Husband and I came for a one night beach getaway kid and dog free. Can't recommend this place enough. Check in was easy and we got into our room a little earlier than check in time. The check in cookies were yummy and we appreciated the local beer and seltzer as our check in drinks. We splurged and went with the king bedroom with the water view. The rooms were clean and extremely spacious. The view and the sounds of the waves were dreamy. We didn't get a chance to use the pool/hot tub. The resort is close to pretty much everything, we walked to nearly everything we wanted to see in can in beach. We ate at pelican brewing which was great and walkable. Can't wait to come back!!

This place is an absolute dream! Greeted by the most friendly staff and some cookies! Our room was upgraded to a lovely beach front view and this room is incredible. My husband and I utilized the pool and it was one of the cleanest swimming pools/hot tub I have personally ever seen. Rooms are spotless and spacious. Will definitely be coming back here, highly recommend!

I don't know, this might just be the nicest motel I've ever stayed at! Our room was clean and new looking. We got one of the non-view rooms, to save $$. Our bill was $358 for one night, 2 adults. Wait til you see my photos, we got the most amazing non-view of the Haystack, right in our face! The beach is about 2 minutes from our room. Our room had a refrigerator, fireplace, nice TV options and big TV. Check my photos of the room... It's small, but looks very nice. The deck out our front door puts you right there watching the waves. Room Service is available... Cookies in the lobby at 3:30pm, a major event. Many nice touches, this place is a... Hit.

First, DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY ON BOOKING.COM OR ANY OTHER THIRD PARTY. Book through the hotel. The manager was very understanding since we had booked through a third party and we had no idea we didn't have a room with a view at all. We ended up with a fantastic room with a view of Haystack Rock. The room was beautiful! Very clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom was amazing. I think the only "difficulty" was getting the heat to stabilize from being too hot to too cold. There wasn't instructions on using the thermostat and it wasn't your usual one. Otherwise every thing was great. There were more than enough K-cups for the coffee pot, fresh cookies at the front desk and free beverages upon arrival.

Quiet, seaside, pet friendly, staff accommodating, easy parking, loved the views of Haystack from our bedroom window. Would stay again. Great for pets and plenty of walk about areas. Have chargers for EVs too

Proximity to Haystack was great, comfy beds, indoor pool and hot tub were nice! Bathroom beautiful and roomy. Reservation said "fireplace", the website says "digital fireplace"- where I'm from this is really called a "fake fireplace". Hard floors. Unsure if I would stay here again. Staff friendly and helpful!

We stayed for our annual Mother's Day weekend celebration from Sun-Wed and decided to try Surfsand due to its vicinity between town and Haystack. Upon check in they tell us where we can park in coordination with which building our room is in, but they seem to be unaware of the lack of parking. We had to park by the Wayfarer Restaurant the majority of the time we were there, which was about a two minute walk. They had nowhere to pull up to unload our luggage and we had to use a luggage roller that looked like it had never been cleaned. Our room had a broken toilet dispenser,so the toilet paper fell off every time we used it which was frustrating experience throughout our stay. We had a total of 4 in our party so 2 took the room and 2 took the sleeper sofa. They unfortunately forgot to stock our room with an additional comforter for the sleeper sofa. The fridge was missing a freezer compartment and there was only one faulty sink in the bathroom. Why they found it necessary to have 3 tvs, but only one sink in a bathroom attached to the toilet is beyond me. Also, the size of the tv to bedroom/main room ratio was unnecessary. At check out they did apologize or the missed comforter and broken toilet paper holder, but they didn't leave me feeling the urge to rebook for next year. They did have complimentary chairs for beach use and you could purchase a package where they build the fire for you and provide the items to cook s'mores. The ladies I stayed with were savvy, so we made due with making our own fires. The pool and hot tub was a nice feature, but we didn't use it enough to warrant having it.

