We had heard plenty of horror stories from friends and family about moving companies, so we were a little nervous going into the process but Jay's Small Moves completely exceeded our expectations. Roberto and his team arrived right on time and had our condo loaded incredibly quickly. Even though we didn't have any boxes containing fragile items, they treated every piece of furniture with great care, carefully wrapping everything in moving blankets and plastic wrap before loading it. It was clear they took pride in protecting our belongings. They arrived at our new apartment on schedule and placed every piece of furniture exactly where we wanted it without any issues. From start to finish, including the drive across the Bay, the entire move took about four hours--roughly two hours faster than we expected. The entire experience was efficient, professional, and stress-free. We would absolutely use Jay's Small Moves again for our next move, and we've already recommended them to several friends.

We had a challenging move from downtown S.F. to Berkeley, to a house that is in the middle of multiple construction projects. Yet they made everything feel easy. I had gotten food poisoning the day before and we were stressing because we hadn't yet finished packing. But it was no problem--they loaded the truck with the items that were ready to go while we packed the rest. Make sure to ask for Joseph and his team (Fernando and Victor). They arrived a little early so they'd be ready and were the utmost professional while also being a warm and friendly team of guys. We would have them over dinner any time. Because of Joseph I'm now convinced that moving is both an art and an athletic feat. We had a recliner (100lbs) and a treadmill (200lbs) that were too wide to go through a doorway--and yet he maneuvered them effortlessly through without a scratch on either.

I really liked the portable closet they brought that made transporting nice clothes on hangers a breeze. The move was just a handful of miles -- from Berkeley to Oakland -- so the hope was to finish in the two hour minimum. I agree with other reviews stating that the movers were slow--The total time after removing breaks (10.75 hours) was 30% more than the upper end of the original quote (6-8 hours). I appreciate that they were careful with our belongings and were genuinely working hard, but a little bit more realism with the quote would have been helpful. So why am I rating this three stars? The team took a nearly two hour long lunch break. I'm not against breaks for workers, but this was absurdly long. It pushed our move much later into the night. We weren't charged for this time, but I would have appreciated better communication about how the team takes breaks. I had to call the office to figure out was going on! The office told me that the crew would reach out to me directly with when they would be back. (They did not). I think it would also be useful for the office to let potential customers know how much time to factor in for breaks and that they won't be charged for them.
