 2+ hours in the waiting room my husband never gets in for his scheduled appt. He lost a whole day of pay for nothing, and I have to come back in also. Then, some girl (we thought it was his girlfriend but later found out it was a patient who is "like a sister") and Dr. Gershfeld get into a loud argument for the whole office to hear. 5.) I go back in for my 3rd filling and I'm not pleased with the work. My tooth now feels like a bowl, not a tooth...and it still hurts days later, which makes me wonder if a cavity was even the problem or if he just drilled out half my tooth, that I'll never get back, for nothing. 6.) The fillings are rough and uncomfortable and I have to ask again and again for them to be polished. 7.) Only 4 days later, I'm flossing and my first filling that he rushed through comes out. Now I have to go back AGAIN. read more

I have an email that I wrote to the receptionist this morning which I plan to post, but overall: DO NOT GO HERE! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NONSTOP HARASSMENT. First off, the dentist was nice, though I didn't meet with him long, the hygienist was very sweet. However, I give this establishment one star because, after I missed an appointment for my son, the receptionist scolded me like a child for forgetting and verbally attacked me for being confused by my insurance coverage. This just may be the rudest, and most shocking I have ever been treated in a professional establishment -- BY RECOMMENDATION. Never again will myself or this person and their family, ever go here again. Not only did she say shocking words over the phone and reprimanded me via email, she also CALLED my work place, my boss, AND emailed me, while "cc-ing" my workplace in order for her complaints to be heard. It was psychotic and disgraceful. Dr. Gershfeld is great at what he does. I had a tooth that cracked while I was in the Air Force in Boston... about 2 years before meeting Dr. G. It had been a constant problem and the cap kept falling off. I don't know if Dr. G's Eastern European long-ago background gave him a different perspective but somehow this fine fellow fixed what two other dentists were unable to (after multiple attempts per each). Thank you again Dr. G. I do believe the other reviews that he is a smoker. I believe it. People sometimes have these small vices. But he is a good fellow with a heart of goodness and he even helped me when I was right there on La Brea and was getting static from the cops one time. What a fellow really. I went here for the first time the other day and it was a good experience. The office is clean and modern which is always a relief at a dentist's office. The hygienist was really sweet and did a thorough job, and the dentist was very pleasant and and friendly. I had been Dr. Gershfeld's patient for 10 years and relocated to Las Vegas 5 years ago. I have been to several dentists out here and have not loved ANY of them, infact the first few years here I actually DROVE back to LA just to see Dr. Gersh. I have not had a cleaning in a few years ( i'm so bad) and now at 7 mos pregnant found myself with a raging pain in my cheek that moved into my eyeball and bones of the right side of my face. I went to urgent care here in Vegas and they said it was an abscessed tooth, gave me amoxicillin and sent me on my way. I called Dr. Gersh later on that day and he said, " Amy! You are in your 3rd trimester it's SO important you need an emergency oral surgery. " He went on to tell me the baby could get sepsis, which can kill an unborn child. They didn't tell me any of that at urgent care, i knew i needed to get in to see a dentist, but I had no idea how urgent the situation was and wouldnt have had it not been for Dr. Gersh. Even though he was out of town at a dental conference he followed up with me checking on me the next day to make sure I had everything taken care of. THATS SERVICE MY FRIENDS! Earlier this year I had a filling fall out and had been neglecting a slowly developing tooth ache. Dr. Gershfeld is a godsend. After not visiting a dentist for over five years, I was sure my mouth was riddled with cavities and problems. I actually only went in because i had a wisdom tooth that was infected and needed immediate attention. Dr. Gershfeld made an appointment for me that day - squeezing me in. He fixed the problem without a hitch, and as painless as possible. He also filled a cavity for me a few months later and it was the easiest filling i've ever experienced. No pain whatsoever. I don't have dental insurance, so I paid out of pocket for all of my services and I didn't feel they were outrageously priced. I've read many reviews on here about people being charged ridiculous amounts for services - but I always ask in advance what the costs are associated with what i'm having done, and get a full price beforehand. If something needs to be added during the procedure, I still always ask before it's done. Therefore there are no surprises when I get to the 'checkout' counter. read more

