Dr. Gershfeld is AMAZING!!! I've been going to him for about 4 years and he's done the best work- out of any dentist I've ever been to. There is no pain and his work is perfect- flawless. He's very friendly and has a great sense of humor which makes the whole process much easier! His staff are so friendly and welcoming and will always work around your schedule for getting an appointment. They have Direct TV for every room and the place is very clean and relaxing. My teeth were in horrible condition, mostly from neglect on my part. Dr. Gershfeld fixed it all with a minimal amount of pain and a great deal of concern (and we're talking multiple root canals, crowns, fillings, etc...). The man is a dental artist. I can smile again thanks to Dr. Gershfeld and his staff (all of whom are awesome!). I've seen some poor reviews on here and I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience with this office. I came here for a checkup after... a very long time without seeing a dentist . The entire staff here is great. The office manager at the front desk was very kind and straightforward, I filled out a few forms and waited only a few minutes before being escorted into a room and speaking with a dental assistant. The assistants were very friendly and we chatted a lot, which helps the whole "dentist" ordeal feel less uncomfortable. They have free cable (and give you the remote!) while you wait in the chair. For the Xrays, they used a digital device which is so much better than the old-fashioned foam chunks with real film attached to them. Maybe this is the standard now, but I haven't been to a dentist in years and the sharp film corners were not something I was excited for. The dental assistant was incredibly patient while I struggled to keep the Xray device in my mouth. He even gave me a tip (shift your jaw sideways! who knew?) to stop me from gagging on the device. After the Xrays, Dr Gershfeld came in and spent some time poking around and doing normal checkup stuff. He analyzed the xrays with me, and was very patient and pointed out each area of concern from the xray in my mouth with a mirror. After the checkup, the Dr gave me a summary and treatment plan. I think for a moment that I did see some dollar signs in his eyes as he began to list treatments (which I definitely do need) without hesitating - even "optional" treatments, such as invisalign, were rapidly listed as an overall treatment plan. Even after I explained that I was temporarily uninsured, I did feel like I was pulling teeth (haha) just to convince them that I wasn't able to schedule another appointment just yet. I do also understand their desire to keep clients and schedule appointments - they are a business after all. After my persistence, the dentist helped me determine that I could probably wait a month or two before coming back, while I waited for insurance to come through. The office manager came by with an organized list for all of the treatments suggested by the Dr, with prices listed very clearly next to each treatment. I asked the office manager for a copy of the treatment summary, which seemed to make her uncomfortable (maybe you're not supposed to ask?) so I had to try to remember the approximate prices before I left. On my way out, the office manager gave me a few options for affording future treatment in the event that the insurance doesn't come through, which I appreciated. I could tell she wanted me to receive the care I needed. Definitely an excellent experience overall, just be sure to ask the right questions and get all of the information you need - I suppose this applies for any medical office! I will definitely be back for further treatment once I am able to do so! read more

I don't have dental insurance but he really worked with me financially. His work is A++. He's incredibly gentle to the point that I never felt the novicane needle. Please be aware that this business changed ownership about 6 months ago. The previous dentist, Dr. Schecter, was terrific. I believe the five star reviews are in reference to him and not the new dentist. (Although his dental assistants are excellent.) I was unimpressed with the new owner and his office policies. When the new owners took over in late 2018, I was sent a bill for about $200 for a consultation my son had in 2010. I always pay my bills on time and figured this was in error. Unfortunately, I haven't had the credit card I would have used for about 8 years, so I can't locate any information on whether or not I paid the bill. I paid the bill, but I felt the office was rude and offensive in its handling of the matter. So for $200 they have lost my family's business. read more

I came to the office with severe gum and tooth pain and have grown tired of pulling food out of the small holes in all my teeth. It had been over five years since I had dental work so the Dr created a plan to drill every tooth that didn't have prior dental work while replacing a crown that was only a year old. The work took over 5 months as the Dr only spent an hour at a time doing dental work over the course of 7 appointments. During the "process" I continued to complain of more tooth pain, especially in a specific molar, I noticed the teeth he was filling were not completed and cavity holes remaining were never sealed. Also, the composit material, possibly temporary bonding, was crumbling out of my mouth while eating soft foods and salads afterwards. I went back to the office 5x after to correct the issue and complain about my treatment and the Dr scolded me and told me "Don't tell me how to do my job" then he proceeded to grind down the natural bone of my teeth with a drill as he completed the $3,000+ dental work he suggested. He even tried to convince me to grind down a 10+ year old crown on my front tooth to compensate for his poor dental fillings while altering my bite and natural straightness of my teeth. The last time I came in to have the work corrected, the Dr became irate and began screaming at me in the lobby and accused me of grinding my teeth (which I've never done in my entire life!), then he turned his back and hid in an office. I explained to his staff this is EXTREMELY unprofessional considering the wonderful reviews on Yelp and his demeanor towards other patients. The lesson is: DO NOT PAY HIM CASH!!!!! Since the teeth were never filled and sealed properly, my mouth is now inflamed, my gums began to bleed during daily brushing/flossing and I am losing more natural bone while my teeth deteriorate and darken less than 6 months from the initial appointment. I have seen other dentists after this and will now require dentures or permanent implants and I'm not even close to 40yrs old. IF ANYONE HAS A GOOD LAWYER, please hit me up because I'd need help in dealing with this bully and his intimidation tactics. He basically robbed me and refused basic dental care while ruining my natural, permanent teeth and told me it was my fault. read more

