She is a two-time breast cancer survivor, and this time, 5 years ago, had gone through a double mastectomy, and then some major reconstruction surgery after that, earlier in the year. I wanted to give her some quality time at the best spa in the region. Our daughter, who recently moved to the area from Virginia, made plans to go with her since she practically lived in spas back in VA and wanted to check out this local Spa. My daughter owns her own business and was in a busy time of year so it took them months to settle on a day when they could both enjoy the day together. The day before they were to go, my daughter was called away on an urgent trip out of the country. The Allison Spa has a 48-hour cancellation policy but we explained this was truly an emergency on my daughter's part. We even offered to show them her plane ticket for her trip. I can understand the business reason for a cancellation policy, employees are brought in to serve clients, space is made available for scheduled guests, it is important in order to make a business run smoothly. It is also a business decision to allow or deny someone not wanting to have to pay the penalty for cancelling an appointment the day before the appointment. That decision that day cost them probable monthly visits from my daughter, and being crossed off my list of places I would recommend people to go to enjoy quality spa services. My wife loved the massage she received and said Sydny was amazing; however, my wife is 5' tall, she had a very hard time in the hydro bath, slipping down in the tub to where she had to hold on to the side for almost the whole treatment to keep from going under. When the assistant came, her comment was: "I'll tell the management". There is a waiting area at the spa check-in counter for people waiting for the clients to come out from the Spa itself. I waited there for about a half hour knowing they would come get me when she came out. She had been out for almost that half hour and hadn't been told I was waiting, I was pretty much ignored. I know, I sound like a complainer, but this was supposed to be a special day, and it wasn't close to what I hoped it would be for her. The cancellation fee cut into her gift card package and she did not get the full benefit of it. I'm trying to be fair to the Allison, and actually my lunch there was excellent and the service and attitude of employees, with the exception of the Spa counter staff, throughout was excellent. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. However, I am extremely disappointed and still very upset with the treatment my wife, my daughter and I received from the Spa. I hope it was an anomaly for The Allison's sake.

Our king room was spacious, comfortable, and dog-friendly. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches for our pup, including food and water bowls in the room and a welcome treat upon arrival. One of the perks of staying overnight is access to the outdoor soaking pool, which is always a highlight. The property has plenty to enjoy, including several bars, a main restaurant, a spa, and even a movie theater. There's enough to keep you entertained without ever needing to leave the grounds. We're big fans of McMenamins in general and, as Tripsters, we're always happy to visit their unique properties. Grand Lodge continues to be one of our favorites. The staff is consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. At times they seem a bit understaffed and can get busy, but the employees always do their best to provide great service and make guests feel taken care of. Overall, it's a fun and relaxing place to stay, and we look forward to coming back again next year.

I did enjoy the breakfast here at the lobby! That was actually pretty delicious and I would say to try it out. The beds and comfortable and you can also bring your dog into this hotel which is kind of cool! That was a bonus seeing all the different-sized dogs roaming around.

It is just a lovely place with a sitting room with a huge fireplace, a quaint breakfast room, and several patio areas with fire pits overlooking the valley. One firepit stays on all the time (already I was excited to "need" a firepit in August!). Ryan then walked us across the entryway to a separate smaller building and into our room which was the Deluxe Valley View room...with glass doors that opened directly onto a sweet little patio with adirondack chairs and table overlooking the vineyard. We spent every morning here drinking tea before breakfast and most evenings here drinking wine before bed. And speaking of breakfast! Every morning was a treat...several options you can choose from, mix and match your pastry with your fresh fruit with your main dish with your beverage with your coffee, all a great way to bellywad before a day of wine tastings! They…read morecalled at 6:00pm on the night of our check in to tell me that they closed at 8 pm- which was not mentioned anywhere. I asked what time checkout was and they said 11am but failed to tell me that there was a late fee starting at 11:15 AM and they charged per 15 minutes after 11:15. They left a lock box for us and although the weather was very rainy and stormy, and there is no elevator to get up to the rooms, we got in with no issues. But, when we opened our balcony door we saw a shipwrecked boat on the beach in front of our room and the people staying above us were up every hour on the hour and then at 5 am started dragging suitcases across the floor- and you can hear everything through the ceiling. And construction crews got there at 6:30 am to remove the mast from the ship. We got maybe two hours of sleep. They office told me the people above us had a family emergency but regardless, a late fee was charged as we were still moving our suitcases from the room on the second floor, down the stairs at 11:30 until 11:40 when I went to the office after someone came to tell my husband at the car we were going to be charged a fee. I asked if they could make an exception to the rule due to the circumstances but they refused and were immediately on the defense the minute I walked in the office door. I tried to get Expedia to refund us and the hotel refused. I travel for work often and I've never been charged a late checkout fee, especially since we didn't get any sleep, let alone one per 15 minutes and the majority of that was my husband trying to get all of our stuff downstairs because there's no elevator. Do not recommend. Do not stay here.

