My girlfriend went in with severe swelling and a tooth that was infected and needing pulled. It was too infected to pull so they gave her amoxicillin (for infection) and advil for pain. I asked why she couldnt get something more for the severe pain and was given no answer. I called back 3x and asked to speak to the dentist. She never called me back. Atleast have the guts to speak to your customer. Find another place. Location is on the side of a grocery store too. Go to a dentist that has their own office building. read more

I thought it was just ok, I didn't feel that comfortable here. I wanted this to be my place but I don't think it will be. They canceled my second appointment without explanation the night before. I had to reschedule, which is hard for me because of the crippling PTSD I suffer from. I used the absolute dental plan, and they do the least amount of work to maximize profit. My two lower molars are still sensitive a year later. The dentist had said that I would be required to get root canals. I don't agree with that because I have had crowns done before without root canals. They have an office they refer you to for root canals. I want to say well it could be an obvious kickback. I can't say for sure of course. The dental cleaning was good. When I told the hygienist that I suffer from horrible PTSD due to trauma, he recommended that I make fun of my trauma. Like it's something I can control, I usually go home in misery because dental offices just don't get. I had written this on my intake form but I guess no cared to read it. I have been going here for many years and frankly just have taken them for granted. These people are awesome. I am a great customer with quite a few teeth issues. I go for at least 4 cleanings a year , 2 by insurance and I pay cash for the others. I travel a lot and am a busy person. They text me appointment information when needed, accommodate time when needed, I grab cancelations on short notice, the billing is flawless. Now, that being said I am a professional, I supply my insurance information to all my Dr's , Dentist, Optometrist right when I get a new card. They give me quotes prior to visiting if I ask so I can check my HSA card balance ( approximate quotes needs to be clarified for those who are morons. It's in imperfect business until they open the hood and inspect) Don't blame them because your insurance crappy or your insurance organization is poorly run. It's your job to know what is covered, it is a courtesy that they check for you. Everyone here is a pleasure, they are organized and easy to stop in and get it done. I just moved to AZ from Los Angeles. This is the first time I have to do something like take a WHOLE tooth out because it was no longer good, all on my own with out family here to comfort me. I was very nervous and the staff made me feel so welcomed and comfortable. As I received my numbing shot (which doc Mayer is amazing at giving) Stacy held my hand. That meant a lot To me. The same day I called for more questions and they never seem bothered or annoyed to help, they are actually happy I do call so they can check on how I'm doing. They were even able to get me in the next day. She explained exactly how my insurance would be able to be applied and really broke it down, with NO judgment passed! Very welcoming! Turning around and running NEVER crossed my mind, in fact I was early and I just waited briefly and that could been a good chance to run. Stacy showed me back and took x-rays and pictures. She also was so VERY kind! And again not judgement at all. Talked me through every move and even had me laughing and smiling along the way. If covid didn't require us to stay 6feet apart, I probably would have hugged them both! Then there is the main man Dr. Mayer, he also was extremely kind and also no judgement passed. He was VERY gentle and really broke down a time line for getting me back on track and assured me it would be a lot easier and a lot less painful compared to the fear that had held me back for so long. well still not to the bottom of this billing situation. The last resort is to write a letter to corporate explaining the mishaps of the finacial aspect of this dentist office. The billing person Billy as been billing the incorret dental insurance, insists its our fault but we provided the insurance card, do whoever keyed in the information is at fault. Billy blamed us so much, my husband had to tell her that it was rude to keep blaming the customer. When my husband called he was placed on hold by the receptionist, and she placed on a silent hold because he could hear Billy yelling and talking inappropriate talk about my husband and I. Well on a Saturday night he is writing to corperate. So we can get to the end of this rude behavior, no one eill allow me to speak to the dentist he callled me twice but the receptionist keeps withholding the calls enough is enough. read more

The office administration and insurance billing/resolution process is shambolic. It is shocking to experience a staff that does not professionally approach patient invoice matters in a competent manner. A billed service is represented as one set charge and billed as such yet then evolves into an increase by over 500%. Clearly the staff is ill-trained as to explaining various plan reimbursement scenarios prior to/at time of service. Such a lack of knowledgeable personnel leads to poor management of the office and incomprehensible explanations for charges - exploitative of patients seeking treatment. Furthermore, the dentist has neglected to provide patient care within the bounds of professional dental standards of care. To wit: completely missing/ignoring a serious dental problem resulting in a serious exacerbation of what originally could have been a simple procedure and avoiding a serious cascade of painful and costly complications. This practice is unacceptable by todays reasonable dental practice standards. The proper Arizona Dental Association oversight authorities have been alerted to this practice. read more

