Came for supper tonight to find it nice and chilly inside, perfect. After a 34* C day it was actually nice to sit inside instead of bearing the heat. I ordered the street tacos and a Caesar salad as a side. Got them in a timely matter, yet the tacos were very very plain. They were pulled chicken and refried beans, which combined tasted more bland than a pair of gym socks. The salad wasn't so bad tho. To finish it all off I went for a pee in their bathroom urinals.... waterless urinals are the grossest things ever invented. The smell of pee was brutal. Went here for the first time on Valentine's day, had reservations and the wait was still insane, the price was 24 bucks for a salad. And 5 dollars for a drink.. I'm sorry but when your food is cold and you're paying double what any other restaurant charges it should at least taste good, however the food was disgusting! read more

I gave this restaurant one star because the décor was nice. If I wanted to see nice décor instead of having good food I would have gone to a museum. The food and wine were priced at very high end restaurant rates. The food would have embarrassed a soup kitchen. Of our four choices, one was unavailable (a recurring theme), the Spicy Tuna Roll (WARMED sushi!) was bereft of tuna, the Dry Ribs (ordered biryani, got salt and pepper) were tough and tasteless and the Fish Tacos were served cold - as cold as if they had come out of the 'fridge. We felt cheated out of our night of dining. Any pub in HRM would have been better at a third of the price. This is the first time that I have offered a review. This was the first time I have been to the Martimes and it was nice to see a big city restaurant offered here. Just the sophistication I expected: clean, modern decor, atmosphere and a GREAT WINE list! My trip has been amazing in that it is so hard to find any great wine selections in restaurants out this way. ( I have been in several restaurants where the selection has been Red or White. Although this Moxie's is not a Vancouver restaurant they still had over 40 labels on the shelf/fridge ready to go!) I was reading the other comments about "skanky" servers and I guess that I must be out to lunch because the wait staff were polite and competent, and yes they looked good and showed it... Am I missing the problem? I look forward to coming back to Nova Scotia, and I will definatley eat here because of the great service, wine selection, and nice decor (not to mention that there apeer to be few other credible alternatives)... and affordable in real world pricing. read more

Came to Moxies after the Sol Sisters walk as it was one of our sponsor restaurants. We sat in the bar side of the restuarant which quickly became filled with other ladies from the walk. Our server (Margaret) was obviously very busy but that didn't affect the quality of service she gave, very prompt and friendly. There was complimentary appetizers provided which were very tasty (sushi I believe). For my main I had the recommended chipoltle mango chicken which was fresh and full of flavor. Will return but maybe on another night with less traffic to get the full experience. read more

When you advertise on your chefs, hire "models" who can't serve and hope for the best... you really don't get the best. Nearly $20 for mediocre nachos? Free taste tests of tasteless food? Drinks that are advertised as works of art but taste and look like re-frozen kids popsicles? There's nothing right about this place. -I don't want to see the lady parts of my hostess because her heels are too high and her skirt is too short with a slit that shows off her thong. -Promote your chef only if their food tastes better than frozen entrees from every other chain restaurant. I've been dragged back too many times by a single friend who likes the attention of attractive women. Even if he has to tip for the attention. I think I'm beyond being persuading for another trip. I frequent this steakhouse and in my opinion they have the best steak in the city. This was the first night they didn't knock it out of the park, normally excellent cut that literally melts in your mouth. Tonight was an off night. But my review is still very positive. What they did do was to not only redo the entire meal but then comped it as well without asking. They were sincerely apologetic and interested in feedback on how they could improve. Ok, I'll admit...How long has Moxie's been open?? All of the talk about girls in short skirts who flirt meant this was not the place for me. After receiving 2 gift cards this Christmas, I finally went with my husband for dinner...We made a reservation for Saturday at 7pm. Environment: 3 Girls at the front door -seemingly very confused. Not sure why it takes 3 girls and another to seat dinner guests. The bar looked nice, but we weren't there for long before given a beeper -at the same time it went off and being seated after another brief wait. Restroom was nice and clean. In my opinion the décor was low light modern/contemporary and appealing. I don't recall any music. I like the fireplaces. Guest type: Hmmm... A lot of everything. Formal attire, business casual, casual and jeans with teeshirt/jeans with hoodie. Having thought it was a trendy and upscale location, I felt overdressed, but only sometimes. Age range was wide from 8-10 year old children to seniors in the dining area. Waitstaff: To my surprise mostly men. All very polite and professional. Love the long dark pin striped bistro aprons. I did see one female wearing a very flattering black and white cap sleeve fitted square neckline dress to the knee. I always say we can be much sexier covered up than not! Drink Menu: Broad selection of wine, mostly house quality; these generally please most palates. A few higher end selections are available for those who want to pay the price. There was a small menu of daily special drinks/cocktails; that's all I can recall seeing. We ordered Bolla Valpolicella for $35-36; After 20 minutes it was getting better. Retails for $15.99; AVG Food menu: We ordered and shared the Bruschetta to begin. It was good. I had the honey garlic steak (medium well) with roasted potatoes and broccoli. I added the mushrooms. It was good. My husband had ribs with a stuffed baked potato and he enjoyed it. Total bill $128 and change plus $20 tip to our main waiter. I'm not sure what to think about that yet. I may go back and try a second time, definitely not during the daytime or work week, not 100% sure. read more

