The check in process was smooth and fast and everything felt very safe and distanced from the others in our time slot! The 3 hour trip was the perfect amount of time. Even though the water was a little low, the rapids were still fun and all ages in our group had a great time (we had three kids aged 7, 9, 10 and grandparents in their 70s). Our family of 4 had a great time doing the 8:30am family rafting tours. Perfect for younger kids who have never been white water rafting before! We were a little bummed that we had to share a raft with another family, but our guide, Spencer, made up for it! He was by far the beat guide out there. Knowledgeable about the town and had a lot of interesting facts to tell us. He was great with the kids as well! He was fun and we didn't get stuck as many times as the others did! Family of four did the Half Day Animas River trip. Paid extra to have the boat to just the four of us and was well worth it. They did a good job social distancing on the shuttle busses and around the shop. Lucas was a great guide who taught us about the local wildlife including the Animas River Beaver Shark and we even got a couple free geology lessons! What a great experience with Tracy and Beau as the tour guides for the large groups they guided at Mesa Verde. I learned so much, laughed a bunch and ate well. I'm grateful to my friend for recommending them rather than going myself. Riding in a comfortable van while taking in the sites was more comfortable and allowed for greater learning than doing it on my own. I had such a good time and appreciation for their professionalism that I decided to go on the river rafting trip they offer on the Needleton stretch of the Upper Animas river. It was a blast! My kids, partner and I had a wonderful time on the Upper Animas, Niddleton trip with A-Aron and Andy. They made the white water rafting trip even better. The whole trip went without an issue. Up early and met the guys to walk over to the train. All was well, just sat back and enjoyed the ride to our drop off. Took a little time to get on the river, but understandable as they had to unload the equipment and get it all on the water. We met up with a couple other groups and then hit the water. Andy and Aaron were very friendly and knowledgeable and led us down river for a great trip. The scenery was beautiful, the water was great and the rapids were a blast. We had a great time in Durango on the river! Thanks to our guide Aidan! He was fantastic! The staff at the check in was equally amazing and patient! One of the girls even let me borrow her sunglass leash for my prescription sunglasses! Much appreciated. They recommended wet suits and so we did that and we're thankful because the water was cold! We had booked the half day trip but because of the water level changed to the quarter and we appreciated that the company out our safety first! This was such a fun experience!! The water is unusually high this year, ( around 6,200 CFS) which made it a lot more fun (the current was faster and there weren't as many rocks we had to avoid.) We had an outstanding time rafting with this company! Our guide (AJ) was super friendly, knowledgeable, fun and he taught us all about local wildlife, trees and plants along the river. It was our first time rafting with kids (6 yr old twins and a 10 yr old) and the river was high & fast, but the company did such a good job of preparing us, keeping us safe and even outfitted us with wet suits, splash jackets and special shoes to keep us warm and dry (no extra charge). The kids got out during the class 3 rapids and watched us from the park with the photographer, then hopped back in excited to do it themselves in a few more years. We loved all of the action shots we could purchase at the end and the snack of fruit and chips/salsa mid way through was a great touch. The bus driver (maybe his name was Jacob, maybe I'm totally wrong) was also very kind and friendly. The money was totally worth the 3 hours of smiles, squeals and giggles from our kids and it was their favorite activity in Colorado. I was hesitant at first letting my just turned five-year old go on a rafting excursion. We paid with the intention of pulling out of it if we thought it was unsafe. I quickly felt very comfortable in their hands. All the guides were friendly, seemed very well trained and experienced, and we were very impressed with the professionalism of the overall operation. Our guide was Jeremiah. He went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and to ensure we had a great time. He was just a great guy overall. Really happy we were paired up with him. For anyone hesitating about bringing their child on the trip, don't be. There wasn't one time out on the water that I thought my son was in danger. We all had a great time. Most of the river is just relaxing and scenic. A few spots are a little more wild, but just enough to increase fun not anxiety. Highly recommend. Did the Upper Animas Needleton Class III-IV section 18 July 2017 with flow at just under 1000 cfs. Pretty shallow and rocky but still lots of fun. Great trip with age range from teens to senior citizens. They screen all clients for to ensure that you will be able to safely participate... and the Upper Animas did require lots of participation! Anna was a fantastic guide and gave us the instruction we needed to stay safe and have a great time on the rapids. I'd love to come back for a multi-day trip to include Silverton and Rockwood, and we may check out their sister company on the Salt River in Arizona in the spring. read more

Our family of 11--ages 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14, 15, 17, 19, and mom & dad in their mid-forties--had a terrific time on the half-day rafting trip. Our guides were knowledgeable, entertaining, and well prepared. We were a little concerned that the white water rafting might be too wild for our youngest children, but it wasn't at all. The PFDs ('personal floatation devices', fancy for 'life preservers') fit all of us well, even our smallest children. Robert was a huge help, double-checking to make sure everyone's vest fit properly. The guides split our family into two groups since the rafts only hold nine passengers and one guide comfortably. Our youngest two were frightened before boarding the raft, but within a couple minutes of being on the water, fear gave way to fun! Our littlest ones sat between older ones who rowed on the outsides of the raft. Pete & Walker did a fantastic job leading our family, making sure the young ones felt secure, while guiding our raft into safe, fun waters where we were all sure to get splashed. Most of our kids (our 9yo and older) "rode the bull": sitting on the front of the raft, holding the tie-rope with one hand, dangling their legs over the front nose of the raft. They had a blast! We stopped half way down the river for chips, apples & water, then took a nice "chilly dip" in a big eddy before our trip came to a close. The bus ride back & forth was comfortable. The guides kept us entertained with jokes, and information about the area. The water level was relatively high; I'm guessing that's why the trip didn't take as long as expected. Wish there was a way to give 4.5 stars. The grew was fantastic. The rafting was a ton of fun. The only downside (at least for us) was the cost: $722.25. But keep in mind, it was 4 hours of a lot of fun for 11 people. That works out to about $16/hour per person. It was the "big item" on our vacation; definitely worth saving up for. read more

He met with us the day before to make sure we felt comfortable with everything we were about to go on. What a fantastic adventure and crew. My fiancé and I did the lower box canyon trip on the Piedra River as part of an engagement surprise and had a blast. The scenery and rapids were great. The raft guides, in particular our raft guide Andy was extremely professional and laid back at the same time. We were impressed by their level of concern for safety. Can't say enough wonderful things about our guide, Doug! He was absolutely amazing! We did the top and bottom of the Piedra River and had a blast. From the bus ride, to the great wraps that were provided for lunch, to the crazy fun rapids, the trip was everything and more than what we expected. We took the four hour family rafting trip with MWR in June 2016. This is a pretty tame white water rafting trip with the rapids ranging from Class I-III and kids as young as three can go on the trip. The water levels are high on the Lower Animas this year (2016), which elevates the danger a bit. The MWR guides gave us the standard safety briefing before the trip, but then reminded us repeatedly during the trip. During our trip, we hit a series of Class III rapids and all of the MWR rafts pulled over to let anyone under 13 years old out. MWR had a photographer there who helped the kids out of the rafts, took pictures of the rest of us rafting the portion of the river, and showed the kids where to walk to meet up with the rafts after the rapids were over. Our guide explained that's why they feel comfortable letting younger children raft because they have a process worked out to let them walk around any dangerous parts. Our guide, Dillon, was very safety conscious and reminded us repeatedly of the safety measures we must follow to have a safe, but fun trip. For a more challenging ride, MWR has higher age requirements plus all rafters must attend a special safety briefing the day before their trip. read more
