Shopping for a moving company can be a challenge. From first contact til we completed the move, Seamens was super helpful and professional every step of the way, and, by the way, came highly recommended by my new building as a suggested moving company. Many moving companies quote prices by the items you have, and provide a flat rate based on those items, which could increase or decrease on the day of the move. Seamens prices based on the hour, with a 4 hour labor minimum (and 1 hour min drive time). For certain types of moves, such as a large 1 bedroom like mine, this worked out perfectly for me. Once we got the ball rolling with their Sales team (Mike is awesome and patient), they provided the COI to the new building, and everything was super smooth. They showed up slightly early on move day, and was ready to go at the agreed time. The foreman (Oscar) was very knowledgable, professional, and communicated well throughout the move to his team, and to us as the customer. The team was careful with my belongings, and respectful to the property of both the pickup building and delivery building. I would definitely recommend Seamens for any NYC move.

The second mover Rocco C. was somewhat more professional and did offer occasional advice, which I appreciated. However, when it came time to pack the cube, his approach felt careless and dismissive of my concerns. Rather than being helpful and solution-oriented, the process created more stress and confusion, ultimately causing additional headaches instead of providing the support I hired movers for in the first place. My biggest issue was with the office representative, Mari. Pricing was not communicated transparently. I was not informed ahead of time that charges were calculated per item moved rather than per hour, which led to unexpected and significantly higher costs. The office representative was adamant in charging me extra for an item that we previously discussed. The way this was handled felt misleading and came across as an attempt to overcharge. Overall, the experience lacked professionalism, clear communication, and customer care. I absolutely do NOT recommend using this company. Don't be swayed by any discounts or these five star reviews. I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and was pretty worried about how this would go. They sent three guys who were punctual, professional and exceptionally hard working! One did most of the wrapping and packing while the other two brought the furniture and boxes down and did most of the loading on the truck. At some point while they packed and emptied my apartment I fell asleep on my sofa. The guys were nice enough to pack around me and move everything else until I woke up so they wouldn't disturb me! Really really thoughtful. I've lived in the city for years and have moved a handful of times and none of the previous movers compared to these. You can tell it wasn't their first rodeo. After a few items were wrapped, protected and loaded with care I relaxed and realized they'd do a fantastic job. They packaged things like the TV and larger plants so carefully that not even a single leaf was broken! Crazy but true! Yes, they charge for packaging some stuff in boxes but it was very fair and discussed ahead of time. I didn't have issues with the estimate being low and final price being higher as I read in other reviews. The estimate they gave me was pretty spot on. I was given a range depending on how many boxes they had to pack and it was on the lower end of the range. The only issue I had was that the truck got a ticket and the company called and asked to split it. I didn't like that because it's pretty standard that all delivery and loading trucks get ticketed in the city. I've never heard of the customer sharing that. They didn't press the issue tho so in the end it was fine. I gave them 5 stars because the service was hands down the best I've had and will definitely use them again! I highly recommend them-

We had a three man crew, and one man seemed to be very confused about where to go and what to do at all times. I have moved twice in the city before and both times have been way faster and efficient. My partner and I ended up helping unload the truck and boxes ourselves just to keep them moving along. I also had to supply them my own blanket to wrap a computer monitor in because they did not know how to pack it. In addition, I found that the extra costs were a bit much. We were charged a driving time of 30 mins to get to the first location even though the apartment was a 10 minute drive from the warehouse. We were also told we would get a $60 "box credit" which helped cover TV boxes on the day of the move, but then we got charged an additional $100 for other materials used (blankets, tape, wrap, etc.) Normally moving companies do not charge you for tape. They got our belongings from point A to point B, and nothing was majorly damaged. However, I am not sure we would use this moving company again.

Don't risk it - hire someone who has been in business for a long time and knows what he's doing. Whatever mover you take, I strongly suggest getting an in-person estimate to avoid surprises when they arrive. Couple questions to ask your mover: 1/ How long has your crew worked together? My sister's husband had to relocate to Germany due to urgent work issues, and they had only one week to pack and move there. Just imagine how much stuff you need to do. Luckily they hired Shepherd International Movers to help them with the move. Thank you guys for doing such a tremendous job with the upbeat pace and a professional grit. At 8 am they were already working, packing and wrapping my sister's kitchen. We thought that the entire process will take two days to complete since they moved long distance but with these movers everything was done much quicker. And there were no additional charges whatsoever. What a relief because the previous time they ended up paying twice the price of what they had originally budgeted working with much less know moving company and having a bunch of peculiar extra charges that they were not even aware about. With this moving company the whole process was clear from the booking till the delivery. And the sales guys broke down all the charges upfront so they knew exactly what they can expect at the end.
