"I cannot wait until I can afford movers." I think I've uttered this exact line at least 72 times in my life. My last move probably accounted for 50 of those. There's a good chance you've expressed a similar sentiment if you've ever had to deal with the rigid standards of DC apartment loading docks and freight elevators, as well as the interminable wait times of Moving Truck companies. In fact, you can scroll down in my reviews and see my last bad experience with moving.
With that in mind, I heartily agreed with my girlfriend that we should just hire a moving company and save ourselves all the hassle and stress for her move two weekends ago. Sometimes I hate you Dramatic Irony.
We went with Movemedc based on a recommendation. She did all the necessary legwork. Signed a contract, got the agreement in writing, the confirmation email, etc. She also called a few days before the move and received another confirmation, and was told they'd be there for Saturday at 2:00 sharp. I helped her all week to make sure we'd have everything boxed up, and organized to make it as quick and easy for the movers as possible. Of course, Movemedc then shows up over three hours late. Three hours!
Naturally, this put the entire move in jeopardy. As everyone knows, a move is a delicate operation that requires coordinating and scheduling with several different entities at once. (friends, neighbors, elevators, loading docks, traffic, parking, etc.) Well, maybe not everyone, since Movemedc casually asks if it would be okay to reschedule. Reschedule! One does not just reschedule a move, just as one does not simply walk into Mordor.
The worst part is the reason they were three hours late. It wasn't a flat tire, or a crazy accident on the Beltway, or a personal emergency for a mover. Nope. The owner of Movemedc simply booked us for the wrong day. After three separate and different forms of confirmation, two of those being written. He never once looked down and said "Wait a minute, I have a truck reserved for next Saturday, but according to the contract, email confirmation, and client phone call, it's actually this Saturday." Nope, completely oblivious. Congratulations Movemedc, you've set a new standard for incompetence.
I still can't wait for the day I can afford movers. It will be fast, easy, and hassle-free. Because next time, in my idealistic fantasy world, I'll actually find a moving company that can use a Calendar properly. read more