It makes me so sad to write this review. My family and I have stayed at this hotel multiple times a year for 7 or 8 years now and never had a complaint until the hotel recently was acquired by a larger chain. Pros: 1. Location. Right on the beach with fantastic views of Haystack rock. Within walking distance to several restaurants and coffee shops, a convenience store, and bike rentals. Within walking distance to downtown as well. 2. Dog friendly rooms available. 3. As advertised, they do have warm cookies at 3 if you're around to enjoy those, they offer complimentary bottles of local beer or root beer when you check in, and during the summer they have a free "community" bonfires in the evening with make-your-own s'mores. 4. My favorite new feature is the motion-sensored nightlight that comes on if you get up in the middle of the night to get a drink or use the restroom. It's the perfect amount of soft light. Con's: 1. Everything just feels different since they were bought out - and this has nothing to do with the renovation underway. 2. We visited twice in March and no longer received the little welcome treat with taffy and a hand-written note either time. 3. The guest rooms have been updated and look newer, but they aren't necessarily better. In fact, the 2 rooms we stayed in both felt significantly smaller. The king studio had the tiniest of tables, just large enough to hold a lamp - so the one evening we ordered room service, we had to eat our dinner on the bed. There's also a window by the door with no blinds that you can see out of from the toilet. The second time we stayed in a king suite. It had a table but the bedrooms no longer have a little window to enjoy fresh air, let any light in, or listen to the waves. Instead, the entire wall behind the bed is planks of wood. It just looks peculiar. There's also so much wasted space in the rooms; it just doesn't make sense. 4. Despite being in newly renovated rooms, both were really dusty, from the towel racks to the floor. 5. The glass showers are nice but the floors looked messy and partially incomplete despite them telling us it was finished. 6. They still advertise Aveda spa products in the rooms but they had this Lather brand the last 2 times we were there. On their own, none of these things are deal breakers, and maybe not even things you'd notice if you haven't stayed there before. However, it's definitely not the same Surfsand and it's disappointing. We agreed we will be looking for different accommodations on future trips. Not necessarily bad, just no longer special.

Located right on the beach and only half a mile walk from Haystack Rock! Really enjoyed our spring break here, despite torrential rain and wind we got for part of our visit. Easy access to the beach, and close enough to walk to all the shops and restaurants in Cannon Beach. Room was spacious with a fireplace and deck, and bathroom had a huge tub for a warm soak. Also appreciated the Aveda bath products, that was a step up from normal hotel shampoo. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. My only gripe is our room was right by the elevator so we could hear the pinging at night. And your neighbor's door is so close you will definitely hear every single time they go in and out.

This is the living space with a fold out couch. You can see the wet bar to the right.

New renovations-sneak peek I was able to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. It was an ocean view, king with a separate living space. The views of haystack rock were gorgeous. They have ripped out any carpets and used tiles. The artwork is spectacular. There are three TVs. One is in the living space over a faux fireplace. There is one in the bathroom. There is another TV on the wall of the bedroom. The bathroom had two sinks, a soaking tub and a showerhead with a separate rain wand. The new tiles in the bathroom represent stone. There is a refrigerator, a bar sink, a Keurig, coffee maker, and a microwave. The pantry is stocked with plates, coffee, mugs, and wine glasses for four. The cabinets are now whisper closing. They have cleverly designed the base of the bed as storage. There are plenty of outlets. They have USB ports embedded into the nightstands. There was a table with two chairs and a couch that would sit three people. There were four Adirondack deck chairs. There was plenty of light. The heating system was updated. It is now on the ceiling as opposed to the side of the wall. I've always been impressed by the front desk staff. There was a bit of a kerfuffle with the people in front of me for check-in. They were unaware that the property is under construction. The website is extremely transparent about the construction and it's impact on its guests. Check-in has moved from its beautiful lobby to a small hotel room. It was a minor inconvenience, balanced by the 20% off they have on their website. Make sure to take advantage of the 3 o'clock warm cookies, the Friday, beer, tastings, and the ice cream social. I highly recommend this resort. If it is too cold to swim in the ocean, they have a heated pool and a very large hot tub.