last year around March/April of 2011, I was having these weird feelings of an electrical shock in a tooth. It was a tooth I have a filling in and I was afraid i needed a root canal. I went to my dentist, who's in Riverside, because that's where I used to live but now I live in Los Angeles. That dentist told me that everything was fine and to just keep an eye out for that tooth to see how it goes. I still had the pain in my tooth and couldn't take it. While at work one day, i looked up a dentist near my work. I found Dr. Gershfeld and looked him up on Yelp. Everyone was saying how good he was and that you didn't feel the shot. I didn't believe it but i had called to make an appointment because I couldn't wait anymore. it was a Friday evening when I called and they got me in on Monday morning. They took X-rays and the Dr. said that I needed that filling replaced....the same one that my Dentist said was fine. After Dr Gershfeld replaced that filling, I was fine. No more pain. I was so happy. I was always unhappy with my teeth and with my smile. I hated smiling in pictures and I was so self conscious. I talked to him about this and we discussed my options. I decided to replace my old metal fillings with white metal fillings. I'm still not done, but i am 100% happier. I also decided to get Veneers. One thing i failed to mention was that I'm deathly afraid of Dentists. I was so scared to go through this entire process. Once everything was done. I was so happy! To this day, I can't stop smiling, i'm much more confident and people notice my smile. The only downside is that I did have to pay in full before the entire process was complete I was able to make 3 payments. If I could have made monthly payments over a year or so, it would have worked better for me. In the end, everything worked out and I'm so happy. Dr. Gershfeld and his staff are so welcoming, nice and caring. I've referred a few friends to Dr. Gershfeld and I will continue doing so. The most important thing for me is that it's pain free (or as much as it could be) and customer service. I was happy and still am. :) read more

This is the second time I am posting this review. I was basically bribed by the office to take it down to get my medical records sent to another doctor. The biggest issue with this office - and it's a major one - is the TERRIBLE HORRIBLE NASTY PERNICIOUS BULLYING FRONT OFFICE. Her name is Anna, and just thinking about having to call her gives me hives. Maybe the doctor is great for some people and their simple issues. Here is what happened when there was a complication: I saw Dr. Gershfeld two years ago. He had a nice bedside manner, but made an error in my treatment. It may have been an honest mistake, but I ended up having to see two other doctors (who diagnosed the real problem quickly) and spending money to fix it. He finally repaid me some of the money, but not even half of it. Still, he might be a great dentist for most people. What really bothered me was dealing with Anna. She was always, always stressful to handle, especially with pricing issues. I won't even start on that. But when there was a medical issue.... the horror movie began. I wanted a minute on the phone with the doctor to talk about the error. She became a massive bully. Her customer service involves constantly rudely interrupting, raising her voice until you have to raise your voice, and the worst: She has this crazy habit of recounting for you the events of your treatment history - not only with that dentist, but other dentists. She wasn't there for any of it. Worse, she always tells the story wrong. The facts are completely wrong! She tells it to you her way to justify why she can't help you. And you can't speak! She is a wall of nasty sound, with this pretense of being helpful. When you finally raise your voice to get in one word, she acts like a victim. Also, when I told her I really preferred to discuss this with the dentist, whenever he had the time (especially as her facts were wrong), she started yelling at me that she used to work in the back and knew what she was talking about. Oy. I let it go. I bad-yelped and moved on. Then I needed records for my insurance. I called. She puts me on hold for awhile and comes back with, "Well, we would like to help you, but if you remember you wrote this yelp review...." Nevermind that her behavior here is questionably legal and definitely unethical. Those are my records!! I couldn't handle any more Anna. I said, "I'll take it down." I got my records. I'm currently seeing a total gem of a dentist with a dream office. He said I could repost now. read more

