Had a wonderful weekday lunch here first week of Jan 2017. Service was prompt and friendly. I was pleased with the choices on the menu. Was recommended to us by a friend from DownPatrick. I loved the oysters in white wine, cream and plenty of fresh fragrant parsley on top. My dining companion had the scallops and was delighted. The place had a nice buzz and great decor. So disappointing. Overpriced, over-salted, over cooked food. The mussels in korma were decent, the piri piri prawns were nice. The salmon entree was so over cooked that the fish was just dry and stringy. The sea bass was incredibly fishy tasting and not in the good way, it definitely was not fresh. Our server was terrible and rude, she seemed very annoyed by having to do anything for us like take our order!!!! When I asked for the salmon to be on the rare side she replied nastily "our chef knows what he's doing, your fish will be cooked HIS way! It turned out terrible. The worst part was after our meal, seeing into the kitchen and a cook coughing and blowing his nose, tossing the tissue in the trash and going right back to handling food. It's a tourist place, if you are a true seafood lover then don't bother. Plenty of other places in beautiful Belfast. read more

The oysters are pretty good, creamy and meaty. The crab claws are good too. But it just requires a lot of work to crack all the claws and it could be messy. Not recommended for dates. The seafood casserole has one oyster, one crab claw, mussels, fish filets, potatoes in tomato sauce. The oyster and crab claw are not as good as the ones before but still good. The dish looks and tastes good, just a bit greasy (maybe they added a lot of butter). The dinner time is busy. You have to make reservations on Saturday nights. Sunday noon time between 1-4pm is first come first served. read more

We found this spot on Google by Accident and wow what a gem!! Great seafood and the staff was wonderful! We only had 1 night in Belfast and soo glad we had dinner here. Oliver's - Newtonards. Utterly brilliant! At long last, both superb food + service in Belfast. Run, don't walk or hesitate, to this casual fine dining restaurant in Belmont area of Belfast. We are American expats living 2 yrs. in Belfast to be w Ireland family. Previously lived in NYC now So. Cal. Returning from Belfast to current home in Newport Beach, CA this month. Our loss, having just discovered Oliver's nearby, approx. 1 yr. after opening. Unpretentious, minimal industrial modern ambiance - with warm-lit brick walls, wood-burning n warming hearth, I-beam passage from bar to dining area. Haven't even made it yet to the set menu, as the daily board specials dazzle. And the service? What a welcome, refreshing and loooong overdue addition to Belfast. Attentive (a sad rarity here) and ever-accommodating. Just ask the young but smarter-than-their-years staff. Each and every one trained and 'aware' as though you were dining Easy/West Coastal fine dining US. I could write 100 more words of praise, but that would waste your time. I first encountered the Mourne Seafood Bar one afternoon last July. My husband and I had just purchased a mobile phone in the City Centre. Hubby asked the man who rang up our purchase where to find the restaurant and he highly recommended the mussels. Mourne does fantastic mussels (a small pot is plenty as a starter for 2 people) and even my toddler can't get enough of them. You have a choice of a korma or a white wine garlic cream broth. I most enjoy the seafood casserole, and two memorable specials include a seabream (amazingly moist meat and a crispy skin) over homemade saffron gnocchi and fresh vegetables and a delicious pasta with greens, chili garlic oil, and perfectly cooked bay scallops. You do need to make a reservation, however on 3 occasions we were most fortunate to drop in and have a meal. I must also say that the staff are classy and treat their customers with great respect (take note Apartment). The fish mongers working up front are top notch, friendly and are more than happy to answer your questions. If you are visiting Belfast, this is a must try and I can not wait to try out their other location and I have been told there is even are cooking classes available! read more

If you like fish, eat here. It's as simple as that. This spacious restaurant also has a fishmonger at the front, which looks great during the day when it is full of chipped ice and fresh fish, but can look a bit freaky when you walk past it on your way in of an evening when it's all stainless steel glinting at you in a menacing fashion. Once past this though, the restaurant is practical but cosy. It has a huge variety of fish and shellfish, all of which is really well cooked and presented. There are a couple of non-fish dishes - generally steak, chicken etc - just in case you're with someone who is that way inclined. The crabs are a real treat. You feel like a real hunter gatherer as you crack away at them, poking with the special little implement they provide to uncover tiny mouthfuls of the delicious meat. Fun, but messy, and don't order this if you're starving as they require time and a bit of hard work. I recommend ordering them for desert so you can pick over them while relaxing after you undoubtedly delicious meal. read more