This is how I prevent hot air from the fan, from getting in my face!

Check in experience with Elizabeth was super smooth Scott was there his back up. I was shown a map including a list of places to eat and told about the wonderful DVD selection they have and how to find the menu for it online. I was also offered cookies that were not just for checking in but anytime during this day. I decided I probably want to try each of them just, you know, for research purposes. Happy to find a bag of saltwater taffy in the room and a comfortable table to work or dine at in a sunny nook of the room. The bathroom area is spacious, though the tub was out of commission which also was reflected in the room rate. There was a shower which makes things speedier and some nice bath amenities especially the bath salts. Fireplace in the room with a TV screen that doesn't dominate. Conveniently there was a small kitchenette area with a microwave and Keurig as well as mini fridge. All the things that matter when you're on a quick trip. The grounds are beautifully kept. Maybe because it was a sunny day or maybe just because everything about the area seemed quite well cared for including the rocking bench and the bird feeders where is the nearest feather friends actually feed. The attention to natural details is lovely. One more thing. I thought I had dropped my cars keys accidentally in rhe parking area and Chelsea was very helpful searching for them. However, personally, I have not felt welcome here,…read moreand I also observe that many of the stated amenities or "perks" are not available, not working, or just not.....it's been death by a thousand cuts for me, and it's on top of the multiple racial micro aggressions I've experienced in this town in less than 24 hours. 1. Upon arrival to check-in, I observed one person at the reception desk being helped by the sole staff member, plus several folks hanging out in the lobby. After checking that no one else was waiting, I sat down to wait. They all left and I was the only person waiting. Of course, a white woman strolled right up to the desk from outside just as the other guest left, and instead of telling her I was there first, or even acknowledging me at all, the white staff person just helped her. 2. They say that pets names are on a welcome board when you arrive. My dog's name was not there and the board was tucked away against a wall. 3. I'm traveling alone with a dog, so I unload everything before bringing my dog into the room. After lugging everything to the door, my key cards did not work. When I went back to reception, there was no apology, or anything about accountability. Simply "oh let me fix that." 4. The room says that the TV is equipped with AppleTV, and even has a special button for it. Does not actually work. 5. They say they provided cookies in the lobby between 4-6pm. I checked in just after 4pm and there were none. 6. I took my dog out to sightsee and when we same back, again with my hands full, the key cards did not work again. So, I have to leave my belongings at the door, and run to the lobby with my dog in tow, to get the fixed AGAIN. funny how that happened again. 7. When we did open the door to the room the first few times, the smell of "old lady perfume" was so strong. I asked the front desk if that was intentional and she said it must be a cleaning product. It is way too strong and I can still smell it on day 2, even after airing the room out as much as possible. 8. The shower head is covered with lime, and the spray options do not all fully function due to how clogged the shower head is. 9. The bedding is way too light for the climate. So then you run the heater, and get too hot in the night. 10. The outdated fridge runs loudly at random times in the night. I'm on a long road trip with my dog as we move to Canada, and we've been on the road for 2 weeks and been to 5 states. I decided to splash out on this hotel because I'm a huge Goonies fan, and my dog loves the beach. Overall, I'm disappointed and I'd say this hotel is not worth it at all. I will not stay here again. For this amount of $$$, plus dog fees for me, this value is abysmal.

