I surf, sail, bike, and hike. I'm older so sometimes the body objects. I see a top notch sports doctor (OS) when needed; he sends me here. This place has great PT staff and equipment. Have thus-far avoided surgery. Emily just worked on a "knee sprain" (my words). Targeting strengthening adjacent muscles and proper form/movement as well as fixing the symptom, has basically avoided surgery and eliminated the sloppy kinetics that probably caused me to hurt myself. So, basically, got me safely back in the water; yay! Went out twice last week after way to long; but with the warmups was into 4 waves; no issues. Super nice staff and Smart PT team. read more

I am 81 years old and just had a hip replacement. Absolutely no problems or pain from the robotic assisted surgery. But I definitely needed help to gain back my strength and balance. Giving this place a 5 star for their staff, who is always pleasant and professional, the services provided and the success of my treatment. I injured my ankle and then half a year later I injured my knee. I had sprains because of my body's hyper mobility type. I came here by referral from a fancy sports orthopedic specialist to see Karen Wakamoto. When I say "fancy" orthopedic specialist, I mean he's got the degrees, the resume, experience and the well known title that I haven't seen or can pronounce on his resume. It's "Fancy" and all in a good way! He referred me to Karen and told me she was good! Well, he wasn't lying! She's good. She spends the time to understand your body and the connection of how you were injured and where she can improve your mobility in order to strengthen and do preventive care for future injuries. She has proprietary equipment to use on you and yet still gives you all the tools you need to recover. The first day I came to see her I was in a walker, by the end of session I used a crutch, and by my second week I had a knee brace. If Karen isn't a magician, I wouldn't know what title to give her cause I seriously expected my injury to be so bad that I reached a point of no return with little expectations. The pain to walk normal was just tearing at me. I was even willing to get a walker with a chair and consider a wheel chair in the future. In my mind I firmly believed that I would've been 5 yrs away from a wheelchair. Simply put, one ankle twist lead to a knee sprain, which lead to back pain, and shoulder pain, and it was unimaginable that it would improve. Karen changed that and put a full stop to the downward spiral. I am still hanging on improving but the most important part is the functional deterioration of moving my limbs. I am useful again and walking again. It's not perfect, but it's wonderful! I'm in my early twenties but I've been cursed with the agility (or clumsiness) of a 4 year old. I came in and saw Michael in November for a back issue that was quickly solved with his guided help, and then returned in January with a badly sprained ankle, recently dislocated kneecap and bruised surrounding areas, and an aching lower back. All of the above injuries were re-injuries and I was really disheartened by the combination of 3 ailments. Throughout everything, Michael has been nothing but encouraging, kind, and friendly. His help has been absolutely integral in my rehabilitation and I've seen great progress. He's now helping to take me from just rehab to preventative measures to make sure these injuries don't recur. The front office staff is also kind and accommodating. She always helps me find the best possible time in my schedule and handles payment professionally, which I really appreciate from a medical office. She's really sweet and came around from the back counter to help me pick up something that had fallen behind the water cooler for me because she knew it would hurt for me to pick it up myself. Karen is the absolute best!!! Came in when I was a sophomore in high school after tearing my ACL. She rehabbed me back in 8 months and I went on to lead my team to a CIF finals appearance for the first time in 30 years and also went to play college basketball at cypress college. Broke a couple records there, received a full ride to UH Hilo and then at the end of my junior season, I re-tore my ACL. Who better to help rehab me? Karen! I was back in 7 months to finish out my basketball career. I am a long time patient of Karen's and have been receiving treatment for various ailments and injuries for over 6 years. There are three features about MoveWell PT that make it a 5 star. 1. Their philosophy is to not only assess and treat your ailment but assess what the root cause of the condition is. I have been to other physical therapy, PT, clinics where the ailment is treated but not the root cause and have had re-occurrences of the same ailment. Karen is very good at determining the root cause and will always address that condition. 2. Karen performs the treatment herself. It allows her to get first hand knowledge of how your ailment is responding to the treatment as well as finding other contributing factors during treatment and she will make adjustments as necessary. She is also very good at explaining what the goal is for each exercise so that you have an understanding why you need to perform that exercise. 