I ordered a steak one night and after they gave it to me the first time I had to send it back twice because it was still under cooked and still had to pay for it and like other restaurants they would not make you pay for it but moxies did. If I go there again I would have to be forced into going and would definitely not be ordering a steak. read more

I have been to Moxie's a few times over the years and I have no idea why I have been there more than once. They have a very bland selection of food and it isn't that great. I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 because I have always received great service here. Although I will not be recommending this place to anyone, if there was a function there and a large group was going I wouldn't not attend. read more

This is clearly 4 stars. Good service, nice staff, good food, outstanding decor, innovative and exciting lights. Forget some chain w/garbage nailgunned to the wall. This is a cool chain. The first time I went to Moxie's I admit, I was slightly offended by the pretty girls dressed in skimpy clothes, but now I suppose it's no different than Hooters or even Jack Astor's for that matter, who encourage, if not demand their waitresses to be pretty and scantily clad. And if you don't like it, don't go there. The atmosphere and decor is great here, and I do find the staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Usually there is even someone holding the door for patrons. I like that added touch of class and service which I find is really echoed throughout. Last night was martini night and I was not disappointed by my favourite, Blue Zen and my friend was quick to ask for her regular peach bellini. We shared apps of nachos and sweet chili chicken. The chicken was the better and more reasonably priced of the two. It was delicious. I feel like I remember their nachos being much bigger with more toppings before. However, what we got last night left a little to be desired for the 17.99 price tag. A little high for an app that could have stood to have more cheese, peppers or even chicken, That being said, pretty much every time I come here, I enjoy my meal and enjoy the service and atmosphere. Well, this is Covid times but we decided to take my husband out to dinner for his 60th birthday. Made reservation for 10 people. When we got there we were separated into two tables which was very disappointing. By the time we arrived, several of our party had arrived and my sons girlfriend already had her wine. My 28 year old daughter proceeded to order a drink and the waiter asked for ID which she hadn't brought[My son's girlfriend wasn't asked for ID and she's the same age]. Later my daughter took a sip of my husband's draught and this female waiter came over a few minutes later and very loudly informed her that this couldn't happen. My daughter showed them a picture of her passport but they said that they knew she was old enough but she could have faked that picture. Meanwhile it became very uncomfortable. My daughter has a severe onion and garlic allergy and asked the waiter if he could find out what she could have on the menu and he came back and told her a long list of what she couldn't have. With no suggestions. The waiter that had come and spoke rudely to her later delivered our food and dropped a 100$ bill on the floor as she was leaving and my daughter picked it up and gave it to the other waiter when he returned. He realized it wasn't his and said it must belong to the other waiter . She never thanked us for finding her money but came back to deliver my daughters meal and loudly with a little sarcasm said "Here you go, are you good now? I assume you can't have ketchup?". The food was meh...ok. They could have told me when I called that they would separate us even though we saw other large tables with seating for 10. Last time we go there. The decorators for Moxie's have obviously put a lot of effort into making it appear to be hip and modern. It actually came off as very bland and utilitarian to me, and there was generic, somewhat irritating music with a trance-y beat blaring in the background constantly. The waitresses were all cardboard cutout blonds in various styles of black dresses. There is definitely a single type of person hired to work here. The food itself varied from okay to mediocre. This is a restaurant that very much pushes presentation over content. The plates are artfully decorated with very little actual food; you are paying for the experience, not the meal. We had the three dip med bread appetizer (hard, thin breadsticks with rosemary on them and three kinds of dip), and this was tasty, but again, a tiny serving. For the main dish, I had the New York steak, and I asked for it medium. This was an extreme disappointment. They brought me out a charred lump of steak, very tough and dry, with quite a lot of gristle on the edges. I only ate a few bites of it, and I could see the waitress intentionally avoiding me when she realized that I was obviously not enjoying it (the menu says very clearly "you don't pay for any steak you don't love"). When she finally came over to check on me about 15 minutes later, I told her that the steak was not good, and that it was very tough and dry. I also reminded her that I had asked for medium. She said she would let the manager know, and took the plate away. Despite the fact that I ate almost none of the food, and clearly indicated I was not satisfied, I was still charged the full $30 for my dinner. The manager did come over with a sampler dessert platter for my wife and I to share (menu price: $8), saying she thought this would be "a good way to finish off the evening." Needless to say, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless you think spending three times what your food is worth while sitting in a utilitarian nightclub is a good investment. read more

