I'm surprised by the high ratings, frankly...we felt like they were trying to stall and goof off, in order to stretch a short route to make a four hour trip. We loved Rafting with Pete! He was Fun, friendly and informative with many things related to our stay in Durango. We were warned before booking, that the river was low so extreme rafting was not likely. We enjoyed it anyways without the extreme rapids. Took my kids on a spontaneous road trip in Colorado, the very short time we spent in Durango was one of the highlights of our trip. Rafting was a blast, and our guide Trevor was great. This was our first trip to Durango, Colorado we wanted to look up some rafting trips and found many vendors, but the Mountain Waters Rafting was the only five star rated on Yelp, so we pick them up. I was impressed from the moment we signed up. Within 10 minutes of signing up on my smartphone, I had a call from one of their staff who was confirming our rafting trip to make sure we had everything we needed. Upon arrival that morning we were greeted by super friendly service and amazing staff. The river was running high due to snow melt, so the rapids were rated higher and they offered us helmets and wetsuits at no charge. We completed a half day trip which was four hours and 13 miles down the river. It was an awesome experience! Our guide Michael Roundy was so awesome! He knew the river well and made it a fun trip for all of us on the raft. I would without reservation recommend Mountain Waters Rafting to anyone who wants to have an amazing day! My boyfriend and I went rafting on 7/18/19 and it was easily one of the major highlights of our trip to Durango! After searching through multiple rafting companies, we decided on Mountain Waters Rafting because of their great reviews, and extremely friendly staff when we called with a few questions. We went on the half day rafting trip, and the whole trip was amazing!! We started at 1:30 and returned at 5:30. At the beginning, we were able to check in quickly and rented water booties (I highly recommend them! They were only $5) and we didn't have to worry about our shoes getting wet at all. On the bus ride over to the river, the staff was friendly, funny, and made us even more excited for the trip! On our raft, our guide was AJ. He was incredible!!! He was so friendly and knowledgeable. I know he does the rafting trip two times a day and I'm sure he's done countless trips altogether, yet you can tell how much he truly loves it. He made it so exciting and he talked to us the entire time, either just to ask questions about our trip or to give us some history about the town and the areas we were rafting through! He also made us feel extremely safe and I didn't doubt him for a second! I'm so happy we were able to ride with AJ! The other guides were equally as friendly and you can tell what a close knit group they all are! Everything was so organized and they truly have it down. Halfway through the trip you pull over and get a snack and water, and the ride back is equally as entertaining as the trip over. I can't say enough good things about this company and if anyone I know visits Durango or we return, I will definitely recommend Mountain Waters Rafting and come again! read more

My son and I had a great trip with Mountain Waters Rafting (MWR) on the Upper Animas. We did the Silverton to Needleton stretch. The Upper Animas is an amazingly beautiful, rugged area with great rapids, especially with the water so high this year. The high water also makes the trip more hazardous. MWR requires a night-before safety orientation and swim test to ensure you're up to the trip. From the moment we met Andy (one of many great guides and staff involved in the trip), I was impressed by the professionalism and focus on safety. This company really knows their stuff. There were a total of 8 paying customers on our trip (divided into groups of 4 per raft). There were about 10 MWR staff on the trip - a guide per customer raft, a raft with other guides in training, a raft with a guide who scouted ahead. The entire focus of this team was to ensure we had a fun, safe trip. And we did. We rafted a string of class III/IV/V rapids without incident. Andy was our raft guide. He was having as much fun as we were while making sure we had our act together through the rapids. I wish I could name all the personnel involved in the trip because they were all great. They all had the same combination of professionalism with a real love and appreciation of the outdoors. Sometimes you get guides that can be kind of condescending like "I'm an outdoor stud and you're a city dweller." None of that with MWR. We had a great lunch at Needleton and had the chance to visit MWR's base camp while we waited for the train to take us down. MWR offers a 2 night trip where you overnight at Needleton before continuing down on day 2. My son says he definitely wants to come back next year and do the 2 night trip. I totally agree. My thanks to MWR for giving my son and I a day that we'll always remember. We'll definitely be back! read more

We booked a half day, lower Animas River rafting trip. It was the highlight of our time in Durango. We had two families in our group with three kids ranging in ages from 6 to 9. The kids absolutely loved their day on the river and were so sad when our time was done. The rapids ranged from Class 1 to Class 3. Very family friendly. The guides were all wonderful. The guide for our raft, Andy G. was really great with our group and the kids (even letting them paddle when they wanted to paddle but didn't need to paddle). Unfortunately, late July is not the best time to white water raft, but the wonderful people at MWR made my grandson's first float memorable. Our guide was Mick and Sydne was the ring leader. We did the River Classic Trip. This trip is probably best for families with small children, as the only real 'thrill' is the Santa Rita rapid. Otherwise, we experienced long periods of no real rapids, which was very boring. The main reason for the rating was the extreme long periods of down time where we weren't paddling and seemed to always be waiting for other rafts/kayaks in the group. Running into another large group from another company was also annoying; you would think that the companies would work this out so it didn't happen. Even before we dropped in the water, it took a while to get the rafts ready, which they used cheesy games to kill the time (again more appropriate for kids). While our guide was nice, we could barely hear her several times sitting towards the front. She made a point to ask for everyone's names at the beginning, but then she never used anyone's name from that point on. I felt like she could have been more engaging with the group. We had never rafted before, but definitely next time I would want something way more challenging than this very tame tour. read more

We just had a great time with rafting the lower Animas River today! We loved our guide Arissa! She was knowledgeable and friendly and fantastic! The check in process was smooth and fast and everything felt very safe and distanced from the others in our time slot! The 3 hour trip was the perfect amount of time. Even though the water was a little low, the rapids were still fun and all ages in our group had a great time (we had three kids aged 7, 9, 10 and grandparents in their 70s).