So here is my issue....being 30+ years old I have never had a dentist grind down my teeth. Additionally, gird down my teeth without even asking if it was ok to do so. I went in to get a cavity filling and I left with half a tooth on my tooth that wasn't even the one with the cavity. I guess it was in the way. Actually, what's funny is that my mother warned me that he would do this and I thought he would at least ask if it was ok to proceed with the grinding before it happened. Again, my mother 60+ never needed her teeth grinded down with any other dentist either. Number 2: When I walked into the office the first time, there was an important supreme court decision being made. When asked my opinion on the outcome, it was obviously not what the receptionist opinion was. Bad way to start out.... I have no desire to return to this dentist. I like my teeth the way they are...and whenever I feel my nubby molar it reminds me why i didn't want to return. I do have to say...the dental hygienists where extremely nice, intelligent, competent, etc...if they worked somewhere else...I would go to that dentist. read more

I was Referred to Dr. Gershfeld by a close friend. I had previously gone to three other dentists before and being on a limited income, I even tried UCLA Dental Clinic because of the botched work that was done previously. I had recently seen a documentary on the slave trade in the 1700-1800's. one of the things that was pointed out was that when trading for a human (sadly) the first rule was to check the mouth and teeth to see what the condition of the "Purchase" (again sadly) was. if the teeth had cavities or any type of infections then it was assumed that the Person had internal organs that were due to fail. meaning that the teeth is the window of the human body. infections in the mouth can cause Infections in the main arteries in the heart., infections not corrected and treated can cause infections in the spinal column and eventually paralysis of the lower extremities. ( I have a friend that just recently went through this and is now permanently bed bound). Taking care of our teeth is extremely important and is not just essential for that perfect smile. it goes deeper than that. I read most of the comments on Dr. Gershfeld and I was pretty amazed at some of the things that were said. I would like to touch on expenses. I went to "cheaper" dentist not knowing then, many many years ago what I know now. For this I am paying the price today. I have had implants, crowns and root canals done by Dr. Gershfeld because of the Mega-Dentist that get you in and get you out or what I call the "assembly line joints" If you go to a Lawyer, Architect, Contract Builder, or any other professional specialized practice you will be billed. These professionals are there to perform a service and to be compensated for it. unfortunately I tried doing it the most cost effective for years and now I get to pay the price. basically, I got what I paid for. There is no denying that the repairs and the extent of the damage was corrected was expensive however the results have been incredible. I have had a great hesitance of Dentists., I am very fearful of sitting in that chair but when I first went to Dr. Gershfelds office I felt at ease. it took 21 months to have a front tooth removed., bone graphs, titanium post put in and a crown permanently attached. I never thought that a prior root canal would have resulted in such severe damage and the extensive repair needed but it was necessary because it was obvious that the tooth need to come out and I avoided it for several years. Because I thought I knew better... Now I will admit that here were a few cancellations but honestly how many people do you know that had to call in sick because of an emergency or just being sick. I don't want anyone one going in my mouth, if they are not feeling well (not to say that was the reason for the cancellation)., But one day recently I had a mint in my mouth and i bit into it and I broke a tooth, I called the office because something felt horrible immediately and I was asked to come in right away. within 15 minutes I was sitting in a chair in the office and I know that some schedules had to be moved around and I was squeezed in., at that moment that is when I realized that some of those cancellations MAY have been because someone just like me had an emergency and that's when the lights started to turn on for me., Yes, we are always put out when we have to change our schedules but now I understand how important it was for me to get this broken tooth taken care of. I had an old Metallic filling that was scheduled to come out and underneath it an infection had already festered. These are the kinds of things that I had to endure because I wanted to save money and go to less "aggressive" dentist offices. Dr. Gershfelds office did the best job i could not believe was possible when I first walked into his doors and I am truly grateful to him and his staff, I would gladly recommend him to anyone who is worried about ease and comfort. This Doctor has excellent "bed side manors" while he performed and I am just one happy camper! Like probably most people, I never liked going to the dentist. That is until I met This dentist 5 years ago when i was referred to him ... His gentle considerate and informative approach significantly lowers my anxiety while in the chair.. I really like that he verbalizes each step and constantly asks how the patient is doing.. His assistants are always very attentive and professional, and front office staff are pleasant and accommodating. If you are reading all these reviews to decide if you want to go to this dentist, then know that he is the most honest dentist I have ever been to, and I've been to quite a few. I hate the dentist like most people. Dr. Gershfeld is gentle and listens to your concerns. I'm from Chicago and have had many bad experiences with dentists out there. I moved to L.A and one day my filling fell out. I went on Yelp looking for a dentist near my home. I saw Dr. Gershfeld reviews and decided to make the call. I called Dr. Gershfeld's office and they were able to see me the very next morning and fixed my filling. Since then I have been back for a cleaning which was great and again because I need a crown on another tooth that had a very large filling. Again he was gentle, I love that they have an insurance program and I don't feel like he is trying to find everything that is wrong to make a buck. I do recommend this dentist! read more