"Nice and friendly" is beyond an understatement when describing this gentleman. The General Store has so many snacks, I probably spent $60 on all the stuff I ate. I couldn't help myself. You won't be left hungry here. They do close early at 6 on though so use your time wisely! We stayed in Condo 2 and it was absolutely lovely. They even have pots, pans, silverware, dishes and mugs in the kitchen for you to use. Oh! We were so happy to see a griddle! The bathtub is also a jacuzzi! And they had little toiletries for you. Oh, and makeup remover wipes even! Talk about next level thinking! Everything hardware you need for a basic stay is there. It really felt like home. Upon checking in, we received two cans of beer, free of charge - not sure if that was because it was Thanksgivings weekend, or if it is some they they normally do - but that was a nice surprise to have. The rooms included dishes and utensils which was a bonus as well as a dustpan and broom for sweeping all the sand that comes in. The bed was comfortable and fit all four of us comfortably (we had a king-size bed). The bathtub was a bit odd just because there was a sliding window which when opened connected to the bedroom. Our kids had a hoot being in the bathtub while getting to watch tv at the same time - although there was also a tv in the bathroom. Location was absolutely perfect! A five minute walk to the beach! In addition, there were many restaurants to choose from in the area. We found it so convenient during dinner hours because when our toddlers were on the verge of meltdowns, we would get the check and walk to our rooms easily.

Old painted wall paper peeling off the walls, mold in shower ceiling, sticky bathroom floors (I wore shoes the whole time). Sticky feeling carpet. It's our last night here and I can't wait to leave. Surprisingly the bed seems very clean and not the most uncomfortable. I will never let anyone else ever book the hotel I'm staying in. I'm tired and don't know what else to say. Ugggh.

We loved the beautiful grounds, and the chalet was comfortable and exactly what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, around 1:00 a.m. on the second to last night of our stay, we returned from the wedding festivities to find that the entire chalet smelled overwhelmingly of sewage. The odor was present throughout all three floors and became stronger with each level. It was so intense that several of us were gagging and even became physically sick. We attempted to book a room at the nearest hotel but they were fully booked, leaving us with no choice but to stay. We opened every window in the chalet and had to leave them open for the remainder of our stay because the smell was otherwise unbearable. We made every effort to report the issue while it was happening. That night, we called the resort's emergency after hours hotline but never received a return call or any follow up. Upon checking out on the final day, I reported the situation again to the staff member at the front desk. He was incredibly kind, apologetic, and assured me the situation was unacceptable. He explained that the manager, Dan, would contact me and that a partial refund would likely be appropriate given the circumstances. After several days passed without any communication, I reached out to the resort myself. I was told that maintenance had inspected the chalet, along with neighboring units, and could not detect any unusual odor. While I appreciate that they took the concern seriously enough to inspect the property, this was very surprising given that all four of us experienced the smell, and it was severe enough that we were becoming physically ill. I was again told that Dan would contact me, but as of writing this review, I still have not received any phone call or email. It's disappointing because, aside from this issue, our stay would have easily earned five stars. I understand that unexpected maintenance problems can happen and I don't fault the resort for an issue that may have been outside their immediate control. What disappointed me most was the lack of follow through after we were assured someone would reach out. Good customer service isn't just responding in the moment--it's also following through on the commitments made afterward. I genuinely hope the source of the odor has been identified and resolved, as it's a beautiful property and I'd love to recommend it. However, I also hope future guests experiencing an issue like this receive the communication and resolution that we unfortunately never did.