Dr. Schechcter is by far the best dentist that I have ever found. I had been through a lot of terrible and mediocre dentists before I found Dr. Schechcter. I had severe trauma from the dentist I went to as a child who drilled me repeatedly without Novocaine. The trauma was triggered every time I went to the dentist and it was always a terrible experience. I explained it to every dentist I went to, but it was not until I went to Dr. Schechcter that I was able to have my teeth worked on without being traumatized. He is so kind and sincere as is his entire staff, and they were very sensitive to my issues and I was able to let them go in less than a year. Now I look forward to going to Dr. Schechcter. Not only do I love seeing him and the staff, but I get the best quality dental work I've ever had, with no pain or anxiety. He is very good at what he does and very much a perfectionist. Ten years ago I arrived from Russia and met with several dentists to discuss my general dental care. I was told I needed work ranging from extraction to a bridge. My mother works in the dental industry back in Russia and I assumed that the care in the US would be similar. After giving it a lot of thought and the importance of a smile, I decided to go ahead and have him work on my teeth including extractions, implants, crowns. It was a significant commitment on my part and the commitment on Dr. Gershfeld's part was equally strong. The consideration, care, professionalism and the quality of work was exceptional. Not only did Dr. Gershfeld attend to my dental care, he gave me something so much more important, a natural smile once again. A sense of pride to show my teeth. dr. roger gershfeld, dmd, by far is one of the best dentist in the los angeles, area. i have been a patient since 2009. his professionalism and excellence in dentistry is truely a gift. i have been to many dentist in my life and by far dr. gershfeld, has surpassed all of them with his excellent dental chair education and comfort level he provides his patients. his dental assistant cedric is a valuable asset to his office and assists dr, gershfeld with many routine as well as complex procedures. over the past 3 years i have had extensive dental work performed, such as, route canals, replaced filings, a few new crowns and repair of a bridge, his professional education and experience have shown that while undergoing the procedure of a route canal, i did not experience any pain or discomfort during or after each procedure. during each procedure dr. gershfeld, checks routinely if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, his code is for the patient to raise their hand and let him know if that is happening. dr, gershfeld exhibits the highest degree of patient safety and concern in all dental related matters. his front office staff are very efficient in handling insurance issues and inform the patient in advance of their personal financial obligations in regards to deductibles or co-insurance related matters. i believe he is contacted with most of the ppo's plans that are available to his office. the office recently went through an upgrade with new furniture and new colors in the waiting room and dental rooms that are pleasant in nature and help the patient feel they are in a professional environment. his office is located in a central area of hollywood and parking is usually very accessible for patients. on a scale of 1 to 10, dr. gershfeld is an absolute 20. i cannot express my sincere appreciation enough for being one of many satisfied patients and feel absolutely fully secure with his dental services, to the point if i would move to the east coast, i would make arrangements to come twice a year for dental services from dr, roger gershfeld. i believe it is not an easy task in locating a dentist of his premiere performance and excellence in his field, and i do not plan to interview or searh for a new dentist in any future time. if there an award available from yelp, for professionals in the dental field, i recommend dr. gershfeld without any reservation to be highly considered. respectfully submitted, thomas "tucker" goho, mha, dha read more

I have been to many dentists but Dr. Gershfeld is the best. I had one root canal and a crown done here. I like the services here. The assistants are so kind. They treat me so nice that I feel bad for the way I treat other people. They inspire me to be kind, seriously you have to come here to see how kind they are. I rarely see any nice people like this in Los Angeles. The doctor remember my name after the first meeting, given that I a difficult asian name to remember. The work done here is much nicer compare to other places that I had been to. My root canal here was not hurt at all. Other doctor used black cement for my teeth, but Dr. Gershfeld uses white cement; it makes my teeth look natural and nice.
