Due to the LASIK surgery I had many years ago, my cataract surgery wasn't a simple procedure and there were no guarantees that my vision could be returned to its glasses-free state. But, with dedication, patience, skill and optimism our joint goal was achieved and my vision is a good as it was before my cataract replacement surgery.

No one wants to review a hospital, but life happens!…read more I was brought here after breaking my leg hiking in Acadia, and the staff were amazing. People took really good care of me, gave me privacy and also attention, and were generally really supportive and skilled. My surgeon was awesome and has been following up with me since my return to Boston. During my overnight stay, the food was a highlight - even getting seafood chowder for lunch! If you have to come here, know you're in good hands.

I left this hospital with more pain, stress, and frustration than when I went into it. Avoid at all costs. Aha, I found it! :D…read more To recap from a previous review....years ago when I began my career in biotech, I landed a job that would become the foundation for everything that would follow. The problem was that in this new position, a large part of my day would involve collection of blood and tissues. And the mere sight of blood would make me pass out cold. Not good! I didn't know what to do -- I knew I needed this job in order to build the career I'd envisioned for myself, but my own biology was standing in the way. My mom suggested I look into hypnosis, and although I did (and still do) scoff at "alternative medicine" I figured what the hell, I was desperate. I did some searching and found Phil Brady at Advanced Hypnosis. Since it's been so many years I don't know what's changed since then, but at the time Phil worked out of his home. He had a quiet, cozy room set aside upstairs for hypnosis sessions, complete with a comfy chair and noise-canceling headphones. After discussing my issues with him, we got started. The headphones shut out all extraneous sounds but he had them wired so that his voice came through over a background of white noise (I think in my case it was ocean sounds). The session went extremely well and I was surprised that I was able to "go under" so easily. When the session was over, I felt more relaxed and refreshed than I ever remember feeling - before or since. I have been to a couple other hypnotherapists since then, but none has come close to this overall experience. I literally felt like I'd just woken up from a full week's nap. No subsequent hypnotherapy session has made me "go under" as far (that's the only way I can think to describe it) and I almost feel like I've been chasing the dragon ever since. Then, the most amazing thing happened. I went to work the following week and put it to the test....and to my surprise, I was totally fine. No passing out, no wooziness, nothing. I was able to do my work with no issues. I still can't believe all it took was one session to "fix" me but I'm not gonna argue -- whatever it is Phil does that's different from the rest is really something else. I only wish I still lived in Maine so I could go back.

Later, when my MD blew me off when I told her I wanted/needed specialized dietary/allergy testing, Dr. Aker lead the way. This has improved my life beyond my wildest dreams. Then he suggested that I needed orthotics. I resisted, feeling that seemed for "old" people, not me.
