It's in a walk up building like on the 5th floor so just getting there is a workout! The people there are very accomodating with scheduling which was very nice. The classes are 45 minutes and limited to five people. I felt like the 45 minutes wasn't enough since the teachers were racing through to make sure we worked out our core, arms and legs. If I didn't get a deal, the classes are pretty expensive - $40 each, especially for only 45 minutes. Also one of the instructors used to teach downtown at another studio which was much cheaper - like 25 per class which was an hour and an apparatus class. I think the $40 price tag is too high for this place, especially compared to alot of other pilates studios in NYC.

Terrible experience…read more 1) Looked like there was dog hair on mat. I know it's a one person gym, but run a quick vacuum before a client comes in! I wouldn't have minded as much if I hadn't been down on the mat and putting my face near it. 2) Trainer was constantly looking out the window, waving hi to people, watching over her car. Had to run outside twice. Very much felt like trainer was half paying attention to me. You had someplace better to be? This was a one-on-one session. 3) A little bit about me to give some context: I don't exercise much, but I've tried out a LOT of different things over the years. I haven't worked out in at least a year. I NEVER suffer from nausea when working out. I'm looking to work on my lower back and just to move my body in general, not get ripped/super intense training. Trainer was informed of all these things. Trainer warns me before we begin that I could experience nausea. I figure it's a standard warning because I know some people have a bad reaction to exercise. 20 minutes later, I'm nauseous. We're doing super intense stuff that I'm clearly struggling with as I constantly have to rest and my muscles are killing me. I ask to end early and do stretching, which mainly consisted of sitting with my legs open as far and possible and reaching various directions. I was not impressed. Trainer tells me that I'm doing good, so many of her clients run out the door and throw up on a nearby tree that it's been dubbed "the vomit tree." I'm standing there thinking WTF as she doubles down insisting her practice of working people on their first visit so hard they vomit is the way to go and everyone is fine by the next visit.  Starting within a few hours of leaving and continuing to now (two days later), I'm in so much pain, I can barely sit down and get up, go up and down a few stairs, or pick something up off the floor. Walking is painful but tolerable.  I've done intense workouts before, been sore the next day, but not like this. This was her starting me on level 10 when I was at something like level 4. This workout was not tailored to my level, with the goal of working towards a higher level. It was a one size fits all. Honestly, I felt bad about leaving a negative review for a one person business. But the amount of pain I'm in, the story about all these people vomiting... I felt I had to say something for people who might not know that exercising does not have to be this terrible. If this has been my first experience, I don't know if I'd ever have been willing to try again.

I had gone to many different therapies: many different PTs, chiropractic, Thai massage, and even another yoga therapist. Nothing seemed to work. Recently I saw a Groupon for three private yoga therapy sessions with Deborah. I decided that I had nothing to loose and went to see her. After only two sessions I had significant relief- no pain, no tightness, no numbness. For the first time in two and a half years I can walk normally. Deborah is about healing and her art is yoga. She uses a combination of physical, mental and spiritual coaching. She has a soothing presence and a grounded demeanor. Deborah works out of her apartment. Her fee is reasonable which makes it easier to afford to come weekly. I only wish I had known about Deborah two years ago!!

I am a huge fan of Desire's cardio jump board class on Wednesday nights, but I can't always make it, so yesterday, Saturday, I took a 1pm TRX class with Iveta. I had taken the TRX class at moving strength east with Dawn, and it was a great hard class, but moving strength West seems to have a more conducive schedule to my lifestyle. It was a small class of three people and Iveta was very welcoming and asked if we had injuries, which I always like, especially since I have many. She was aware of these throughout the class and as I modified or she suggested modifications we just kept on moving. The class went surprisingly fast considering it was an hour of TRX - that is not always the case. But we moved fast, we mixed it up, from Rows, Low medium and high, to push ups, to mountain climbers to planks to more rows to squats upon squats upon squats. Iveta also had probably the best music mix I have heard in months for any class I've taken it was modern upbeat and loud - maybe that was part of the reason it went fast. Lately I've been taking classes that are silent with no music, and I'm not sure I enjoy it as much. This might've not been the best choice for me, after walking 3 miles over the Queensboro Bridge and having a swollen foot, LOL, but I made it through and I made it through strong. There's some thing about classes that makes me competitive and push through the pain :-). Highly recommend.

Pilates Reformer was certainly much harder than I expected and probably the most mindful class I've taken in terms of muscle control, flexibility and form (and I've taken barre too) UNFORTUNATELY, my foot decided to cramp 3/4 the way in, so I couldn't finish the rest of the class....lol I was so embarrassed but apparently it's a common problem. sigh Anyways, the bathroom is outside in the hallway, accessed by a key and there's no water station here but they sell bottles for $1.

They were some of the hardest classes I've ever taken and I left both inspired and a little defeated. I would only recommend a very hydrated and somewhat experienced person exercise here, it's not for the super newbies unless you take a teacher or class title that really helps beginners. That's my most honest advice because honestly, classes are intense here. The teachers and desk staff are friendly and the facilities were spotless. I feel like I have tried a pretty wide range of classes and teachers (my app says 170, but I have def passed 200), Stephanie, Aura, Marisa, Katie, Sarah, Eric, Auraceli, Tori, and Alexa. My body has personally seen the biggest change since taking Sculpt/Pilates classes consistently. The instructors always brings a fun, positive, welcoming energy. I feel like I get the most out of the class, with how hard I am working, not wasting time, and using the end to fully rest-which rarely happens in the city. I always leave feeling accomplished and well challenged, which I so love. Anyways who knows me, know's how much I love Bode and rave about it. Thanks for creating such an amazing studio space. It is truly one of my happy places!