I had the monk fish, which was undeniably delicious and full of flavor. Also, I had the chowder. The chowder here is some of the best I've had anywhere in the world. The mussels were great, but I could have used a little more soupiness at the bottom to dip them in. When I arrived here, it was late and I had no reservation, so please make one beforehand because it will be tough to get in if you don't. I happened to have a nice chat with the host and even though no spot was available, he tried to accommodate me, my mate, and my gf. In the end, at first we were unable to get a table, but he pulled some strings and we were immensely happy that he did. The food here is great, and they have great drinks too. I was sooooo looking forward to visiting Mourne Seafood Bar after reading all the reviews and getting my hand on a copy of their cookbooks. Well, it was a huge disappointment. I was really hesitating whether to write a review at all, as it could have been just a bad day we went there, but reviews are not only all about 5 star experiences, right? I was determined to try something I've never had before e.g. lobsters or oysters. When we arrived, the waitress informed us that unfortunately there are no lobsters or oysters... Pfff, that's all about me going for something special on my birthday. I wasn't happy at all because this basically left us with 5-6 main courses to choose from. The Mr went for the home-made fish fingers and liked them. He could literally eat a horse so he was only complaining about the size of the portion - which he does wherever we go but still this time he was right. I would rather serve that portion as a starter. I chose the seafood risotto and was hoping for lots of seafood obviously. However, I was a bit shocked when it arrived. 2 wee prawns and a piece of squid - that's all I could find digging into my plate and not much of a flavour really - you would not expect that for like 16.50, would you? I was really disappointed. Also, as we were served literally within 10 minutes after taking our orders, I would tend to think that my risotto was not only prepped (which is totally okay in case of a risotto) but was cooked for who knows how long and was just heated up for me. Staff was okay, not overly friendly but acceptable - especially given the fact that it looked like a busy night. I'm only giving two stars instead of one because the restaurant itself is a nicely decorated and clean spot with a good atmosphere. Anyone staying at a hotel around the Jurys Inn this place is a very short walk and well worth it. We walked in without reservations and were seated in minutes. The food was fantastic! Amazing place. World famous of course and I can see why. I am not the biggest sea food fan but really enjoyed this place. Share the bowl of muscles and had Salmon also. Was top notch. Only slight draw back was that we had to eat upstairs due to downstairs being renovated, so upstairs was smaller but still not a many issue. Great place. read more

We were very excited to try the Mourne after hearing such amazing reviews..however when we reached the host we were greeted with some serious rudeness. It was a Monday night and the restaurant was barely at half capacity, however we were told the earliest we could get a table was in FOUR hours, at nine (21) o'clock. Everything in Belfast pretty much closes at nine and MAYBE this restaurant closes a little later, but I truly believe we were shunned away because we are Americans. Pity, but took our business to the Whig house nearby and that was very delicious. EDIT: To the owner's response, I find it unlikely that the business was fully booked. As previously mentioned, it was a Monday night, with barely half of the tables taken. Even on busy Friday/ Saturday nights, the average wait time from other reviews say they were able to be seated in about an hour. Four hours on a Monday night is what's truly ludicrous, not my suspicions about being an American. read more

At last a restaurant that celebrates one of Ulsters greatest exports, it's seafood. It's just shame the local population still prefer beef and chicken to our great seafood. Mourne seafood bring fresh fish and shellfish from local fisheries and prepare it here in a way that rivals any seafood bar I've ate at in the US, Canada or New Zealand. The oysters are great, the fish of the day with mushrooms and gnocchi very good. Then ice cream with rhubarb and apple crumble for another local taste for dessert. The local beer on tap was really good aswell. The deal clincher for me was the staff. A waiter that could talk clearly, a bar man with a bit of craic who knew his wines and beers, plus a hostess that always checked in to see how we were doing. Definitely world class hospitality. Booked this reservation weeks in advance as I knew we would be in Belfast for my friend's birthday. No regrets. Food was delicious, service was good. Even their basic fish and chips was absolutely scrumptious and the sticky toffee pudding is the best we've ever had (and we've had it everywhere). The only tiny downside to the meal was the sauce for the crab was lacking a certain bit of pizzazz but opinions will differ on that, and the amount of time it took to get the bill and settle it after dessert was finished took quite a long time. I had my third dinner at Mourne Seafood Bar tonight, excellent experience when it comes to the quality of the food, ambience, pairing of the food with wine. Something quite unpleasant happened though: first of all our order for wine for main course was 'forgotten' an it took some time to get that straightened. My main course, seabream, was supposed to be served with chips that were never served. When I made a kind remark on that at the end of the dinner I was getting a very wishy-washy response and there was absolutely no effort to make the thing right. The responsible manager never came to our table, there were no apologies for either mishap etc. Mourne is absolutely a great place for seafood, stable in Belfast. You cannot, simply cannot go wrong here. If you are a Fan of seafood cuisine, then you must eat in here. It's a lovely experience. Now, it's not in the most fantastic location, it's kind of plonked out the back of the large Shopping Centre called Castlecourt, and you would ideally like it to be situated on the waterfront of the city, but despair not - once you get inside you forget all that because the food is second to none. It's always really busy and has a positive, exciting vibe, you're always surrounded by chatty, interesting people, and it's never quiet. They serve everything from Oysters, to mussels, salads, crab, steak and traditional fish and chips. All the fish is freshly caught in Dundrum Bay (where their main branch is), and is well cooked and beautifully presented. And there is always something for the non-fish lovers...my husband was very relieved to see steak on the menu. Go for the large pot of mussels - you won't regret it. read more

Went with a group of 12 on a golf trip from the US. The food was fresh, and in most cases, excellent. Good beer, good wine and cheerful, helpful staff. A fine first reveling in Belfast. Will definitely come again. Compared to US west coast prices, the check was very reasonable. Total abut 70 lbs each for 6 couples with aetizers, drinks, entrees and deserts. If you love seafood this is the place. You know what your getting straight away when you walk in the door and the smell of fish hits you from the front of shop that is a fish mongers by day. The atmosphere is friend and welcoming with down stairs more intimate for two than upstairs but throughout the entire place there is a lovely pub buzz. Have been at least 5 times and have never been let down. I would recommend it to anyone but you have to book in good time especially at the weekend. read more
