This national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan ancestral sites in the United States (nps) - it celebrates people. The snowy peaks in the background is San Juan Mountain. We visit multiple Mesa Top Sites, (900-1100, nps). MTS means top archeological sites within this park. We first stop at the Far View Terrace Cafe for bathroom break and also pick up our lady guide; then driving up north, stopping at the PitHouse, ending the tour at the information & research center in early afternoon about 2pm, that includes an hour lunch at Far View Terrace Cafe, with a wonderful view. Two other cafes are the Spruce Tree Terrace Cafe, and the Knife Edge Cafe. The Cliff Palace is impressive. But the tour didn't take us there - only viewed it from afar. I actually bought a mug that changes with heat and a pretty conch bangle from the gift shop. The information center is cool; the museum is ok.

My wife had heard that Mild to Wild rafting took great care of their clients. Last year at this time, we were wading up the San Miguel river / stream and fly fishing. Shallow water, tranquil pools and great fishing made it a different weekend. When we booked this, I thought it must be a mistake as this stream did not seem strong enough for rafting and narrow in width. What a difference a year makes. The river was full, fierce with heavy water and good class 3 rapids for the next 1 1/2 hour. Big rocks, fast water, big snags and quick currents were the norm today. One had better stay in the boat, as it would troublesome swimming in 42 degree water. Alyssia, our guide was fabulous and serious about following her instructions. She navigated the rocks, snags and fast water. She maneuvered our boat well. For the next 1 1/2 hours, we had 3-4 foot swells and worked the entire trip. We have rafted many rivers and this was one of our shorter trips but a 5/5 on adventure. For a great adventure, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day, raft with Mild to Wild. You will have a fun filled and adventurous memory for life.

We spent a week together exploring Durango and the attractions here. One of our favorite experiences was white water rafting with Mountain Waters. The staff was super communicative and helpful. We booked a moderate run with class 1-3 rapids, since we had a big range of ages (my Dad is 77 and we had a party of 10 with ages ranging down to my 10-y-o son). They advised that this would be best for our family, and they were correct. I'd love to come back and do some class 3-4 rapids now that we have had some experience. Our guide Hannah was knowledgeable and very kind. We had a great experience with the team. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

He was able to put us down for a 2-hour ride and informed us that they haven't received their credit card reader yet, so I made sure to have cash. One thing I forgot, and deeply regret, is to have enough for a tip as well. We arrived at their wonderful property shortly before 4:00. Lynn was there to greet us and had our horses ready to go after the waivers were signed. She got us all on a horse and adjusted the stirrups efficiently. She is a no-nonsense lady and I admire that. She gave us a bit of instruction and then off we went! We rode along the road for a little bit before turning onto some land by a picturesque lake. Lynn's sweet dog tagged along and provided a laugh when she ran and jumped into the lake. Shortly after, we made it onto Nation Forest property. With the exception of the road to and from the main property, Lynn took us on a varied path. We rode on dirt road in the forest, then cut through trees, up hills, across a culvert, up some pipeline area, and into meadows and back to the lake. The views were wonderful and the peace of the whole ride spectacular. There was one area of trees that felt particularly peaceful and Lynn turned back to tell me how she loved riding through them just as I was feeling the same. It was my favorite part, as if there was a special energy in that spot. Overall, we had a wonderful ride. Getting off the horse after 2 hours was the hard part; I definitely felt like I was walking like a cowboy. :-) It was a highlight of our trip. Someday, we would like to come back and do a breakfast or dinner ride.

Please do not rent floating inner tubes with this company. They are completely negligent and will…read moreput you in harm's way. We rented inner tubes with them to float on the river next to Telluride. The employee told us that it would take about 1 hour to float 3 miles, so we parked our car at the end of those 3 miles so we could easily finish our float at our car and head home. After 2 hours, we had only floated 1 mile. So, it would've taken us 6 hours to get back to our car instead of the expected 1 hour, at which it would've been after dark and much colder. Thankfully we brought a cell phone (even though we were instructed not to) and thankfully we had friends in the area we could call to pick us up. But the completely incorrect information we received from this company still put us in harm's way and could've caused us to be in a legitimately dangerous situation if we were any less lucky. I reached out to the company multiple times about their errors, and they never responded. Please do not ever rent with this company or trust any information they give you.