We had lunch yesterday at Dartmouth Crossing.. was impressed with the service and décor ... the food was served quickly.. on the most part everyone enjoyed their meal(there were 4 of us).. the Broccoli cheese soup I had was very good, could have been a bit warmer, the Roast beep dip looked good, however I would not order it again.. I could not bit into it the beef was so tough, and h even had difficulty cutting it wilt a knife..most of it was left on my plate.. disappointing, as I sometimes order that at other places, and have not had that problem. read more

Moxies has been going downhill for a while, but now it's just crashed and burned. My partner and I decided to go last night for a 'fancier' romantic type of dinner, something that we rarely do. Our last experience here had not been good (at least a year ago) when he had ordered a well done steak and it came out blue rare, but we didn't think something like that would happen again. Last night was an even bigger letdown. It started with us getting ID'd twice when we had already made it clear we weren't drinking alcohol. This wasn't a big deal, I understand that it's a liability issue, but it was pretty annoying considering we didn't ask to be on the lounge side of the restaurant. Come time to order, my partner orders his appetizer only to be told that they don't have any available (flatbread with three dips), he decides to get the bruschetta. He orders the portobello mushroom burger for his main and you guessed it, they didn't have that either. He got the fettucine alfredo since that was the only enticing option left for him (vegetarian). I went for the teriyaki rice bowl. The bruschetta was just repulsive - it was pre-made bruschetta mix (my guess is Costco) on oily crackers (bagel bites) with large cubed cheese on top. It was cold, it was not bruschetta and cost ten dollars. The last time we came here and got bruschetta it was on thick pieces of perfectly toasted baguette and it had a balsamic glaze and warm goat cheese. The fettucini alfredo didn't even have fettucini noodles, it was penne. My stir fry vegetables were not fully cooked, Thai Express beat them on this dish. On top of this dissapointing meal we listened to our waitress and a co-worker complain that they hadn't had a break and were struggling, along with the bartender repeatedly complain that he had to do everything for everyone. Funny considering the restaurant was so quiet for 7:00 on a Saturday night. We don't plan on coming back. Our money should go towards good food and a good chef, not 60-inch televisions and imported display-only alcohol. Pros: we watched the Olylmpics for 45 minutes while waiting for our food. read more

We tried Moxie's a little while ago, and haven't been back since. I think I would have spent more time enjoy the wonderful food, if we had not been sitting at a tall table, and the waitresses had been wearing appropriate clothing to serve food in. Since most of the girls working here were wearing low-cut shirts and maybe the shortest skirts I've seen in a restaurants, we spent most of our meal trying to avoid seeing our waitresses navel down her shirt. It was uncomfortable, and made me question how sanitary the restaurant is, which sucks because the food was really enjoyable. read more

Went for lunch recently, and all I can say is average. It was very busy and our server seemed to have tables all over the restaurant as she was running from one end to the other. It took close to 30 minutes for our order to be taken which is too long. I had the street tacos, and the chicken was dry with not much flavour. My mom had chow mein lettuce cups (can't recall the name of the menu item), and it was good but very salty. My daughter had the kids cheeseburger which she liked overall but found greasy. Other than the decor which is quite nice, I honestly don't get the appeal of this place. I have been a few times over the years and am underwhelmed every time. This was our 2nd visit to Moxie's. We gave them a second chance as the first time they had just opened and we were not very impressed with anything except the decor. Second time the same. The service was not great in the restaurant but awesome in the bar. We do not like the fact that several people wait on you and serve you...it throws out the personal touch one wants when dining out! The food was not good at all, I can make a much better home made pizza than that for much less money. The special philly steak was not great in any regard, from the bun to the steak. We were very disappointed to have spent that much money on a meal that looks and tasted as though it was prepared from a box or a frozen food section...not something a chef would prepare. Bottom line, we will stay home and cook for ourselves only problem we were 4 hours away from home!! read more