3. Karen has a vast array of treatment methods. She has taken training classes in DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) over many years and every time she employs those methods on me, my body always responds well to it. This is a key distinguishing attribute about her that not many other therapists have. Karen's staff, including the front desk staff, are always friendly, responsive, and very adept at handing the billing, including handing the interaction with the insurance company. My podiatrist suggested physical therapy for aid in healing my plantar fasciitis. Movewell was in-network for me and conveniently located close to where I live. The first thing I noticed was ample, up close parking. My foot hurt and I was glad I didn't have to trek too far to the Movewell suite on the second floor. The location has an elevator. The friendly front desk staff greets you as you walk in & sign in for your appointment. The entire suite is very clean. I see the staff wiping down the equipment as each patient leaves. My same therapist worked me for all 12 sessions. Karen was very knowledgeable & listened to me that I felt not just my foot was off, but my whole left leg was not right. Each session she worked on the leg & foot and we went through exercises together. She gave me exercises to do at home. I felt challenged, but not pushed too hard. She explained to me in layman's terms how to resolve my foot and leg pain. After my 12 sessions I'm feeling so much better and the range of motion of my foot and leg is exponentially better. Thank God for my right hip replacement surgery and not just to relieve all the pain that comes along with a hip full of arthritis that is bone on bone, but because I got pointed in the direction of Move Well and chose Karen Wakamoto for my therapist. I am 74 and have had a lifelong habit of poor posture that has been adding to my physical discomforts. Because of post hip physical therapy, my right hip is not only doing so well allowing me to do things I have not been able to do for years, but KAREN has helped me so much to correct bad habits in the way I breathe, stand, and walk. A while ago I herniated 2 discs in my lower back while rock climbing. It was very debilitating. I couldn't play with and carry my son, couldn't sit at my desk to work and I wasn't able to do all the other activities that I loved doing-snowboarding, cycling, rock climbing, surfing, weightlifting, golfing etc. I was referred to Optimum Physical Therapy to treat my lower back. It is my good fortune that when I asked my doctor if he knew a good physical therapist, he recommended Karen Wakamoto. My long-time back pain has been my unwanted companion in spite of all of the different treatments I've tried including chiropractic and physical therapy. And then I met Karen. What an experience. I can never say enough great things about Karen and Dr. Yamada. I had knee reconstruction in November (ACL, Meniscus, lateral release, LCL) the mother of all knee surgeries as I lovingly refer to it. I had one hell of a recovery and some pretty extensive complications over time. Karen stuck by me through it all... from my tears to my over doing it to being able to get up one step... to full range of motion. I could not have done it without her. I see Dr. Yamada on my off days from PT and he has really helped stabilize my mechnics and get my muscles firing in the right order. His knowledge and experience are obviously extensive as he is extremely comfortable going through a variety of tailored exercises with all kinds of different equipment and tools. He's friendly and professional - and he gets results. I was in so much pain a month ago that I couldn't walk down stairs without wincing, and I was not sleeping well, either. I hurt my rt knee and was told surgery was going to be needed...torn meniscus and a little foot drop. I did not want surgery so a friend recommended I see Karen at Optimum Physical Therapy Group. I called the office, was able to setup an appointment and take of my insurance concerns before my first visit. To make a long story short, Karen was able to help me with 6 months of exercises, strength conditioning, and massages to where I was able to avoid surgery! This is my first review I have written and I hope the team at Optimum reads it. Unfortunately I can't review the therapists because I never made it that far. I personally stopped in their cypress facility to look at the working conditions and it looks like a nice clean place. I wanted to make an appointment and the young lady at the front took down my name and number and said she would call first thing the next morning with an appointment. So the next afternoon I called to follow up and again the same girl took my name and number and promised she would call me back before they closed. Needless to say I have never heard back from them and have moved on to another physical therapy facility. Let's hope the rest of the staff does a better job than she does. Good luck. read more

Optimum PT is an amazing place for any body maintenance or rehab. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. Karen Wakamoto is not only an amazing therapist but a sweet, genuine person also. She has helped me through numerous injuries and has always baffled me with how fast she would get me back to full health. I want to personally recommend Karen Wakamoto & the Optimum Physical Therapy staff. Karen helped me make a full recovery after I broke my leg in a motorcycle accident. After a month at another PT Office ( I wasn't making much progress) my fried recommended I try out Karen's facility.