I went to another dentist on a coupon and they tried to charge me $1200 for 2 cavities. I decided to get another opinion and came upon Jeffrey Schechter. They took me in and saw me without any wait and told me it was just two cavities and they didnt charge me nearly as much. I had a great experience and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Went to this dentist a few years ago. While he is charming and nice, I don't think he is very skilled. He literally gave me the most painful root canal of my life and every time he hurt me he'd look surprised like he couldn't believe it. Imagine how I felt? 3-29-11 I went to Dr. Gershfeld for first a cleaning about 2 wks ago and then just yesterday for a filling. The cleaning experience was the BEST I have ever had in my life! The hygienst had the most gentle touch and the cleaning was pain-free!! When I went in yesterday for the filling, I was getting ready for the pain of the shot that I've felt many times before at other dentists office. I had read one of the reviews below that said the shot at Dr. Gershfeld's was painless but I was skeptical since I had never had a painless novocaine shot. I do have to say that this shot was PAINLESS!! After about 10 mins, Dr Gershfeld came in, drilled the old filling out with no problem and put in the new filling. All the while explaining everything that was going to happen. I felt very comfortable and at no time did I experience any pain. He also has tv's in each of the chairs that you can watch while you wait. I am soooo happy I have finally found a dentist like Dr. Gershfeld. And I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist or for someone who has had bad experiences with dentists in the past. I'm just sorry it's taken so long to find him. Dr. Gershfeld is not only a highly skilled Dentist, he is an incredible person. I am very particular about Dentists. I had a fantastic dentist in Philadelphia for years and tried many Dentists after mine retired. When I found Dr. Roger Gershfeld, I found just what I was looking for in a diagnostician and clinician. He was trained in Oral Surgery as well as General Dentistry. He has given me a root canal, fillings, and a crown that has all been painless and perfectly executed with never a need for even a minor adjustment. His novocaine shots are a breeze, too. I went to a high end boutique dental practice in Ventura County with an office similar to a spa. Sadly, the Dentist couldn't compare to Dr. Gershfeld, who I should have gone to when he was first referred to me by a friend. I was too stuck up to go to a Dentist's office in Hollywood at LaBrea and Sunset. Don't be fooled by the location. His office is clean, friendly, and simple, with no glitz and glamour, except for televisions to keep your mind distracted from the sterile environment of a Dentist's chair. Dr. Gershfeld's Dental Hygienist is also highly skilled. She was a Dentist in Russia and is the sweetest person you will ever meet. She thoroughly cleans the plaque from my teeth and makes them squeaky clean. She is so gentle, I fell asleep in her chair once during a cleaning. Instead of turning people away without insurance, Dr. Gershfeld started his own private insurance program. He has been great to my friends who have used his insurance plan. I've been going to Dr. Gershfeld for 2 years after hunting far and wide for a good dentist since moving to LA 5 years ago. I just want to thank Dr. Roger Gershfeld for being very patient with me because I have been scared of dentists for as long as I can remember. He does great work and I recommend him if you want someone who is caring, gentle, and knows what there doing to work in your mouth. I had the worst experience ever yesterday with this dentists staff. I flew into Los Angeles to get my crown placed and the office cancelled on me just over an hour before the scheduled appointment time. I came in to figure out how we can move forward as my flight leaving was in a few hours. The girl I spoke with was incredibly rude. I had changed my previous appointment with twenty days notice and she accused me of playing games with the office. I asked if I could buy the crown and get it done elsewhere (since I wont be in California) and she told me they cant do that. I am so angry. They are holding my crown hostage which I already paid for half the procedure previously when they did the temporary. I will not step foot in this office again. They are rude, time wasters. I was very happy with my visit here for a cleaning. I made my apt 1 day in advance. I asked if I had to have X-rays when making my apt & they said no, not unless they found something. I wanted to avoid extra out of pocket costs, I don't have dental insurance. When I checked in for my afternoon apt I was taking back immediately after finishing my new patient paperwork. No wait. Staff was friendly. The office isn't fancy but looked clean & neat. The hygienic started right away as soon as I was taken back. Everything was sterile & packaged. Everyone wore gloves. Cleaning took about a half hour & she was very gentle (had been 4 yrs since my last cleaning). Doctor came in & did the exam. I felt he looked thoroughly. Nice guy. No problems, no X-rays, didn't try & sell me anything. It was $152 total & I was out in less than an hour. read more

