1 of 2 bouldering areas
Patrick O.

One of the smaller climbing gyms I've been to. It was pretty crowded on a Thursday night. The wait long for top rope routes wasn't too bad, but it always felt like there wasn't much space to move when trying to give active routes some space or stand/sit as you try to map a route before attempting. The 2 bouldering sections are pretty small. There was a musty smell throughout. Overall, an alright place to climb in the peninsula if you don't want to make the trip/drive to other climbing locations in the middle of the week.

This place is awesome. Apparently there's not as many routes as the South Bay location but I think there are still an amazing amount of variety. I'm a BEGINNER beginner (I've only gone a few times in my life) and so I will talk about the V0, V1 beginner routes for bouldering There is one section of the gym that has a lot more V0, V1 beginner routes (the section with the swing). I spent an ample amount of time there! It is $30 for a guest pass but my friend had a membership so she was able to get my friend and I in for free! I came here on a Thursday afternoon and it was not too busy (I didn't have to wait at all for any routes). I'd say the perfect amount of people, definitely gets busier as the post work crew comes around. Parking on the street nearby!

On Belay !! It's climb time baby !!!

Just spent the day with my nearest and dearest friends climbing and learning to Belay at Planet Granite in San Carlos. I have a niece that is destined for greatness. She is this tiny ball of insane energy and she needs to always be active. I wanted to give her a day of excellence for her birthday. I called Planet Granite about 5 days ago and I spoke with Maddie. I asked her hundreds of questions (I'm old school. Screw websites. I like to call and chat ) Maddie was professional and courteous and informative on the phone. She explained everything and answered every question concisely and professionally. She helped me book my classes and rentals ahead of time. The prices and process were fair and simple. Upon arrival. We had completed the orientation video and waivers so it was simple to get our rental gear. Now is the time I should say that. I was 100% newb. I was kinda low key terrified. Edder our instructor was patient , proficient and extremely capable. I've dealt with "professionals" that are condescending or rude or arrogant or just downright insulting. Edder was non of those things. He explained things simply and he used several teaching techniques to ensure that we understood the lessons. In one hour I was comfortable enough to belay my nieces and we spent the better part of three hours climbing. (We climbed until our novice muscles told us to quit.). The facility itself and the rental gear were clean. Everyone was courteous and wearing masks. Covid precautions were on point without nonsense. It felt welcoming and inclusive. I saw a freaking toddler climbing like Spider-Man. I didn't feel judged or feel that I was inferior to anyone while I tried my hand at climbing. I'd call this atmosphere "A very safe and inviting place to try something totally new and confidence building." I highly recommend that anyone who's curious bring a group of friends and try planet granite. It's worth it !! Thanks Maddie for your patience and professional demeanor on the phone. Edder. Thanks for being a true dude and for helping me make my nieces birthday a special day (that we survived !!). Every single staff member I met at PG was super kind and inviting. I made it a point to remember Edder (he da man !) and Maddie because I interacted with them the longest but all the PG staff are great folks.

Jen O. is a dick. Just wanted to say that while talking to her she was like that. The rest of the staff is good, and the place is fun.

It can get quite crowded because this gym is smaller than most of the other Planet granite locations.

I arrived about 10 minutes early, thinking I would get a quick tutorial but I did not. Of course I have seen pilates in videos before, but did not know the terms or how to use the reformer properly. I just went with the flow of class and what the instructor was saying. From time to time, she did come to correct me, but otherwise who knows if I was doing the moves correctly. It was overall a good class, would have been better if I was given a quick run down but that was not the case.

