Absolutely great folks at Dr. Albert's office. My wife and I are visiting family in Maine and we decided to take a brief side trip to Acadia NP. Apparently one of the screws holding my lenses in their frame decided to take a permanent side trip and this morning one lense popped out. I could find no relief in Bar Harbor and called Dr. Albert's office. They said come by and they would see what they could do. Although they appeared to be busy when I showed up they immediately knew who I was and said "Sit down and relax and we will take a look". I had only a few minutes to "relax" before they fixed my glasses but during that time I looked around. My impression was that this office was very well organised/run and the ladies that helped me were courteous and obviously competent. Also, there was a large display area for frames, etc. so that patients would have a big selection to choose from. To top if off they would not accept any payment. Dr Albert not only saved my eyesight, he was calm and gentle. He really went above and beyond squeezing me in several days in a row in order to preserve my vision. He even checked in with me over weekends to make sure I was ok. I really cannot recommend him enough! read more

I have been going to this office since I was in grade school and love Dr. Albert and staff.....my issue is that after going to him for at least 20 years, he is now only accepting MaineCare for insurance. I wasent made aware of this until I physically showed up for an appointment for myself and my daughter and I didn't have a choice but to pay it. For our glasses and contacts we were handed paper scripts and told it will be cheaper to order somewhere else., and then also told that I had an outstanding balance from a year prior that I needed to pay of $200 THAT THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME ABOUT! It makes me incredibly sad because in all the years I've gone I have NEVER had a single complaint, until now. My entire family will be finding a new eye doctor. read more

Dr Albert is a great optometrist, the problem is with the office staff especially the billing practice which needs a lot of improvement. When questioned they become highly offensive and unable to answer why the bill is what it is also why it took a full year to let you know you had a bill. On the day of my appointment I fond that he no longer accept VSP Health insurance. read more

My daughter had seen Doctor Albert for a few years. His expertise is wonderful. In addition to his professional manner. He is a joy to have as a doctor. However today I went in to pick up my daughter's contacts and the office crew was so bad. They overcharged me for the contacts, hadn't submitted proper codes and paperwork to the insurance company, and tried to imply insurance fraud because I wanted it coded properly. The confusion, they claim stems from a third party who submits it to the insurance company. They still are responsible for the claims being correct! One lady walked up and snapped at me, then left the room, I asked to get her name, and another one snapped and told me she was the owner. Well maybe having someone so immature as the owner might be part of the problem. I called my daughter to see if she wanted to pay for it, or not. She wanted to talk to them. They told me to put away the phone they were afraid I was taping them. What a mess. They were very unprofessional, and immature, and the whole thing escalated because instead of talking to me they were discussing the financial business from across the room. One receptionist tried to keep it somewhat professional, but the owner and the other lady just kept it going with no resolution. They went and had Doctor Albert talk to me. He was very nice and promised to look up my daughter's account and get back to me. I would never recommend using this service and I will never step foot back in that office for anything. I will however have my insurance company follow up because they need to be coding this bill correctly. Anyone having problems like this report it to the Bureau of Insurance overseers, as well as your own insurance company. That is part of their job as owners! read more

Dr. Albert and his staff are truly the BEST! This is a very busy practice- because they are so good. However, they always make time to see us if needed. My family and I have been going to Dr. Albert for many years now. We greatly appreciate Dr. Albert and his staff. You will not find a better optometrist! He is so kind, knowledgeable, and thorough. You will be in great hands with Dr. Albert. He is a fantastic diagnostician and saved my partner Terry Powers eyesight! Dr. Albert identified a tear in her retina and made it possible for her to have emergency surgery that same afternoon in Portland...this was a VERY busy and late summer Friday. To say the least, I am extremely disappointed with this practice. I get there, and the lady at the desk tells me that you no longer take my insurance, and no one bothered to tell me. I very nicely answered the texts about the appointment, I arrive on time, to be treated with the response of "we are short of help" is unacceptable. everyone is short of help!!! I left work three hours early and it took me an hour to drive there and back. read more

HORRIBLE experience. I only chose them because they were listed as supposedly "in network" on my plan and I had to drive 1.5 hours to get there, though they spent a long time arguing and denying it until confronted about it by an insurance supervisor later, who verified it with them. Dr. Albert's wife, Debbie, needs to get another job. She is incredibly RUDE and hung up on me the next day when I was trying to get some clarification on the differences in billing portions of the exam. I also got a lot of flack and was told I was "the one being rude for refusing" to have my eyes dialated. I couldn't do it because I needed to drive back home in the dark after the appointment finished at 5PM. Guess they didn't care if I could see afterwards or not, which is pretty ironic. Then they double-billed the insurance company on top of it all. My advice is if you can go anywhere else, do so, or if not, be sure wear metal armor to your appointment for the battle- you are going to need it by the time you are done. read more

I had an emergency eye issue when visiting Bar Harbor and the staff at the front desk were able to squeeze me in. They were especially friendly and helpful. Dr Paul was extremely kind - when he walked into the room, I immediately felt calm. He did a thorough eye exam (two times to make sure my retina was still attached) and talked me through what had happened. I was able to continue my vacation. Thank you to the entire team. Very unprofessional. Never have I had to return to the waiting room because the exam room I was going into had been "stolen" by another associate in the office. The exact words as we headed to the exam room was, "I stole your exam room" by another young lady and I was asked to return to the waiting room. Then I finally made it into an exam room only to wait even longer for the doctor. Oh how I am definitely going to make others aware of this. I will not return. Unprofessionalism tells me that there is no compassion or drive for accuracy or anything else. Sad. read more

I stumbled into Dr. Albert's offices a few years ago, with a sudden and serious eye issue. He took me right in, even though I was not a patient, diagnosed the problem, and gave me a course of treatment which eventually resolved the problem. Dr. Albert is gentle, thoughtful, insightful, and kind, and he has an excellent staff. And, he is skilled at his profession. I have no hesitation in recommending him. read more

One day I woke up with severe red eye. I wasn't sure what it was and went to a few general doctors for help. Whatever they prescribed me, made the eyes worse. Then, I was driving by and saw a sign for Dr. Paul Albert- Optometrist in Ellsworth. I stopped by and explained my situation. They saw me right away, Dr. Albert did a thorough review of my eyes and prescribed me medication that worked. In a week, I was much much better. In addition, not only did he find the solution to my eye problem, he called me over the weekend to make sure the medications were responding well and to see how I was doing. He really went above and beyond and now I only see him as my primary eye doctor. I would highly recommend him! read more

My 7 year old daughter had an appointment here and we sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes after check in. Not one comment, apology or reassurance that my daughter would be seen soon for her scheduled appointment. Terrible experience and service! We won't be going back! read more

I woke up the other morning to find that my puppy had destroyed my glasses. Without a backup pair I started to panic because I can't see anything without them. I called Dr Alberts office hoping they could get me some new ones fast. They told me to come right in. When I arrived I was met by Laurie. She asked to see my glasses. I dumped all the pieces in her hand and she said "let me see what I can do". With that she went in the back while I looked for new frames. In about 10minutes Laurie returned with my glasses and they looked brand new. Still had a few teeth marks on the lens but nothing serious. I was truly amazed at the service I received there. They are true professionals. I will not go anywhere else. The big plus? They didn't charge me a penny. Thank you Laurie. read more