This review is based on customer service. The assistant who polished my teeth was great. The dentist who consulted me was great. The receptionist Maria who scheduled my appt was horrible. I called in, made an appointment. I made it very clear that I wanted a follow up call confirming that my insurance was accepted before showing up to my appointment. Long story short, never got the call, showed up for appointment, was re-assured my cleaning would be covered because they accept that insurance. 3 days later, phone call comes in, insurance doesnt cover me there. Now they want to charge me. I refused to pay, she said they would write off the balance. Now I have to go to a new dentist. Make another appointment, take more time off. I didn't want to write this but its been 3 months since my first "deep cleaning" here and over 6 weeks since my last (since they claimed it needed to be done 3 different times) and I am in the most pain I've ever been in my entire life. It first started with jaw pain and a clogged ear on my left side. Then, after the second visit, my entire lower jaw was in extreme pain. I wish I hadn't gone back the third time but I foolishly trusted that they knew what they were doing and it was best for my oral health. Now, I've developed tinnitus and hyper acusis from these issues that is unbearable. My teeth also hurt and feel like the nerves are exposed. When I eat, I have to move my teeth afterwards and floss because it feels like they're out of place. When I went in for my last visit, I mentioned to the dentist that my gums were swollen and didn't feel right. He said he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary in my mouth. A few days after the last visit, my right side of my face went numb. I will never again go to this office. I don't even trust going to another dentist in fear it'll get worse. My ENT said that some dentists will say you need a deep cleaning when you really don't so I'm thinking this was also the case here. I have spent so much money with doctors trying to get myself back to feeling normal with no luck. I've read that some dentists will claim TMJ to protect themselves but I've NEVER EVER had this pain before this and have never been told I have TMJ. I have nothing personal against the hygienist but I feel I should mention the hygienist's name, Parish. I don't know if she just wasn't trained well or damaged something while I was numb from the injections but clearly their staff lacks proper training. It makes me so sad to write this but the pain I've been through is so much and I hope no one else has to go through this. I've cried almost every day since and have had to take time off work because I simply cannot function with the tremendous pain and pressure along my ears and jaw. It feels like nails on a chalkboard for my ears and my jaw feels so much pressure. My bite isn't even straight anymore. Even with a mouth guard. I distract myself however I can on days I have less pain but its affected my personal hobbies and my job. I used to have so many active hobbies and now I just want to sleep to not feel the pain. I don't know when I'll get better and I don't know how to prove what happened since legal action is so expensive but I wanted to write this to hopefully prevent someone else from going through this. I had a good experience with one doctor that I worked with at this location some years back but he no longer works here and now the practice in my experience has continuedto decline. I was in pain after the doctor started hitting my teeth during an exam and a couple days later the pain was bad. Long story short they misdiagnosed my tooth based on there taps on my teeth, missed the Crack in the tooth on the x-ray but advised me to do a root canal and crown about $4000 on a tooth that had no issue! I had two other opinions with x-rays and they both said that there was no issue with the other tooth. While I was trying to figure out the infection part and why the antibiotics were working after 4 days since the pain was getting worse and worse. I called the office and they told me that unless I was ready for the $4k Bill there was nothing they could do. I asked maybe trying a different antibiotic would help but they says no stating that they weren't just going to keep giving me pills like I was a drug addiction, lol. Who wants to take antibiotics. This is not the only issue that I had with them although my worst and last experience. Terrible experience from the front office to the dentists..Money talks with them not People. Very judgemental and unkind. This will be followed by a BBB compliant as I told the office manager I would. Hopefully, your office with learn to treat people with kindness. read more

CUSTOMER BEWARE - I would give negative stars if I could!!!! Unscrupulous business practice alert! My wife had some dental work done here earlier in the year and referred me. When I came in filled out the paperwork and provided my insurance card. I initially came in for a checkup (08/01/16) and the dentist advised me that I needed a deep cleaning. The office manager/sales vulture, Billi, looked up my insurance and showed me the treatment plan and cost based on my insurance benefits. I agreed and had the 1/2 of my mouth completed and aid $136.80 and I scheduled an additional appointment to have the other half of my mouth done. I felt she was being to pushy then because she was trying to peddle some additional services in which I turned down because I didn't have a few thousands to spend. As a result of the bad vibe I got I canceled the followed up appointment because I did not feel comfortable with the service I was provided. To my surprise I received a bill in the mail in October stating that I had a balance of $125. I called Billi and she said that my insurance stated I was inactive when the service was done. I explained to her that was incorrect because I already checked with my insurance and they stated that no claims had been submitted and I was indeed active. I then asked her to verify the information that she has for me and she said she knows it correct because it's what I provided. I insisted that she verified and once she did I was able to confirm that the information she had was incorrect and I again provided her the correct insurance information. My wife was in extreme pain and went in to have a tooth extracted. Billi gave her an estimate of $1085 based on the insurance benefits. My wife knew that was incorrect and went to another dentist and we only paid $36. It's a shame that my wife had to go to another dental provider while she was in extreme pain. Since Billi said that my insurance was inactive and did not have my correct insurance information, how did she come up with the cost which was supposedly based on my insurance benefits. Yelp audience - If you are confused by reading this, don't worry its not you. Something is not adding up which is why we feel like she is trying to run a scam and cover her tracks. We had already spent a good deal of money )in the thousands) from previous services done which makes me question if we were correctly billed then. I can't tolerate unscrupulous business practices and when someone or a company is to prideful to admit they made a mistake. What upsets me the most is how my wife was treated! I can take a buch of crap but don't mess with my wife. Billi's poor customer service has escalated this situation instead of just fixing it. I always think it's idiotic and immoral of a company to avoid doing the right thing when caught in a mistake. This situation is disgusting and still has not been resolved. I've been through a number of dentists over the years, changing if I don't like their service or personnel, so I'm not easy to please when it comes to dentistry. I was referred to Mountainside by my wife who raved about them, but it still took me over a year to book an appointment. Now I'm sorry that I waited so long! My wife sees Dr. Wright and I see Dr. Mayer and we have no complaints about the doctors or the staff there. The dental-hygienist, Suzanne, is very gentle but thorough in her cleanings and took the time to explain what I could do to improve my checkups. Everyone is friendly and we have had no issues with the dental care or even the billing! We highly recommend Mountainside Family Dental. We drive 12 miles each way and it's worth the effort!