Dr. Gershfeld is incredibly kind and very professional. He's been my dentist for two, almost three years now and I have never once had a complaint about him or his office. Being young w mediocre insurance, I was pretty bummed when I got my list of dentists that accepted my provider and walked out of multiple dentists offices in the area before finding Dr. Gershfeld! So glad I did! They have always been able to see me quickly and the office is very clean. I read in some other reviews that the Dr. smokes but I personally have never noticed this in all of my visits. They have these awesome text and email reminders for appointments which is super helpful. they have ALWAYS done their best to make sure stuff is paid for through my insurance and I have never ever felt like they were being irresponsible w my bill or trying to get me to do unnecessary procedures. Dr. Gershfeld is no longer at this location. I am usually not "that guy" who writes a poor review but this bothered me. I went in mid February for a cleaning. The hygienist is great as is the staff. While I was getting my teeth cleaned I could here the dentist instruct orders to the hygienist for xrays. They did a complete set and he asked for more. Obviously he was seeing them from his office. After the cleaning a dentist I never met introduced himself and then told me all the things wrong with my teeth. He said even though I was not experiencing pain, I needed a new crown and root canal. When he left, I was informed that Dr. Gershfeld had sold the business to this dentist. I paid the bill and they made me an appointment for the work. A few days later I thought to myself why did this dentist just assume he would replace Dr. Gershfeld? I don't know him. The reason I drove over the hill was because of a recommendation for Dr. Gershfeld. And I am okay with him selling the business as I am sure he had reasons, But that doesn't mean someone I don't know can just start rummaging through my teeth without asking. So I cancelled the next visit and moved on. Only to get my insurance statement that indicated the insurance company was charged 412 dollars for my "cleaning" including X Rays and Doctor Evaluation. Evaluation of what? I had no pain. No complaints. I had x rays on my file. Just is not right and had to say so. read more

My family and I have been patients here since 2008. In the last year there's been a change in the office staff that has taken a turn for the worse. The current staff is very aggressive in their quest to collect on overdue bills. To the point of being trigger happy wrt collection agencies. Nothing too awful happened, but I'm just not impressed. On each of my 3 visits he used a different anesthetic. Now, I had told him I have trouble getting numb. The first time everything was great, whatever he used worked well and lasted. The second time, he used an anesthetic with epinephrine in it and I was shaking and nauseous the rest of the visit. The third, he used a weaker anesthetic that wore off toward the end of the procedure and it seemed like he didn't believe me when I told him I could feel pain. My crown was almost completely done by a dental assistant, which might explain why it doesn't fit exactly right. I'm not sure if this is normal, but the shaping to fit it in was almost all done on the bottom tooth - an actual tooth, not the crown. I'm not a dentist but it seems like grinding down healthy tooth isn't how you should do that. He also canceled 2 of my appointments so I wasn't able to finish all the work I needed before the end of the year. I won't be back, and not just because I no longer have dental insurance. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Gershfeld for over 5 years now, and he is fantastic. He is always professional, polite, friendly, and he doesn't waste your time. He takes many different insurance policies. I know, because my work has changed dental coverage multiple times (Guardian, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare) and he's taken every one of them. I seem to see a different hygienist each time I go, but every one of them has been great. It's a seamless transition and it almost feels like I'm seeing the same person. My new dentist! Dr. Gershfeld is great as is his staff! Going to the dentist is difficult for me, so having a dentist who I can feel at ease with is a big deal. He's a really nice guy and I feel totally comfortable and relaxed (well, as much as one can be when you're going to the dentist...). I will definitely tell my friends to go him! The best! I had a groupon and went to a dentist in Tarzana who told me I needed 2 crowns and 6 fillings. He said with the discount it would be $2400. I had one tooth I knew was bad but everything else seemed fine and this just didn't seem right. I went to Dr. Schechter and he told me I only needed one filling for the tooth that was hurting me. He is honest and takes time to explain what needs to be done. I was impressed with his staff as well. I would recommend him to anyone! read more

This is hands down the best dentist I've ever been too. I've been coming here for a few years now and the staff is always so nice , and the doc is a artist ! He did my veneers for me about a year ago and they look so natural and are holding up like it's day one! He's the best, always has a pleasant attitude and makes me laugh.