As my…read moreprevious review states, the view is incredible and it's always a fantastic stay every time. I wanted to add some details: You get 1 parking spot per room for the duration of your stay which is amazing and quite literally feet away from the famous haystack entrance. Bigger cars might prefer more ideal spots along the sides of the parking lot to reduce congestion of the entrance but those are limited. So plan the times you leave accordingly. Their booking system is different from anywhere else we've stayed. For the dates you stay, at check out, you get dibs on the same dates the following year. Which is why many guests have maintained the same reservation for many years. (That is also why it is always booked out) We see some of the same people every year which is also cool! It will require a $100 deposit which will be deducted from your total if choose not to book the following year. Otherwise that same deposit rolls over year after year. I found the full size refrigerator amazing for new moms who breastfeed and need to freeze their milk. I was able to continue my breastfeeding journey on vacation which I'm grateful for. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need; silverware, dishes, new sponge, dish soap, salt & pep, roasting pan, frying pan, pots, cast iron skillet, microwave, oven, coffee etc. So for families with small children, this also means snacks & mealtimes can be cooked inside your room. (We stop at Costco in Warrenton on the drive over!) If you want the biggest room, choose room #5. It is up a flight of stairs so keep that in mind. It's so spacious. There's a back room with 2 queen size beds, tv & vanity. That's where our kids sleep and plenty of room to play. Bonus, there a door separating the main part of the room where there is another queen bed, kitchen, fireplace and of course, the killer view. They are very strict (as they should be) about fire department requirements regarding how many people can be in each room. There are zero exceptions to maximum capacity. So book accordingly, not based on how many beds there are. Children are included in that count. There is no traditional turn down service but clean towels are provided every morning if you wish. Guests are asked (or have been in the past via the handbook) to remove their own trash which is right under the stairs requiring little to no effort. Also to remove shoes at the door to prevent sand buildup on the carpets as it's difficult to remove. Out of respect for Rosa (who we love) and her staff, we make sure the room is clean of any dishes, garbage before we check out as well as stripping the sheets and leaving on the bed for easier turn down for the next guest. Dogs are allowed on the property granted you pickup after them & remain respectful. No leaving dog unattended. The lower rooms have direct access to the backyard for easy potty breaks. The weather here is kinda funny in the earlier months of the year because it will forecast rain the whole week and be sunny/beautiful for at least half the day. That said, it is windy sometimes with king tides so walks on the beach are dependent on that. Hope this helps! Check that website for opening dates and may the odds be in your favor!!

I misread the check in instructions and confused myself, so I stopped by the office to confirm I was in the right place for check in. The lady working the front desk went above and beyond. Not only was she able to quickly confirm my reservation info, but I was talking about our party and she offered to move us into side by side rooms. She also helped us check in a few hours early! We checked into 101 & 102. The rooms in this building are paired where two adjacent rooms share a private staircase, so we were directly across the hall from the rest of our party--perfect setup for us! The ground floor appears to be used for storage and the room entrances are at the top of the short staircase. It was wonderful to not have any downstairs or upstairs neighbors! We had 2 adults in 101 with a king bed. In 102 we had a king and a separate twin bed which was absolutely adorable! The twin was nestled into an alcove by the window with a curtain to block it off and a separate light switch. The rooms looked exactly like the pictures. We were blown away. Such cute design features and looked fresh and updated. The bed linens were crisply white and luxurious. The furniture was modern, stylish, and all felt intentional. It is a small studio space with excellent storage throughout. Despite not listing ocean views, we were actually able to see a peek of the ocean from the large windows which also let in fantastic natural light! As we made our way with our toddler along the very short walk to the beach access, a second hotel employee stopped us to give us a friendly warning about the winter tide/waves. I was surprised that someone would go out of their way to share information to keep us safe. Just another example of exceptional customer service. If you love the downtown cannon beach area, this location cannot be beat. You are just blocks (steps really!) away from coffee, pizza, restaurants, shops and candy stores. The shower was fantastic. Clean, cute, and the provided shower products smelled great. The fan and heat lamp in the bathroom are on convenient timer switches. The mini split provided wonderful temperature control and was both quiet and efficient with warming up our room. This hotel feels like it is small business owned and we could not have been happier with our stay. Such a great value. We are already making plans to come back. Thank you for a great experience!
