Mountain View Roadhouse replaced a well established east side eatery named The Phoenix. What we got was something that felt like a sister restaurant to Worthy Brewing across the street, but with a lot of misses. Despite being in their soft opening at the time, the service was decent, and the servers touched our table frequently given how busy they were and the wait times to get a table were at least 30 minutes. When we sat down to eat, we both ordered the Country Fried Steak. I don't recommend it... The country fried steak itself felt like it was more breading than meat, and the meat had the texture of coarsely ground beef versus the traditional tenderized cube steak (or thinly pounded piece of beef). The homestead gravy felt like a pretty big departure from the more traditional country gravy that's often used for this dish. It was salty and didn't bring a lot to the dish itself. Thick slivers of carrots were the chosen vegetable side that was seasoned well, but a little undercooked. The star of the dish was definitely the mashed potatoes. They were well seasoned and had great creamy texture with some chunks folded in so you knew it was real. TL;DR - I would probably follow the advice of a lot of the people we overheard while waiting for the table, "Let's go to Worthy instead." read more

I have tried almost every dish and have been disappointed with them all. The pizza wasn't cooked all the way through. The chicken was disgusting. And even the sidewinder fries were not cooked properly. The TV is on full volume so loud you can't hear the person across from you. Met some family for breakfast and decided to try MVR. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was delicious. My family both had scrambles and they looked great too, especially the potatoes. Overall, great food, super clean and great service. We will be back for sure. read more

Ok, ok I know.....I'm a BBQ snob or maybe a southern food savant...and I'm kinda proud of it. I don't try to pigeon hole names of restaurants BUT you are expecting something else then what they deliver. The menu has 30-40 meals...from pizza to meatloaf sandwich. Bbq chicken pizza is what I ordered and the better half got a melted Brie with sliced apples. Neither of them were "OMG" good. The service was really good, always checking on your table. The layout is exactly like the old restaurant. Same tables, lights and flooring. Why do restaurants need to make a wide variety of meals and the meals are just "meh"! The food tastes really good and the prices fair. I had the MTV burger and my husband had the pizza with 3 meats - cant recall the name. The waiter was attentive and kind. This place is pretty bad for food and service. Our family ordered: (1) a burger and fries; (2) a pepperoni pizza; and (3) a meatloaf sandwich. The meatloaf sandwich was advertised as thick cut meatloaf. In reality it was a thin hamburger patty cut in half - both halves on a roll. Pretty weak. The pizza's outer crust was burnt but the rest of the crust was undercooked. I took it home and recooked it on a pizza stone. The actual taste of the pizza as just so-so. The hamburger was a frozen Sysco patty and was tasteless. The service was slow and inattentive. Some of our order was incorrect and had to be redone and no one checked on us to ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. This was also not cheap and I feel ripped off for this mediocre meal. We won't be back. read more

Service was fast ! We enjoyed the Wild Berry Salad, CampFire Burger, Maple Bacon Jam Burger and they were great about modifying the Taco Salad for our vegetarian member. Wish they had a good Black Bean Burger Patty Option. Drinks were good - serve Pepsi (bummer). We, four of us, visited last Wednesday afternoon, and found the food to be underwhelming. The waitress was very friendly. Three of us ordered Chicken Fried Steak and all three were disappointed. The batter on the steak was thick and mushy. The brown gravy seemed to be the kind that came from a package and was too salty. The Hasselback Potatoes were undercooked and the seasoning lacked flavor. As for the corn, which is not a Seasonal Vegetable, it was overcooked, dry and chewy. The fourth person in our group had the Salmon, which she took one bite and set aside. The best I could determine was that it was undercooked. Her Salmon was served with the same Hasselback Potatoes and Corn, Even sadder than the food has been the lack of response from the restaurant. I messaged them with all of these concerns a few days ago and have yet to hear from anyone. read more

First time and sorry to say my last time. I ordered the salmon big mistake. Small little dried up piece (the tail end of the fish) with a tiny little bit of the berry sauce on top. It came with the worsed asparagus I have ever had. Tiny extremely thin ,,,, no tops and if there was a top it was rough, stems were very stringy I spit them out. I expressed my dissatisfaction to our waitress and she reduced the price by 50%. In my opinion I should not have been charged at all. I was so disappointed. read more

We also got the cookie skillet for dessert and it was really chocolatey. Food was fantastic. We got clearly fresh made from a chef not just reheated food. It was delicious. Great breakfast place too. I've had four different items and all were great, piping hot and fresh. Best scramble I've had in ages and the potatoes were perfect. I'm not a beer drinker but the selection was large. It dies have tv's sports bar type but they are on mute and the atmosphere/sound are good for conversation/dates etc. Please give this place a try you won't be disappointed and I want to be sure they do well so I can keep coming back. The food was excellent and you could tell the chefs are well trained and the food was sourced locally. Most places get 99% of their food from Sysco and it all tastes the same. But here you could tell by the textures and the flavors that this food was not frozen and reheated. My only two issues are that it was a bit expensive and the entree portions were small but appetizer portions were huge. But in the end I left full and satisfied. It's just another bar, though.The food options are mainly bar type foods, pizza, burgers, and tacos -- there are some salads and a couple of fish dishes, too. They don't have any of the foods you would usually associate with a "Roadhouse" (i.e. steak, fried chicken [not strips], ribs, etc.). A lot of us on the East side have eagerly awaited the opening of this new restaurant. Loads of us sorely miss the Phoenix which was a really great place to go for a decent meal. So far, I'm still just missing the Phoenix. Now there's the Roadhouse. They advertise as being open from 11am to midnight. I took my elderly mother who has been watching the remodel with eager anticipation.. Got there at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. The bar door looked closed, and the restaurant door was locked. They put up some spectacular signs on the outside of their building, but couldn't be bothered with Open and Closed signs. We went to Worthy Brewing instead and had a delicious meal. The truth is, the Roadhouse will survive without our business because the east side doesn't have a ton of options. The ski concession vibe and removal of booths suggest they did not take the old Phoenix clientele into consideration, so we shall take a cue from them by taking our hard-earned dollars elsewhere. read more