TL:DR - highly recommend!…read more My rocksalt journey started a little over two years ago. I've tried so many group classes (kick boxing, cycling, group power, HIIT, yoga, etc) but never stayed with any, until now! I started with one class per week and now I make time to go three times, along with my other activities. I have tried 4 other Pilates studios in the PA/MP/RWC area and rocksalt is my favorite in terms of overall quality of the workout and value. Love the vibe. The owner, Christine, is a literal rockstar, absolute best! She's so fit and strong - inspiration to us all! Her classes are energetic, challenging yet fun! She was my first class and SOLD me! I feel so good and proud of myself after each workout. Also love Ruth and Marissa but all her instructors are awesome! Studio is clean, tidy and welcoming. Christine owns both the RWC and MP I've always been average build and a healthy weight. I was active and my goals were to tone up and build strength and rocksalt did that for me! Even my critical Asian mother approves - this is huge! Couple tips for newbies: 1. There are three types of classes (all 50 minutes): stretch, strength, sweat. They all have a combo of cardio and strength, depending on the type of class, the emphasis is where it differs. For your first one, I recommend "stretch". 2. Take it easy. Each instructor will give modifications for different levels. I also love that they are very gentle and discreet when correcting your form (that was me a lot in the beginning!) Don't be discouraged if you cannot do everything. 3. Pay attention to the instructor's direction on form/placement. Eg feet under the silver footbar, don't go past the shoulders. These make a huge difference. 4. Give it at least 3 classes. After my first class, I was super sore! I felt so challenged. But I persevered and so glad I did! (after 2 months, even my friends complimented that I was more toned) 5. Come early for your first class so the instructor can show you the basics. Pilates reformer classes are one of the best investments I've made for my health. I also truly enjoy the classes and being inspired by others (ladies much older than me in better shape and way stronger!). Hope this was helpful!

HOTWORX being open 24 hours is honestly a game changer. My schedule can get busy, and having the flexibility to book sessions whenever it works for me has made it so much easier to stay consistent. The concept of infrared sauna workouts is something you truly have to experience to understand. You're in a private sauna room choosing from multiple guided sessions, everything from yoga and Pilates to high-intensity interval training (HIIT). No matter which workout I choose, I leave drenched in sweat but in the best way possible. What really stands out is how I feel afterward. Instead of feeling completely drained like some traditional workouts, I feel relaxed, lighter, and almost reset. The infrared heat helps reduce soreness, speeds up recovery, and gives you that detox feeling that makes your body feel refreshed from the inside out. It's the perfect combination of intense and therapeutic. Now let me talk about Neil L. phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe him. He took the time to personally show us around, explain how each session works, and break down how to maximize results. He wasn't just giving a tour; he was educating us. He shared tips on how to structure workouts, how to stay consistent, and how to really push ourselves while still listening to our bodies. His encouragement genuinely motivates you to try your best. What I also appreciated was how knowledgeable he is about their products. He doesn't "sell" you he explains how everything supports your goals. From supplements to recovery tools, he connects it all back to performance and consistency, which honestly makes you want to invest in yourself and keep showing up. The atmosphere at HOTWORX Belmont is clean, modern, and empowering. You feel like you're part of something focused on growth and wellness. If you're looking for a workout that makes you sweat, detox, recover faster, and actually feel good afterward this is it. Highly recommend HOTWORX Belmont and especially Neil L. for the outstanding customer care and support!

But unfortunately, the experience with their policy and customer support has been frustrating enough that I'm seriously reconsidering coming back. I've been dealing with a prolonged illness, and per their own policy, clients with symptoms are not allowed to attend class (which I fully respect). But when I reached out to explain my situation, I was only given a two-week extension -- no flexibility, no empathy, just a firm deadline. When I tried to use the remaining classes before expiration, I did not show up due to a worsening cough at the day of class-- again, trying to be responsible and follow their rules. I then received a late cancel/no show warning email, which said I'd normally be charged an extra $15 fee on top of the class I already paid for, just for being too sick to attend. Although the fee was waived this time, the tone of the message and the overall approach felt more like a punishment system than a client-centered one. The policy is confusing, rigid, and completely lacking in support for people dealing with health issues. It left me feeling discouraged and unwelcome -- not something I expect from a wellness studio.

They don't have a reception area so I was a little lost walking in but I just followed what everyone else was doing. The workout itself was fine. Compared to the classes I took in the past I didn't find the instructor to be helpful. When I got home I got an email about my bill from Pilates V which was a charge for grip socks which I did not purchase. I ended up reaching out to management for a refund. There was a couple back and forth with the emails where I had to reach out for updates. It did become a bit frustrating because I didn't talk to the instructor at all but was told that the instructor said it was me that purchased. In the end I received my refund which I was thankful for however I feel like this could have been solved in a more efficient way. I ended up not using the rest of the Groupon classes but it's a loss I would rather take than take more classes.
